A decent restaurant with good food and a nice staff but slow service…read moreThis restaurant is easy to find in Harpers Ferry as it is right across from the train station on the lower road. It has a laid-back feel and an open door. The restaurant has two floors with self-seating, and we chose a table on the lower level. It was cool inside, though the doors were open to the outside, which added to the casual atmosphere. There only seemed to be one waitress handling all the tables, and while she worked hard and did a great job, the service was understandably slow and the tables were not cleaned very quickly once people left. One thing that stood out to me was how pet-friendly the place is--there was even a dog at a table on the porch. The menu offers classic American fare, like sandwiches and burgers. I had a BLT with fries, and both were very good. They were fresh, well-made, and satisfying. The prices were reasonable with most entrees being between $14 and $20 and my BLT was $12 . It's not fast service, but if you have a little time and want a relaxed, friendly environment, Almost Heaven is a nice choice for a meal in Harpers Ferry.

The only thing saving this review from this experience is the setting, ambiance, view, and…read morelocation. This place is right on the property for an outdoor adventure park that does tubing in the winter and river tubing/ ropes courses/camp in the summer. Being in Harper's ferry and given the neighboring business this is a captive audience gold mine for a restaurant. Sadly, we came here on a Saturday and it was PAINFULLY obvious their service capabilities could not match the customer demand signal. We started at 4PM and they were about at 50% capacity (generously). You order your own food at the bar or via QR code. This is a standard practice so nothing wrong there, but it did take us about 10 minutes to then get our drinks. The food came out within 15 minutes. Food was descent if not a little on the expensive side. Beer was fairly priced. They don't have a super large menu and they were out of a handful of things. Like for one, being out of iced tea seemed like an easy fix from my perspective working in bar/restaurant management in the past. We went and enjoyed the Christmas lights and then went back in around 615PM for a nightcap. This is where things went off the rails. The inside was full the outter tables were 40-50% taken. Overall I would say 80% of a jam packed house. We ordered 2 Irish coffees and a beer. 25 minutes later I went in to check on our drinks and the patrons faces inside said it all. The couple at the bar had been waiting 30 minutes to pay their bill, one lady got up and left because people had come in after her, ordered the same thing, eaten, paid, and left before she got her food. They hadn't even started our drinks and when I went to the bathroom I could see the kitchen order display and half their tickets were lagging, badly. From what I could tell they had 3 people tending bar/running food plus other food runners. I don't know what the kitchen staffing was. This place should be KILLING it with how they are set up location/clientele wise but I can say for certain they will take a hit on return business tonight. This place has great potential and I hope for the owner's sake this was an off night. As a bartender/bar manager watching personnel work tempo, efficiency, etc... I was screaming inside.

The service here is good, your sit yourself order from the QR code and the bartender will deliver…read moreyour food. The wait wasn't long, as for the ambiance it's a lodge style with bar food. But Normandy lodge with the bear head carpet. Overall the food..for bar food it was a disappointment. Not bad but just not good. The wings okay, the blue cheese weak, the fires pass the test but barely. You can drive about 5-10 minutes and get better options and see some of the historic sites in the area. That's what I recommend. Now I wouldn't say pass them by, just don't expect a top 10 meal from Alstadts, they will fill you up and that is all.

The apple chestnut soup is so creamy and sweet. Really good as a start. The bread came out cold,…read morebut it was fluffy had a bouncy gluten texture. The white bean soup came with white bean fritters, which were crunchy but with a lentil-like texture on the inside. The waiters came and poured the soup directly with the minced vegetables. The halibut was cooked well and tasted great but the real star was the andouille sausage and shrimp jambalaya--excellently seasoned. The creamy sauce on top of the rice made every bite feel fulfilling. The added microgreens added a freshness and crunch to the meal. The menu is expertly chosen and the meals are balanced and flavorful, and they vary often. Their website is not always up to date and depends on what is in season. My only gripe is that the portions are small for the price, but it's worth it!

They source everything locally, even their own home grown vegetables, etc. Jason, the chef, is an artist with every item on the menu. Appetizers are incredible. Try their pâté! We always pair our dishes with their recommendations for wines and it's on point. Main dishes are to die for. Their sauces, the combination of flavors, presentation, the "extra" in every dish and bite is so good. They will accommodate you and change sauces to dairy free if you need that. We had the rockfish dish and the ribeye steak. Wow! Both were incredible. Salad before our main dishes, simple but an incredible and unusual combination and flavor. Desserts, yum! Amazing service! They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect (celebrated my bday there this weekend) . Friendly, professional, attentive, happy, and they genuinely care about your experience there. Highly recommend! The vibe is always warm and inviting. They renovated recently and they have an area for you to have a drink before dinner in a separate area. So perfect!
