Absolutely wonderful experience! Stopped by with a neighbor today and we were blown away by the beauty of this cafe. It truly is so unique and has SO much to offer. I had a raspberry latte and cinnamon roll with homemade glaze. YUM! My friend had an iced pumpkin chai and breakfast sandwich on a croissant. The staff members were delightful and even offered help carrying our breakfast upstairs. We were able to snag parking right out front. I Definitely will be returning soon !

Stopped in @ Beans in the Belfry for the first time for some much needed caffeine! As many others have articulated, the business is in an old church building - and much of the architectural elements have been retained - which gives the place a super awesome ambiance! The stained glass windows are gorgeous! I wanted a cold brew - but they don't offer that. I was offered an iced coffee in its place - which the young lady at the register tried to tell me was essentially the same thing - it's not - and those who know - know. But I wasn't going to argue with her. Instead I ordered a triple shot breve Cappuccino - which was well executed. They also offer some breakfast items, as well as sandwiches and other fare. There is tons of seating inside - as well as a few tables outside on the front sidewalk. Paid with Apple Pay. Service was good! #BeansInTheBelfry

Really fun spot for a cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat. We all ordered a different variety of breakfast and they all were great. We were big fans of the biscuits and gravy. Our drinks were good and the atmosphere of the place was helpful.

What a gorgeous venue! I loved his the turned an old church into a coffee shop. The styling was eclectic and homey. The stained glass windows were amazing (some needing repair with peeling color). The windows each say "in memory of [insert name]" and there's a QR code available to learn about the person mentioned. The top alcove is usually available for customers but had been reserved today so we sat at a corner table. The music occasionally turned off but I actually really liked the silence, with the lofted ceilings it didn't get loud. We loved that the paninis came with pickles. What we got: Muffin - 3* nothing special here. Tasted like a regular store bought muffin. Chocolate and strawberry milkshake - 3* these aren't thick milkshakes but they are refreshing. I believe flavors are from pumped syrups. Old Berlin panini - 5* yum yum yum! Quite filling and delicious. Had to get a to go container to take the rest home. Tuscan panini - 5* fresh ingredients and refreshing taste. Good mixture of crunch and soft. Exactly what I'm looking for in a panini. - says the partner

What a beautiful and relaxing place. Came here the week after Christmas. Ordered cafe late and Tuscan panini. And the smoked turkey. Both were delicious. The inside is colorful and spacious with plenty of seating. I also bought some coffee grinds and they grind them for free for you. The cafe was delicious! I am lactose but I requested it the normal way with whole milk. It didn't bother me one bit. The cheese in both paninis were melted to perfection and the bread was toasted just right. I will return and really enjoyed the ambiance, food and music. By the way, when can you go to church and hear Madonna playing on the speakers. lol it made me laugh but that's just what makes this place unique and fun. Parking was a little rough. It is paid metered on street but it was busy when I went so had to go up and down street to find a spot. They offer live bands and alcohol too I imagine after lunch and on weekends. I will definitely be back!

The breakfast sandwich was definitely a generous portion. The eggs, bacon and cheese weee delicious. Also the croissant was crunch and warm. The chai latte was also delicious. The staff is extremely welcoming and patient. Even though I don't have any dietary restrictions, I appreciated the staff explaining the options for drinks. You are welcome to join tables with others. And don't miss the tables on the second floor. It provides the most amazing views.

This place is cool. Set in an old 1910 church building with plenty of seating (even in the upstairs balcony). The coffee and smoothies are great. The coffee is organic and fair trade. If you want a unique experience, this is worth a stop.

It was my first time trying this local coffee spot. I have been living in Brunswick for about 3 years now, and I've been wanting to try it for a while. I met one of my favorite professors here for breakfast and we loved the atmosphere. She had the quiche and it came with a salad. Although, she liked it she did mention that vinegar in the dressing was a little bit heavy or too much for her liking, and she felt the salad/lettuce could have been "crispier." She also had a tea. I had the Breakfast Croissant sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese. I should have asked for grape jelly. It was good without it though. I also had a Cafe Au Lait. It was good. The service was ok. The staff were friendly. I think for me, I really just enjoyed the atmosphere. I love old structures, and I love how the owners converted this old church into a local gem in the heart of downtown. I'm a writer as well, and I would love to come back and chill on the couch and write on one of my writing days. Also, I loved the music playlist. It was "Railroad Days" so it was such a pleasure dropping in today and then strolling through the streets and checking out the crafts made by local artisans! I would definitely recommend checking this cafe out if you're ever in the area.

I stopped in at Beans in the Belfry when I was in Brunswick for a couple of weeks ago. I was charmed. The coffeeshop and cafe (I only had coffee, but they definitely have lots of food, and most people there when I was - around lunchtime - were eating food as well as enjoying a beverage) is housed inside a former red-brick church built in 1910. Tall ceilings, stained glass, great architecture. It's a really charming place. I had a very good americano and just enjoyed the atmosphere while I did some work on my laptop. (It can get a little loud, so definitely bring some headphones if you're going to be doing some work.) And wow - so thoughtful - the cafe has a sign on the front door letting people know that parking on the street is metered and reminding you to pay for your parking. I hadn't noticed any meters or signs and was about to take a risk of getting towed or getting a ticket. But then I saw their sign and paid using the app (it's very affordable). It was a great place to do some work while I was in Brunswick. I'd love to return.

This place is sooooo cool. I love history and I believe this church is almost 115 years old. It has a warm and cozy vibe with its own coffee shop uniqueness. They have vintage decor and have kept intact a lot of the old church. The gallery overlooking the shop is a great view, definitely check it out if you go. Stained glass windows were so cool too. I had a macadamia nut latte that warmed my soul and I chowed down on a nova lox bagel. Next time I'll try a panini because they looked mouthwatering. The nice lady at the front was friendly and recommended us some items to try. They even have alcohol. I was told they have different events there , so I can't wait to come back for a comedy night or a band. Parking was a little rough, but I found a side street available. Cant wait to go back!

We had BLT, latte, Yerbe Mate in a can, and a lox bagel. My friends ordered cheese sandwiches and said they could have been better. The atmosphere was really relaxing and cozy. Service was good! I would recommend it!

A historical landmark. A from-church-to-coffee-shop kind of establishment, they have plenty of baked goods, food items, and memorabilia. I overheard someone in another coffee shop discussing that this place doesn't have much going for it except for the mosaic windows, but I respectfully disagree. They have good standard coffee that matches the quality of other coffee shops in the area and it has established itself in the community roots. Their macadamia nut latte was pretty sweet especially towards the bottom where the flavoring had settled. Very nice worker at the front and it made for a lovely morning stop.

This place was so cool and unique! We stopped here on our way home from visiting the vineyards in Virginia. It is the coolest little coffee shop. From eclectic gifts to fun pastries, there are so many things this place has to offer. The coffee was just OK, but I didn't even care because everything else was so amazing. The building is gorgeous inside- the stained glass windows are stunning. Oh! And I loved the oatmeal I got,. I'd come back again. And again.

For lunches their meatloaf is a comfort food classic. Very good with a tasty gravy if you'd like. I really like their hamburgers because the patties are fresh, not frozen. My impression of the menu is that it's kind of a Middle Eastern, Mexican, American, everything place. I opted for the chips instead of the french fries to cut some calories Feels very much like an old school neighborhood pub. Looking around, and taking the fact that it's a very small town, I can see this being a social focal point for the area. A nice full bar. There wasn't anything to dislike about it, nice people, nice food, warm, and comfortable, easy five stars. BUT. The one thing that pushed it way over the top was that instead of standing there, awkwardly intimidating, with the card machine in their hand waiting for me to pay, THEY LEFT IT ON THE TABLE AND WALKED AWAY! If you're looking for a place that is loud, with well intentioned but unskilled teenage servers serving hit or miss food at top dollar- this is exactly the place for you. If you want an environment that cares more about selling large quantities of alcohol to already intoxicated people, you've also found the place. The prime rib couldn't have been worse if they tried. It tasted like it had been bathed in liquid smoke and salt water. The meat was over cooked for the medium I ordered and it had the consistency of a cheap sirloin that can only be achieved when you don't take the time to cook it correctly. The au jus was too salty and Smokey to use- literally like a 50/50 mix liquid smoke and saltwater. The baked potato was ok on the inside but the skin and about 1/2" of the outer portions were tough as shoe leather. I don't know how that's even possible. Drink refills were few and far between. The servers are all great kids from the local high school who try hard, but the only reason they got a tip was because they are local kids that my kids know- not because the service was great. Let's talk about the noise for a minute. That place has tables crammed into every inch of that musky smelling old home. When you add in drink servers who are motivated by money and enabled by a lack of leadership- you get a bunch of loud drunks. Throw in live music and you're guaranteed to have a place so loud you can't hear anyone at your table trying to talk. The banana pudding used to be our favorite so we ordered two to go, we ended up throwing one away and the other was left half eaten. It tastes like store bought pudding with cheap whipped topping- nothing else. We have a three strikes rule and this was strike #3, definitely not coming back here. If you want quality food for the masses, Andy's down the street has great pizza for a fraction of the price of this place. Daughter Thai across the street is about the same price point as 1836, but offers consistent quality in their food with an atmosphere perfect for a family dinner. If you're looking for overpriced bar food and a place that doesn't care how many drinks you've had- I think this is the perfect place for you and your fraternity brothers. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer is good and their schnitzel platter is great, just avoid the steaks, prime rib, drinks that need refills, anything with fries and you're fine. This is our third attempt in three years and we are done. Which is sad because there aren't many options in town. Deep breath in...Unless you count the time when they closed for the night unexpectedly and we ordered them via their website because they forgot to turn off their system so they charged us and it took an hour before their system realized nothing was happening and we had to wait almost a week for them to refund the money but the owner emailed it was coming and didn't apologize or explain why they left their orders on when they closed because he really didn't seem to care about it....inhales deeply to catch breath...then this was trip #4. Either way, this place is scratched off the list unless we are looking for a bar with loose moral standards and not food.

We hadn't ate much all day so we decided to get something light to eat. My girlfriend walked up to the counter and ordered us a hot dog and Brie with Jam and Pita. The hot dog was decent but the Brie and chips were disgusting to say the least. The price for the Brie was even more disgusting than it tasted for a very small wheel of store bought stale tasting cheese and even staler chips, yikes! I love the building, its history, the whole layout, and vibes of this brewery, but I'd never order food from here again. EVER! Will I come back to have more beers the next time I am in the area, probably but I won't go out of my way, that's for sure.
