Great location with ample parking. If you come today, be prepared to get in line because the inside is small. Deb & Nikki are wonderful baker. All their baked goods are yummy, flaky, and worth the price and calories. Thank goodness, I exercised this morning. Deb and staff are fabulous, welcoming, and always smiling. I cannot say enough good things about Deb's Artisan Bakehouse in Middletown, MD! This small bakery offers both sweet and savory items for its customers to enjoy! I was shocked by the wide variety of pastries, pies, bagels, cookies and much more available in the small bakery. As soon as you enter the doors, the warm smell of fresh-baked goodies fill your senses. The menu changes weekly, so there's always something new to try. The staff work quickly and are very friendly and helpful. They took the time to explain the items to customers and struck up conversations with the regulars. The treats are on the pricey side, but they're 100% worth every penny. I selected a morning bun and a raspberry jam sugar cookie and LOVED each item. As I ate the cookie, I kept repeating "this is soooo good!" Once they sell out of each item, they're done for the day, so be sure to visit early. If you're in the Middletown area, I highly recommend visiting Deb's Artisan Bakehouse. You will *not* be disappointed. read more

These pastries are insane!! We got the turkey, fig jam, and brie croix, Blackberry cruffin, Strawberry cheesecake danish, Raspberry jammy hands pie, and a Tiramiso tart. Everything was incredible but I am going to dream about that turkey, fig jam, and brie croix. This place is open Thu-Sat from 9:30am until sellout and I highly suggest you get there early because there is always a line and it gets long quick. We got there at 9:10am on a Friday and we were second in line. They have something different every week and different items not list each day. It's a small building, there is no seating. read more

Let me count the ways I love Deb's. A short list of... 1. I absolutely love how the line-up changes each week. And you post it - video and all. (Insert mouth watering) 2. That homemade Snickers it gets it's own spot. 3. I love that you offer some salty / savory items to balance out the sweetness. 4. Every single time I need to brighten someone's weekend or I have people visiting - you are my go-to. So thank you! 5. All the smiles and energy when you make it inside!! Get there a little early before the doors open and don't pay any mind to the line that stretches around the block. It's worth it. read more

This is the best bakery in the DMV. I have never gotten something I wasn't impressed with here. I don't know how the variety in menu continues to be evolving and delicious but that's the case here. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very kind. You leave with not only delicious food but a warm smile because of the genuine hospitality and enthusiasm of the people working there. The only negatives are the size of the store, the lack of a seating area, and its location. If you are looking for incredible cookies, cakes, pies, or anything baked and you are within a 2 hour drive (I've just stood in line with a couple who drove that far to get here) start heading over you won't be disappointed! read more

The best pastries you will ever have. Their croissant dough is off the charts and they feature a changing menu with both sweet and savory pastries. They also have biscuits, cookies, cake, and pies, but the real star of the show is all the pastries. Deb's is the kind of place you approach with suspicion. Could a little strip rambler looking building in the middle of a neighborhood be any good? YES!!! walk into Deb's and you know immediately you're in the presence of people who take pride in their craft. That first hit of warm, sweet air is narcotic. Butter and sugar whispering dirty things in your ear. The pastries? They're not just good. They're the kind of good that makes you stop mid-bite and reassess your life choices (should I sell my house and move closer). Flaky, tender, rich, like something smuggled in from a back-alley bakery in Paris, or a no-nonsense shop in downtown Manhattan. I've eaten my way through New York, and I'm telling you, Deb's can go toe-to-toe with any of them. Yeah, the prices have that Manhattan feel, which stings a little when you're not pulling a Manhattan paycheck!! But when the urge for a world-class pastry hits, get in the car and come here. One thing I'm asking Deb, open on Sundays. read more

Hands down the best bakery around! A tad on the pricier side but worth every penny! I got the German pie, peanut butter chocolate cookie, cinnamon roll, and black raspberry danish! My favorite was the German chocolate pie! It was massive... at first I thought it was small for 21 bucks but it took 5 of us to finish.... It was heffy and absolutely delicious! If you plan on making a trip make sure you get there as soon as they open! These incredible treats sell out quick and for very good reason! read more

Let me just say, it was pretty mind blowing trying their pastry! We loved that everything had generous amount of filling/ingredients. Every bite so satisfying. The workers there were so friendly! If you plan to go here, make sure to plan accordingly. By that I mean plan to wait about 10-15 mins and possibly even outside. We arrived maybe 10 minds after they opened and there was already a line ! Having tried some of their items I can see why! They have a select number of items and once they sell out of it, that's it. They don't offer an online menu as their menus changes daily but once you get ready to order, they definitely encourage you to take your time to look at the selection at the counter. They also offer great suggestions depending on if you're wanting something more savory or sweet. The place is small a does not offer any seating so don't plan to eat there. They also don't offer coffee or other beverages which was a bit of a downside since there was not really another coffee shop that was convenient nearby. The prices are on the higher end for baked goods so be prepared to spend a pretty penny. But I promise whatever you get, you will thoroughly enjoy it!! read more

If you're looking at the prices on the Saturday preorder menu and asking yourself, "I dunno, is this worth it?" The answer is yes. Whether you've got a sweet tooth or savory is more your speed, I'm pretty sure Deb's sells something that'll scratch your pastry itch. There are a few parking spots along the street if the small lot in front is full. The pickup instructions are available during checkout, but they've got a signboard out front with the instructions written on them in case you forgot to save the phone number to text. It took less than 10 minutes for the staff member to emerge with our order. Each item in the box was adorably swaddled in parchment paper, and was logistically plenty big enough to share between at least 2 people... depending on how much you love them. Here's what we got, in the ranking that I preferred them: Chorizo & Cheese Turnovers - great balance of protein and sesame seeded pastry. Pulled Pork & Mac Croissant - carbs in carbs! More flaky pastry with some nice texture on top! What's not to love. Blueberry Maple Buttermilk Biscuit - This was the biggest biscuit I've ever eaten in my life-- bigger than most newborns' heads. Good flavor and just the right amount of sweetness, kinda reminiscent of the top of a blueberry muffin but with a slightly more biscuit-y crumb and some caramelization on top. Mexican Street Corn Croissant - I wish this had been a little more herbaceous, but the flavor profile was clearly elote-inspired. Lemon Curd Cheese Brioche - the custard and lemon curd were delicious, but even though the former was very loose, I recommend cutting this in half before consuming so you can consume the bread with the filling in every bite. Otherwise the beginning bites of just brioche bordered on bland (possibly biased evaluation from eating the next item right before this one). Barbacoa Beef Hand Pie - great pastry work, but the meat was aggressively seasoned; the tiny condiment container of guacamole added a little relief from the saltiness, but the overall ratio still resulted in a net sodium bomb. Four and a half stars. It's kind of a relief that we don't live closer, otherwise we'd probably gain weight within a few weeks. We'll definitely be back to try their other baked goods. read more

Eclectic variety of baked treasures, all to fill the sweet or savory tooth. Love the food and service. Usually a line but moves quickly.

For those who do not know, I will drive for food. Deb's somehow popped up on my IG (my phone probably picked up that I was looking for Mother's day pastries to enjoy), and after seeing what they had to offer, I knew I had to stop by. Deb's is about 1.5 hours RT from where I'm at, but that didn't stop me from (over) ordering a variety of baked goods. Although Deb's has a storefront, they are currently taking pre-orders online only for pickup on Wednesday (menu posted on Mondays) and Saturday (menu posted on Wednesday evenings at 9pm) afternoons. So, if you plan to order make sure you check out the website as they do sell out on some items. Ordering online is super easy. I like how there are pictures for each item. Be warned that your cart will fill up fast as Deb's pastries all sound/look so good! Once you place your order, you will get an estimated pickup time (mine was ready at the time indicated). When your order is ready for pickup, you will get a text from Deb's. When you arrive/are parked, there's a number to text with your last name. Someone then comes out and leaves your baked goods on a red bench just outside the storefront. Super easy! I have to say that everything I ordered was so good. All the baked goods I tried were buttery, flaky, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. So good! Prices are reasonable, especially given the size of the items. Definitely big enough to share with 1-2 additional individuals, or keep all for yourself if you want to save a little for next. Although I really did enjoy everything I tried, my favorites had to be the Boston cream cruffin and ham/gouda morning buns. I didn't share these and enjoyed them over a couple days. Barbacoa Beef Hand Pie-Packed with shredded beef that tender and has a lot of flavor to it. You could tell their beef is slowly cooked! I like how it came with a side of fresh guacamole, which made this pie that much better Boston Cream Cruffin-Croissant and muffin hybrid stuffed with vanilla pastry cream and topped with some chocolate ganache. If you love a good Boston creme dessert, this one is a must Carrot Cake Twice Baked Croisssant-Although still good, probably my least favorite item that I tried. This croissant is filled with carrot cake filling (contains some carrot pieces!), is baked twice (extra crispy), and topped with cream cheese frosting and pecans Ham & Gouda Morning Buns-Brioche bun filled with a generous amount of ham and gouda Morning Bun-This bun is filled with cinnamon sugar and topped with more sugar. Perfect for breakfast with your coffee/tea/latte. Mini King Banana Biscoff Pie-If you enjoy a good banana cream pie everyone once in awhile like I do, definitely give this pie a try. It's creamy, filled with roasted bananas, Biscoff cookies, and cookie butter that's then topped with a toasted merengue layer and a Biscoff cookie Nutella Bear Claw-Got to try the last bite of this pastry since my 7yo literally devoured most of it. He said it was a little messy, but that was because it was super flaky! Again, this claw was filled with the right amount of Nutella. Not super sweet I seriously do not think you can go wrong with anything you order from Deb's. Everything is that good. If you are like me and plan to over order whenever you place an order, you can store Deb's baked goods in the fridge for a few days (bring to room temp before devouring) or freeze (wrap in parchment paper and foil) before reheating at 250-275 for a few minutes. read more

I drove over an hour to try out this bakery and it exceeded my expectations. Location is in a cute little historic town. I grabbed a bunch of items to try. My parents are a huge fan of sweet potato pie so I grabbed a whole for Thanksgiving. I'm a fan of pumpkin pie so I grabbed the Pumpkin Basque Cheesecake, that way everyone would try it and let me just tell you, they ate the whole thing that same day. It was their favorite! I'm a huge sucker for pop tarts so I grabbed the raspberry jammy hand pie, as you can see, it's BIG! The chocolate chip cookie shocked me because it had salt, never had a cookie with salt but it was the best thing I'd ever had. The flavors meshed so well. I will go back soon. read more

TLDR: Amazing small batch bakery offering both sweet and savory baked goodies. Come early or call ahead because very limited amounts of each pastry are made each day. Come for the quiches and savory croissants! Vibe: 3/5. Located on a small side street in the quaint town of Middletown, Deb's bakery is a pickup counter only bakery. The shop has a handful of parking spots in front as well as ample street parking nearby. The storefront is very small, so Deb's only allows 5 people at a time inside the building. The interior is very utilitarian by design. Baking sheet racks and ingredients overflow into the storefront area as well as call in orders line the adjacent wall shelving. Front and center in the shop is the display case which shows what's available for the day. Once you get to the front of the line, you can gaze over the bountiful array of baked goods before telling the staff what you want. It truly is the most visually striking piece of the bakery. Service: 5/5. Even with how busy the store was during our visit, the staff at Deb's did a great job at making sure every customer leaves with a smile on their face. We arrived at 9:45am on a Saturday (they open at 9:30am) and the line had already formed outside the store. Once in line, Deb's staff did a great job ushering new customers inside the bakery as others left. For orders placed in advance over the phone, the staff would bring the orders out to customers waiting in their cars up front so not to further congest the line. After 10-15 minutes of queuing, we made it to the front of the bakery counter to make our choices and what appeared to be the owner Deb was very helpful in making our choices. It was out first time, so she gave us some good recommendations based off of her favorites as well as what items typically sell out. Everything was then boxed up nice and neatly and we're given instructions for reheating and storing if not eaten immediately. All in all, stellar service from start to finish! Food: 5/5. Unbelievable pastries that rival some items I have had at posh NYC bakeries. It is incredibly hard to choose only a few items to try at Deb's, but we managed to settle on a Reuben crossoint, a bacon, egg and gruyere quiche and brown sugar banana Biscoff pastry. Each item was absolutely delicious in their own rights, but the quiche took best in show. We were told when ordering that it's one of the fastest selling items on their menu and we could definitely see why. The quiche stands around 2 inches in height and the size of a bar napkin. The quiche egg are incredibly fluffy (think French scrambled eggs fluffy) and perfectly balanced with the smokey/saltiness of the bacon. The gruyere rounds off the flavor profile with a nice creaminess that goes well with the hearty baked crust. The Reuben crossoint did not disappoint either. The light airy layers of the fresh baked crossoint was the perfect vehicle for the rich and hearty swiss and pastrami. Finally, the sweet brown sugar banana Biscoff was the epitomy of decadence. The over ripe bananas, similar to what you find in banana cream pie, brought serious flavor to the whippy toasted meringue topping and flaky crust. Like the quiche, our serving towered in at 2 inches in height and the size of a bar napkin. Overall, we loved everything we tried at Deb's. With each item ringing in at around $15, on paper this would be considered a pricey splurge. However, when you see how generous the portions are, you will be quick to spend a cool $50+ on some of the best baked goods on this side of the Mason Dixon. read more

I had a coworker recommend this place to me time and time again. Before COVID-19, I was so far away that I didn't quite have the dedication to wake up at an ungodly hour to make the journey. In fear I may not get what I made the homage for. In light of this crisis, Deb's has gone to pre order and it has been a blessing for someone looking for certainty that they'll get THE GOODS after an hour rice. I was late to the pre order by nearly a full day but still managed to give a few things a try! I ordered a traditional croissant, the shrimp & grits croissant, and the dark cherry cruffin. Gosh... Everything was DELICIOUS. My boyfriend was hesitant about the shrimp and grits but absolutely loved it, as did I! The different textures along with the flavors, wow! I can't wait to get another! The traditional croissant is undoubtedly the best I've ever had. Perfectly crisp, make a mess in your car, crunch a croissant SHOULD have. And finally, the cruffin. If left to my own devices I could've eaten it all, in one sitting, totally by myself. But I didn't! And to think I was initially saddened by not getting the other flavor. Currently Deb's offers online pre order. You text when you arrive and someone will bring your order out on a baking tray and place it on the bench outside! I highly recommend following their IG because they've been incredibly transparent and share any update, including technological mishaps, so you always know what's going on day-to-day. I will be in my a-game next pre order!!! read more

The pastries and baked goods at Deb's are amazing. We love ordering online and doing curbside pick up these past two Saturdays. We have tried several different treats so far. We enjoy the flakiness of the croissants and crust on the pies. Every treat is baked into perfection and a lot of thought goes into each baked good. This place is definitely a local gem and my mouth waters just thinking of their baked goodies. So far we love the peach & cream brioche, classic chocolate croissant, the quiche Lorraine, the twice baked Samoa, ham & cheese baked bun, the prosciutto and cheese croissant. We definitely love trying and finding our favorite treats each week. We can't wait to go back and try other items of their menu.
