"Good beer, great atmosphere, but horrible and overpriced food." Me and my bestie aka my girlfriend love to travel and we often will stay in a cool town that has several breweries all around it and this place happens to be one that we stopped in while having a mini getaway together. I've been to Brunswick several times in my life and I've always loved the town so I was excited to see someone put a brewery in since the last time I had been there. We stopped in on an early Saturday evening and it was pretty busy because they had live music which was good. We walked right up to the counter and I ordered: - ROYGBIV Power Sour 5/5 - Bar Room Hero Hazy IPA 5/5 We then proceeded to grab a table outside and enjoy our beers while listening to the music and watching all the people enjoy themselves too while we laughed and had good conversation. We hadn't ate much all day so we decided to get something light to eat. My girlfriend walked up to the counter and ordered us a hot dog and Brie with Jam and Pita. The hot dog was decent but the Brie and chips were disgusting to say the least. The price for the Brie was even more disgusting than it tasted for a very small wheel of store bought stale tasting cheese and even staler chips, yikes! I love the building, its history, the whole layout, and vibes of this brewery, but I'd never order food from here again. EVER! Will I come back to have more beers the next time I am in the area, probably but I won't go out of my way, that's for sure. read more

A lesson in giving second chances. The first time we went here (many years ago) they were out of several of their beers and we were disappointed. Fast forward to now and things are much better running. Beer wise there are options for everyone. I'm a big fan of the following: 1. Gandy Oatmeal Stout 6.1% ABV. Strong but not overpowering coffee and chocolate aromas and flavors. This is smooth and super tasty. 2. "Midnight Slug" Extra Special Bitter 5.8% ABV. An old school style not found much anymore. Nice malty flavor up front and bitter on the finish. 3. Maryland Rye Maryland Rye IPA 6.7% ABV. Spicy black pepper notes from the rye make this IPA special. Vibe: blue collar town bar like. They have food that looked and smelled good but we just had lunch and focused on the beer only. Service was great. read more

Really cool venue with a number of interesting beers and some more interesting pickle based foods. Nice outdoor seating area with some comfortable couches good for a large group and a dog or two. There was not entertainment when we dropped in but there is a nice stage setup as well for live music, I presume. read more

We've tried Smoketown beer at various beer festivals, and have never been overly impressed, keeping us from a specific brewery visit; but while on a 'beer trail' in Fredrick, we decided to check them out, seeing if 'on tap' draft made a difference. Overall, yes & no- we ordered two flights ($9.50 for Track 1 & Track 2 beers) (but also upcharged to add a few of the Track 3 IPAs ($2 per upgrade) The bartenders were quite friendly, allowing me to take a few sample sips to determine if some brews were worth me upgrading- The place wasn't overly packed, there isn't too much seating variety, but they offer a number of inside or outside patio options- serving food on-sight they don't allow byof, but were nice enough to allow our 2yr old daughter to eat the lunch she packed herself without 'kicking her out' haha Easy ample street parking, though there is also a parking lot located within a 1-2min walk, so parking isn't a hassle As for my 'on tap' yes & no response- we were quite impressed by a few of their IPAs- crispy, juicy, bold hop flavors- we ended up buying a 4pack of Patsy for home- though their black IPA, stouts, and paler IPAs had the same flat taste we were familiar with from beer festivals- I always thought maybe the beer just didn't travel well, or since it had been a long hot day outside the flavor was impacted, but the fresh pour from the brewery confirmed, nah that's just the flavor profile- I'd say overall out of the 8 beers we sampled, 4 were super impressive 3+stars, but the other 4 landed low on the rating scale- a so-so visit. Probably wouldn't visit the brewery again, but would buy Patsy if we see it in a beer store. read more

Stopped by today for the first time w the wife. Walked in to a staff playing on their phones and no greeting. No recommendations, etc. ordered a couple of beers which were solid....and some food. Nobody gave a shout out when food was ready and of course was cold by the time we picked up. We're local and love to support small businesses. Stopped in today with my girlfriend while on a road trip to Harpers Ferry/Gettysburg. We got there right at opening so we were the only ones there for awhile. We each ordered two different flights so eight beers total. Excellent quantity and variety, but honestly nothing really stuck out that much to us. It was all good but nothing really to rave about. I will say it was nice to see a few beers on nitro which is rare in my experience. Nice amount of seating in the tasting room but a little dark and gloomy with the dark tables and ceilings. The bartender seemed super indifferent to us. Definitely not the talkative type. If we were local I'm sure we'd come more often but we live about three hours away. If we lived closer I'm sure we would come back but overall it's not a place I would go out of my way to return to. read more

We came to Smoketown Brewing with our River Trails kayak group. A flight was included in our tour cost for Boats and Brews. My favorite beer was the seasonal pumpkin ale. I also liked the berry sour. We sat at a picnic table in the shade outside since it was a nice day. The inside of the brewery has a cool atmosphere. I recommend checking out this brewery. read more

While in the area, we decided to stop in for a drink and quick lunch. The place is very visible as you cross the bridge from VA. Not sure what it used to be, guessing some kind of firehouse, factory or warehouse. They have kept that industrial vibe inside. You order at the counter/ bar area in the back, then pick up the food via a buzzer once ready. I had the vanilla porter which was actually a pretty good drink- not overly sweet or bitter. The food was ok but nothing special- I had the triple cheese and bacon panini which was really just a small grilled cheese with a couple slices of bacon. This place was fine for what it is and we may go back again to try some of the other brews. read more

Smoketown Brewing Station is the type of brewery for me! Not sure if it is always like this but when I came to visit they had tons of ciders and stouts! And overall a lot of selection for being a microbrewery! It is quite a cool place since it is built in an old fire house station. I noticed the railing around the building was built with the fire hoses and the tables were built from wooden doors and barrels. I thought it was interesting to see people biking around the area stop here along their route. Another thing that was cool about this place is they have a coffee colab beer. It is called the Main Cup because that is the name of the Middletown's coffee shop. It is a bit pricey but the beer is delicious and worth it! read more

I give smoketown brewing 4.1/5 stars. I stopped here in the afternoon around 3pm when they open during the week. It was very calm and easy going at that time. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We enjoyed some delicious sours. The lunch pail was a particular favorite. Tart flavors and notes of cherry really hit home with this one. People have said this place fills up quickly as the evening goes on but it was nice and empty on the afternoon. read more

My bestie and I had the light Rail lager (nice, light, no bite on the back end) and her wife likes IPAs so she liked the Smokehouse black, she liked the Patsy Cline too. Rated as the #2 best breweries in Frederick, we decided to make the trek out to good ol Brunswick to see what the hype was all about! I am so thankful we did! This place should easily be #1. We had a fantastic experience from the minute we pulled up. The old firehouse is filled with history and stories that keep you wanting to know more. The owners took their time to tell us all about the ghost and how the building was used in the past. On to the good stuff: the beer! The beer was delicious! We tried a few flights served in antique Tonka fire trucks-so cool! We all liked every one of them. We went on a mini tour and learned how the breweries started and how the beer is developed. I highly recommend coming to this unique brewery. You will not be disappointed! Bonus: Although they have some bar food, you are allowed to bring in whatever you'd like! read more

We finished our recent Sunday craft beer expedition with a trip to Smoketown Brewing Station. There was a decent number of customers on hand the day we visited. We sat at the bar. They have a pretty good number of beers to taste - so we each did two flights of Ales - and still we did not taste them all. Somehow, I deleted the tasting notes I made during the visit - I'll have to go back to Untappd and find my ratings - as I did post all of the beers I tasted that day in the Untappd app. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here! They also serve food - but we did not order any during this visit. Parking is a bit of a challenge - we did not see a parking lot. Neat place! It was wide, spacious and plenty of seating. Upon arrival, I went to the bar and they have options for a flight of beers or glass. Some beers come only in cans and they'll note that on the menu and their menu board. I tried their Berlin Brown Ale and it was smooth and not too hoppy. They also have food options like charcuterie boards, hummus, etc. Their beer names were fun to read like "It's for my wife" milkshake! They had large high top tables enough for 6 or more people. read more

What a find! Smoketown popped up in the online search for "brewery not located in a parking lot" after a friend got all fussy about "scenic locations"...in February - peak scenic time of the year? I digress. Located on a hill overlooking the Potomac and industrial train tracks, Smoketown serves up a good variety of well-executed beers that will appeal to a wide audience. I committed early on to the oatmeal stout, which I absolutely loved; it had the perfect level of sweetness and a lovely, deep, chocolaty flavor. I also stole sips of the oyster stout, which has more coffee-like undertones, and the cream ale, which was really light and refreshing with a hint of sweetness. After a few minutes, we all noticed that we were burning through our pints - they were dangerously drinkable! Food-wise, there's a food truck out front with BBQ options - I highly recommend the pulled pork fries - and bar bites indoors. One member of our party is a dairy-free vegetarian, and unfortunately, the bar was out of the plain pretzel, which was the only substantial food item that he could eat, but at least they had chips and salsa, which was very generously portioned. Service was friendly and fairly organized, and they were nice enough to give us another pretzel when we accidentally dropped ours on the floor before we even got to take a bite! Seating could be improved - all the options in the main room are four-person tables, which led to a lot of unoccupied chairs since most parties that day were couples. A mix of communal seating and two-person high tops could make the experience more comfortable for more people. I'd love to come back out here again, especially when the weather gets warmer - there's huge garage doors in the front and it would be cool to sit there if they open them up on a sunny day! read more

Went on a Thursday night 9/3/20. Bartenders on staff were rude. First they carded my work buddy but not me. That's bartending 101 to card all parties- although yes I'm older, it's awkward. Then the male bartender on staff starts panicking about us taking off our masks to try samples, asking us to step back in a dictatorial tone. Then they kept hovering around the tables making sure no one was going to steal the glasses. When we came back in, after ordering 4 beers between us and getting ready to have one more round, the female bartender says "you've tried enough samples tonight." What?! He tried like 2 and his tab had to have been at 50-60 dollars. However just as much of an issue is that the beer wasn't that good. Very average and not cold enough. We will not be back. Really more like a 3.5 but it's so hit or miss with the beers that it has to be a 3 star spot. Sometimes the beers are all amazing, other times there are maybe 4 that are worth the visit. Impressed with the consistent range of offerings, but they don't always live up to the style. Chill spot for after a hike, bike ride, or spot to swing by for a beer. Had a great time here after canoeing with friends nearby. Ordered 2 flights for myself each, with different drinks. My favorites will always be ciders, but I was pleasantly surprised with all the variety of beer they had here. They also had a very good selection of snacks and each of them were delicious. We came across this place on the way back to DC from Harpers Ferry. We had some time to kill and figured we would stop by for a little bit. Like t most breweries we got a flight so we could try a few. The flight comes with 4 beers. They had a pretty decent selection on draft but I wasn't a huge fan of any of them. The one I liked the best was the Wick'd Threesome Belgian Tripel. The staff was very friendly and the place itself was cool because it used to be an old Firehouse. It was nice to be able to sit outside and see the canal while sampling the beers. Not sure I'll be back this way but it was worth the stop. read more

Good selection and good beer. Food menu is weak, but there are good options for sandwiches or pizza within walking distance. I had the brown ale and it was smooth and malty as a brown ale should be. Lots of outdoor and indoor/outdoor seating. They have a few ciders, which is interesting, but I'll save those for another visit. One thing, the music was good, but they switched to an 80s station, which I didn't appreciate. Prolly catering to the older crowd on a sunny Sunday afternoon, but still, please make it interesting. Dave, the owner of this fine establishment, was so nice and engaging as he took us on several tours and shared the history of the brewery and his vision for the future. From what we learned, the future for this brewery looks very bright. Oh and by the way, the beer itself is fantastic, had a flight with IPA, Hefe, Pumpkin, and Stout and really enjoyed each and every one of them. I am going to tell everyone about the experience and why they should hit up this hidden diamond in the heart of Brunswick. Frederick is filled with awesome breweries now-a-days, but Smoketown should be at the very top of the list as far as experience, quality and atmosphere. Just all around greatness! read more

We enjoyed sitting outside in a nice little seating area shaded from the sun and roped off with old fire hoses (corn hole is available if you're interested). There was a dog bowl of water available as well, which was a huge bonus - love it when places are laid back and pet friendly. I went to high school here in Brunswick, and moved to Berlin MD last year. When I came back for a visit, I noticed Smoketown Brewing Station, and just had to try their brews and check out the interior. I understand they are working on opening the 2nd floor sometime in the near future. The interior setup is really welcoming, and I could imagine hanging out here for awhile with some friends. I tried a flight of Potomac, Imposter, Fight Club, and Merry Peep. I loved the Potomac, Merry Peep, and Fight Club the best. Oh, the bartender just gave me a complimentary 5th sample, the Light Rail! The Imposter and Light Rail are quite good as well. I think I'll get a crowler to go. Next time I'll try their food offerings. I do think $14.95 for a 32oz crowler is way too much. I did purchase the Wick'd threesome crowler and took it home. I believe it's 8.4%, and it is smooth, with a light spice finish, and has a lower IBU, in the 20's, I believe. They also have activities for patrons to participate in. They were setting up for trivia night as I was leaving. I would return again. read more
