Our trip here was truly what the family and I needed. Having issues with the house, we needed to get out and find a place to grab breakfast. A quick google search brought up Yelps top ten Diners in Meriden and what brought my attention to Huxley's was how open and spacious the layout was in the pictures. So glad we choose to try it out... Jamie was an incredible waitress from beginning to end. We had questions from the menu because it was our first time and we wanted to make some substitutions. Not a problem and every thing was right! Not only were our orders exactly how we imagined them, the food came out before we knew it! We made a joke while eating that we would've still been waiting if we had gone anywhere else. Extra lemons for our waters and hot fresh coffee when we ran out, Jamie was truly aware of not only us but her other guests needs as well. The menu had us deep in thought because we wanted to try everything. We love a good omelette so I knew either way we were ordering one. Made to order and it was exactly what my girlfriend was craving. The fried egg sandwich with ham and bacon on a roll was on point with delicious freshly made home fries. French toast was made to perfection for us to share so we could get a little bit of everything. This was truly an incredible experience that we'll not only be back again for ourselves but when we have family visiting and need somewhere accommodating for larger parties. This has to be the brightest, cleanest looking place I've been in for a long time. We went for breakfast-most was just your average breakfast fare in both look and taste. Though my brother had a pistachio muffin that was extraordinary. The display of house made muffins on display when you first walk in is pretty darn good looking. I got a corned beef hash, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito with home fries. How can that even be bland? The hash was minimal, and was not house made. Went today with my daughter and husband for his birthday, my daughter suggested Huxley's. We have not been there for years, so we decided to go, asked a few questions regarding the menu server did not know and went to ask in the kitchen. I ordered two eggs over medium whites must be dry, ham, corn, fries, coffee toast, the first set of eggs. The whites were runny which grosses me out re-ordered again and they came back running again. This is a very basic request and I can never go back there if they can't make it over medium egg with dry whites I'm not sure who is cooking there so that is the end it was not in expensive as no restaurant right now. I probably won't return here. First the coffee was like drinking brown water. It was just so watered down. My order was wrong, I preferred over medium and I got over easy, the waitress forgot my home fries I had to remind her. Home fries lacked flavor. I heard Sunday's was really busy so we came on a Saturday and our device felt rushed. Overall wasn't warm and welcoming not even when we arrived. Lastly the prices didn't match the menu. Our 222 combo said $12.50 but they charged 13.00. My cappuccino was $4.25 on menu and we were charged $6.25, home fries were $4.25 on menu and we got charged $5.00. Overall food is average, service not the greatest. It is nice and clean inside and cute and plenty of parking only positive thing I can say. read more

This is a huge restaurant/ diner. Big grand piano sitting in center of room. Large dining area with booths and counter service. First off, I was disappointed that no one was playing at the piano on a Saturday morning visit. Service was prompt but not particularly friendly as they were hustling to move tables in my opinion. I ordered the Encyclopedia breakfast which is basically a hungry man meal. French toast was average, sausage over cooked, home fries were bland. Nothing stood out. I went to Huxley bookmark Café on a Friday morning. I sat at the countertop. The restaurant is large and very beautiful. I was hoping to get pumpkin pancakes however, they do not have them. The waitress suggested the apple cinnamon pancakes. They were delicious. The apples were cut up into tiny little cubes and lots of flavor throughout the pancakes. I was very happy with my order. They are open daily for breakfast and lunch. I would highly recommend trying it out. read more

I was staying nearby as part of Independent Bookstore weekend, and Huxley's Bookmark Cafe was a perfect thematic addition! There are books gracing the walls without feeling overwhelming... But boy do you want to peak at the titles. The building is light and nondescript, and the "Huxley's" dominates the sign. There are booth and table seatings, with a good sized menu. We went on a Sunday, and were seated right next to the amazing piano player - not only was his selection interesting, he was at a perfect volume not to hinder conversation. went here the other day and it was absolutely packed at 11:00 am on a tuesday! it was definitely understaffed waiter wise because we saw only waitress once for the drinks and didn't see her for another 15 minutes to place our order. i ended up getting the 2x2x2 combo with the texas french toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon. the texas french toast was definitely yummy, but the scrambled eggs were sad and didn't really taste like anything, i added salt and pepper which made it better. my boyfriend got a corn hash, bacon, and onion omelette which he really enjoyed it, it came with home fries that were just okay. i don't think we would return considering how expensive it is for a lower quality meal (excluding the omelette and french toast). it was always confusing on where to pay because people were coming in to be seated, picking up online orders, and paying for their bill all in the same place, it was a bit unorganized. i was always so sad seeing the specials they had while checking out, the waitress never mentioned them and I totally would've got one of the specials instead! read more

This is such a unique, cozy spot. When we went there, there was a guitarist playing the classics while we ate breakfast. The place is humming with energy, and the servers are great. Could the food be a little better? Yeah sure. But the rest of the experience makes it worth it. read more

My wife got a turkey club with turkey that had gone bad, sent it back, management said it was fine, huffed and walked away. Another time I was early for breakfast, got waited on for beverage and said I was waiting for a friend, when my friend who happened to be Black arrived the server stopped waiting on us and refused to come to our table, another one pitched in to finish up with us, management didn't care. Then things changed.. We were sat immediately but our waitress didn't arrive for quite some time. The food came out super fast, but just as fast, we were disappointed. The coleslaw was the best thing about this club. My club didn't have bacon on it, the Turkey was shredded. The pickle tasted like a cucumber that was newly washed in vinegar. This was my breakfast/ lunch and we had places to be so I ate it but I didn't love it. The fries were pretty good so that was a plus. My husband's breakfast was not great either. The eggs were incredibly flat and placed on unseasoned hash browns. The French toast was basic, but we literally didn't get the fruit until we got the check.. so that was off-putting. Also.. that all came to $37 somehow. We weren't impressed at all. I've eaten here on my last few visits to Meriden. Love the breakfast sandwich and the Chapala hot sauce for the Home fries. When you ask for hot sauce, they'll try to give you chicken wing sauce. Ask for the Lago de Chapala, the one with a scarf and sombrero. You won't be disappointed read more

Joe B and I caught a delicious Sunday brunch last weekend. After arriving a little after 11am, we waited about 15 minutes to be seated at a booth. It's first come first serve, where everyone is waiting in the main area. It's a little stressful that there's no actual list, but they do a good job knowing the order in which people arrived. Huxley's is definitely a cozy spot, though I did find the worn out nature of most of the furniture less endearing than other Yelpers mention. That being said, our waitress was super chill and made us feel like we were truly in someone's home grabbing a good meal. I went for the special French toast (on a croissant) with sausage and two eggs, and Joe's original request was out, but he ended up going for 2x2x2 with kielbasa. And side of corned beef hash! - one of my faves, and they did it with a perfect crispiness. Very satisfying meal. Lots to choose from in the menu, so good luck with that! read more
