This is a sister diner to the Longmeadow Diner at the north end of town. Same menu, same ok quality and same friendly service. I like that they offer a senior menu. The portions are smaller and the price is likewise lower. A good deal for seniors. Their dessert offerings is pretty decent. Lots of choices. This is a non- chain business with a loyal local customer base which is always a plus for me and why I was eager to try it. My husband was excited about the breakfast-all-day menu. Our server was sweet and friendly, but a bit forgetful. We had to remind her about a few things. It was nothing major, but definitely not the "second to none" service that the other reviews raved about. It was average. I ordered fish and chips. The serving was generous and came with a side of coleslaw, and the fries were lightly battered and very delicious, however I was surprised and a little dismayed that the fish is definitely frozen fish fillets that one could buy at any grocery store. Given that their seafood menu boasts fresh fish, I expected better. Four fish fillets and fries were stacked rather high in a bowl that was relatively small for the large serving. I had to move my food over to my appetizer plate in order to cut and eat the fish. It was very awkward. My Husband got chopped steak with a baked potato and had no complaints at all, except for a few forgotten items that were remedied. Does Hub City Diner live up to its 4 star hype? Something about the smell of the atmosphere when you walk in the door is not correct. Somebody please double check me but staying next-door at the Home 2. I've tried to walk in several times and had to stop, but I pushed through and wished out to pay attention to my first instinct. Hub City Diner Thursday 1/4/24 11am Hagerstown MD In town for a video shoot. Stopped by here for breakfast. Very much a diner and family friendly. I was seated immediately and chose to sit at the bar. I was waited on quickly. I ordered: Western omelette - good Home fries w/onions - good Rye toast toasted lightly - good Sweet tea w/extra lemon - good I will say that there seems to be a lot of team work going on in this restaurant. Several waitresses asked me was I ok throughout my meal. I also noticed them helping one another taking food to tables. No doubt about the customer service and team players. It was good to see. This place was so good that I downloaded the app, made an account, just to leave this review. I was driving home for the holidays and wanted some breakfast. I ordered the French toast with Nutella and fruit, home fries, biscuits, and bacon. The French toast was so fluffy and the fruit was so fresh and the whipped cream was perfectly chilled. I couldn't be more happy with my experience. The staff was friendly and kind. All of my food came out in genuinely about 10 minutes. Even the other people eating were friendly!!! If the vibe of Bob Evans is exactly what you are looking for you have found the place for you. They confirmed for us within moments that it was indeed a former Bob spot. I even think they left up the hangable folksy wall "art" that didn't actually say BE... all good. I have no hate for Bob Evans, my wife who used to work geriatric health care is very familiar with the Bobster. We even actually went to one on an early get together. Heck in another 15 years or so it will be just the place for us, 1630 dinner here we come. Okay, I have that out of my system. This place is fine, it is exactly what it advertises itself to be a "diner". I do apppreciate that the menu isn't as [we can cook anything] as most diners make the mistake of taking on. It is still too big and a bit all over the place. The wife got a Turkey Rachel and I got wings and a chef salad. It was all well put together. Her sandwich had real turkey, and good balance on the condiments. My salad had something other than lettuce and lunchmeat, which is a huge improvement over some diners attempt at salads. I give an extra star for the young woman who took care of us, Juliana. She is a local, she was personable, on the ball, welcoming. I have to say everyone else was a little bit "chilly", not outright hostile, but as the only brown guy in the place (lot's of beige workers though) some of the looks and body language vibes of those less currently oriented to the realites of America today and future were a bit present. There is a Hallmark movie where the joke line is "that's Garland for you". I think the attitude of the other oldsters in the room was "that's Hagerstown for you". Great place to stop passing through on the interstate. Huge menu, we had breakfast. Friendly and fast service, possibly got our food faster than McDonalds. Huge portion sizes, definitely not leaving hungry. Really can't go wrong if you're looking for a quick reasonably priced diner meal. read more

While we were hoping for a divey mom & pop diner, we have to concede that the food quality and value at Hub City were decent. Service was also very good. Ambiance is of course lacking in what could have been a repurposed Denny's or the like, but hitting three out of four on a Yelp site referral was good enough for us as travelers just passing through. read more

The service was excellent. I felt sorry for the waitress because the food was terrible. My eggs were nearly raw and I ordered them over medium. My partners food was stone cold - I mean - out of the fridge cold. There was hardly anyone in there and you could see the cooks standing around and talking. It was a sad place to dine for breakfast. We will definitely not be back. The ambiance was weirdly jingoistic with American flags and such. If you focus more on the food, I promise you'll have and keep more customers. Good luck. read more

Popped into the restaurant while visiting my parents. It's located near Valley Mall where Bob Evans used to be. They've done a great job renovating the inside to give it a spacious and inviting feel. As you enter there is a cold case of gorgeous desserts and a board with the daily specials listed as you would expect at an authentic diner. Our server, Lisa, has the art of waiting tables down pat. She was friendly, knows how to engage in good conversation and was attentive throughout the meal. The servings are huge so be prepared to share or take home a doggy bag if you are not a big eater. The menu has lots of great choices but we opted for a late breakfast. I ordered the day's special which was Irish Benedict. It's a lovely twist on the original replacing the ham/bacon with corned beef hash. The home fries we crispy and you have the option to hold the onions which I appreciate because I'm not supposed to eat them. My poached eggs were just a smidge over cooked but I like mine super runny so I'll just let them know next time. Can't wait to visit again and check out the lunch menu. read more

Despite eating here a few times before and having a typical and pleasant experience, this latest experience on Father's Day will probably be the last time we visit... Eggs Benedict has -hollindaise- sauce. HCD used chicken gravy and two waitresses went out of their way to try to convince me, their customer that the chicken gravy was hollandaise sauce...on crab Benedict. For the record, it was gross and an inappropriate substitution for hollandaise sauce. Rather than remedy the situation, not one but two servers decided that it was ok to argue with their customer attempting to convince me that chicken gravy was hollandaise sauce going a far as to make continued "wow" comments in front of other customers. Upon speaking to the manager yet another customer approached the same manager to remark on the disrespectful behavior of the servers in trying to argue with their customer... There is a lacking of simple base level customer service..."Wow" indeed. read more

I'm really not sure how this place doesn't already have an overall 5 star rating. Every single time we go, the food is delicious and the service is outrageously good! We've had breakfast there many times and last night we went in for an early dinner. It's hard to find good food and service at affordable prices these days, but Hub City Diner has all three! My kids each got burgers that were cooked perfectly - I mean they looked and tasted seriously gourmet! My husband got the hamburger steak dinner, which he said was cooked perfectly and delicious! I got the BLT club and it was amazing! The fries were also cooked to perfection. It's obvious that all of their employees take pride in their work (so rare these days!) and I have to assume that the owner treats them well, because the staff always seems happy, and we've seen many of them several times when we visit. In other words, they don't seem to have high turnover. The service is always stellar! We've never had to wait long for a table and we've always had our order taken and food to us fast! I just really can't say enough good things about Hub City Diner! The service, food, and price cannot be beat! read more
