Cozy, rustic place. Lots of staff, but everyone is constantly busy. Had to wait a bit to be seated, but not because they were busy; it was 3:15 on a Saturday afternoon. Service is a bit slow, but everyone is friendly. We skipped an app because we know this place has huge portions! Lots of holiday martini specials that sounded delicious. We didn't try any. Maybe next time! All entrees come with pasta and salad. Hot bread for the table, too. It was soft and delicious. The salads were decent and simple....mixed lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, and homemade dressing. The creamy peppercorn was so good. The pasta comes out in 1 big bowl. Its only for 2 but has to be more than 1lb of pasta. It is so good, I cant stop eating it. I end up getting full before my dinner arrives. I got the cheese ravioli with meatballs. This plate was large enough to share! The meatballs reminded me of how my grandma made them,in the sauce. My husband got the veal with eggplant covered in mozzarella and sauce. On July 20th we Waited 15 minutes or more before are waitress approached us, we were not even given menus. We were celebrating a special occasion and we're very disappointed. someone else came and took our drink order but it was never delivered. When the waitress finally arrived I told her we would like another waitress and she said we can get back in line and wait for another table, there were empty tables on the other side. She is the only waitress we had issues with in the more than 30 years of dining there. She again blamed other staff saying we work together. This is the second time we had her and the last time we had her the experience was even worse, we didn't want to give up our favourite restaurant but we ended up walking out and finding another restaurant that was excellent with excellent service and food. we will probably not be going to the log cabin anymore. Unfortunately I will miss it. The last time I called to complain to the manager about the service and he never bothered to call, shame on him. it was not only the service but she was extremely rude and said things that were very inappropriate to nice regular older couple who are normally very patient and leave excellent tips for the excellent service and food.? read more

Ginormous portions of ok tasting food. Nothing to rave about. Service was ok. Salad is saturated with way too much dressing. Bread is warm and good. Pasta prior to meal is good (but you only get 1 large bowl then pay for extra). Pasta dishes are good and large. Seafood is overcooked, chewy and spongy. For at least $30 a meal I recommend going someplace else with smaller portions but good food and service. read more

Beastly experience last night. Got to the restaurant at 6:15 and they were already out of prime rib. Ah well. Ordered other dishes. The side bowl of pasta cooled while we waited for main dishes so we asked the waitress to have it warmed up. She refused saying we should have asked before. What?? Husband suggested that poor service would impact the tip. She snarled back that her service would reflect our tip. We asked fir the manager at the bar. He was too busy to talk to us. In 60 years of eating in restaurants, some great, some mediocre and some poor, we have never left without tipping. We will never eat there again. I would give it a zero. read more

As I see/saw on the line between 3 and 4 stars, I realize that a lot of the higher ratings are based on the experience of this place. 1st time here, it's great and people are still surprised by the "huge" "enormous" "gigantic" portions of the entrees even though they've read the yelp reviews stating this fact. It's definitely something to experience. But by your third or fourth time here, the surprise, wow factor of the portion size had begun to dissipate, which leaves you to take a closer look just at the food. Start with the bread. Amazing! More please, thank you! And the salad, that gorganzola vinaigrette is definitely worth the extra $0.75! Then the pasta with the sauce. Delicious! More please, thank you! And I wish that's where my meal had ended. Once that portion size WoW moment wore off, i realized that The entrees here have always been just okay ( but I do remember the blue cheese steak being really good the first time I went.) We had a reservation for 12 @6 and when we entered they had the table set and ready for us. The environment was welcoming and warm. By the time everyone arrived they had water and bread for us. They then came around with two good portions of pasta for us and our orders came out in less than 40 minutes. Our server was very nice and attentive and made sure everything was good. The main entrees and sauce were amazing and the portions were enough for a second dinner. We went there to celebrate a 2nd birthday and they offered to refrigerate the cake and when we were done eating they came out with the cake and candle lit and the whole restaurant began to sing happy birthday, which was much appreciated. If you're on the fence about where to go to dinner tonight, look no further! We were visiting town on a short vacation from Central Maine and searched all over yelp for something yummy, but also hearty for a family of four. We have a nine and 12-year-old boy and ordered two different seafood platters to share. As Mainers, we LOVE our seafood! This was the best seafood platter we've ever had! On top of that the salads were loaded with bright leafy greens, And to our surprise each table is served a generous platter of penne with sauce and homemade bread! What an impressive way to serve dinner -family style. This place did not disappoint! Portions were incredibly generous, and the flavors were even better! We came home with 3/4 of one platter inseafood We will definitely make a point of going here again if we're in the area. Wait staff was also super kind and attentive! Update: We couldn't decide where to go for dinner the next night and decided any other place would pale in comparison. Came again to the Log Cabin and ordered similar to last night but added a steak dinner this time and the whole family was double satisfied. You can go anywhere else and order a clam belly platter for the same money with half or less the clams, get no salad and no pasta. Go here and you won't regret! This was by far the best dinner our family has ever had out at a restaurant -and we eat out plenty! The wait staff was attentive and kind again! Highly recommend! Wish I could give them 10 stars! Gargantuan portion sizes of mediocre food. My husband and I spent the weekend at the nearby Waters Edge resort and this places looked promising for dinner one of the nights. Sadly, we were underwhelmed. The shrimp cocktail was worth the price, and that was something we would get again. Beyond that we got the fried mozzarella stick, bruschetta, stuffed shrimp, and chicken parm. Sadly, none of it was impressive. It was a LOT of food that tasted just ok. The Log Cabin is one of my favorite places to go and eat. I'm not much of a cabin or camping girl but something about their environment in the restaurant makes it feel really welcoming. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are HUGE I don't usually eat much to begin with so I always end up with 2-3 meals out of my order. I recommend the pasta bowl of bruschetta. It is a massive size but so good. They make garlic bread, line the bottom is a large pasta serving bowl with it and put the mozzarella, tomatoes, basil etc. On top. Definitely an appetizer to share. Looked for a place to eat after shopping at BB Clinton Crossing. Searched Yelp and found The Log Cabin. Arrived at 5pm and it was busy. It was just me and my teenager. We got seated right before the wait line formed. Our waitress served right away with drinks and bread( hot and delicious). We ordered and then a huge bowl of family style ziti and sauce( delicious) came to our table. Didn't wait long for entrees. Jennifer's pasta was to die for! I couldn't wait to try this place after reading all the great online reviews and driving past it for years without stopping in. I ate dinner there this evening and was not over- or under-whelmed. It was just okay. First of all, I love Italian food and come from an Italian family of restaurant owners. There are many Italian restaurants in the state that I just love. This, however, was mildly disappointing. The tables/chairs were utilitarian, not properly distanced for Covid, it all felt disorganized. Waitstaff inattentive. Pretty gas fireplace. We ordered the Chicken Jennifer, which wasn't lemon-y enough, and the Chicken Gorgonzola, which was overpoweringly cheese-y. Both dishes lacked a nice finish to the taste (sauce.) Pasta sauce was just okay. Salads and bread were very good. Portions were enormous and we have leftovers for another night. I really wanted to love this place, but found it just "meh." Love Luigi's Restaurant a few miles east in Old Saybrook. I'll try it again, but not until the virus is under control. read more

None of the tables were socially distanced and every table was full with more and more people coming into the restaurant. If you need to feed an army, this is your place. My friend and I stopped by late one day and although they were closing, they couldn't have been nicer about accommodating us. When the food came out, we could hardly contain our shock at the enormous size of the bowl of pasta we got. In fact, I had to take a photo of it. They warned me. They warned me and I didn't listen. The portions are GIGANTIC. You have been fairly warned as well. First off, no wait at 6:10 on a Friday night was a nice surprise. We got right in and sat down. Waitress was friendly and attentive. The decor was on theme and somewhere between authentic and gimmicky. Oversized saws and the like hanging on the way. Wood log walls, the works. First out was the bread, which was so hot it was melting the butter packets beneath it (a good thing IMO). The bread was delicious and we did something we almost never do; ask for more bread. Wife and her grandmother enjoyed their salads, they were petite sized compared to most everything else. Then came the pasta. All dente ziti and marinara sauce. A pleasant surprise it comes with every order (I think.) Then came entrees. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. Refer to the pic below for its massive amount. Yes, it's my breakfast, lunch and dinner for the weekend. Everything seemed to taste fresh, even the pasta. My one complaint is that it wasn't "bland" per say, but definitely not sweet or spicy enough for my tastes. Could have used a little more... Something. Wife got baked sea scallops and she loved them. That portion size, however, was accurate to most entree expectations. Overall, the atmosphere is local and fun, wait staff was friendly and attentive, the amount of food was well worth it and the wait for things was perfect. Minus one star for: not taking discover cards and the sauce being a little too middle of the road. But it's a great value overall and the fresh food deserves the admiration all its own.
