We had the calamari, we had a shrimp dish. We had mussels very, very, very good, with a smoky, chorizo . baguette. Cucumber martini. $14 for 5oz. Very small. Kai, from Philly our server was very attentive. We are at the roof top bar on beautiful nite.. Not a big selection of dishes. Tapas only. read more

I was actually so excited to try Altana. I traveled here from Tampa. We usually go to the exchange every year on our yearly Lancaster trip and this year, being an elite yelper, decided to try a new rooftop bar. I am so disgusted that I even gave this place my energy. We had a reservation for 8:45. We were greeted by skip and he automatically gave me horrible vibes. You could tell he was highly intoxicated. Skip willingly confirmed that he "knocked back 4 drinks". Being that we had a reservation days in advance, I expected a table appropriate enough to fit my party of 6. Instead, Skip put 3 small circle tables together to accommodate us. It was very uncomfortable. It was a little chilly so my husband asked Skip if we could get a table with a heater to which Skip drunkenly called my husband a pus*y. I was completely mind blown. He also wanted us to pay him extra as a tip to get a more accommodating table still without a heater. We decided to get up and leave and go to the exchange. I respectfully told off Mr. Skip to which he responded sarcastically with "thank you for coming in tonight". He ruined my entire night. I was so angry and it was my last night on one of my favorite vacations. Skip, if you're reading this, you should really inquire with a local rehab. And to the owners, you should be ashamed for keeping this poor excuse of a welcoming committee at your establishment where people are paying decent money for an enjoyable experience. To anyone reading this, just make the reservation at the exchange. read more

Went without looking at reviews, just wanted to enjoy a rooftop experience with good weather. Coming on, the elevator was SO SLOW. But we were promptly seated by our reservation time and immediately served. Our server was knowledgeable, and checked in on us from time to time which we appreciated as they looked very understaffed and busy. Views are spectacular, could see the sunset!. City noise wasn't loud up here, neither was the crowd! Drinks were great and all our food was delivered in a timely manner. Our waters stayed filled and our food was delicious. It honestly wasn't anything extra special but still delicious. I think it's a cute place to try. We will come back again with friends and hopefully be given the same service and good food! They do sell pastries down stairs, it's a shame it isn't on their dessert menu! I would simply come back food good drinks, sweets and a beautiful view! read more

We were looking for a drink and some food on a rainy night in Lancaster. I wanted a classy place, not a sports bar. We stumbled upon Atlanta after several missteps. We went to the Lounge on the 3rd floor( not the rooftop). The elevator was slow but when we arrived it was worth it. Although it was empty, which initially disappointed us, the bar and the dining area were beautiful. Daffney, our bartender took good care of us. We ordered drinks and an 8oz filet with mashed potatoes and green beans. Absolutely wonderful. The Christmas music, the drinks, the food....wonderful! Why nobody knows about this jewel is beyond me. Try it. You'll like it. read more

We had a party of 8 we ordered our food and the waitress was appearly young and inexperienced. For a Saturday night, everyone's food came out except one person. Either the waitress forgot it or the kitchen messed up. The waitress was not very attentive to our table and just missed the mark. I understand she was young and inexperienced. The judgment of management was off. The drink menu has no prices listed. One person in our group ordered scotch and did realize it was $70 a shot because of no prices on the menu. Also, we tried to split the bill between. Couples were forced into one bill for gratuity. The food in was good. The manager made the bill right. Maybe next time the experience will be better. read more

My SIL and her husband were taking my husband and I out for a night on the town since we haven't been anywhere in Lancaster City. We came here to eat dinner and grab a drink to begin our night. We had reservations for 6:45 which was a good thing (it seems like making reservations here is the way to go) and were seated immediately when we arrived. The place seemed busy especially since there was a fairly large party next to us (who were obnoxiously loud at times but that's not the restaurant's fault) , so the service was a bit slow. However, our waiter was very friendly and honest by letting us know ahead of time that the kitchen was getting backed up so we may have to wait a little longer for our food. We were fine with that since we enjoyed sitting and chatting anyway on the rooftop that has a very chill atmosphere. We put in our drink order and they arrived about 10-15 minutes later. I got the lemon basil martini and it was delicious! One of my favorite drinks I've had out. Then, we ordered our food which we did have to wait about 30-45 minutes for but everything was beautiful and tasted wonderful. My husband got a burger and fries and I got the charcuterie board. I wish my SIL and I would have thought to share because she ordered one too and when they arrived, they were filled and we felt we got our $20 worth! Although it doesn't come with any bread or crackers on the menu, we asked the waiter if he could bring some bread for us and he was happy to do so! This outing left us with more of a positive experience than anything and next time we come to the city, we would be happy to come back again. read more

Due to inclement weather I was unable to enjoy the rooftop experience. Yet, the staff accommodated the best that they could. The drinks were great! We had the espresso martini, cucumber martini, the featured spritz(can't remember the name), and the coconut mojito. All were equally delicious!! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting with its warm decor and industrial touches. It is about a 2 minute walk (1.5 blocks) from the Marriott on the corner. Great spot for a night cap after an even at the Marriott! The only thing thing that I would suggest for a better experience is for fine-tuning the younger staff members. There were little mishaps that happened during our visit that made this more a 3.8 out of 5 rather than the 4 out of 5 I originally planned on giving. read more

Great location, great view, great food and great service by Alexis our waitress. Better make reservations. I had the Crab & Cod. Was off the hook delish! Wife had the Chicken Picata which was also on point. Perfect sized portions. Great folks behind the bar! See you next time! read more

The atmosphere was fantastic, we loved the rooftop restaurant. The food was good it just took forever to get. We got there around 5:30 and had to leave at 8:15pm, our food didn't come out until 7:50, all the food had great flavor but my steak was well done not medium rare as ordered. They were nice enough to take it off our bill as we needed to leave and couldn't wait another 2 hours for a new steak to be made. Our server was wonderful and apologetic. read more

I've been to Altana many, many times over the years. This was by far the poorest experience I've ever had. We had a party of four. There was one party finishing up as we sat down and one table that arrived while we were eating. I understand food service and dining has changed a lot during this pandemic, but very simple things should remain consistent. One being customer service. The server didn't greet us, just said use the QR code to access the menu and came back a few minutes later to ask for our drink order. I saw three employees floating around the bar area and it took an extremely long time to get our drinks - let's not forget there were no other patrons on the rooftop at this time. We ordered two or three apps and our entrees at the same time in order to limit contact. About twenty minutes later, with no food in hand, we are told that half the items we ordered are not available. One of my biggest pet peeves is when servers don't tell you upfront that certain menu items are not available. Just be upfront from the beginning, it saves everyone time and is also good customer service. Had we known that half the dishes we ordered were not available, we likely would have gone somewhere else. There was no apology, nothing. We ended up sharing one app and I was one of the lucky ones that actually got their entree. read more

Thank You, Alexis The other day, my friend and I decided to have dinner downtown Lancaster. We ended up going to Altana Rooftop Lounge. Upon arrival, the hostess informs them that they are not seating anyone else because the kitchen was about to close. I announced, " I am new to Lancaster, and I brought my friend with me who lives in E-town. We are excited to be here." The hostess went to ask the owner if he could seat us, and the answer was yes. The vibe, the food, the drinks were terrific. Our server, Alexis, made our experience all the better. I questioned her if she was a local, and at that moment, she could tell that we were either visitors or new to town. Although she had about 15 tables she had to serve, she was still top-notch. She provided me with a list of places to try because I am a foodie and love nightlife. I was genuinely appreciative of her service, personality, and love for her job. When we were finished, I left her a $25 tip. One thing about me is that I LOVE excellent service at restaurants. So a huge thank you to Alexis for making my friend and I's first experience at Altana Rooftop Lounge fantastic. read more

Waited over an hour and 45 minutes and never got out food. Super slow service. Won't come here again

I believe this is the first time I actually dined here (have been plenty of times for drinks/partying) and was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the crab stuffed cod which was perfect and my bf ordered the shrimp scampi, which he also loved. The flatbread was yummy and not pictured (but PLEASE order!!) was our order of sweet potato fries -- perfectly fried and tossed in cinnamon butter. *drooling* Also, the sunset was dreamy. Anyway, I know there are some negative reviews here but I just wanted to share my very positive dining experience! read more

Worst dining experience in any city in the last 20 years. There for special occasion dropping my son off at college. Server actually forgot to enter our main course order in the computer. About 20 minutes after we finished the appetizers, the server came back to "confirm" the entree orders, which was a ruse. 10 minutes after that, he came back to tell us the kitchen just ran out of the cod entree my son had ordered -- which would not have happened if our orders had been entered 40 minutes prior, when the server actually took them from us. Took TWO HOURS for our entrees to be brought out. They had taken our silverware when they cleared the appetizers from the table, so after two hours of waiting for our entrees, we had to sit there and stare at the food for another 15 minutes because they never brought new silverware. I had to go to the hostess station myself and get silverware for the table. The salmon entrees were insultingly small, only 2 ounces. Over the course of two hours waiting for our food, we observed other salmon entrees being brought to adjacent tables, and the portion sizes were shrinking as the night went on. It was clear that after having run out of the cod entree, the restaurant was also running out of salmon and was cheating the customers by reducing the portion sizes to stretch the "inventory." We raised these issues with our server. All he did was say "sorry." No effort whatsoever to make things right with the check, with the food, or otherwise. No visit from the manager. Nothing. It wasn't because they were busy - several tables around us were vacant. Now we know why people are not going there. They ruined our last evening with our son and couldn't have cared less. read more

So... WOW. My fiancé and I came to check out this place as a rehearsal dinner option. I had heard some iffy things about it but wanted to see it for myself. We ran into someone who I believe was the owner or a general manager - he was incredibly rude and obnoxious the entire time we were there. In one instance, the man asked if my fiancé we would like our waters refilled and we said yes, this man whistled and clicked his tongue (like we were dogs) gesturing for my fiancé to place his glass under the bar gun, and then continued to move the bar gun away making my fiancé work to get his glass under the gun. He also made a snide comment about the fact that we had not ordered alcohol, and just ordered food. Took forever for us to get just a BLT. The sandwich was good, no major complaints. But we were immediately turned off by the service and never even ended up asking for event info. We were honestly floored, felt like we were being punk'd. The restaurant is beautiful, it's a shame the staff and ownership ruin the entire experience. Will not be returning or ever recommending. read more

They have vegan options marked on the menu but none of the items that are marked vegan are actually vegan... Also, none of them can even be made vegan. We went to Altana with friends of ours this last week. We've eaten there before, and it's been a generally good experience, however I'm doubtful we will be back after this last time. We had reservations, and were seated right away. The server was friendly but the service was very slow. Initially, we didn't mind the slow service because we were out with good friends and enjoyed the atmosphere and company, but our entire meal took about 2 hours. We ordered the market salad, the wedge salad, the pork chop, and the cod. We shared a charcuterie board. The board was ok. It had 4 different cheeses, and 2 meats. The fresh berries were nice. There were no crackers, spreads or bread to go along with it. The big issue was the market salad. The server described it with strawberries, blueberries, almonds, and some veggies. What was served was a few diced tomatoes, half a red onion and a pile of spring mix lettuce with a 2 tablespoons of dressing on the side (I didn't request for the salad not to be dressed). When the server came by later, I clarified what was suppose to be in the salad, because I thought I must have just heard him wrong. Nope, my salad was missing all of those items. He said "huh, I guess the kitchen must be out of stuff. Sorry about that. I'll check on it". He did not check on it. I did not eat the 2 cups of spring mix or the poorly cut (strong) onions. As for the rest of the food, it was enjoyed. The cod looked great with tons of crab on it. The pork chop was really good (small) but the sweet potatoes were delicious. The other wedge salad was huge (and had everything on it). Everything came out on the cooler side, but we didn't mind that too much. Sure enough, the $27 dollar market salad was on our bill. I had to request to have them remove it. Which he did very kindly, but still! I've never done that before and would really like to not repeat it. I would have happily ordered and paid for another meal given the chance. So go for drinks and to sit outside at sunset. Don't be in a hurry. And definitely don't get the salad. read more

First time... last time. This place failed on so many levels: 1. We reserved rooftop and arrived to find it was closed 2. We waited so long for someone to con's take our drink order in this nearly empty restaurant on a Friday night that we were in open table looking for another when the waiter arrived. 3. The kitchen is very slow. 4. Way overpriced fir the quality. Too many great options to give this place a second chance! read more

I totally agree with almost all of these other reviews. The service is some of the worst around. Bartenders make you feel like you're lucky if they decide to serve you. Don't these people realize they work for tips??? I didn't have any bad experiences with the bouncers as many others have, but it just seems excessive to have that many bouncers at a place this size. Was there a shooting, or some gang activity that I'm unaware of? The entire staffing situation is very strange. I think they need a new manager to really start from scratch with a new staff. If you notice, Altana has not been "claimed" on Yelp, so that shows that they really don't care what people think about their bar. Good owners and managers would be all over Yelp and social media to find ways to make their business better. Tellus is way better and they just had their rooftop redone as well. If Lancaster opens another rooftop bar, Altana will just be a memory. See ya! read more

Food is not consistently good. The chicken piccata had very little flavor or sauce to it. The chicken was cooked through and the presentation was good. We had such a ridiculously bad experience at Altana, and I would recommend to the owner/manager that they hire outside consultants to address the many fundamental issues that the restaurant has. Our experience unfortunately did not include food or drinks, as we were at the restaurant for over 30 minutes without receiving any service at all and decided to go somewhere else. The restaurant was NOT busy at 7:30pm on a Saturday- there were shockingly few people in the restaurant. As I'll explain later, it was so empty in there that it was awkwardly silent. Issue #1 - We had a reservation for 9 people on a Saturday night during restaurant week, but two people dropped out at the last minute so we were only 7. We walked up the stairs to the 3rd floor, but were not sure if were in the right spot. There was no host stand or clear sign that this was the restaurant, no landing space for us to wait for the host to seat us, and no host at all. There was absolutely no indication that we were in a restaurant named Altana, and we had to just assume that we were in the right place. A waitress passing by told us to sit down at the table they set up for us and we told her that we were only going to be 7 - she said that was fine. We took our seats. Issue #2 - there was no silverware at our table, no water glasses, no menus. We sat there for about 5 minutes with nobody coming to greet us at our table or give us menus/water. A different waitress walked up to us and asked if we had been seated here and if we were the reservation party - we said yes, and she said she would go get us some menus. She returned 10 minutes later with our menus, only after I had gotten up to go find her and remind her we were still waiting on the menus. She left again to go make us waters, but after 15 minutes of waiting for water and not receiving it, we decided to leave. Issue #3 - the atmosphere. I have never been in a more awkward restaurant. The room is ornately decorated with giant sculpture-like wall pieces, but the effect wasn't cozy or inviting and did not feel like a restaurant - more like the kind of sculptures you'd find in the lobby of a gaudy apartment building. The lighting was a strange white-blue light that felt too close to fluorescent white. The music was strangely quiet, club-like instrumental music that sounded more like it belonged at a runway fashion show. The room is HUGE, and the decor, lighting, and music did nothing to make it more comfortable or cozy. It felt more like a warehouse. I do not want to eat a $30 dinner in a warehouse . Restaurants need a host stand. It's integral. It helps with organization and ensures that issues like #1 and #2 don't happen. A host can let the servers know that their tables have been seated. Tables need to be set with silverware. Water needs to be served right after the patrons sit down. A server should at least be mildly pleasant or interested in providing adequate service. This experience was a disaster, and the management needs to take a really hard look at their business and make serious changes. read more

Such a nice night out! Food and drinks were awesome. I highly recommend this place. The waiter even took our pictures.

It's not like this place has been open for a week-- or even a month-- it's been open for some time, but what is abundantly clear from jump is that the they who runs this place doesn't know what "they" are doing. No signage informing guests where to go (wound up wandering on the third floor for a while) -- and then once I found the roof-- things went even more farcically awry. SLOWWWWWWW service. Slow. Verra Verra sleep slow. Ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp-- salad came- no shrimp. Literally a half hour later the shrimp showed up. On a lone plate. Ordered the crab and corn fritters (which were hush puppies really) -- the dipping sauce had hardened on the top-- and the fritters were raw in the middle. Sent those back. My friend's burger had been grilled to the consistency of a hockey puck. Wen asked if he wanted a "to go" container, he most definitely said "uhhhhhh-- no thanks." Who I felt the worst for wasn't even us! Those poor servers have to get in the trenches and deal with dissatisfied people all night! (We watched more than one table simply walk out). But. The view is unbelievably great. The ambience is beyond compare-- but just go there for drinks and the view-- and you won' be disappointed. read more
