We went to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday. Looking at the prices ahead of time we expected an exquisite meal. The Meatloaf for $52 was only mediocre. The crab cake as a side dish was very small for $35 and I expected it to be all Lump crab but it was not. Nothing special. The Risotto was bland and not cooked completely. The staff was great and the atmosphere was nice but the food was very disappointing for what we paid. I would not recommend the restaurant to anybody read more

Somehow this was our first time eating at 401 Prime after enjoying the other Vescor restaurants frequently. From the moment we arrived, we were pleased this was the place we chose to celebrate Mother's Day. Many small nice touches throughout the meal. Offering lemon, lime, and cucumber to enhance your water, a warm and scrumptious popover served with infused butter, and very professional staff. We started with the pictured ahi tuna appetizer. I was so engaged with the rest of my meal that I didn't capture the light and buttery sea bass, the beet risotto, my dining partner's aged NY strip (cooked perfectly and as requested) or my mimosa served with choice of juices. Look forward to returning again soon! read more

Meh. Nice place. Modern steakhouse vibe. Attentive service. Tried the famed bacon and needed to saw through it with a knife. Would not recommend or was an off night. I ordered a special ribeye cap steak medium. Came out very well done. Replacement was cancelled and they brought it in a to go box some 20 minutes after everyone was done eating. I did try it and was overly salty too. Tried a bunch of sides. Carrots, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and a baked potato. Mostly ate the baked. Tasted like they finished it in a microwave. Enjoyed the time and service but the food is far from worth the spend. read more

Amazing meal! Filet was perfectly medium rare and all the sides were excellent great bar for a quick after dinner drink

Came here with my husband for our anniversary. I was pregnant at the time, so we did not drink alcohol. Since the knew it was our anniversary, and he did a reservation they printed out menus with our names on it. The appetizers were so yummy! The food was priced fairly. Very beautiful inside also. read more

From start to finish, our experience at 401 Prime in Lancaster was nothing short of extraordinary. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between elegance and cool--think rich textures, low lighting, and timeless tunes from Sinatra and Dean Martin floating through the air. I had the Wedge Salad, Corn Pudding, and the 8oz Barrel Cut Ribeye--and every bite was spectacular. The salad was crisp and flavorful, the corn pudding was pure comfort, and the ribeye was cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavor. Bird tried the Crab Stuffed Shrimp, Creamed Spinach, and The Thresher, and couldn't stop raving about them. The Cigar Cutter's Choice Old Fashioned was a standout--easily one of the best I've ever had, smooth and smoky in all the right ways. Our server, Heroly C, was friendly, attentive, and made the entire night seamless and enjoyable. If I had to mention one miss, it would be the 401 Special Steak Sauce--it tasted like straight ketchup mixed with Worcestershire. Not exactly what you'd expect at a place of this caliber, but thankfully the steak was so good it didn't need it anyway. If you're in Lancaster and looking for a place that delivers on food, drinks, service, and vibe--look no further. 401 Prime is doing everything right. read more

I made a reservation a few weeks ago for my boyfriend and my anniversary. The day before I received a call asking for the other persons name who will be dining with me so they could do something special for us. Fast forward to the next nice when we get to the restaurant, we open the menu and on the first page it said "happy anniversary" and had our names. Super cute touch!! We also got to keep that page of the menu and take it home with us. They started us off with lavender scented warm towels to wipe off our hands with was really nice ! We started off with the baked oysters Rockefeller , 10/10, I could have eaten another helping lol I got the filet mignon and my boyfriend got the ribeye , both could have been seasoned better but to be fair , I prefer a well seasoned steak so that's a me thing lol. Both were cooked perfectly to the temp that we wanted. We got asparagus and the crab Mac and cheese as a side and those were very flavorful as well. Arrive a little earlier to have time for parking since street parking is hard to come by and the garage is a little bit of a walk It was a little noisy as we say next to a larger party but overall I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who is looking for somewhere nice to celebrate or if they want a next level experience read more

Before you sit for a delicious dinner, pop into their bar and lounge for a swanky feeling pre dinner cocktail! The service is always excellent here, food doesn't disappoint. It's pricey but it's a steakhouse so splurge and enjoy the vibes ! read more

The vegan general tso sunchoke dish was excellent. I just wished they gave you more of it. The vegan fillet was excellent!! Whoever the chef is, is a culinary genius. Our service was also impeccable. 10/10 read more

Our reservation was for 6:45 and we had no issue finding street parking in Prince Street. Since is was after 6pm on a weeknight the parking was free. We went to celebrate my husband's birthday during Lancaster City Restaurant week. That was good timing for us because he ordered off their special prix fixe menu. He ordered bacon, the filet, and the chocolate skillet. Both the bacon and dessert were large enough to share. I had the scallops. I thought the scallops were tasty, but my personal preference would be less mushrooms. The sauce was flavorful, but too rich for me. The amount of rich food I ate was enough to make me second guess my choices...next time I will not order the scallops or eat any of my husband's bacon. I ate only 1/2 of the scallop dish-I picked out the scallops and still had a lot of sauce and mushrooms remaining. The popovers were delicious and the lavender towels a nice touch. Our server Allie was great. 10 out of 10 service. The decor and ambience is also fantastic. I am only giving it 4 stars because I didn't love my meal. I am sure that's just me...others shouldn't hesitate to order the scallops. read more

WOW. JUST WOW. From the moment we walked in the door to our very last bite this experience was exactly what we needed and more. My husband and I came up to the area for a little weekend anniversary getaway. We wanted to have a nice upscale dinner but aside from one other spot we didn't know of many. After some searching we stumbled across 401 Prime. We could only get an 8:30 reservation which we'd normally never do, but we knew we weren't going to get in anywhere else that we considered to be a nice romantic dinner so we kept it. Thank goodness. Our server Joseph was INCREDIBLE. He took us through a detailed walk through of the menu, mentioning key items and ingredients, the origins of certain cuts of meats, and preparation style notes. He asked us if we wanted lime, cucumber, or lemon for our water, and we were handed a tablet with an extensive wine menu which Joseph noted the chef and owner ( or bartender?) are sommeliers and hand crafted the wine list. We went with cocktails, opting for a Paloma for me and an autumn mule for my husband. We were informed the drinks could be made as mocktails as well. Both drinks were phenomenal. We were also brought a little hand towel that Joseph poured hot lavender water on top. We started with the thick cut miso bacon. It was melt in your mouth delicious with a smoky sweetness. We were also brought popovers as the bread service and I snuck in a piece of the bacon between a piece of a popover and it was heavenly. We split the autumn salad with came filled with fresh figs, goat cheese, and walnuts with a maple vanilla dressing that was equal parts light and decadent. For our entrees my husband did the rib cap and I did the filet and crab cake special with bernaise. We ordered our steaks medium and Joseph came back to check and make sure the temperature was good. While they were slightly under medium, they were so tender and delicious. The crab cake was all lump crab meat. Zero filler. For our sides were did the potatoes au gratin, which was rich and cheesy, and the brûléed corn pudding. The corn pudding was like dessert and we loved it. Speaking of dessert, I was insanely full but my husband wanted to try the warm Chocolate butterscotch bread pudding. Joseph brought me vanilla ice cream with a sparkler to commemorate our anniversary and it was a wonderful ending to a fantastic dinner. To top it off, instead of mints, four little almond cookies were brought with the check. If you're familiar with Italian pignoli cookies, this is them without the pine nuts. 401 Prime is incredible for a special occasion. Do NOT hesitate to make a reservation. read more

Ashley was an awesome bartender! Friendly, fast, and attentive. Great service and a positive attitude. I'll definitely be back!

I took my wife here for our 3rd anniversary. Originally our reservation was at 7, but we arrived early and the staff was very accomidating to get us seated sooner on a somewhat busy Friday night. Our server was very friendly and took her time to talk with us and check in on us frequently despite how many tables she had. The drinks were 10/10 (Frenchman Street Classic and Raspberry Beret Martini). The appetizers were 10/10 (Charcuterie Board and Seafood Beurre Monte). We each had an 8oz Barrel Cut Ribeye for our entree, both were cooked to the correct temp. Truthfully, ive had better steaks elsewhere for less, but they were still good. The sides (Asparagus and Creamed Spinach) were also a great portion and tasted good. The ambiance was fantastic, id say 9/10. Overall, I would definitely comeback to eat here for special events. The ambiance, the menu, the service, are all very much respectable. The food was great even if it doesnt quite live up to its price point (again we only tried one steak so maybe other entrees couldve wowed us a bit more), but with everything else being fantastic it makes up for the prices. read more

I can't remember the last time I was more disappointed a restaurant. Very pretentious, but nothing backing it up. Gloppy tasteless crab dip with crispy bread that had huge holes in it so the dip fell all over. Warm champagne despite asking for it to be colder on the second round - it was not. Heavy greasy popovers instead of bread. Cold LED lights on the table rather than candles or flowers or anything conducive to a nice ambiance. Mediocre salad, entrées and dessert. And quite expensive. It was our first and last time there. read more

Anniversary dinner recently at 401 Prime was not the best. For a very expensive bill ($400+), 401 didn't deliver at that price point. The ambiance was lovely, but the meal did not deliver. Best part was miso bacon appetizer but my husband felt it was very heavy for an app. Steaks were in no way worth the price. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Sadly, we won't be returning for our next special occasion night out. Lancaster has better options. read more

Made reservations for 6 and didnt get seated until almost 6:30. Service was slow throughout the meal. Appetizers were delicious. Our steaks were very good. The sides were average. Potatoes in the Au gratin were under cooked. The Mac and cheese was bland and the cheese wasn't completely melted. The asparagus was fibrous. Desserts were mixed. Chocolate cake was very good, the blueberry cheesecake was very average. Ambiance was good, mood lighting and music were appropriate. The bill was excessively high. 401 prime is not Capital Grille. read more

A hidden gem , I can't believe this place is in Lancaster PA. The wife took me here for my birthday and I was in awe. This place was vibrant and very elegant. The food was chefs kiss. The staff was very nice and attentive. The Mac n Cheese was to die for. Wagyu steak was butter on a fork. Cant wait to go back. read more

The Ceasar salad was terrible, with an over infused Japanese twist that had no resemblance to a Caesar salad except for the Romaine. The crunchy rice topping was overwhelming in flavor as was the strange dressing. Service was bad. No one asked how our salad was. When we were done and our plates were removed, no one asked if we needed anything else or a dessert. When our drinks were empty we were not asked if we wanted another. It was amature hour, or as if they knew we wouldn't want anything else due to bad food and zero service. The drinks were fine. The ambiance is nice. But, I wouldn't go again. read more

My wife and I were very excited to try this restaurant and had a pretty solid plan as to what we were going to order... Shrimp Cocktail 14 oz Kobe New York Strip Burlee' corn pudding Place was very nice inside and quite honestly pretty pricey for Lancaster but didn't care wanted to enjoy the evening... Shrimp Cocktail arrives $21 4 colossal shrimp lemon cocktail sauce just like the menu said... That's when things got real for me! The shrimp were thaw and serve!!! Yes they were big but at a place like this with such high expectations it was an utter disappointment. I was NEVER asked by the bartender how was your shrimp...so just asked for the check...I told her the shrimp were not good..."I'll get the manager"... the manager arrives pompous arrogant man and told me we get fresh fish in everyday and those shrimp are cooked in house... I see it's a lose lose situation so I pay my check and leave... Note for those who are reading this the menu has shrimp on it twice both as cocktail shrimp... If they are cooking them fresh why wouldn't they have any other shrimp dish on the menu?? Guess I ordered the wrong thing but first impressions are very important to me and they failed. read more

Gave it another shot but unfortunately can't raise my review. The service and decor again were great! The miso bacon had improved since the last time I tried it and would give it a solid 4/5. The side of rainbow carrots was alright but wasn't a fan of the sauce they had on them 3/5. The cardinal sin was completed again as they overcooked my steak. Requested medium and it didn't have an ounce of pink other than right at the bone. I can't give props to a steak place if you overcook a steak 2/2 times that I have been there read more

Fabulous business dinner program last evening! Dinner was amazing. Beautiful private dining area to accommodate large number of guests. From shared appetizers, charcuterie, miso bacon, muffins to steak and crab cake entrees and sides, all delicious. Best was the amazing service from Mariah and Cory, and others. Serving 19 people flawlessly, in a very timely manner all without interrupting presentation and while checking in to see if everything prepared to guests liking. Also, so appreciate not charging for the people that didn't show. Cannot recommend this restaurant and staff more! read more

Superb dinner! Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection. Grey Goose martini was excellent. Service was first rate.

My best Lancaster dining experience hands down. Was lucky enough to snag a gorgeous private room. They make sure the meal is an experience start to finish. Starting with the lavender hand towels and delicious popover bread with incredible butter, we knew we were in for something good before we even ordered. Not to mention that they bring you 3 types of salt, and let you know which pairs best with each dish, and they do pair wonderfully. Everything we ordered was delicious, see the photos below to see the wonderful presentation. Lastly, service was quick and friendly. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal, but would absolutely come back for what looks like a delicious dessert selection. Go here. That's all I have to say. read more

Classic mellow Big Band and early 60s music welcomed us into this upscale little gem tucked into a corner in downtown Lancaster. Hostess was professional and welcoming -- offered for us to check our coats. Impressive walls of wines displayed near the entrance. We are so thankful to Tom & Henry - two gentlemen we met at Indoor Golf - for the recommendation of 401 Prime as a nice steakhouse to go to for an anniversary dinner. Perfect suggestion! We were seated in a back room that felt rather private and very elegant. Larissa was our server - professional, knowledgeable, friendly, attentive (but allowing us space also). We both ordered the aged ribeye - oh yum! It was truly "melt in your mouth" delicious! Presentation was gorgeous, with a small, elegant vegetable and flower arrangement on the plate. We ordered a bottle of local Merlot - it was tasty by itself and paired with the dinner. Bathrooms are private, clean and classy. Next time we're in town, we would love to enjoy 401 Prime again! read more

Ate there last night for the first time. Phenomenal! Drinks were great. Had 2 different variety of old fashioned's both excellent. Seafood tower was yummy. Do wish they had a creamy mustard sauce for the crab. Risotto was exceptional. Entree had king size prime rib. So juicy and tender. Didn't get waygu this time. Plan to next time. Best place in Lancaster by far. Such an improvement over Amorette, which was great initially but went downhill later. We'll be back @ 401 Prime in 2 weeks. Can't wait! read more

Very good meal, delicious steak and apps! Service was very friendly and not too pretentious or up tight. Beautiful restaurant with plenty of space and not too loud from others sitting around you. The meal absolutely deserves 5 stars, however I wish there were some bone in steak options. Cocktails were ok, but next time I'd stick with the wine. Meal was pricey but not unfair. I would happily return on a special occasion. read more

Great steak house! I came here a few months ago for my fiancé's birthday! We had Wagyu, filet mignon, and skirt steak as well as sharing a few appetizers. I will say the miso pork belly was definitely a highlight & I highly recommend trying it. The wine & cocktails were all fantastic as I expected it would be. The waitstaff were very knowledgeable & attentive. The ambiance was perfect for a moody date night or a nice business dinner. My only complaint is that prices for some of the apps seemed high. The steak was definitely worth it though! Definitely be prepared to spend when coming here. read more

While the ambiance and the hostess deserve five stars, the quality and pacing of the meal was disappointing for the price we paid. Our server was professional and made several recommendations, but we lost her for about 20 minutes after our salads, which led to us to finishing a bottle of wine before the entrees arrived. I'm not sure if that was part of the plan, to tease us into a second bottle of wine, but it didn't work. For a fine dining restaurant, I expected the pacing to match the meal - and the long gap of time between our salads and entrees lost a star - and we didn't find the quality of the meal or the plate presentations matching the price tag, thus losing another star. We all left feeling rather disappointed after all the rave reviews we had read beforehand. read more

The service is great, friendly and competent. 5 stars for service. The ambiance was pretty good. I like the wine cellar upscale vibe. 401 needs to get a chef that can raise the quality of the food to 5 star. The food was adequate and we had a great time. Food was over salty (which is always a dead giveaway to cook vs chef). The drinks also were adequate. As with the food the drinks were good and not at the level 401 aspires to. Summary: Wait until the Chef & Bartender are brought up to speed or replaced. If you want to get a sneak peak yourself, try happy hour. You can get $10.00 appetizers and have an adequate drink. read more
