One of the final days of the year for using the old hot rod, I venture down to the shore, leaf peeping, and wanting to go to the Log Cabin. Located in Clinton Connecticut, this mainstay restaurant came highly recommended by many of my friends. I pulled in and parking was a breeze, even though it was busy. This parking lot was big. Lots of handicapped spaces also. My friend and I went in and we were greeted warmly, and promptly seated Knowing portions were big, but not realizing how big they would be we passed on appetizer. This is where it gets good! My friend ordered lasagna, and I ordered the eggplant Parmesan. We also ordered water, Immediately out came the salads that were included with the meals. These salads were medium sized, and we're probably good enough for just a lunch! Tomatoes, cucumbers, chopped lettuce, and a very nice house dressing, consisting of a creamy garlic, which was delicious. After salad was done our fantastic waitress brought us a big bowl of pasta and sauce. I could've made a meal out of this! This wasn't just any run of the mill, this was delicious pasta and sauce. Oversized entrées were next on the Bill and I ate probably 1/5 of the eggplant Parmesan. It was huge. I think three or four people could've split this. My friend ate probably about the same of the lasagna. For dessert, we split a Reesie's chocolate pie that was very, very sweet creamy, and hit the spot with the chocolate sauce and whip, whipped cream around the plate Bag probably weighed at least 7 pounds. We brought home the pasta, the lasagna, and the eggplant Parmesan. I loved the eggplant Parmesan. I make a pretty mean Parmesan, but this eggplant Parmesan was on point. It just exploded with great Italian flavors My friend liked the lasagna, as she said it was very, very nice I'm still raving about the big bowl of pasta that came with the meal. Dinner with the tip which included the two big meals which I think were 24.95 each along with the dessert and the big bowl of pasta was roughly $80 and change. This was a deal of deals. There will be meals during the coming week. If you're at the shore and you need takeout, this will be good for the week. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants on the shoreline. Though sometimes when we don't want an enormous amount of leftovers to take home we just order one dinner to go and split it. We stopped into this restaurant for a quick bite before the Cirque show. I figured we'd grab a few appetizers then scoot. First timers here so no clue what to expect. First off, nice log cabin restaurant with large open dining area and small bar. We opted for dining area as it was fairly open. The amazing aroma of marinara filled the room. Service was amazingly friendly. We placed our orders for cocktails, shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms, and garlic bread. We figured some small apps would hold us over. Mind you, it's only my girlfriend and I. We were shocked to see the portion sizes walking by our table while waiting. Huge bowls of pasta and plates over flowing with food. Then I see my gf eyes pop out of her head as she realizes our apps are being served. We received food for at least 5 couples. Please take note when ordering that this is a family style restaurant. Huge portions for everything except maybe the complimentary bread. Drinks were very good so kudos to the bar as well. Long story short, everything was delicious and large doggy bags were required. They were able to serve all food and were made to our show on time due to prompt service. Lines were forming as we walked out establishment. Went for lunch on a Thursday. Even though the fireplace was on it was so cold in there which made it difficult to enjoy are meal with jackets on. Service was slow a lot of girl's running around for 10 tables. We started with bruschetta it was very large but it was too much dressing. Then we got grinders. I got Steak and cheese with a baked potato. Grinder was big and delicious. No butter for the potato asked 2 times and finally got it. My friend got eggplant parmigiana. This cozy restaurant has very good food and plenty of it. You are always going to take home a doggy bag. my only complaint is when you arrive for your reservation, they won't let you sit down at your table (that is just sitting there waiting for you) until everyone arrives. I get that policy for walk ins but for a reservation it doesn't make sense and they won't budge on that. I had a situation where my 90 year old parents were standing waiting at the crowded door area because my sister from out of town was stuck in traffic and running behind schedule. Bring a cooler for your leftovers. First time here and might be my last. First off if you're looking for a quick dinner out this place is not for you. Apparently I missed the part where it says to allow extra time for them to prepare your meals. I wouldn't mind waiting if the food was great but it's sub par at best. The portions are enormous, maybe they should concentrate on smaller portions with better ingredients and flavors. Entrees are served with salad and if you don't get a pasta dinner you are served a dish of pasta that could feed a family of 10. I had the chicken Florentine 3 large chicken breasts aver what I could only imagine was 2 bags of spinach which they chop up, and is very over cooked. The sauce was not very flavorful even though they put pieces of lemon on top of the dish it really lacked that lemon flavor. My boyfriend had the chicken parm. He said it was very good. But honestly he never found a chicken parm he didn't like. Also ordered at our table was a prime rib and stuffed shells dinner. Didn't try these so I can't really give an opinion on those dishes. If you want to go to dinner and plan on not cooking for the next few days this is the place for you. Prices are a bit high but that's because they are giving you like 3 dinners for that price. Place was packed but which only made the service take even longer. Almost 2 hours for a meal that consisted of the salad and dinner. Oh and the pasta is served to you as its own separate course. Cute, rustic log cabin setting. The portions are large and very tasty! I had the Lobster Ravioli Tuscano and my husband had chicken parmesan, we both really enjoyed our meals. A large bowl of pasta for the table was served as part of the chicken parmesan. There were leftovers for at least 3-4 lunch portions. The bill was a bit hefty, but you get a lot for your money. Seems a bit contradictory, log cabin and Italian food, but they blend together well it seems Stopped in for lunch (1:00 PM) with a buddy and the place had a surprising number of patrons. I had a bowl of beef barley soup of the day that was hardy and flavorful. I ordered a steak & cheese grinder with mushrooms & peppers (hold the sautéed onions) that included the ubiquitous fries, and my buddy had a chicken parmesan grinder, also with fries. The steak & cheese served on nice, fresh, toasted grinder sized Italian bread was pretty good , and certainly lived up to the advance billing of being enormous portions. My dining buddy said the same for his chicken parm grinder. I'll likely make the trek back here since it was better than average food and super sized portion, adding up to a very good value in dining. Service was very good. read more

Good but not great. It's a fun lively atmosphere and didn't have to wait too too long on a Saturday night with a group of 8. They could be a bit more attentive to cleanliness: table was sticky all over and several water and wine glasses had obvious smudges (yuck) Portions are huge and good value for the money. I had a swordfish special which was cooked fine but lacked flavor, my husband had a pork tenderloin (a whole one comes out on the plate) and it was overcooked so it was dry, also lacking in flavor. It's nice that you get a salad and family style pasta w sauce. Most of us took something home. They wrapped the leftovers in a take out box, wrapped in plastic wrap and labeled--nice touch! We've only been once but we were thrilled by the extensive menu, portions, and specials. We did takeout one night when we were too tired to cook. The pork chops were surprisingly delicious-cooked perfectly and not over seasoned. If you're ordering takeout, I might suggest calling and asking for the day's specials. When I went to pick up our order, I was excited to see they had prime rib. We probably would have ordered that had we known. This was an unplanned trip just found it and stopped. It was a little slow to find the hostess and get seated and the entry area is pretty tight with patrons going in and out. The hostess was also cleaning tables as well. First let me say there was just 2 of us, should have planned that better as this is a family style restaurant . We were seated in the bar area right next to the doorway, Kinda tight and very busy. The other tables were clearly made for 4 or more. The waitress was pleasant very attentive. We ordered fried mozzarella sticks which were huge, then you are given a salad to share, then at least a pound of ziti for the table (we immediately asked her to box it). Then we shared 2 twin lobster tails, which in this case we should have gotten 1 each they weren't huge. The tails were cooked perfect (no picture we ate too fast) and it came with a baked potato. Everything came out piping hot and pretty quickly. For dessert we got chocolate mousse, Yum!! Parking is plentiful, they have a small outside seating area and plenty of covered space to wait outside if needed. The food here seemed like good ole home cook meal. On July 20th we Waited 15 minutes or more before are waitress approached us, we were not even given menus. We were celebrating a special occasion and we're very disappointed. someone else came and took our drink order but it was never delivered. When the waitress finally arrived I told her we would like another waitress and she said we can get back in line and wait for another table, there were empty tables on the other side. She is the only waitress we had issues with in the more than 30 years of dining there. She again blamed other staff saying we work together. This is the second time we had her and the last time we had her the experience was even worse, we didn't want to give up our favourite restaurant but we ended up walking out and finding another restaurant that was excellent with excellent service and food. we will probably not be going to the log cabin anymore. Unfortunately I will miss it. The last time I called to complain to the manager about the service and he never bothered to call, shame on him. it was not only the service but she was extremely rude and said things that were very inappropriate to nice regular older couple who are normally very patient and leave excellent tips for the excellent service and food.? read more

I met a friend today for a late lunch at the log cabin in Clinton Connecticut. Talk about a delicious restaurant. I ordered eggplant Parmesan which came with pasta and a salad and a bowl of bread. Totally delicious everything was very tasty. And I came home with plenty of leftovers for dinner and maybe even lunch tomorrow. Can't wait to go again read more

Service is a bit slow, but everyone is friendly. We skipped an app because we know this place has huge portions! Lots of holiday martini specials that sounded delicious. We didn't try any. Maybe next time! All entrees come with pasta and salad. Hot bread for the table, too. It was soft and delicious. Pasta prior to meal is good (but you only get 1 large bowl then pay for extra). Pasta dishes are good and large. Seafood is overcooked, chewy and spongy.
