Let me start by saying my wife turned me on to Safron Bakery a few years ago. She stopped by and liked the baked goods and sandwiches. I even started frequenting the bakery. I've tried a few bakery items and they were ok. However, this review isn't about the food as much as it is about the horrible service my wife received from the OWNER. She arrived at 5:00 pm and placed an order. 15 minutes later, they had not started her order so she asked the owner working, how much longer because she had to pick up our son by 5:30. He told her to get off the phone aggressively. She then asked for a refund. This is a small business and I've never seen the bakery full of customers, so there should be a concerted effort to provide good service. Again, my wife placed her order and waited 15 minutes before asking when would they start on her order. We're never returning to this bakery again. read more

At first glance this place seemed closed. No lit signage saying open but a banner inside that says open. So my wife and I went in to check out the place and from the signage on the door they were open till 6pm. The place was massive with lots of space and plenty of seating, with only another couple there tasting cakes for their wedding perhaps. When you first enter you are greeted by an expansive shelving unit with assorted cookies. Then you are enticed by the pastry case, followed by the bagel case then the menus on the TV for sandwiches. With no one there we took our time looking around, especially since this was the first time we've been there. We decided on two sandwiches and placed our order for the Lamb and Beef Gyro and the Turkey Bistro. Both were made to order quickly and brought to our table. Interesting side note that I was unaware of until after we left was that my wife noticed a sign that stated as of 1.1.24 chips would no longer be included with sandwich's and they would be extra at $1.50 a bag. It's sad to see a nice sandwich platter ruined by a small bag of plain UTZ chips. There needs to be fresh chips or Terra chips with the sandwiches, but it looks like the owner needs to save a bit so he took off chips and added them as a bagged after thought. Then when my wife and I went to talk with the manager, maybe owner, he asked us how our dinner was, which is quite interesting. We made mention that the huge sign on the building promotes breakfast and Lunch, yet they are open till 6pm. So why not promote that you're open from breakfast through lunch to an early dinner because unless you're local, you may not realize that the place is open especially since they did not light their electric open sign they just left the "yes we are open" banner hung up inside the building. When we finished our sandwiches and went back to the pastry counter, the manager/owner asked us if we enjoyed our dinner, which was very odd seeing is that he also said they're not open for dinner so thus, the confusion we experienced. Perhaps the locals understand the whole concept between the signage and when they're open and not open, but I think they need to market themselves as open till six and that it would be a nice way to have an early dinner between the hours of four and six. I'm hoping the signage issue, in addition to the lack of patrons and the overall expansive amount of space is not dragging the place down. I'd like to see them get back to offering chips with their sandwiches and being penny wise and pound ignorant. I can't see I would go out of my way to stop there again however, if I'm in the area, I'd certainly stop by to pick up some bakery items along with some fresh pastries and a good sandwich, but I would probably bring my own chips. read more

We went there at 11:00am to have a nice brunch while traveling, and it looked good based on the website. They were out of quiche, whole wheat rolls, and would not make anything with eggs. The reason they gave was that breakfast was over, yet the website says nothing about a cutoff time for breakfast sandwiches. We decided to go somewhere else. Great bakery! Some of the best cookies I have had! The chocolate chip cookies are huge!! Very soft and taste wonderful. The lemon cookies are amazing!! Such a great flavor. Just picked up our 2 tier 'pond' cake, on the way to the venue, and so disappointed. This sorry excuse for even a child's birthday cake was a complete waste of time and $160. Doesn't include a single element of the what was discussed nor the pics we provided and looks like it was iced by a 5 year old. I do not believe for one second that the cakes displayed on the tv screens were created there. I sit in the car now with the air conditioner running to keep it from melting while my fiancé shops Micheals for cake decorating supplies to try and salvage this piece of crap while we are supposed to be setting up our venue. You want a Sunday morning pastry by all means go there. But don't trust them with anything as important as a cake that you plan to display for guests. He offered us our money back but what good is that when you are driving directly to your venue with no cake at all. My husband and I stopped here for brunch. The Chia latte made me want to be a better person. It was sweet, but that is how I like it. We both had a sandwich and both were fresh and delicious. He had the chicken salad (he gave it an 8.5 out of 10) and I had the turkey bistro (10 out of 10). Great atmosphere, clean facility, and great looking bakery items. So disappointed with the lemon cake I picked up the other day. I used to love the cakes made by Saffron bakery on Robinwood Drive. Now that there is a change of name to Safron and a change of location, there is definitely a change in the quality of their cakes. There is very little cake and a lot of icing in this lemon cake. This place is pretty good, but here is my biggest beef. The owner has had an entire year to figure out how to wear a mask properly but he does not. He wears a disposal mask for what it looks like weeks, with his nose sticking out, constantly adjusting it. He is not making himself healthy and safe, nor his family or the customers. Had high hopes walking in, left disappointed. While the restaurant is nice and in a good location, along with fair prices, the quality was not there. Never had less cream cheese on a bagel in my entire life. I'm not sure how anyone can give this to a customer without any complaint. You guys need to do better. read more

Cute little bakery. Very friendly staff. We had the chicken salad. It was really good. The chai lattes were awesome too.

I would recommend just about everything ! I typically have a roast beef pesto sandwich on a croissant for lunch with a dirty chai. For dessert I'd suggest any of the pastries especially the little almond or fruit tarts. I encourage everyone to try the "almond horn"cookies!! They're gluten free !! Food: I've only visited once and purchased a small loaf of bread with dried fruit inside. It was similar to a pannetone and I really loved it. The bread was moist and had plenty of fruit. My friend purchased a small fruit tart and said she really liked it. She also ordered a mocha, which she liked although it was extremely sweet. Their other offerings looked pretty good but I had just eaten and wanted something for later. I'd check it out again. Recommend: The breads and pastries seem a solid option. I tried Safron in their new location for breakfast this morning. I shared a delicious frittata with my female companion, along with a good cup of coffee. The frittata was delicious and the coffee was hot and delicious. The staff was friendly, accommodating and respectful of the Covid safety measures. We visited today and loved this place. We tried some excellent French pastries, cookies, cappuccino, and hot chocolate. Everything was amazing and delicious! We devoured the food before we could get a picture! There were also some cakes in the case that looked beautiful! The staff is friendly and professional and the cafe was sparkling clean. To begin, I went into the store to place a birthday cake order for a pickup time greater than the 24 hours required on the website. My intention was to order the almond flavor but was told only vanilla or chocolate cake flavors were available. I proceeded to place an order for a different flavor and paid ahead of time to make pickup more efficient which in hindsight was an error on my part. When I arrived to pick up the cake, the employee brought out the cake for me to review. The order had not been filled correctly as the wrong icing was used. The ticket reflected what I had ordered but it was not filled with the requested icing. I inquired about any service accommodation they would make and was told they would not offer anything.... even though the mistake was theirs. In addition, the decorating on the cake was extremely basic and lacked a professional touch. When we cut into the cake, it was dry and the mousse filing was very thin between the layers. I went to safron at the last minute for 2 cakes. I was throwing a 50th Birthday party for my uncle as well as a party for all of the February birthdays. Even though I walk into al shop at the last minute he looked at my 2 cake designs and said he could make it happen. Boy did he. The cakes got nothing but raves. We stopped in on 3/10/18 after eating lunch at Schula's. The employees were helpful and nice; the atmosphere inside was warm and inviting. I was surprised the selection of pastries wasn't larger. They had some cakes, turnovers, cookies, etc. I would have preferred to see more items. We bought a bag of six coconut macaroons for $7.99. They were fresh, moist and had great flavor - some of the best macaroons I've ever tasted. We also bought a box of approx. 25 mini rugalas for $7.99. They were a mix of cinnamon, apricot and raspberry. I wasn't a fan of these and wish they had been larger with more filling and nuts. i got the lemon cake with buttercream icing. i let it come to room temp before i taste it as it was in a cold case . it was YUMMY! the butter cream was no super sweet it was just sweet enough. the lemon flavor was perfect. we got there latter on in the day so the pastry was all but gone for the day. my husband brought me there as i have been on a quest for scones an have yet to find any in virginia or west virginia. well i found a place that call what they had a scone but alas no it was not. this place how ever has scones but were out. will be back to buy one soon an i will make sure to get here in the morning for the primes selections read more

We ordered a cake, some cupcakes and we picked up a tray of cookies for Christmas this year. We wanted to try Safron because we are looking for a baker for our wedding cake. Our experience with the people there was fine, not bad but not out of this world amazing service, either. Just an average visit. The food was disappointing though. The cookies were a nice size, but they tasted very stale. The cupcakes were chocolate and they were very dry and hard to eat. The cake interior was decent, but the frosting on both the cake and the cupcakes was gross. It tasting like Crisco. Frosting is usually my favorite part, but this stuff had to be scraped off and everyone in attendance at our Christmas dinner agreed. It was very heavy/thick, and it just tasted fake. The decor on the cake also wasn't anything to write home about. I probably could have gotten a similar quality/better from the neighborhood grocery store. I ate here once and was more than disappointed. Seldom have I been this unpleasantly surprised. I started with a ham and cheese croissant sandwich. They do not offer butter which is more traditional for a French sandwich, only mayonnaise. That was not a big issue for me. The sandwich was fair. The real problem became apparent after I finished the sandwich and ordered a chocolate croissant. The person at check out asked if I wanted it heated up. A small red flag went up in my mind. I have been to many bakeries and have never been asked this when ordering any fresh bread. I responded, no, however out of curiosity, how would you heat it up? The employee explained they would put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. I was shocked that a bakery would ever microwave fresh bread. I contend every baker I have ever met would scorn at the sacrilege. Within a few moments, it was clear. This was not fresh bread after all. It was hard and dry and lacked every valuable trait freshly made bread offers. I have eaten fresh chocolate croissants many times and know what to expect. To summarize, this place has a pleasant decor, nice plates, attractive cake displays and a somewhat sparse fresh bread selection. It is a great concept with lots of potential that falls tragically short on quality. read more

The absolute worst experience getting a cake made. Paid $60 for a full sheet which wasn't produced to look like the example photo provided. Uneven cake, color border wasn't matched and sloppy unskilled application of scroll applications. Owner/decorator wasn't onsite at time of pickup otherwise a full refund would've been demanded. Subsequent call was made only to be subjected to having to hear that the cake was perfect and matched the demo provided. Pics tell another story. It makes me sad to write this because I really want to like this place and support small local businesses. However, the last few times I've been in, I've been disappointed. I usually go around 3-4 pm, the seating areas have not been cleaned from previous guests, there are crumbs on the tables, and dirty plates, cups, and utensils sitting out, seemingly from the lunch crowd. While the pastries always look delicious, the baklava and glazed donuts sit out in the open, uncovered, right in front of where guests stand and order. For that reason alone, I wouldn't choose one. One of the cups that we were served in was dirty on the outside, and the latte I ordered was watery and very average. The server did not know much about the difference in coffee drinks, and said they seemed all the same; not a great way to sell your specialty drinks. This time the pastry I ordered seemed like it had been frozen and thawed as the crust was not light and flaky like it should have been. This bakery cafe is in a prime location for folks from the college and hospital, but they need to clean up their act. read more
