This was my 5th or 6th visit to Riks Cafe, and it never disappoints. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the vibe is a perfect mix of modern and cozy. The drinks are always amazing, and the food is just as impressive. I highly recommend the buffalo tots as an appetizer--they're a must-try. I spent a night in Hagerstown and Rik's Cafe showed up as the highest rated place. It didn't disappoint. I was part of a large group and we had a lot of food and drinks. No one was unhappy. The wings were very good and their crab Rangoon was the best I ever had, in my life. For dinner I had the crabby chicken which was a chicken breast top with crab meat served over rice, with fresh vegetables. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. I literally cleaned my plate everything was so good. Two colleagues ordered the rib-eye. It was so good that one asked me to help him finish his. It was very tasty. Even though we had no room we still had dessert. I wasn't a huge fan of the cocktails. Several of us had the old fashioned, but I ended up switching to something else. They do have a long list of cocktails and a nice selection of spirits. A much better choice than any chain. read more

We finally made it to Rik's Cafe. It did not disappoint. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious. We started with duck wontins. We loved every bite of it including the garnish. However, we did not taste much duck. For our meals we got the reuben and the tipsy shirt ribs. Both were great choices. We ended our meal with fried cheese. Another winner choice. My family was on the search for a local restaurant to try before going Black Friday shopping at the Hagerstown outlets. I came across Rik's Cafe nearby which had great reviews. We were seated immediately and noticed that the cafe was pretty busy throughout our time there. We ordered the crab grilled cheese, angus burger, and mango jerk chicken sandwich. The food took some time to come out, but that gave us more time to appreciate the decor around the restaurant! Once our food came, it looked delicious! My grilled cheese has plenty of crab, but the sandwich overall was very soggy and the bread was not well toasted and sturdy. The fries were also disappointingly soggy as well, so my meal was quite mushy. My brother enjoyed the mushroom angus burger more than my mom, but they both agreed that there was a lack of mushrooms in the burger despite the name. My dad noted that the chicken in his sandwich was dry and he couldn't really detect the mango. He did say that the sweet potato fries were really good. Overall, Rik's was not bad and is an alright option for the area, but the food did let us down a bit. read more

Used to go here regularly, but was very disappointed with our last visit. I ordered a Caesar Salad to start, and the Open Face Peppercorn Burger. The salad came out with blue cheese dressing, a simple mistake. The burger, on the other hand, literally had a 1/4 cup of peppercorns in the sauce. That is unlike any peppercorn sauce I've ever had, and not appetizing. When I mentioned this to the server he said he should have warned me... I sent it back without any replacement. We are in Hagerstown for a swim meet in Mercerberg, PA. Found Rik's through Yelp and oh boy, were we so thankful for the reviews and recommendations! We were starving and ordered garlic Parmesan chicken wing for appetizer with our soft drinks. The wings were spot on- and we are Buffalonians who know wings! Definitely order it! For our entree, my husband who is always in search of the best Ruben sandwich found this to be his second favorite of the hundreds he has tried up to now! His only recommendation would be for the chef to replace Corn beef with Pastrami! My son ordered the bison burger which he devoured! There wasn't a crumb left on his plate. I ordered the Caprise salad with grilled chicken. It was so delicious, I didn't want to leave any on my plate and made myself eat every bit of it!! The icing on the cake for this experience was the sweet potato fries served with apple dip! It was so delicious I brought the leftovers back to the hotel to snack on later! Rick's Cafe has usually been a great place for dinner in the 8 years I have lived in the area locally. Our last experience was far from it. The usual short ribs entree that has encouraged me to return many times was dry and undercooked and much different from past experiences. The accompanying mashed potatoes were not hot, appeared old and were a lumpy mess, basically just a few pieces of huge chunks of potatoes that didn't look anything like mashed potatoes. This dish was no where close to the entree years past or deserving of the $27 price. My accompanying dining partner ordered the crabby chicken, also underwhelming, with over seasoned crab, although the chicken was cooked properly, also not worth the $27 price. Both dishes did not come anywhere near the expectations we had experienced in years past at Rik's, when the entrees were great. Our bill totaled $77.86 with two entrees and two drinks. We left very disappointed and will most likely not be returning. I believe in patronizing local restaurants and businesses, but cannot continue to do so at the high prices of eating out these days when the food falls short of previous offerings and experiences. This dining experience occurred the end of August 2025. I sent an email via the website contact page a few days later and had no reply. I followed it up with a USPS letter two weeks later, with a copy of my receipt both times and still have yet to receive any statement or reply to either of my contacts. I sent the comments so the restaurant would be aware of the dining experiences and hopefully appropriate changes could be made to a place I have enjoyed dining in the past. The ignoring of both my contacts is even more disappointing that part of my own, local restaurant community could not take a few minutes to reply by email, phone or letter. Very unfortunate. In a day where the cost of eating out has sky rocketed, the food should be of consistent, high quality, not less. I hope I will be able to read more positive reviews from others about the food, in the future, but it will take a lot to get us to return to Rik's any time soon. Very disappointing. read more

When I was recommended Rick's Cafe, I was surprised it was in a strip mall but the inside ambience is nice and homey. While there are a lot of good menu items I decided to have crab and pretzels appetizer and the garlic wings. These were such a good choice. My friends ordered duck wantons and loved them. I had such a great time at Riks Cafe. I loved the Halloween decor for fall supper cute definitely worth some cute insta pics. PICS + cute drink = FALL. I recommend the Pumpkin spice drink my server was so sweet. Brooke took the time to give me a spooky boo ghost on my drink. This was my second time visiting Rik's Cafe. Last time was for a quiet lunch. This time it was for early dinner. Both times hubby and I were seated on the bar side at a high top table. From the outside. You wouldn't know that this place was more than a dive bar, given its location next to a liquor store at a older strip shopping center. The exterior is very plain and you really can't see inside the windows. Inside Rik's is a quaint, but comfortable small restaurant with a dining side and a bar side. For lunch it was very quiet. I remembered my short ribs and potatoes were very good last time. This time was early dinner time. It was happy hour though there was nothing to advertise it and no happy hour menu shared. We found this out later because my drink was half priced, while the one my hubby ordered later in the meal was full priced. It would have been nice to know. Bar side was packed on a Friday evening. It was a little hard to hear over the lively crowd, but it's all good. I got crab cakes which I did not think were worth the $34 price. They were okay and small but no lump meat, very pale and small. The portion of plain rice that came with it was small but the asparagus was tasty. Hubby got a bison burger with fries. He reported that his meal was fresh and well cooked. The fries were hand cut and tasted very homemade. His meal was great, but again the portion of fries was skimpy. Overall, it's a great little cafe. Based on my prior lunchtime visit I would have rated it higher. But this time, I wasn't fully satisfied (still hungry too), so I will stick with 3stars. Kudos to the waiter though. This restaurant is located in a shopping center that looks a little dicey but do not let that influence your decision to dine there. You won't be disappointed. This is unassuming location for a restaurant which meant our expectations were low. We ordered the buffalo tots which were amazing. We expected a pile of previously force tots but we received 7 very large homemade tots with an amazing buffalo cheese sauce. The Ahi tuna tacos were average. The tacos were overstuffed with jasmine rice with very little slaw. The two large pieces of Ahi tuna were perfectly cooked. The Rueben was also very generous and tasty. Still had a great flavor, crust was crunchy and tasty on the fish, cheese was already melted on the fish, but could have had more fries. A few ordered crab cake sandwiches, a Reuben. The waitress was great and knows the menu well. She made recommendations and noted different ingredients in the foods.
