First time at the Bourbon Mill. We sat at the bar and got some samples of the beer on tap and got some appetizers. The artichoke dip was ok but definitely not worth the price. The bartender was very nice and helpful and let us try beers before we got a glass. I love the atmosphere and selection of drinks. I was here on a Thursday night. It was not crowded. Service was quick to take my order. They have gator bites. This for me is a major plus. They always hit the spot. They were hot with great flavor. Their French onion soup. Is some of the best in the area. However portion size lacks for the price. 10.00 for a bowl. It is about a 1.00 a bite. I hope this is not the norm. The I saw our server visiting the table next to us for a 6th time then I tapped her and and said we need boxes and a bill. TERRIBLE SERVICE. The food was meh, the chilli was the worst I ever had and I love chilli. The crab cakes were mostly filling. My wife got a quesadilla and it had bbq sauce and rice...yes rice in a quesadilla (who does that) which absorbs any moisture and made it very dry. The ribs were the only thing that was good otherwise would give food a 1 star. Tried to go to another restaurant in Gettysburg for a party of 12, called ahead on Wednesday and tried again on Sunday and they would not let us to out our name on the 45-60 minute wait list even after I explained the reason being my mother has some medical issues and couldn't drive 20inutes and then wait up to an hour for a table, even offering my credit card to add our name. So we pivoted and called the Bourbon Mill to see if they could accommodate. They said head in over and we will take care of you. We got there about 20 minutes later and they already had a table set for our group out in the patio area and seated us right away. The servers were on point, took our drink and appetizer order, make sure to get the wings and the crab pretzel, both amazing. Drinks were never empty, the food was fantastic and several servers and managers constantly checked on us. It was outstanding service and food. We went there with my family. My very young son ordered chicken tenders. After he started eating them, my brother-in-law noticed that they were totally raw. Not a little undercooked, but not cooked at. all. We brought this up to the waitress who brought over the manager. The manager literally laughed and said I should teach my son not to eat uncooked chicken. He seemed to think it was funny. He was not even slightly apologetic. He reluctantly let my son order something else. Grab your favorite beverage and a comfy seat. This review is gonna take awhile. This was our first visit to Bourbon Mill. Our first impression was great - chalkboard with today's special, friendly greeting, nicely decorated, good ambiance (except zero music). The hostess let us choose our seat and a server promptly came and took our drink order. We're off to a great start! Then, another server came to take our drink order. We explained that we already had someone getting our drinks. Server #2 ended up being our server for our meal. We order a crab dip/tot appetizer - that was absolutely delicious. My husband and I ordered the dinner special from the chalkboard (crab cake and ribs). Our friend inquired about the crab cake. The server said "It's really big but it's not all crab. Some is imitation." We got a good chuckle but he orders it anyway. A few minutes later, the server came back to inform us that they're out of ribs. We were a little bummed but things happen. Hubby orders the crab cake sandwich like our friend. I order the salmon. A few minutes later the server comes back to let me know they're out of salmon. What???? The server's reply "We run out of stuff a lot here." I order a THIRD meal - a steak stuffed with tomatoes and garlic. No sooner did we put in our order for the third time after order one and order two had to be cancelled because they didn't have it when here comes our friends' meals. They eat their meals while we wait about another ten minutes for ours to arrive. One of our friends asks for mayonnaise for his crab cake sandwich. Our other friend needed a refill of her water. The server comes back with mayo and a refill but it's soda. Before she could tell him she was drinking water he was gone so she decided to just drink it because she's thirsty. She then realizes it's diet soda - blah! My steak which was supposed to be stuffed with tomatoes was paper thin (think shaved steak) and was stuffed with cooked spinach and not a single tomato. At this point, there's no way I'm requesting a change even though I loathe cooked spinach. So I pick I out and eat it anyway. Our friend excuses himself to use the restroom. He returns to the table with dripping hands. You guessed it - no paper towels. We have a good laugh about everything they're out of. The server comes and asks if we want anything else before the bill. Our friend asks for a refill in a to go cup. The server comes back with his soda in a plastic cup with an apology. "Sorry, no lids." We had another good laugh and our friend said "I hope they're out of paper for the bill!" Another server walks by and our friend asks her for a lid. She brings him two! Now it's time for the bill. My hubby was charged for fries even though he asked if his sandwich came with them and was told it did. We pointed it out to our server who said it was his fault because he thought it comes with fries but it doesn't. He said "There's nothing I can do about it now so just take it out of my tip,". Our friend asked why he was charged 25 cents for mayo for his crab cake. The server's reply "because we nickel and dime for everything here"! Oh my! We had a great meal here. I've been wanting to try this place for a while but with covid, it's been hit or miss with it being open. We finally drove past last weekend and saw it was packed hence open!! Yeah! We weren't free until Monday but having it calm midday Monday made for an exceptional experience. Red, our bartender, was super knowledgeable about the area, the newly remodeled mill, and of course the food and drink. She was excellent !! There was nothing open at the bar so we opted for a high top, our waitress was great we got drinks in and were able to try a beer on tap. Unfortunately they couldn't find the drink menu so that was unfortunate. We ordered the loaded tots with beer cheese, good but could have used more cheese. We got our appetizers in about 10 minutes. Our dinner took about 45-60 minutes to come out- very slow. For dinner I had the French dip I would give that 5/10. I wasn't a fan of the roll, it tasted more like a cheesesteak with French onion soup for the dip. There was too much bread and not enough meat. First time dining here since Chuck the new owner bought and remodeled the place. First impression was positive walking in seeing a whole new look. High fives on the makeover. It was 4:30 pm, crowd was thin, less than ten with our three. The greeter at the door was not what I would say the beat first impression, you want friendly, outgoing etc. as your first contact, she put me in mind of someone on work release from jail, just happy enough she wasn't still locked up in a cell. Our waitress was top notch though. Super friendly, pretty knowledgeable of the menu. Could not answer basic questions regarding gluten free item though. That is so important in the world of allergies. She told us the french fry fryer was a dedicated fryer for fries, that was a positive, since some folks can get very ill or even die if they get gluten when they can't have it. She got our orders perfect, was prompt, returned several times to check on us. She earned 4.5 stars alone. She is good for the business. The food we orders was very good. The garlic parm wings were very good. Tasty. Our burgers and steaks could have had more seasoning but thats just our preference. Both were excellent as they were though. Portion size was plenty. The only dislike for us besides the greeter was we don't prefer the hi-top tables, they're too small. Next time we choose a booth. No business can please everyone so really Chuck has nothing to worry about provided he can keep good help and continues to offer good quality food like today!! UPDATE: 45 minutes after we had eaten, my wife is violently sick, vomiting, diarrhea etc. I called back to restaurant to verify the info our waitress told us was correct regarding dedicated fryer for fries, only to be told by a manager that was incorrect information, the same oil is used for a variety of items including items with gluten. This is very bad, giving incorrect information can kill some persons with gluten allergies. Fortunately for us, my wife only gets very sick for a few hours. This could be so bad. This is one on my go to comfort places yes it is a bar and grill but this place never disappointed. I go mainly for the food and there wings are big and done very well i recommend the sweet chilli or jerk. Food is very delicious the atmosphere is great, place is big with outdoor bar, firepit and more food menu is great drink menu also great the service is great however they do seems to be short staffed from time to time but they make due and still do excellent. No servers wore masks, actually had ketchup bottle, and salt and pepper shakers on the table. Restrooms were filthy. Bad experience all around would not go back. Better yet they have a pavilion below the restaurant and they were having a private event there, the one and only waitress to wait on the party of approximately 30 people literally walked and carried food, buckets of beer, etc., from the main restaurant/bar down to the pavilion. But as far as the food goes, there's room for vast improvement. Stopped by late afternoon for an early dinner as Gettysburg was just bustling and we knew that the restaurants would be busy. Our mistake. I ordered a day's special-brisket Mac and cheese, a bargain for $8.00. You truly do get what you pay for, and what I got was a plate of Kraft mac and cheese( you instantly recognize that tube shaped pasta) hidden under shredded, tasteless beef of some sort with some streaks of barbecue sauce on top for a lovely presentation. I know that I didn't order from the kiddie menu! I was literally dumbfounded that a restaurant would put this on their menu as an entree. It was beyond awful. My friend's brisket sandwich was lackluster as well, served with a sad looking pickle and generic potato chips. But, our server was very nice. It took about 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. He got us our drinks some menus and that was the last anyone acknowledge us. The couple aside of us told us it took an hour to get a soup and a salad. Another couple told us they had been waiting 45 minutes and still haven't gotten their food. Shortly after that the waitress came over and told him they were out of the item he ordered and asked him to order something else which they were also out of. Still no one even took our order. We decided to leave but it took me another 10 minutes just to waive down a bartender to pay. The place inside was well done but they were way under staffed. We will go back, I am leaving this review letting them know every one at the bar was upset because the staff was overwhelmed. We expected to at least have someone take our food order. My boyfriend and I stopped in last night to grab a drink and an app, we ordered the Cream of Crab soup to eat there and one of the Chef Specials, Chicken Scampi, to go... we got our soup and the bartender realized as she brought it to us it was cold so she sent it back to be heated, as we waited we noticed a to go bag come out but it was just sat on the bar, we waited another 15 min and still no soup, she came back out to tell us it needed heated again, another 10 min go by our soup finally arrived and had a noticeable film on the top, we still tried it and it was horrible, she didn't charge us and the servers we very kind and helpful, then we noticed that it indeed was our togo food that had been sitting on the bar the whole time.... had to throw it away when we got home and saw it... such a disappointment honestly as we LOVE the wings there.
