Stopped by late afternoon after a sweet AT hike. Was excited to see breakfast served all day. Scan the QR code to read the menu, points off here. Wait staff was very attentive, and you get a front row seat to their cooking. Delicious grilled veggies blended over hash browns with bacon and cheddar cheese with a bit of jalapeño heat. A young family came in behind me and was served just as quickly with their two little ones. Will return to try a milkshake and burger. Basic diner food in a classic 50's style atmosphere. Friendly servers. Clean restrooms! The food is above average (kinda hard to ruin eggs, right? Lol). For breakfasts, their skillets are popular and very filling. The omelets are my favorites. What I like is that you can choose toast, a pakcake, or a waffle to go along. Their waffles are very good! For lunches their meatloaf is a comfort food classic. Very good with a tasty gravy if you'd like. I really like their hamburgers because the patties are fresh, not frozen. I can choose tater tots or fries (tots are my preference). The dinner is open 24 hours for you late nighters. The diner serves as the front desk for the Travelodge hotel nearby. I've been here five times over the course of about eight months. The first time we went for lunch and everything was excellent! The next time we did breakfast and took home some cinnamon rolls. Again, wonderful! The third time we did evening dinner meals and the food just wasn't to our taste. I won't knock what we got, because it was cooked well and the seasoning wasn't what we prefer. But I noticed there were a handful of employees the first two times and now the cook was covering double duty as well as the guy in back running ragged. My last two visits, the workers were struggling to do multiple jobs. It showed in both food and service. The atmosphere was hectic, the server was too overwhelmed to handle salad prep while taking orders and serving and acting as cashier. The cook was covering a dozen orders as well as takeout by herself. So things were sitting because one person can't prep, cook, gather from the back room, and plate all by herself. For me, it means I will still stop in on my way to work in hopes that they will staff it better because they have great employees. But I think travelers coming from the attached motel are getting screwed thinking they will get a good meal with their stay. read more

Meatloaf fairly good, side salad okay, but mashed potatoes tasted like thin instant potatoes made with water and nothing else. Turkey was dry and unappetizing. Food served barely warm. Horrible experience and would never recommend. We walk in and we're greeted by a very nice lady who told us to seat ourselves. We walk to the back and sit. It was six of us plus my 7 month old who we sat on the floor , sleeping in his car seat. A lady came over very rude and said how many... I said just and before I could finish saying six she very rudely interrupted and said it's not just and walked away... keep in mind as she's coming over to talk to us she's wiping her snot off her nose right before talking to us.. she comes back and says there are other tables down there so I ask is it not okay to sit where we were ( we all fit just comfortably and were told To seat ourselves..) .. she then starts yelling with the worst attitude for no reason. We say okay we are just going to leave and she screams get out. We have never been treated so poorly for no reason. We felt as if she just didn't want to serve a party of 6. I'm honestly glad we left because the floor was absolutely disgusting with dirt, stickiness and dead bugs. The fact that she was so disrespectful and freaked my 6 and 7 year old out is crazy. Seems like that server or whoever she was needs to be fired or go to a class to learn how to treat people. read more

I had not been to "Penny's Diner" (Brunswick) in a couple of years and was in the mood for a chicken fried steak. -- I was dumbfounded when they refused to give me a menu saying that instead, I had to go through some kind of BS with a QR code with my phone. I told them I just wanted to see a menu and not play any video games. They still flatly refused to show me a menu, so I left in disgust and will never go again. - I'm not sure that any restaurant or diner that flatly refuses to provide customers with a menu even deserves to be in business. read more

Conveniently located next to Weverton Cliffs and open 24/7 so one of the few spots open after a sunrise hike. Place was relatively empty early on a Friday so service was quick and the food was great, especially for the price. Solid amount of meat and beans in the chili and a lot of meat in the scramble. But I just decided not to eat them because they seemed to be old in the under done state. They handed my son a black banana and said they keep them in the fridge. Pretty sure the bread was stale too. Pros: The hostess up front was kind and sweet, and she had sort of an Avril Lavigne thing going. She was great and was the highlight of the visit. Cons: Pretty much everything else. They have a huge Waffle House style grill, but I don't know what it's there for because everything we got tonight was served out of the microwave. Even though it WAS straight from the microwave, absolutely everything from the meatloaf (which was in a pile like dog food, not in any recognizable loaf or baked shape) to the mashed potatoes to the cinnamon rolls were served ice cold. I mean, the gravy was stuck together in cold glops. Glops. Three bites into it, and I was done. It may have been the dog food-style meatloaf, or the chilled gravy, or maybe the way it all smelled vaguely of dishwater, but it was an absolute no. The biscuits and gravy were served the same way--microwave to table--and that dish was also ice cold. The cinnamon roll wasn't terrible. It was also cold with ICE code frosting on top, but the flavor was decent. The whole thing was undercooked though, but I kind of like my baked goods doughy, so fine. When the cook put the meatloaf on the table, she almost threw the plate from her side of the separation wall between the tables and the galley with the ceremony of a Shawshank prison guard serving a con that annoyed him that week. In a strange twist, the front counter of the diner is also the check-in location for the attached hotel. Neither this way or that, but it was something of note. Fortunately, I have no reason or need to return, but damn. A classic style diner deserves more love from its staff than this place receives. read more

Ducked into this place due to the good food and friendly staff reviews my daughter found. She had a waffle craving. We found it by GPS, and went in wearing masks, as I'm immune compromised. The gal who greeted us barked "you NEED your phone!". I turned to see who she was speaking to. There wasn't anyone behind us. There was one table seated, middle of the day, so ok. I asked to see a menu to order carryout. She explained that they don't have menus, and repeated to get my phone out, holding up a QR code. Me- errr, I don't know how to do that, is there a board somewhere with the menu? Just get my phone out and take a picture. I don't think my phone does this. How do older people or those without phones order? (I am older). Her -we tell them the menu, so what do you want? Me- I give up, we're leaving. Maybe she had something horrible happen to her that day, or I reminded her of someone she doesn't care for, but what restaurant has staff who speak to people that way, and why not have at least one menu for the tech challenged and seniors? We go to that town weekly for appointments, but will avoid this place. I had such high hopes. read more

Open 24 hours? This place is a Real Diner and has the looks of a vintage diner from the exterior as well. Two of us stopped here for dinner and were not disappointed. The server was kind and unobtrusive. We both ordered breakfasts and had the pleasure of watching the cook very ably cook up two meals at a time. From the bacon, to the eggs, to the pancake, and hashbrowns, everything was cooked to perfection and quite delicious. This double breakfast dinner cost about $20 before tip, definitely worth every penny. Bonus: The restroom was clean. Yay! read more

By far the worst restaurant experience EVER! Nothing against the service but the food was something that appeared to have been cooked by someone that has never stepped foot in a kitchen. Bacon was charred. Eggs were dry and had the black charred pieces stuck from the bacon and other stuff off the griddle. Pancakes looked like they were precooked and dropped on the floor before someone walked over them. I can sum up my experience in 1 word "YUCK". Cute, bright and super-clean 24 hr diner slightly off the beaten path. Very retro decor that is just adorable! Server was fabulous and the chef did it all up just right! Food was cooked perfectly to order and the coffee was fresh, hot, and strong. Just-popped-out-of-the-oven huge cinnamon bun was scrumptious!
