Wonderful staff that know you by name and remember what you like and don't like. An amazing chef who is always updating the menu with the seasons and what is fresh. I love how each dish can transport me from a memory of dinners with grandparents to a memory of a dinner at a quiet cafe in Paris.

Great meal at one of our favorite places in Central PA, though Covid has kept us away for awhile. I'm pleased to say we loved everything we had, particularly the warm shrimp salad. The oysters, cocktails, and dessert were also terrific. We'll be back soon.

    Prime rib

Everything was absolutely fabulous. From the appetizers of oysters to the foie gras, it was just really elegantly done. We finished our meal with the prime rib entrée with the mashed potatoes, which I can't recommend enough. Our server was very thorough and knowledgeable about the menu and coursed it out perfectly. The ambience and the atmosphere of the restaurant are very classy, yet relaxed. I would love to come back for one of their wine dinners. Make sure to end your meal off with one of their coffee liqueurs!

So, after attending two wine dinners (Spain and Loire Valley), I must change my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Why not the full five? Some of the dishes were decent, not great. Still, the dinners are nice enough whereby the food quality and presentation are improved since my original rating 7/8 years ago. I can't comment on the specific entrees and appetizers as they're not regular menu items for the most part. You get the gist through the pics. I've signed up for 3 more wine dinners in 2021.

Sidney Tavern is easily one of my favorite restaurants around. The food is always amazing! High quality, fresh, and seasonal. Their wine dinners are an indulgent must!

Wow! My companion…read moreand I stopped in on an early Saturday evening after months of "you know, we should try that place sometime." We are glad we finally did. 1762 was formerly known as The Warwick Hotel, and that's the prominent markings you'll see from the street. It is a really excellent spot on the square in Hummelstown with cozy charm and exceptional service. My companion was initially skeptical when she saw wine on tap but immediately changed her mind when she saw the offerings--good quality and reasonable price point. The beer selection is also good. Not a huge number of beers but well-selected. Although we didn't have a full meal we did enjoy the sausage and honey appetizer, which was outrageously tasty with sausage from a local butcher in Hershey. Service was efficient and friendly, especially considering the bar (where we sat) was hopping. We also met the owner, Dave, who rolled up his sleeves to assist at the bar while also personally greeting customers. Our biggest regret is that we waited so long to finally visit...and we'll definitely be back soon.

We started off with the mushroom flatbread, which was delicious. Hubby had the mahi-mahi special and I had a shrimp dish. I got to choose what kind of topping I wanted on my shrimp, which was really interesting. I chose the sautéed mushrooms. Yum. Plus, lots of great choices for sides. We will definitely come back when we are in the area!

The server did a great job with making sure that our drinks were filled, and we had to go boxes and brought our food out in a timely manner. Some of the appetizer choices were the calamari, fried kale and crab claw lollipops. All three were absolutely outstanding, and the portions were large. For dinner, our choices are rockfish, lobster, mac & cheese, filet mignon, or grilled chicken green curry. Again, the portion sizes were large and everyone enjoyed their meals. We were able to choose from a flourless chocolate torte or cheesecake. I forgot to mention that the Caesar salad was so fresh and the dressing was outstanding. I would like to come back and experience the restaurant and their entire menu. The upstairs had a fun, urban feel with a fireplace and a cool bar. We felt comfortable and it was a fun vibe.

You see, back in 17th century England, private houses would open their homes to the public and sell food and beer. Hence, public house. Over time, they dropped the "lic house" and just called them pubs. Because you never dropped the "lic house" makes me think that you haven't evolved like you should have. And frankly, your food is proof. In fact, it even made me nostalgic. But not in the way you might think. You see, I loved making fun food concoctions when I was a kid. My sister and I would watch this corny show called "Zoom" on Maryland public television, where the kid hosts would make recipes sent in from all over the country. We'd make homemade peanut butter cups using Jif and semisweet chocolate chips. Or weird sandwich combinations like pickles and potato chips and cheese and jelly. The seafood egg rolls weren't the worst part of my meal, but they were definitely sophomoric--as if a kid chef-in-training was asked to whip something up from Chinese food leftovers. Seafood should never taste fishy, yet these did. One bite hit me like something that had been sitting a little too long above the waterline. Not to mention, they were laying on a greasy glob of some mayonnaise accompaniment disguised as a fancy garnish you'd see on MasterChef. One word: Ick. The ahi tacos. Oh boy. My mind fills with seawater the moment I think of them because they tasted as if they had been fished right out of the ocean and then placed on my plate. They were wet. Soaked. Drenched. The gelatinous seaweed clump on each taco wasn't culinary-forward, just unappetizing. I took one bite and wished I could spit it back out, but I reluctantly swallowed it. My esophagus is now aquaphobic thanks to you. The moment the coconut jasmine rice hit my mouth, my tastebuds took the red eye to the coconut tree haven of the Maldives. Normally, this wouldn't be a bad thing, but the rice and coconut had no cohesion. It tasted like my younger self dumping a handful of shredded coconut--the sweetened kind my mom kept in the pantry for the wool on her Easter-shaped lamb cake--into a cup of microwaveable rice. The only redeeming aspect of our meal was your kind, charismatic waiter. He was lovely in every way--attentive, sweet, and helpful. He would have been an incredible host on "Zoom." If only his personality made the food taste better. For your sake, I hope you learn to evolve your kitchen's offerings beyond the amateurish trio I experienced. If not, your restaurant's bones may end up fossilized alongside every other place that couldn't adapt.

It sounds bold, and it is, but it works beautifully. The broth is rich and deeply savory, the cheese pull is perfect, and the crispy rings add a texture you never knew the classic was missing. The pork chop remains the star of the menu--huge, expertly seasoned, and cooked with precision. It's widely considered the best in the city, and honestly might be the best in the state. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, it's the kind of entrée you end up recommending to friends for weeks. Their octopus is another standout, prepared with surprising delicacy. Tender, not chewy, with a perfect char that adds just the right amount of smokiness. It's balanced, refined, and one of the most memorable small plates you'll find locally. And don't leave without dessert--the crème brûlée is phenomenal. Silky smooth custard under a flawlessly torched sugar crust that cracks just right. Simple, classic, and executed perfectly. Between the inventive dishes and the warm atmosphere, The First Post remains a must-visit for anyone who loves great food done exceptionally well.

Not really my kind of thing normally, as I tend to go for whiskey sours (I drink like my grandmother).
