The word was that there was nothing to do in York. But that was so wrong. York was a little foodie enclave. Tutoni had some excellent Elite reviews and that always gets my attention. The atmosphere is cozy & sexy. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and overall just delightful. For drinks we had the Purple Rain & The Saint and they were both epic, slow sipping goodness. As an appetizer the Spring Pea Bruchetta was incredible, fresh, complex and flavorful. Our mains were highly memorable. We had the Octopus Jalapeno pasta & the Branzino. I'll say this, nothing could be improved upon. Everything was just right! Can't wait to return. read more

Enjoyed a evening with the york young professionals it was very enjoyable start to finish with a great atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone craving a well above average dinning experience in york. read more

Good food but largely disappointing. The lady bartender was very rude to the bar back who was doing a fine job. The other bartender repeatedly yelled "bar back" when instructing him to do things. The interactions made it difficult to enjoy the food or atmosphere and honestly ruined my dinner out. I will find other locations to spend my time and money and that treat ALL staff with respect. read more

This was our first visit to Tutoni's. We liked the decor though we were super close to the couple next to us. This is a BYOB place and they do charge a corking fee. We started our meal with the calamari which was good. They must have a different preparation nightly for several of the meals so you have to be sure and find out what the details are. The bread and olive oil (we chose the rosemary oil and balsamic) was good but the bread was burned. I picked the crust off and it was fine. Our salads were great. I had the fresh mozz. salad and the cheese was excellent. It came with red and green tomatoes. My husband had the stone fruit salad and it too was wonderful. For the entree, I chose the Chicken Gemelli and I really liked it. The portion was large and it had really good flavor. My husband had the steak with potatoes and veggies. He is not one to complain but when I tasted the steak, it was very salty. This was surprising and he couldn't finish it. Dessert was interesting in that they offer small servings. This is great since I really wanted to try something but I was full. I did try the peanut butter mousse and it was great. The coffee comes to the table in a French press and that was nice. We will return to Tutoni's. This would be a great place to go with a group or for a romantic dinner. The wait staff was very attentive and answered all of our questions about the menu. read more

Great find! Delightful waitress, delicious food, great atmosphere and loved the fact they are BYOB - our favorite kind of places but hard to find these days. read more

It was the first time dinner at York. Such a great food and service!! We love to come back again. Just need to bring own wine.

Excellent! The food is fresh, light and perfectly prepared & served. They are worth the price, which really was reasonable. But dont leave without sampling dessert. I would return for that alone! read more

This was so bad. The owner has since emailed me and asked us to come back for wine and a tasting, but I still have to document our experience there. I will say, not only was this a poor experience, but could have been worse. One friend with me that night has a deadly allergy to tree nuts. When the charcuterie plate came, she asked what the nuts were that were placed in a bowl on the platter. The host told us they were pumpkin seeds. I asked him if he was sure about that because they did not look like pumpkin seeds and he reiterated that yes, he was sure, they were pumpkin seeds. They were almonds, and this could have been a deadly mistake. The waiter who appeared after 45 minutes also did not know what the drinks were that he was delivering. We stated that one had alcohol ( a spritz) and one did not (a mocktail from the menu). Though they are starkly different, he did not know and had to return them. Another large mistake since the mocktail was for my visibly pregnant friend. He later brought me a glass of orange juice with either vodka or gin. I explained that I had ordered a spritz. His reply was, "That is a spritz." And then he just never appeared again after spilling the actual spritz all over us and serving us burnt and poor quality food. Two of my friends ordered something they had ordered there previously. They said this was nothing like their original meal. One was even visibly burnt. This took us a total of two hours. Two hours, for no food, spilled and incoorrect drinks repeatedly, and just horrible service. read more

The tapas upstairs is the best option. The variety of wine and craft cocktails is the best in the area and James (the sommelier) is a fantastic person. The three stars is due to their inability to cook pasta to an appropriate level of doneness. Go for the wine and tapas, avoid the pasta. read more

YAY YORK! This type of restaurant is what York needs. Inside the restaurant is really cool, nicely decorated, great ambiance. Farm-to-table type restaurant which is all the rage nowadays (not to mention supporting locally). BYO which is great. YES there is a corking fee...any decent BYO has a corking fee. I'm not sure why people are so outraged by that. We got some appetizers which were good. The cheese board is very good and includes a little sliver of heavenly honeycomb. Calamari was just ok. I would say I'm a bit of a calamari snob though. My brother got a salad which I tasted and that was awesome. I got a pasta with truffle oil. SO good. I believe the waitress told us the pastas are made there. I could be wrong about that though. Regardless, the pasta was great. Service was prompt and attentive, informative and pleasant. All around good experience and we will return. I live in Philadelphia so I feel like in comparison to some AMAZING Philly restaurants, Tutoni's did a great job. read more

This was our second visit to Tutoni's. There is a lot to like-the venue is intimate and attractive. The personnel -greeter & waitstaff, appeared genuinely friendly and knowledgable.Menu selections are limited, but varied enough to accommodate all preferences. We started with the "cheese board" - 4 types of cheese- 2 cow and 2 goat. Paired with "smoked grapes", almonds, and honey. Good start and perfect compliment to the bottle of Shiraz we had brought with us. (Personally, I enjoy an occasional BYOB). My wife found the "bolognese" enjoyable; portions are smaller than most York "all you can eat" venues, but still sufficient to have leftovers for next days lunch. I choose the "carbonara" with help from the waitperson, " My personal favorite and you will love the bacon!". The sauce was good and the pasta had an interesting quality-not al dente, but a little "chewier" than most. The "pork belly" was disappointing, predominantly fat and it overpowered the flavor. I would rate my entree as "good", not great. Dessert was the perfect ending. Miniature "shots" of a variety of sweet treats. I'm not a dessert guy, but did appreciate the small taste to end the meal. Both my wife and I like Tutoni's. They seem to have all the ingredients for a "spectacular" restaurant, but they still a work in progress. read more

Service was fabulous! Ambiance was A+. Unfortunately all of our dishes just missed it! Would not recommend this restaurant.

Tutoni's nailed it. Great warm atmosphere, the service was excellent, food was amazing. Try the leg of lamb. The little details were so well thought out. Loved the fresh French press coffee made at the table. Can't wait to go back. read more

Service was quite poor, everything took forever from drinks to apps to entrees. The food was very average. It was bland. Cooking 101 is to season this was not. Olive Garden has better dishes. Really nice little place but totally underwhelmed by food and especially service. Will not be back. read more

One of the best farm to table restaurants I have eaten at. Great evening. Amazing cocktails, food and ambiance.

We were out of town visitors and made dinner reservations. The restaurant didn't put our reservation down and didn't have the decency to try to accommodate our party of 11 which had hungry children. Instead, we got a "sorry" and we were turned away. We will never come back because it does not deserve our business. read more

Wonderful atmosphere and service. When we went they were out of several things on the menu/wine menu. The food that we did order was not that good for the price that we paid for it. It was pretty bland and not very much to a portion. The dessert menu was horrible. They have a beautiful little place and great idea. Just need to work on the food. read more

This place is gorgeous and the food was even better! Service was spot on also. I had the rigatoni Bolognese and if licking the bowl was appropriate in public I would have, this the best Italian I had since Verona, Italy. Yeah its that damn good! read more

We had a long wait for our entrees but the staff was very accommodating. My entree wasn't what I expected and they kindly replaced it with another item of my choice. All in all it was a good experience and we would go there again. read more

I left hungry after eating the $28 steak which didn't include a salad or real veggie without an additional cost.

Have been wanting to try for a while and finally did. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Didn't know it was BYOB so come prepared. Loved the beet salad! Wonderful goat cheese ravioli with mushroom and asparagus. It was a busy Saturdah night but service was great. Will return soon! read more

Great service, great atmosphere. This is not your quick in and out restaurant. It is a place to spend time and relax. Every course is a must! read more

My fiance and I just visited Tutoni's for the first time for wine and tapas. Our experience was fantastic! The bartender, James, was educated from a master sommelier and was very friendly, helpful, and made some excellent recommendations. All the tapas we ordered were amazing! Our favorite part may have been the self serve wine machine where we were able to taste many excellent wines! read more

Took 35 minutes just to have our drink order taken. With each order we had to flag someone down. Almost 3 hours later 2 drink orders, a spilled drink in a lap that was not refilled, and our burned dinners we were very unhappy. Worst service ever for a place so highly recommended. Headed down the street to Otto's to great service and a good meal. read more

We have eaten there several times and they never miss a beat! Their food is amazing!!! Their personnel is incredible, we especially like their server Anthony! His personality shines& he is very knowledgeable! read more

Tutoni's is all around amazing. There is SO much character to the building and an amazing amount of creativity in the food!!! There is nothing like it in York. The staff is incredibly friendly and the environment is perfect for any occasion! The staff informed me last visit that drinks will soon be served on their menu and a bar opening upstairs... I'll be visiting again ASAP. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times for dinner and lunch. Unfortunately my last visit there was less than great. The food was amazing as always, appetizers dinner and dessert. However the service was awful. Our waitress was rude and less than friendly. She messed up our order and then blamed it on us. Then my husband and I had to listen to 3 waitresses complain about their tables and customers. The one waitress loudly complained how her table only tipped her $15. There is a new bar area that is beautiful, but unfortunately it was not open yet. This area just became a hang out for the waitresses to complain. Very disappointed, not sure when I will want to go back. read more

Were I rating Tutoni's purely on food and atmosphere, they would probably get an additional star or two. I'm also a big fan of the farm-to-table concept they've adopted, and would be willing to pay the higher price point (that they have) for this. What they excel at is the decor and theme of the restaurant. Chalkboard menus and contemporary art line bare brick walls with dark wood paneling and give a feel of a major city restaurant. Their food is also delicious. We sampled the carpaccio that was to-die-for and their signature steak had me wishing for more. The truffle pasta, though housemade, was less impressive, although this is apparently one of the more popular menu items. Desserts that evening were a novel "shooter" - everything from cheesecake to panna cotta in a large shot glass, and each patron could choose his/her favorite. So why the 3 stars? Tutoni's is BYOB at the moment, meaning they do not serve alcohol. They advertise this on their website and as such, we brought a bottle of wine to dinner. Coming from Philly, my experience has been, if a restaurant is BYO, they do not charge a corkage fee. Not so at Tutoni's. Nor do they specify this additional $10 fee on their website. I could understand this in a NYC or DC restaurant, but we were rather surprised, and opted not to have wine with dinner. This might not be a big deal to others - if it isn't, you'll love this place. For us, it felt somewhat pretentious and an unnecessary expense. read more

The Tutoni's team has done a fine job on this beautiful downtown spot, serving up fresh, seasonal, local dishes. We enjoyed the meatballs appetizer as well as the bruschetta. The meatballs were accompanied by a creamy polenta and savory carmelized onions. It was perfect. The bruschetta surprised us with its pureed garbonzo bean base. It was a wonderful light and satisfying dish. The dinner entrees were no disappointment either! We ordered up the spring risotto and lobster ravioli, and wow, this place just keeps on impressing. I was informed by our lovely server that the risotto contained no butter or cheese, yet it still managed a rich flavor and I loved the accent of the peas and asparagus. Maybe a splash of lemon would be nice with it? The lobster ravioli was divine, so rich and creamy. It was a decent portion, with homemade noodles. Overall, we had a lovely dinner experience and will be back again in the near future! We were also very pleased with the cost of this dining excursion, at just under $50 for dinner and appetizers for two. read more

superb... can hardly afford it but top notch. i highly recommend this place

Loved the atmosphere inside of Tutonis, but unfortunately the food lacked. I've been to Tutoni's twice with the first time leaving feeling like I must have ordered the wrong thing from reading some of these reviews. I went back this past weekend with a group of 6 people and once again left feeling unsatisfied. Not one person at our table were happy with their meals. The only thing I can say we were happy with were the Mussel's, which I will say were outstanding. I honestly can say my rigatoni tasted like it came out of an Hamburger Helper box. Unfortunately I think my Hamburger Helper may even be better. As much as I want this place to be good because of the interior I just can't bring myself to go back again. If I could combine the atmosphere of Tutoni's with the food of Moonlight Cafe it would be a homerun. I will stick with Moonlight from here on out when I want good authentic italian. Anyone thats been to a good italian restaurant will see right through Tutoni's. Don't buy in to the hype!! read more

Fantastic!...That says it all!...What wonderful food and staff!...It's starts with a warm and caring owner Toni...She and her staff made our night besides the food being terrific!...The Brussel Sprouts dish with their own sauce on top is a must for the table..In fact I ordered Frutti del Mare as a main dish and they had no problem substituting the Brussels sprouts for the pasta ...It was delicious!...Black Spaghetti with lobster was so good . And for those who are squeamish about black ink pasta; "Get over it"..it's so good...Get over the name , be open to something different! There is a charming "Speak Easy" cocktail room in the basement...Unfortunately it was Closed but was treated to a tour of the room ...I would go back just to have fun down there! My daughter who lives in this area Is in love with Tutoni and insisted to treat us to something special for my birthday...Boy was she right about this place!!!! read more

Our family went to this restaurant on Thursday, May, 4, 2017. It was the third anniversary. We had an excellent waiter. However, the service was very slow starting with the drinks. We had to request that bread be brought to our table after we noticed that tables all around us had bread automately taken to theirs. It was supposed to be a night of endless pasta sampling. We made repeated requests for samples. We heard our waiter making the requests for us. Finally after our entrees had arrived, our waiter brought the first pasta sampling himself. My older son, my husband and I all enjoyed our entrees. My younger son tried his very expensive salmon to find that it was salty and greasy. He was sick by the time he got home and left work early the next day because of an upset stomach. I had heard so many good things about this restaurant. That's why I wanted to try it. Now, simply put, I'm dissppionted. read more

Traveling east and choose to stay in York, PA. Had recommendation to eat at White Rose. Got there and realized it was St. Patrick's Day. Oops! Left with no plan and drove by Tutoni's. I had seen a review on Yelp and though we would give it a try. Awesome. Walked in and found a warm welcome and a very chic upscale restaurant. We were seated and a most memorable meal began. We started with the beet salad, mandolin sliced pink beets with baby yellow beets and dollops of goat cheese. A mix of spring greens, perfectly dressed accompanied the beets. BTW Chef does not put salt or pepper on the table. He is that confident in his seasoning profile. Next we had our entrees. I had the steak, which sound boring but was heavenly. Locally sourced beef cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. My wife had the cannelloni. Filled tubes of an ethereal ground meat mixture and a great sauce. We ate everything and then had dessert, a frozen chocolate wonder. Run don't walk to this gem of a restaurant and give homage to a fine chef! read more

My wife and I really appreciate everything about Tutoni's...the atmosphere, the service, and the food. It's a wonderful addition to York's downtown. We went most recently Saturday, July 29. The waitress (Elise?) was very friendly and professional...and made some great recommendations on appetizers and salads. We opted for classic pasta dishes, which were both excellent. Though the restaurant will be getting its liquor license in 90 days we're told, we've really liked the option of bringing our own wine and saving on the total cost. Unlike another reviewer, we didn't see the BYOB as a "glass half empty." Tutoni's has some exciting plans for the restaurant in the coming months when they do get their liquor license, and we look forward to continuing to support this great venue. The owners have high standards and innovative ideas for a restaurant we feel is one of the best in York. We'll be return customers as long as they're serving! read more

Based on other reviews that we read we were excited to dine at Tutoni's only to be disappointed in the end. They claim to be a farm to table restaurant that locally sources all of their ingredients. i would love to know where locally you can source salmon and tuna, but hey maybe I'm just not well versed in the indigenous fish of central PA. My husband's wine arrived with a gnat desperately trying to swim for it's life. He fished it out and when we told the waitress her response was, "they are everywhere right now. I have them at home too" Did not offer to bring a fresh glass without living creatures in it. When asked for flavor profiles of the wines on the Italian list (they are listed by region and that is it), she had very little knowledge and could only recommend 1 of the red wines which she had tried. I ordered the New Fashioned cocktail which boasts a housemade gin(waitress could not tell me what botanicals were infused in the GNS they purchase - I opted to substitute Bluecoat since she couldn't describe the flavor profile for me) which came in a huge glass with about 2 ounces in it...definitely not worth the $10 price tag. As an appetizer we chose 2 cheeses and a meat from the blackboard. We were pleased with the quality of the appetizer. For our entrees I ordered the lamb papardelle and my husband ordered the chicken gemelli. My husbands entree was bland and lacked flavor overall. The portion was small for the $20 price. My entree was not much better. The papardelle was cooked well, but the braised lamb sauce was greasy and the mint added an odd flavor profile that didn't quite make sense. The mushrooms were rubbery and not appetizing. We opted out of dessert since the rest of our experience was not the best. Overall, our server was nice and attentive but lacked knowledge. The food was meh...not impressed and the prices were a bit high for the quality and quantity received. read more

A group (3 couples) went to restaurant Sat. evening (3/12/16) w/reservations for 7:30PM. My wife and I arrived a little early so we went upstairs to the bar and the hostess told us she would come get us when rest of party arrived. 25 minutes later one of our party came up and informed us there had been there at the table for 20 minutes. After sitting down with rest of the group, it took 45 minutes to get our drinks (2 were wrong) multiple items on the menu including the special were not available (after ordering and waiting for 15 minutes before being told items were not available). Entrees were Ok but a bit pricy for pasta. Multiple staffers making excuses didn't seem sincere as if they were accustomed to doing it on a regular bases. Personally, I've been in the hospitality industry for over 40 years and can't imagine running my restaurant on a weekend night so poorly. Would not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more
