Based on the previously posted reviews and the eclectic menu, we decided to have breakfast at the Daily Slate on a Tuesday morning. There were only two tables occupied on our arrival and our soon to be server told us to sit where ever we wished. My wife soon settled on bananas foster French toast while I found myself in a quandary, corned beef hash or Turkish eggs (Cilbir)? Decisions, decisions. I asked our server for her recommendation and with little hesitation she responded hash. The French toast proved to be a sizable portion, a pair of 3 inch slices of bread with grilled bruleed banana and warm rum caramel. Tasted good, but too much for my lady who failed to take even a nibble out of the second piece of toast. I also was amazed by the portion size of the corned beef hash that was served over seasoned arugula, topped with a trio of juicy eggs and 1/2 of an avocado along with a side of unneeded sourdough toast. I a barely able to finish half before crying out "no mas". I, known in many circles as Mr. Frugal, decided to take the remainder of mine home even though it was a bit too dry with minimal flavor. As it turned out, a tasting the next day proved to be quite good so I happily finished the remainder for lunch. Meanwhile my dining companion chose to depart empty handed due to caloric concerns. Daily Slate is a new breakfast/ lunch spot in Southington that has been getting a lot of attention over its oversized French Toast offerings but let me tell you, this restaurant has so much more to offer. Got the corn beef hash skillet while the wife got the loaded baked potato skillet special. The corned beef hash was exceptional! Hearty chunks of corned beef mixed with hash browns topped with egg, arugula, and fresh avocado. Loved it. The loaded baked potato skillet was essentially home fries topped with sour cream, cheddar cheese, chives, and bacon topped with eggs. Wife got it without bacon but it was also exceptional. Great dish. The surprise was the in-house spicy marmalade and fig jam. I am not an orange marmalade fan, but I tried it because it was made in-house. Amazing, like no marmalade I have tried. The spice note really puts this over the top. Our server was very attentive and made sure all of our needs were met. All in all a great breakfast experience! A must try! read more

Absolutely impressed! I stopped by the Daily Slate for the first time this weekend, and immediately fell in love with their menu. I opted for the Turkish eggs, which were fabulous. The sauce is a garlicky yogurt, which pairs perfectly with the eggs and mint. I never had Turkish eggs before, but this a new breakfast obsession for me. Our server recommended taking the leftover sauce home to prepare my own eggs with, which was not only genius but delicious as well. I hesitate to write this review because I love that I got there at 11am on a Saturday (peak brunch time) and I had my choice of table, but this place is FANTASTIC. When this place gets crazy busy, it'll suck for me, but they totally deserve it. The menu had so many interesting and delicious-sounding things that I want to try! I ended up getting the corned beef hash skillet and a daily special iced latte. My husband got the daily special BLT and a regular coffee. I'm kind of a corned beef hash snob. I LOVE a good corned beef hash, but I'm also easily disappointed. If you don't care about corned beef hash, feel free to skip the next section. This was the most flavorful corned beef hash I've ever had. And if that wasn't enough, it came with 3 "soft" (poached) eggs (my ideal accompaniment), a little fresh salad (arugula? -not sure, I ate it too fast, along with a homemade dressing), and what I now know has been missing from this dish all my life - avocado! This is the kind of dish that I kind of hate eating when I go to a restaurant for the first time. It's so damn good that I know I'm going to want to get it the next time I go. But the menu has so many other delicious sounding things that I also want to try so I'm going to be so conflicted. But that's a problem for another time! Anyhow, my ridiculous Nutella iced mocha was exactly as delicious as I had hoped. Not overly sweet either. My husband's coffee was actually QUALITY coffee- not that watered down facsimile for coffee that you often encounter at breakfast joints. His BLT was thick with thick sliced bacon, and very flavorful. After one bite, he declared, "______ is out!" (referencing our previous regular breakfast spot). Yep, it's true. This place leaves the other ones in the dust. I'm looking forward to many more delicious meals here. I'm fully expecting this place to blow up once people know about it so I suggest you go now while they're still relatively unknown. It was SO good. We tried this place for lunch recently. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by staff. The place was almost empty at lunchtime. Quite a change from the previous owners. The decor was non- existent. Very spare except for a large blackboard with specials on it. The menu looked interesting. My friend had the hash and eggs and said it was delicious. I ordered the Turkish eggs with labneh, as labneh is one of my favorite foods. I found it watery, sour, and inedible. Graciously the server took it back and I reordered scrambled eggs. They were pale and tasteless, as were the accompanying potatoes. The ciabatta roll ( at an up charge of 50 cents) was great. I was impressed with our server who was accommodating and cheerful. I wish the chef the best at improving his cooking- but I won't be returning. read more

The best breakfast I've had in a very long time. I had the hash skillet and my husband had the fireside omelette. Both were outstanding! The omelette had so much bacon that he didn't even eat the side order of bacon. The portions are huge! We ordered the Brazilian cheese bread and it was phenomenal! It comes with 2 different spreads and I've never had anything like the Calabrian orange. It had a slight kick but was delicious. Even the coffee was exceptional'. I would highly recommend! read more

They were even so considerate of my little one and brought her food first we got the French omelette, chilaquiles, fresh fruit and a pancake for my little. What a treat! We had an amazing late breakfast at this new restaurant that I suspect will become part of our family's regular rotation! We started the meal with piping hot, melt-in-your-mouth beignets! I had the cilbir (Turkish eggs), which were warm and garlicky with perfectly poached eggs, served with a toasty warm pita. My son had the berries and cream giant French toast with a generous heap of fresh berries and drizzled with a creamy vanilla sauce. Came here when they first opened a year ago everything was great. I don't know if it's new ownership but everything is different. I got the chicken and waffles and the chicken wasn't even fried it looked sautéed and didn't come with enough sriracha sauce. My girlfriend got the Chicken Cesar croissant. It was full of lettuce and barely any chicken in their. The chicken was very rubbery. Service was okay but the place was completely empty and I still had to wait for my waitress to come over to our table so we could get more sauce. This place fell off completely. read more
