Classic! Traditional home style cooking in a friendly atmosphere. We stopped for breakfast and couldn't not have been happier. Between the creamed chipped beef on toast, scrapple, and the fluffiest blueberry pancakes, we were in hog heaven. Then the table next to us convinced us to try the pudding, saying it was the best they've had in decades. Mind you, this isn't no sweet dessert pudding - more like unformed scrapple. It blew our minds. Don't ask what's in it: just try it. The Palms is obviously a much-loved local place. It was full of families and regulars. The waitstaff knew everyone by name. We're so lucky to have stumbled onto this gem. read more

We came here for breakfast and it was fantastic! We ate at the bar, with the "regulars" and they made us feel right at home. We had the crab cake benedict, the breakfast pizza and the ham and egg sandwich. The portions were large and everything was really tasty. The menu and décor screams diner, but the food is way better than that. It is a family business- food cooked by the two matriarchs of the family. I would highly recommend this place. read more

This a small little restaurant that if you blink going through town you will miss it. There is a bar on the otherside.I had to be hungry when I got there. There were a lot of temping items on the menu. And the menu was not that large. The food for the price and quality was worth it. The service was friendly and on top of things. Since my original review, my wife and I have made this our regular Sunday morning breakfast. While she has been rather strict on her order (either Crab Benedict or the crab omelet (of which both are amazing!) I have typically gone off the menu and typically try new specials. The banana bread French toast has got to be one of my most favorite. It amazes me how the bread is so light and fluffy and not sogged down by the egg. It is not heavy at all. The pumpkin pancakes are also a favorite. In fact, in about 12 trips, I have yet to eat a regrettable meal. I also love the variety in coffee mugs. Again, I have yet to drink from a duplicate cup. I have yet to waver on moving my stars down one bit. And we will continue our new tradition, even if they were closed the last 2 Sunday mornings (Christmas and New Years) read more

Small town restaurant, with home style food. My husband and I had breakfast here on a road trip to Pennsylvania. We both ordered hot chocolates, which were rich, served in glass mugs, with real whipped cream on top! My husband got the steak and eggs, and I had the sausage and gravy. The steak was well done instead of the ordered medium. I enjoyed my sausage and gravy, even if it wasn't anything special. Overall, the food was on the salty side, but it was pretty good. I love this homey little place. If you are in Emmittsburg (for some strange reason) and you are hungry, I would make my way to The Palms ASAP They have a small dinning area, but it fits more than you would think...the wait staff are super friendly, and you can always count on this place for some down home comfort food. This place is not fine dinning, but it does the trick (especially if you are nursing a hangover.) They have a small bar on the opposite side of the dinning room which is quaint and well stocked:) Lots of crab-themed foods (its maryland, people) whwich are always delicious....2 different kinds of crab soup-both are yumm! *3.5 stars* We made a very random stop here for lunch on our way from DC to Harrisburg, PA. It was a pleasant stop and the server was very friendly and helpful, although they did take a lot longer than we would have liked to bring out our sandwiches for lunch. Here's a rundown of our meal: Cream of crab soup - Tasty, not particularly spicy and a little too salty Prime Rib sandwich - DEEEELICIOUS. Really, really good. The Palms is not fancy...but its good. Prices are reasonsable, atmosphere is homey, and people are warm and considerate. The large white board displays the specials of the day. They are ALWAYS a good choice. The table in front of the board is not a good choice, unless you're looking to meet people (because everyone will stand at your table to read the specials.) read more

My family stopped in here to eat last weekend while we were busy getting the house ready for the holidays and we had to eat - I refused to give in to the child whining about wanting chicken nuggets again. Again. We were going to have a real sit-down dinner for some real food, dagnabbit (does anyone say that anymore? hmmm, did anyone ever say that?). The major positives to the Palms are that: what they do well they do very well, they are a good value, and the folks who work there are wonderfully friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is very small-town casual, and there is a warm and cozy bar in a room attached to the restaurant. My wife had the crab cakes and they were indeed terrific - all meat as well. I had some of their specials, which included a cup of delicious lobster bisque soup (wish I had gotten the bowl!) and my entree was their stuffed shrimp (wish I had also ordered the crab cakes). And my son got the pizza. The pizza was really very disappointing. It was somewhere less than supermarket freezer pizza like Tombstone and hovered near elementary school cafeteria pizza. He had one bite, would not eat more. He asked me to try and I had a bite and saw what he meant, but we took the rest and boxed it to go - but not sure why, as it was thrown out. Then we had deserts - oh my, deserts are definitely a highlight here. And you do have to watch the specials board, they run out of the popular selections.The Red Velvet Cake and the Chocolate Cake with PB Icing was gone sometime after we saw the specials board and before we ordered desert (maybe one should order desert before it is time to eat it?). I believe they pretty much either make or locally order their deserts. So I got the Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake and my wife had something I honestly cannot remember but they were both awesome. I vaguely remembered eating here before a couple of years prior, and the one thing I remembered form that meal was their 3 berry pie. A good place to eat in the area, and a good value. I am sure I will eat there again, but like me you should stick to what they do well. And I hear that does include breakfast, but I have not tried that there yet. read more

Recommended by two folks at a local shop. It was exactly what they said it would be. Good home cooking. Shrimp and grits balls were made in house and tasted exactly like I anticipated they would. Portion was perhaps a little small for the price, but I would definitely get them again. Burger and gravy fries were fine. Nothing spectacular. Caramel apple cobbler pie (or something like that) was made by the waitress' grandmother. It was incredible. My buddy had decent soup and the turkey lunch skillet. He said they were both very good. Place looked clean and well kept. Not a huge menu, but plenty to choose from and it looks like they usually have a few daily specials that are not on the menu. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. And you can tell that the the owners and waitress cares. All in all, a good solid place to eat. We both agreed that if the place was in our town, we would be regulars. read more

Reading the other reviews, I feel like I didn't even go to the same place. Just had a couple beers and bites, but the shrimp and grits fritters were still frozen on the inside. Gravy fries were fine, nothing to write home about. Nice friendly staff. read more

The last time I visited I ordered banana bread French toast and that was seriously the BEST breakfast I have ever had. They also serve great pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and breakfast sandwiches! I was looking for somewhere to eat and I saw this location. I thought to myself, "Well that looks decent." I WAS WRONG. This was much more than just "decent." It was spectacular taste-wise and price-wise. For 3 people it was below $30. I strongly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a cheap and good meal. read more

Chose this place based on other Yelp reviews & though it worked, it definitely didn't live up to the hype. The overall feel of the place was rather glum & I definitely felt like an outsider throughout our lunch experience. This was largely due to the service, though efficiently quick - just not very friendly. It is what it is, but the combination between the older patrons dining at that time & our rather smug server had me on my very best behavior, using all my manners! Almost like having dinner at your grandma's house. Speaking of which, the food reminded me of my grandmother's cooking... the one that cooked without seasonings & the one that I'd just rather visit, not partake in a meal with. So though my crab cake with mixed vegetables, as well as the Maryland crab soup had potential it fell short on what it could be. Kids were happy with their fries & chicken tenders, but fried food sells itself. There doesn't seem to be too many local dining choices for this area, but there certainly has to be better ones. read more

Yay! I'm the first to review this place! I adore the Palms for its down home delicious food. It's what I'd imagine a grandmother who is a very very good cook to be able to whip up. It's not prentious and there are hot dogs on the menu but that doesn't mean its not a great place to get a bite to eat. The specials and sides and other changes to the menu are posted on a white board in the dinning room. The dinning room is tiny by the way and mostly full of older people. The prices are reasonable and the service is usually very good. My parents complain that they charge you for each cup of coffee though, so go figure. The specials sometimes feature country classics that you won't be able to find them any where else. Hot cakes and pork puddin' anyone (pancakes and pork's liver sausage)? The truth is, my parents live in Emmitsburg and I try to get them to come here whenever I visit. I think my last meal (if I were to ever have the misfortune of choosing one) would be the Palms pan-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and stewed tomatoes. read more

We were headed to a different restaurant in town as we were passing through. My husband decided to ask the firemen in town for their recommendation. Hands down they recommended The Palms. Great little diner with basic and delicious food (we had burgers, fries, and red wine), very friendly staff, casual atmosphere. Super reasonably priced. Glad we went there! read more

My wife and I love the Palms for breakfast! The owners are very kind as well. The free jumbo hot dogs and sour kraut during the blizzard of early 2010 was a tremendous blessing to me. My advice is to get there early on the weekends because the place will fill up quick! The Palms is definitely the best place for breakfast in northern Frederick county! read more

We came here for breakfast, and found it totally packed. Good sign, right? It was about a 15-minute wait to be seated. When we got the food, though, we were underwhelmed. The blueberry pancakes were tough, pre-mixed affairs with just enough blueberries to remind you that you had paid extra. The eggs were greasy, the home fries incredibly so. Requested milk for coffee and never got it. Took a long time to get the check. Meh. I will say that the home fries were well-seasoned. read more
