Don't understand why this restaurant was highly rated. 1. No crepes 2. No lobster 3. No milk Oatmeal with fruit came in a trough. Too much for one breakfast. Oatmeal seemed to have been soaked overnight, not cooked, watery, not creamy. We were told they were out of milk for oatmeal and they wanted to add more water; we suggested half and half. Don't know what made the waffle "Belgian". Had no characteristics of a Belgian waffle; just a waffle, although decently flavorful. This is New England, if you attempt to be upscale, use real maple syrup. Appears to be run on a shoestring. Inefficient grill ventilation; nothing worse than your clothes smelling like food for a week. Take the money out of the food truck in the back and focus on the restaurant. great food in a quaint hole in the wall place. I enjoyed an amazing breakfast with my mom on our vacation in Westbrook and we brought my dog who sat at our feet on the outdoor patio. Probably the best breakfast I've had down in Westbrook CT, I've been coming down to Waters Edge Resort for the past 12 years and before it was turtle cafe it was known as the muffin corner and that wasn't all that good. Working as a chef in an Irish place I try to make everything look presentable and for this breakfast everything came out looking 5 star. After eating my turtle sizzler which was delicious and the perfect amount of spice, I talked to the chef who had been working right in front of us, and I wanted to give this guy a pat on the back. He was a very nice guy and is friendly. If you want to eat here get here before 8 am because this place isn't all too big but it's worth the wait. read more

We hit up the Turtle Cafe while passing through I-95 on our way to Massachusetts. Given that we were pretty hungry and looking to get back on the road quickly we called in advance to order breakfast. We were told 20 minutes and when we arrived exactly 20 minutes later our breakfasts were piping hot and ready to go. We ended up having a few quick moments to sit and eat. To be honest this is not a great place for social distancing inside during COVID given it's petite size. However, there are several very clean outdoor sidewalk tables that suited us just fine. The first word that comes to mind when thinking of our meal from Turtle Cafe was FRESH. My husband and I split the salmon crepe and clam hash. The seafood, eggs, and greens all tasted like they were just freshly caught, laid, or picked from the garden. Both dishes were indeed super satisfying and adequate in portion size that didn't leave one with the typical bloated breakfast feeling. Admittedly the clam hash was a little on the greasier side, but the scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and hearty toast helped to soak up any concern. The clam hash would have been a solid performer in and of itself, but the salmon crepe was such a showcase. The warmed goat cheese coupled with the crispy spinach and lemon sauce were the perfect combination and in conjunction with eggs and lox made this a light, but creamy symphony of a crepe (which by the way was uniformly think and light). Although I can only comment on one breakfast experience Turtle Cafe this place is definitely worth a visit, especially if you love breakfast and seafood together. You can't beat the prices given the fresh quality of the food. read more

Perfectly poached eggs & crispy, but moist hash atop an English muffin with hollandaise. A side of potatoes that were very tasty & crispy. Delish! My husband enjoyed his Clam hash & eggs. I tried the hash, it was so good. I don't really think I'd like it for breakfast though. It tasted like an awesome seafood stuffing. We're excited to try more things on their very interesting menu. The Turtle Cafe is a cute and cozy breakfast spot! My boyfriend highly recommended it as he and his family had been coming here for years since it first opened. They have an extensive menu with crepes, breakfast wraps/burritos, frittatas, pancakes/waffles, etc. They're also open for lunch as well. We picked a spot at the counter where we had a great view of the owner and chef, Ricky Sharma, working his magic. It was really fun to see how everything was prepared behind the scenes. You can tell that he really loves what he does! I chose the Lovers Crepe ($10.25) which were two crepes filled with caramelized apples, strawberries, bananas, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cream cheese. It was drizzled with fruit compote and topped with whipped cream! My boyfriend got the Lobster Crepe Special ($13.95), which was two large, handkerchief-folded crepes stuffed with fresh picked lobster meat, sauteed baby spinach and goat cheese finished with a lemon cream sauce. Both of our crepes were delicious! We also ordered a side of home fries which were perfectly crispy. I can't wait to come back again and try another one of their tasty crepes! Be sure to check out the specials on their Chalkboard as well! A fun fact my boyfriend shared with me is that the cafe's name was inspired by the U.S.S. I met a friend here for Sunday brunch. While Turtle Cafe looks like like a pretty typical breakfast spot, the smells and tastes of many of its dishes are definitely a few steps above the usual offerings. Be aware that the quarters are cramped and you may have to wait a bit. It wasn't too bad when we got there and the staff does a good job seating everyone as soon as possible. As others have noted, this is the spot to be more adventurous than eggs and bacon. I got the Mediterranean frittata, which was the perfect mix of feta, artichokes, red peppers, and arugula over eggs. The dish was seasoned and prepared perfectly. I was trying to keep things healthier, but I still wanted something tasty, so this was exactly what I wanted. My friend got scrambled eggs, sausage, and a waffle. The waffle came out a bit later, but she was pleased with all of it. There are a number of waffle specials that I would love to try when we head back to the Turtle. If you're headed up the Connecticut coast, this is the perfect spot for some delicious food at a good price. Enjoy! read more

The Turtle Cafe is conveniently located on the town circle with street parking and a public parking lot to the right. The food is fantastic if you like home cooking and creative twists. I came here two mornings in a row it was so good. I had the "Salmon Mess" and the "Turtle Sizzler" both were great. This place came recommended by a friend. I woke up one morning looking for a place to have breakfast with a desire for corned beef hash. The wall behind the counter is covered with 10 years of "Reader Awards" for best breakfast, etc. As luck would have it, corned beef hash is the first thing on the menu at the Turtle Cafe. Seemed like an omen, so, I went for it. The cook and I have pretty different ideas about what corned beef hash is. His hash is finely chopped corned beef about 1/4 inch thick, 8 inches long by 4 inches wide, and has no potatoes. I found one tiny piece of onion. Now add to that the fact that both sides were charred black, in spite of the fact that the waitress reminded him not to make it too dark. I noticed that the woman next to me at the counter smothered her "hash" with ketchup and Frank's hot sauce. That should have been the omen that I heeded. Overall very disappointing. read more

Racism. Worst experience of my life. Local man standing BEHIND me in line was given my table and I was told to wait for the next available while he was seated first. The man was white. I am brown. This needs to be addressed. First come first serve, end of story. Go to Cristy's down the street- the food is way better, like the type that is world known and the service was top notch at Cristy's too. Here is what happened: I walked inside and waited a few minutes. A man came in and waited behind me. I ask for a table for four. The girl said "yes go ahead outside to the empty table, I just need to clear it." I walk outside to the table, then the man behind me in line came outside and demanded to sit there (a regular named Tj) The waitress told me to wait for the next table. I said "I don't understand, I was in line before him." The man spoke loudly, "uh, no you weren't actually because we had to find parking." The two young girls running the place didn't have an answer and just told me I could wait for the next available table. On what basis is that ever OK to take away someone's table and tell them to wait because someone else wanted to sit?? It felt like it was because he was a white male and I am a brown girl. I wanted to leave immediately. I've never been treated that way in my life and it took going away on a "beach vacation" to experience the ugliness of discrimination. It is wrong. I stayed because I was waiting for my family to walk over. My (white) boyfriend and our two 9 year old children walked over after parking the car and they were starving. I explained what happened to my boyfriend and we waited. We waited for the next table. Like second class citizens. I was so upset, I could not eat. I couldn't order anything and I couldn't even speak because when I did, tears would run down my face. It was wrong. We paid the bill but will never go back there. My kids didn't finish their food because they didn't like it. Also, the manager came outside but never even looked at us or offered any kind of apology.
