Yelp calls it "The Blue Highway Cafe", the sign out Front says "Blue Highway Diner" and my mind turned it into "Blue Heaven Diner"because "Blue H" made me think of the Fats Domino song. Let's go with the sign. I recently stopped at Blue Highway Diner ("BHD") for a chili and shredded cheddar hot dog with mustard and chopped onions, and ridged potato chips. BHD also serves breakfast and lunch standards. It's obvious locals love BHD. BHD has inside seating and covered outside picnic tables. The vibe is classic diner - from the long counter with stools, down to the blue and white checkerboard floor. I was going to call it retro, but I think it's just legit "Old School". "You're my boy Blue!" The service was friendly. In addition, even though I arrived shortly before they closed, they took care in expertly grilling my hot dog bun. I appreciated that level of care. Although the hot dog was decent, the grilled bun was the highlight. The dog was a split and grilled Hummel. It was cooked well, but I've had a series of great CT hot dogs in the past few months and it suffered by comparison. The chili sauce didn't speak to me. I didn't notice a lot of meat and the seasoning was just OK. The other toppings were pretty good, but there were so many toppings, the bun had some trouble sustaining. Given the friendly and effective service and my impression of the menu, I would definitely return if I was driving towards Clinton and craved diner fare. I probably just wouldn't order a hot dog. This place may look unassuming from the road but it serves up a nice lunch. The menu has some nice surprises. Like a "texas tommie" that my partner enjoyed. Went here by mistake. Initially we had planned to visit another breakfast place, but it was closed. So some locals advised us to visit the Blue Highway! As they say, the locals are never wrong! This place is awesome. We were welcomed by a friendly, well-spoken waitress who asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside. The weather was good so we took the outdoor table. The menu is great! Lot of breakfast options and good prices. They have a special menu (check my pictures) and I was surprised to see such low prices. Low price, high quality! We ordered Veggie Omlette, Eggs Benedict and 2 eggs over medium + side of bacon (so crispy, delicious). Everything was delicious. The waitress remembered every customization requested by us and conveyed it to the chef who made it perfect to our liking. Such restaurants make their customer's life easy. If you have a nice experience at the breakfast/brunch, you become happy and your full day goes well. I don't mind going there again when I drive to CT or NYC. read more

Was originally going somewhere else on our family outing day but the line was over an hour long. Decided that would wreck the time table. We stopped in here instead. Quaint little roadside dinner doesn't look like much but the food was pretty good. I had a breakfast of hash eggs home fries and rye toast. My wife the eggs Benny with home fries. My daughter the breakfast sandwich with hollandaise sauce. All in all it was good meal would return if in the area. read more

Cute little hole in the wall. I have been here a few times now on our weekend beach trips. I like the food and old fashioned ambiance. The staff is always friendly. Today was a bit of a bummer. I asked about something on the menu (a wrap) and was told 'I don't know what is in it'. And then she just stared at me. So I picked something else that I already knew I liked. She did not try to ask anyone else, even though we were the only guests. She also did not ask us about anyones sides. She picked our sides. I am hoping she is just new, but even so. Learn basic customer service skills and know the menu!! There are not that many items where it would be overwhelming. She never even told us her name. I will definitely still be back, but will hopefully get a more informed, courteous waitress. read more

We went for breakfast yesterday. It was pretty busy, and the waitress assisted us in about 5 minutes. They had specials and regular menu. I had a very well prepared and reasonable breakfast sandwich recently. The specials were similar in offerings and price (8-10 dollars) to other in town and we wanted an omelet and wanted to try the hash mentioned in several reviews. The sausage and cheese omelet was nice and their breads were outstanding. However the potatoes run of the mill cooked frozen spuds, and the hash was inedible. The hash as corned beef but was dry and crumbly and tasteless. The coffee so so. On balance go for the $5 breakfast sandwich that was great. the rest we tried no to next time. read more

This little hole on the wall diner is incredible! I had the #1 salad with added fresh jalapeños and a side of potato salad. Soooooooo good.

You walk in and it's adorable it's like the fifties and sixties but the floor was filthy the tables were nice and clean and the window sills were clean but lunch starts at 11 it says homemade soup and I watched him pull Campbell's from the shelf and that's what I got was Campbell's Soup microwaved not heated up in a pot and the chicken breasts must have been frozen cuz it was tough as a doornail the sourdough bread was thin thin thin and could not chew it.
