We ate here once and because it was so good we came back again. Delightful little place full of charm. Reminded me of the bookstore in You Got Mail called Shop Around The Coerner. I had the Vegetable Omelette and the Southwest Omelette. Both were excellent. Don't be in a hurry here - enjoy the efficient and friendly service and atmosphere.

Neat mom and pop place. Stopped by because of the yelp review. Definitely a small place with lots of locals. Not a lot of seating which isn't a bad thing. The staff was helpful and definitely point out some great food. I had the house sandwich. Definitely comfort food. The portion was perfect and would come back just for just that. Yelp did not let me down!

For an outstanding breakfast, cozy and quaint atmosphere and spectacular customer service, you MUST visit The Village Book and Table. Best French Toast in PA. Just like Mom used to make. This is a must visit restaurant (more than once) anytime we visit Gettysburg!!!!

As far as small town breakfast places go, this is as good as it gets. Everything is a mishmash of old furniture, country decorations and just a smattering of patriotism in a tip of the hat to nearby Gettysburg. The breakfast menu has all the usual suspects. Locals abound. I think I sat in a counter stool that "belongs" to a local, because the old guy sat right down next to me and kind of gave me the stinkeye...but didn't say anything about it. :) If I lived around there, I would be an every day regular.

    Club with fries.

Consistently good food. Great staff. Step back in time where restaurants were ran by people who cared about their customers and food served.

Very good breakfast and lunch. It is a real mom and pop place. Many locals gather there daily. I think open 6am until 2pm. Friendly staff.

Now, years later, my wife and I would pass by the new 81 diner and would always say we needed to try it. We'll, today was the day. We stopped in for lunch, and aside from a gentleman waiting for his to-go order, we were known as the customers. I guess not a lot of people eat at 3 in the afternoon. The atmosphere was very nice. The tables, chairs and booths all fit the diner nicely. My cheesesteak sub was very tasty. Their menu said no substitutions, but they let me withhold the lettuce, tomatoes and onions, which I'm not fond of, so I'm glad they let me do that. Along that note, my wife ordered the BLT sandwich, and gave me some of the bacon, which was really good! Our friend George ordered the pizza burger, which also looked good, and he seemed to enjoy it. Their fresh cut fries were fantastic as well. If I had anything to complain about, it would be that the music being piped in was too modern for a classic diner atmosphere and wasn't something we were expecting. Hopefully that's something they will eventually change. Maybe next time we will stay long enough to try some of their desserts, which looked pretty good too. We will definitely be back soon.

Lunch is less $ than a stop at McDonald's. Almost always get the fried cod sandwich, it's big and very tasty. Soups are excellent, meaty chicken noodle and (when they have) it stuffed pepper soup tastes like a stuffed pepper. . Their cakes come from Baltimore and are wonderful, I promise you will never forget the baklava cake, when they have it prepare to share, decadent and large slice for what it is. Their iced tea is the best. Service is fast (when they're not swamped) and friendly, I come once a month on road trips but they remember me and check if everything is ok and a drink refill a couple of times. Good thing I don't live closer, probably would go once a week or more. Ambiance is different but friendly depending where you sit. At the counter I run into regular locals almost every visit. They are friendly and love, share stories and joke with their waitresses. But this is more than a diner. As well as the classic diner they have a private dining room for about 20 and a large dining room for more than 75. Some lunch times it has 50. Locals, travelers and truckers come here for lunch.

We both went with the dinner specials, which were only 14.99 each and came with two sides. I ordered the ribs and my husband got the NY strip with butterfly shrimp. For the price, the portions were honestly huge. My ribs were fall off the bone tender and coated in a tangy BBQ sauce that had just the right balance of sweet and smoky. Easily one of the better diner style rib plates I have had. The fries were natural cut, perfectly seasoned, and had that ideal texture where they are pillowy inside with a light crisp on the outside. The succotash was simple but still good and comforting. My husband's steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had great flavor throughout. The butterfly shrimp were crispy and paired really well with the steak. His side salad was super fresh with iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, and shredded cheddar. I did not even get a photo of it because he immediately dug in and loved it. The service really stood out too. Everyone was so attentive and quick to help with anything we needed like extra napkins or more sauce. It felt very welcoming and genuinely cared for. The interior has that true hometown diner feel where it seems like everyone knows each other. It is mostly booths with some tables and even a classic counter with stools, which gives it that nostalgic diner vibe. With both meals and drinks, our total was under $40, which feels rare lately for portions and quality like this. This is one of those spots where you leave full, happy, and feeling like you got an actual deal. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area.

The fries that came with the Mac and cheese were not impressive. The chocolate milk was loved by the kiddos. - French toast - I tried some of this and wasn't impressed. But once again the kiddo loved it and finished it. The chocolate milk was also devoured. M.O.A.B. - 2.5* the toast was fine. The eggs were fine, they were over easy (asked for over medium, but not a big deal). The home fries were on the drier side. The pork chops were tough. The hot cake was fluffy but nothing special. Would've enjoyed it more with real syrup. Sausage & gravy on home fries - 2* very little sausage and gravy compared to the home fries. I thought the home fries were fun as they were little potato discs, but I didn't want nearly as much as what came with the meal. The sausage and gravy was also lacking in flavor.
