We stopped by The Main Cup for a late lunch with a party of five and had a great experience. Even though they were still pretty busy, we were seated right away in one of their two spacious dining areas, and our server was friendly, attentive, and quick to get our drink orders started. The restaurant is in a cute location with plenty of parking in a beautiful old town, making it a nice spot to spend an afternoon. The menu had so many tempting options that it was genuinely hard to decide what to order. My husband had the burger and fries and said it was probably the best burger he's ever had. I ordered the chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy, and the portion was huge and packed with flavor. The Cobb salads at our table looked amazing, and our friends once again couldn't pass up the sweet potato fries, which are always a favorite. The only small disappointment was that they were out of the Maryland special crab soup, which I had been hoping to try. We skipped alcoholic drinks, but the bar menu looked extensive, and we did finish with a cappuccino that was very good. Overall, this was an excellent meal with great service, generous portions, and delicious food. We'll definitely be back to work our way through more of the menu. read more

We decided to check out this spot after seeing it recommended a few times in a Frederick Facebook group. It was a Sunday afternoon, and the ambiance was inviting--exposed brick walls, string lights, and a chalkboard featuring the daily specials gave it a trendy, cozy vibe. The menu had a solid variety--from appetizers to brunch items, burgers, salads, and a full bar. We started with the fried pickles, which had a nice flavor, but the breading overwhelmed the thin slices--less pickle, tastes more grease & breading. The spicy ranch dip was a highlight, though! For our mains, my husband ordered the chicken and waffles, and I went with the crab Benedict. His waffle was unfortunately overcooked and wasn't served with butter, which we had to request. My crab Benedict had a strong Old Bay flavor--expected, but it came off a bit too salty for my taste. The homemade potatoes on the side were underwhelming in both portion and had no seasoning. I did enjoy the peach mimosa--it was refreshing and well-balanced. Service was good & friendly but we had to wave down our serve a couple times for butter or water refills. They do offer a military discount, we are so appreciative of the thoughtfulness. Overall, the experience was okay. Great experience here on a Monday for lunch. It was very quiet as we came during the week. The restaurant is clean and beautifully decorated. Our server was fantastic. One of the best iced coffees I've ever had. Too bad the barista was a rude human being. I wasn't able to catch her name, but you'll be able to spot her. The others were professional and then we have whatever she was doing. All I remember is dark hair and a terrible attitude. It takes a lot for me to leave a review like this, especially since I can't remember her name. I would be able to spot her in a crowd though. She wasn't an ugly girl but her energy was atrocious. Food was good, enjoyed the seafood chowder, BBQ wings, and Reuben with fries. It's a cozy restaurant with a little cavern feel to it, with music on Sunday nights. There's both indoor and outdoor seating for good weather days. Harmony was our server. She was so cheerful, sweet and attentive. Loved the service. The place is great. The decor is warm and inviting. Matches the old town feel. The food was awesome. The salmon on my salad was freshly cooked. The basil vinigarette went so well with the salad and with strawberries and blueberries added gave the salad just the right amount of sweetness. Had to hold the pistachios due to my diet. Hubby's bacon was cooked just right. Bacon was not super thin or thick. Delicious describes it best. I didn't get to try the avocado toast but hubby said it was very tasty and had a little kick of spicy. Bathroom was immaculate and smelled fresh as soon as you enter it. This place is amazing. They have a chef's name on the menu now but served dried up frozen French fries. Service was sub par. Time to get two salads was around 25-30 min. We saw other people get their food quickly so not sure if our waitress didn't put in our order?? She never came out to tell us that the food was delayed etc or check on us until we were almost through. Had to flag her down for refills (which is the thing that I really hate.) That should be the easiest part of your job.. Also, having to chase down the waitress just trying to get the check is annoying. Came here on a Saturday night with some friends. Service here was not the issue at all, our bartender was great, friendly and mostly quick considering it was busy. We had ordered hot chocolates and they weren't hot at all, we aren't big complainers so we just kinda went on. But then we got our food and it was fine. The fried chicken sandwich tasted fine but the chicken was painfully thin. For $16 a would have expected a more substantial amount of chicken, Mcdonald's has better chicken. My friend had also ordered a burger rare, it was completely well done and had red onions which she asked to be left off. Probably a simple miscommunication but it's annoying for the price of the items. The only redeeming quality was the sweet potato fries, definitely worth getting. read more

Great service and exceptional food. This is a must do for crab cakes in Middletown. Everyone claims that they have the best crab cakes in Maryland, the Main Cup has the best in the valley for sure. All employees are wearing masks and tables outside we're spread apart for social distancing. Daily specials for today were the ribeye sandwich and shrimp quesadilla. Didn't get either one because, best crab cakes in the valley. Daily happy hours specials on beer and wine bottles are 50% off during happy hour as well. My husband and I ate dinner here at the recommmednation of our Airbnb host. Our meals were delicious and our server Theresa was outstanding. The fried pickle appetizer was unbelievably good - very lightly breaded and so flavorful. The berry salad with grilled salmon included many tasty ingredients and the salmon was cooked perfectly. I really like their crab cakes, they are the perfect combination of flavor and lump crabmeat. I also enjoy trying their house pasta salads as they are always very flavorful. We absolutely love the main cup. Although the owners have recently changed, the service, food, drinks and attention to detail is and has always been there. We have a family of 7 so we've pretty much tried the entire menu. Our typical order is a burger, side of salmon, fish and chips, salad, crab dip, and lettuce wraps. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews about as much as I dislike having bad service and meals. I'll certainly give credit when credit is do, unfortunately, this local establishment escapes me for why people enjoy it. I went there Aug 3, around lunch time. It was steady but not busy. I sat outside, after asking if it was "seat yourself". People were enjoying the weather and nice surroundings. I especially liked the petunias and box wood near were I sat. I quickly found that that was a good thing, for I sat, and sat, and sat as waiters went back and forth. A waiter finally asked if anyone had been by. I said "no". It took another 7-8 minutes before the same gal finally came and took my order. I'd now been sitting for about 15-20 min. I placed my order and the coffee came pretty quickly. Ah... things are looking up. But then, no requested water. I asked another waitress who brought the meal for the forgotten water. Dang it. The fish and chips looked like ones I could by at Costco, and they were oily and Under cooked underneath the crust. However, the fish was cooked. I never saw my waitress since the order. The ketchup tasted strange, whatever brand they used. Like canned tomato paste that was doctored. The tarter sauce was asking to be put out of its misery. No fear I thought, my waitress will be back to check on me. I wanted to ask for malt vinegar for the fries and another cup of coffee. But alas, she only showed up at check time. That service was timely. For a nice birthday with myself I tried to find a way to salvage this unfortunate time alone. So I didn't ask about dessert. And honestly. I don't recall her asking if I'd like some. I do have to say this visit was a shame, but the day was gorgeous and the flowers near me smelled wonderful. I may or may not try this place again. I'd like to give it another chance to make a final "yea" or "stay away". And yes. I gave the gal 20+% since times are rough. Ok..so you know it had to be a spectacular experience in order for me to give this restaurant 5 stars for service given on a busy Saturday evening for a party of 8 people plus 2 dogs :).. Our server Mika was on top of it...our appetizers and drinks kept coming, our entrees were hot, correct and timely, and the desserts were the icing on the cake. On Saturday, May 10, we waited 30 minutes before a server came to our table. Twice we brought this to the attention of staff only to be told that they could not find our server. Someone finally came to take our drink order. When the drinks arrived, it was not what we ordered. A different server came to take our food order. After waiting for over an hour for our food (one and a half hours after we arrived), the fish tacos that I had ordered were chicken and cold at that). I sent the food back to the kitchen and sat there with nothing to eat for the rest of the meal while my companions finished theirs. When the check arrived, the check was wrong. It was sent back only to be returned to us and still wrong. I was so frustrated with this restaurant that for the first time in my life, I considered getting up and leaving without paying. I especially did not appreciate our server standing over us when we signed the credit card receipt watching as we filled in the tip amount. During our "meal," I overheard the table next to us sending one of their dishes back. Coincidentally, we had friends who were at the Main Cup earlier in the day and said that they had a similar experience with poor service and cold food. The Main Cup is a good restaurant gone bad. Went on a Thursday evening and it was a little busy but we were seated right away. Nice night so we sat out on the patio. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Both my husband and I got the filet. It had a nice flavor and was cooked the way we ordered it (medium rare for him, medium for me). The wait for our food was about 20 minutes which seems reasonable. Very disappointed to have arrived last evening well before the stated hour of 9pm, only to be told that the kitchen was closed due to lack of customers. Really??? The owners should consider empowering the manager to offer patrons who are caught in this situation a gift certificate or coupon for 10-20% off their next visit so they don't leave feeling really angry, hangry, and disappointed. Although we have liked The Main Cup in the past, we will think twice about returning. It's time for restaurants in Middletown and Frederick to start acting like they really want customers to patronize their establishments.
