We had a group company dinner on a Thursday night. Only one of us have been there before and the remainder of the group were all confused about how to get in. Ironically there's a finger pointing sign but it's weirdly misleading. I walked into an I overly elegant dining area and it was unusually empty. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Evening dinner began with drinks. I had an Old Fashioned and it was terrible, a 1 out of 10. Meal was just ok. Service was also not great. Our server was very slow and pushed up-charges hard. Was amazing before COVID. Then, like many restaurants, they really went nuts with how they jacked up the prices while making the servings of food smaller. First Post, Holy Hound, Great American Saloon, even Tutoni's managed to keep the value good to this day and not fleece customers. One of the best dining experiences I've had in York! The French onion soup sandwich is one of the best things I've ever tasted! Also - amazing fries with it. My fiancé got the orange glazed chicken which was just as good. The staff were also amazing, and we had a great waitress! For our appetizer we had the cheese fondue, which was great as well. Saturday night 5:30pm called three times and was hung up on three times by the bar. Drove to the restaurant to place a pick up order was told by the bar they don't accept pick up orders till 8 o'clock. They close at 9 o'clock !! half the tables are empty. Delicious experience. Outdoor seating was nice surrounded by flowers and a water feature made a very relaxing spot. Wednesday night is steamer night $8 and wing night $8 per pound. My friends got them. I tried both and very good. Wings had good flavor, plenty of meat, easy to chew. I chose the honey sriracha chicken bites, they were so good. Just enough sweet/hot. I got a side of grilled asparagus. Yummy. For dessert, I got the honey ricotta cheese cake which was a special dessert for Honey Week. It was rich and creamy. Melted in my mouth. I think this is the most underappreciated restaurant in York. Always great food and service. The menu items are always imaginative.

We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was amazing. The food was terrific and the staff was attentive. Both the events manager Connie and owner Byron were extremely helpful and supportive throughout the entire planning process. We were able to use their patio to have the event outdoors and they even let us stay after closing to enjoy the bar. I could not recommend Roosevelt Tavern more for a rehearsal dinner or regular dinner. The sides were fresh and I LOVED my short rib. read more

A colleague of mine recommended this restaurant . So for a very special occasion my wife and I decided to try it . So we took my mother for her 85th birthday . Turned out to be a very bad decision. Do not let anybody fool you this place " SUCKS ". They have a very limited menu. I was totally embarrassed . And totally pissed off when the bill came . The bartender could not even mix a whiskey and water drink. And all the other drinks were sent back twice to be redone . I would not recommend this place to anyone . And feel sorry for anybody that does recommend or refer this place to anyone. read more

We have had good experiences in the past, but the most recent visits have been underwhelming and we have left disappointed. The restaurant week menu was terribly overpriced. The lobster bisque was flavorless and the fried rice on the pork belly option looked and tasted very, very similar to the frozen fried rice bags (not to mention the pork belly was overly glazed with the sweet chili sauce). The bacon was over cooked on the scallops, which were unfortunately charred. Lastly, each course of our meal took much longer than desired with the dinner lasting roughly 3 hours long. read more

A Friend and I dined there today for Mother's Day. The Buffet was delicious, grilled asparagus, squash, zucchini , bacon cheese quiche , mashed potatoes ( awesome) , maple glazed ham, carved beef , Seafood Bisque, steamed shrimp, salads , dijonaisse chicken and so much more. On 7/12/17, I met a friend for dinner at the Roosevelt Tavern, in downtown, York, PA. I am a Pescatarian now, so I checked-out their menu online prior to agreeing to meet there for dinner. Their menu featured several items that were acceptable to my dietary requirements, providing a selection of fish, seafood, dairy, eggs, and cheese. We reserved a table on the patio since we both enjoy outdoor settings. Upon arrival at 5:30 PM on a Wednesday, the restaurant was empty, inside and outside. The hostess was kind enough to indicate to me, being the first to arrive, that the table that was reserved for us may not be the table we would ultimately want due to it being in direct sunlight at that time of the early evening. She showed me the table, all had umbrellas, and suggested that I take another table in the shade that was just as private, in fact a more aesthetically pleasing table because of the foliage growing along the privacy fence where the table was located. The hostess offered a pub menu, which I declined, and then offered the dinner menu. I also asked for the wine list indicating that we would probably order a bottle of wine. Shortly thereafter, a male server came to the table and asked if I wanted something to drink and I indicated that he could fill the two glasses with ice water until my guest arrived. My guest arrived minutes later and the male server came to the table immediately asking if we knew what we wanted. I told him we needed a few minutes to peruse the wine list. When he came back to the table, I told him that we would take a bottle of the Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling. We were not in a rush, but it took him a long time to return with the wine. Coming to the table with the wine bottle in hand, he went to another table to open the wine. He proceeded to pour the wine into both glasses with no wine formalities beforehand. It wasn't really a big deal, since the bottle was under $30.00, but I expected more from a restaurant where the average dinner entree costs $25.00+. I ordered the Seared Rare Tuna (mango-pineapple salsa, balsamic syrup) rare, as my appetizer and my guest order a cup of the Cream of Crab soup. Both appetizers were very good. For entrees, we both ordered the Grilled Scottish Salmon Filet (soy ginger butter, smoked cauliflower puree, baby bok choy). The entrees were delicious and prepared to perfection. For dessert, my guest ordered Lemon Meringue Tart and a cup of decaffeinated coffee and I ordered a Cappuccino. The entire dinner was wonderful, however, we had several servers, both male and female waiting on our table, including the hostess who continued to check on our table throughout the night. Our water glasses were not refilled without asking, often left empty throughout the meal and after the meal while we sat at the table continuing our conversation. At dessert time, the male and female servers needed to be reminded to bring-out the Lemon Meringue Tart, which they never did. Finally the hostess made her rounds again and she ultimately brought-out the dessert. I would recommend going to the Roosevelt Tavern for dinner. They have off-street parking; having their own parking lot next to the restaurant. I would also let the server know upon your arrival that you expect your water glass to be refilled frequently. I would have given the Roosevelt Tavern a 5-star rating if it were not for the subpar service. read more

I don't get the good reviews. Six of us from out of town dined there on Saturday. Our waitress was a much older lady who was stiff and robotic. The atmosphere was creepy in a 70s way. They push bottle water which I highly recommend as the tap water is horrible. The crab cakes were very small and fishy. We had a tough and chewy Delmonico which was returned. I've been here several times and don't understand why this restaurant is so popular. Don't get me wrong, it is ok for a larger party (6+). I would never come here on a "date night" with my wife unless we were sitting in the bar, having a burger, and drinking beer. The main dining room food is just ok for me. It's not exactly what I would call fine dining. On Sundays, they offer a reasonably-priced, all-inclusive meal. You get a soup, salad, entree, and dessert. Most of these are $21.99, while some are $24.99. Either way, it is a fairly good deal. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal here. On the flip side, I can't say I've ever had a great meal either. During our last visit, I was with my wife and 4 members of her family. I ordered the all-inclusive steak bistro. This is a thin steak, served on a bed of mashed potatoes with gravy. The steak was overdone but the potatoes and gravy were fine. It should be a good indication that the steak is not going to be good when they don't ask you for your preferred temperature. My wife had the haddock with roasted red pepper sauce. She liked it. I admit it did look good. My mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law both had crab cakes. They seem to enjoy them, they order them every time. My father-in-law had a spinach salad and shrimp cocktail. He said it was good. I find it hard to believe that any restaurant could make a significantly distinctive shrimp cocktail. Several of us had the cream of crab soup. It is good and is one of their specialties. Be warned, it is VERY RICH and the sherry they give you on the side makes it richer (the carafe of sherry is nice though). My wife and mother-in-law had the cordial parfaits, one with Bailey's and the other with Chambord. They seemed to enjoy them. My wife said hers was ok, nothing special. During our last visit, the waitress was terrible. I think it was a combination of not being properly trained and the fact that she was just a bad waitress. It is a shame that most restaurants don't take the time or effort to train their staff on the proper serving of wine. For me, if you have wine on the menu, you should know how to serve it. I only come here because my in-laws, especially my grandmother-in-law, seem to enjoy it. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't come here. read more

Okay first off-This place is $20 and up per plate...I only was able to go because a vendor from my fiance's work invited him, and I tagged along.(I'm never one to pass up a free meal) The atmosphere was quite nice for being "in the city." I loved the stainded glass hanging light fixtures. (seriously considered stealing one) There was live music playing in the bar area and some kind of light insturmental streaming in the dining room. The server we had was very friendly and did not mess up anything at our table of 16. Now for the best part...the food! I had cream of crab soup for an appetizer-DELISH! It was a thicker consistancey than I ever had before, but it was the tastiest by far. Some of the other guests had shirmp cocktail, and they seemed equally satisfied by the "mmmmhhhss" coming out of their mouth between bites. I also had a garden salad which was...just a normal salad. However my fiance had a spinach salad with blueberry pomegranate dressing! My main course was lobster-crabcakes and a baked potato. Jeff got Chilean Seabass. I was served two cakes and had to give Jeff one of them because that soup had really filled me up. It was sooo good. I honestly think the only thing that would have made it better is if they served those cheddar-bay biscuits that Red Lobster has. We did not get desert-sadly. Date night and it was a huge hit. My crab cakes were more crab then filler. I've never had Sweet Corn Pudding but it's now MY FAVORITE. My husband had Chesapeake Filet that he thoroughly enjoyed. Good but not great! Okay , York has some great restaurants and there are other more trendy spots, but this succeeds by doing meat and seafood in basic, but satisfying execution. The Roosevelt has a lot of parking and is a very inviting place. We ate in the main dining room, but there is also a bar area that was quite lively the night we were there. I was impressed that they not only had a number of interesting "specials", but also made a point of mentioning what items are locally sourced. I had a the small filet and it was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I normally like this place. Bring work events here and in the past no issues. However, tonight was not good. My salmon was good but my wife ordered the beef tips. They were tough and chewy...to the point of inedible. Interesting that the entree was $26...that comes later. Then when we brought it up (and my wife never does this but I tasted it and it wasn't good) they said that is the way these are cooked would you like to do the filet mignon instead and she agreed. Now everyone else ate when she got the filet. And...it too was tough and chewy (medium rare)....For a filet that is not good! So now we told the waitress to tell the chef he must had a bad cut of meat. But then the bill came and it had the cost of the filet at $32 bucks! Now, I paid it but wouldn't you think that at least they would have given the filet (after we complained again) at the original price entree? To me that is just poor customer service to me. If you are eating here and you are under 40, you might be the only one under 40 there. Heck, you might be the only one under 60. It's one of those awesome old people restaurants that gives off a bit of a musty vibe but makes it worthwhile when you have giant portions of delicious food for less than you'd expect to pay. I come here often with friends, especially on Sunday night when they have their ridiculously cheap special for like $22 that includes everything you'd want in a meal. The cream of crab soup alone is worth the trip! The entrees are always good--they never take any culinary adventures into the unknown, but sometimes you know what you want and what you want is dinner piled with crab meat and cream sauces. The main dining room is drab. And, when not sitting in the main area you can also sit in the corner of a random side room that is about 40 degrees with no windows in sight. The food was awful. I would have rather ate at a Applebees than this place. The twice baked potato was probably taken out if a box to " cook" it. The cream of crab was only good if you have never been outside if PA. The chicken had the consistency of a leather boot and was hands down the driest piece of chicken I have ever ate or tried to eat. My wife had the filet and there was no taste to it even though it was cooked pretty good. She said she can get a better steak for less at Texas Roadhouse (which is awsome). Finally I felt it was very over priced considering the poor and just down right cheap ingredients they use. The steak or chicken Chesapeake meals are just awful. I ate dinner there with three friends of mine on a Friday night. The food was excellent. The lighting was great. Unfortunately the live band that they had was way too loud for the space forcing us to leave. The band was fine in their music style and had the right look for the establishment, but the sound was so loud everything was vibrating and distorted. The meal price tag didn't fit the casual billing of the restaurant either. For two people who had a beer and one mixed drink plus a special dinner and a petite filet the meal price tag was $75 before tip. This was very steep.
