After a long drive in this scorching summer weather we're having, I was only too happy to discover this restaurant in the small town of Thurmont. It seemed to be the only one open for dinner on a Tuesday evening. The bright red paint with white trim on the interior is lively and represents a barn setting. TKK is a gathering place for locals. It's worthy of mention that no one was using their mobile phones. Diners were talking to one another and unwinding from their day. It's a nod to an earlier, more genteel era in America and lovely to see. The broasted chicken, as many yelpers have raved about, is one of the hallmarks of this spot. I saw a lot of it coming out of the kitchen. It takes 25 minutes to prepare, so be forewarned, but it's very good and worth the wait. I had a pretty decent lump meat crab cake sandwich that cost $12.00. The French onion soup is commendable. TKK is popular, and so there can be a bit of a wait, but not bad. The menu is full of comfort foods, well executed for the most part. It's certainly appropriately named.

We were driving through the area and needed a place to stop for lunch. This was a perfect spot! Great local place. It was clean. Staff were friendly and very attentive. The food was delicious! The menu has lots of choices and very reasonable priced.

A solid average restaurant. If I lived in the area I'd probably be a more regular visitor but as I do not I think the next time I visit I'll check out some other places first. Their crowd was on the geriatric side. That could've been due to it being a weekday afternoon but I think it was a telling sign about their clientele and food style. What we got: Honey Do sandwich - 3.5* overall pretty great! The pickle on the side though was just a few slices, not what I was expecting at all. (Forgot the name) - triple Ruben melt - 3.5* by my partner (I liked the chicken sandwich better). The melts came with two sides so we tried the loaded mashed potatoes and corn fritters. Both were solid side options though nothing extraordinary. Red velvet cheesecake ice cream sandwich - 3* the cookie portion of the sandwich tastes like chocolate biscotti. The ice cream cheesecake was interesting. It was a dessert I ate and finished not one I'd get again.

Great chicken sandwiches... small but comfortable dining room for all family sizes.. the staff was very nice. I had the honey Do fried chicken sandwich and it was GREAT. My son had the Nick grilled chicken...he liked it but said the fried chicken was better. We had loaded bacon cheese fries and they were soggy. Could have made them better for the price. The fries was more then my actual sandwich which was confusing. The dessert we took home. A Pumpkin muffin and a apple parfait. The parfait was very good and the muffin was a little bland( Nothing special ). I probably will not return unless in the area but if I do I definitely will skip the appetizer and go to the fried chicken!

Broasted chicken with potato wedges, green beans. broccoli salad and roll. $12.99

An easy stop for anyone traveling on Route 15. Adorable and clean country restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered a hot turkey sandwich and the broasted chicken. The food was tasty. We didn't expect a white gravy on the turkey but it was good. The broasted chicken was delicious. I didn't care for the potato wedges or the broccoli salad. It appears most of the stuff is made on site. The desserts looked amazing but we were really full from the large portions so we bought some to enjoy later. Definitely worth a stop!

The Big Breakfast

This place is amazing. The food was the true meaning of a full home cooked meal. If you are ever in the area, it is absolutely worth coming to this place. I ended up getting The Big Breakfast. It was big but not so big that someone couldn't finish it.

The food was very good as was the service. A very low key and casual place to eat. I would recommend it for a great comfort food outing.

First of all, I am very surprised and disappointed by the negative reviews that I have seen here. I…read morehave eaten here once or twice a month for 30 or so years. Did anyone else notice that most of the malicious reviews appear to be from some "ficticious" school teacher/chaperone, many of them from California? The buffet here has always been very good; the vegetables tasty and firm, the meats very good and the desserts have always been excellent. The desserts include; pies, jello, puddings, cobblers, cookies, brownies, cheesecakes and iced cakes. I have never seen such a huge variety of desserts (almost always about two dozen varieties) at a buffet before. I have never seen dirty plates or silverware either. I have never become ill from the food and the place has always been clean. The salad bar has always been fresh and tasty, with a huge variety of toppings and dressings.. If the food was so bad and making people sick, the parking lot wouldn't be packed every single time that I have been here in 3 decades. I think a lot of the bad reviews show serious and vicious anti conservative/anti christian bias that liberal "Karens and Kevins" embrace. Some of the negative comments about the appearance of employees are just vicious. I have never had a bad or poor meal here. I have never become ill from eating the food. It has never been dirty there in any way. The malicious, deceptive and vindictive reviews reveal a deep seated psychological disconnect with reality and cognitive dissonance in some of the reviewer's minds. This is a clean, safe place to eat, the food is always very good, the prices are reasonable and the staff has always been pleasant and responsive for the past 30 years that I have been there.

Stumbled on this place but what a find. Wait staff was on top of everything. Crab cake was amazing…read moreand all crab, no fillers. Prime rib was exceedingly tasty and had to be bigger than advertised 14 ounces. Then the desserts were awesome also. Piano player made it nice and not too loud where you couldn't hear. My wife and I had dinner at the Carriage House on Thursday evening November 20…read more Well, it's still one of my favorite places to dine but I'm downgrading in my rating from five stars to four stars. Why?... Well, while the prime rib beef dinner was still was delicious the portion size of the beef was greatly reduced over what we've had there in the past. Both prime ribs were only about 1/2 inch thick... In the past they have been constantly been 3/4 inch thick and sometimes almost an inch thick. While they were done to our liking, one rare and one medium rare, both were a little on the tough side and not as tender as ones we've had there in the past. It was a chilly night on November 20th and I made a reservation for one of the tables close to the fireplace in the dining room. When we got there, the fireplace was not on. I asked some of the staff whether or not the fireplace could be turned on and they said it was too early. One staff member volunteered that yes, it was pretty cold in the whole dining area. Our server with Bonnie... And she was excellent. The bill for two prime rib dinners, one cup of onion soup, two additional side salads, one iced tea, and one diet cola came to $101 plus tip. Hoping that when I return again on a night when the Carriage House is serving prime rib that both the portion size and the quality will be what I remember from the past, not what I remember from last night.
