One of my favorite breakfast specials at Paul's. They were nice enough to put it on the specials one month per our request. Very good and friendly service regularly. It's a classic diner setting with many booths and tables. Usually staffed with a few waitresses. Classic diner menu but they do sprinkle in Spanish specials regularly. The diner can easily be missed driving on Highland Ave as it is tucked in between a gas station and a neighboring car wash. Plenty of private parking. Check it out for yourself. read more

Honestly, I'm not sure why this place has such a low rating. We've been going here for breakfast almost every Sunday for the past few years. The food is always exceptional and they have the best most fluffy, delicious pancakes around. The homefries are also great with onions mixed in and seasoned nicely with paprika and the omelets are big. Overall, the portions are great. We've always had wonderful service and the wait staff are very pleasant. Maybe the people who have service issues are not so nice themselves; there's a lot of entitled people in the world. My husband loves the grande breakfast, and it's just that...huge! The restaurant is always clean and there is a mix of booths, tables and counter seating. Although I will say that the proximity of the counter to the stool is a little far away so I don't recommend the counter seats if you have low back issues. Today is Father's Day and the kitchen was cranking to get the food out as quickly as possible. We love this place. read more

Headed down to Cheshire to do some errands. 1st stop - breakfast. Paul's is a solid 4. Parking is in the rear, so that when we saw the restaurant from the street with no cars, it was a bit of a concern. However, around back - a full parking lot. There looked to be a few tables with umbrellas outside too. Inside, it was nice and comfortable. Looked like a place that large local groups gather too. The food was really good. I had something on the special menu - Greek Quiche made with feta, spinach, tomato & pepper. A side of fresh fruit came with it. My husband had his usual western omelette which he enjoyed. My first time at Paul's Restaurant and it had everything I look for in a diner. They sever breakfast and lunch and have a large menu with specials. My bacon cheese omelette came packed with bacon and cheese. The home fries were one of the best I ever had. Well seasoned and crispy. The coffee came in a large mug not the small diner cup, and refills came without asking. Food came out quickly and hot. The restaurant was immaculate. I've been to Paul's restaurant a few times. One thing I've noticed about each time is the piss poor attitudes of every single waitress. The food is always pretty good but when it sits in the window for 10+ minutes by the time the waitress gives it to you, it's cold. When I go I give it hope that a waitress would treat you with some human decency but every time, let down. For example, today our waitresses attitude was as if we were a hardship for her to serve, mind you, she might have had two other tables to attend to so as a former sever, id tell you that's beyond easy. When she finally served our food she shoved her arm in my face to reach my mother's table, then set my plate down on my hand. When you're that miserable, it's time to rethink your career, especially at that grown age. read more

I went here for the first time on a very busy morning. We were sitting for approximately 5 minutes before the waitress came over to take our order and we hadn't even opened our menus yet. She proceeded to come over every 3 minutes until we finally felt pressured to order. I'm not sure if this is the normal way they do things or if it was just a busy day and they were trying to get people in and out. I would consider this a typical diner. They serve breakfast all day and many other lunch options also. My friends ordered a typical breakfast. Nothing spectacular but a good filling meal, but sadly the eggs were cold. I ordered a wrap with fries. The wrap was decent but the fries were undercooked. This restaurant is always busy so I'm not sure if it was just an off day or limited options in the neighborhood. Good stuff! Came in here with a big party right after Father's Day, on Juneteenth, and was quickly seated at a table easily big enough for all of us. Despite a bunch of kids and special asks and such, everything was taken care of easily and everything came out just perfectly. Delicious food all around and the kids were excited to have some "real food" breakfast instead of eating what was laid out in the hotels for the previous couple of weeks on our cross-country trip! I cannot believe I had never been here before as I have passed by this place a million times! Recently stopped by for lunch with my mother while in the area and we were both pleased. Although once a practicing vegan/vegetarian--I opted for the burger special with avocado and chipotle with sweet potato fries. I was so happy to be able to order the burger cooked just as I like--MR. My mother ordered the steak with mushrooms, onions and cheese on a hard roll. There are plenty of vegan/vegetarian options available on menu and daily specials are listed. The restaurant was hopping. Service was prompt and most friendly--food came super fast. Portions were generous. Cole slaw was delicious and prices are reasonable. We left stuffed! It was a tad chilly--but other than that this seems like a solid place to visit for good food and I look forward to going again. read more

I've been here more times than I count; it's close to where I work. I've been to Paul's for both breakfast and lunch. When I go out to lunch with business partners/vendors, we'll often to head Paul's. More often than not, they'll request we go there the next time we get together. I haven't had a bad meal here or bad service. I'm somewhat surprised by the negative reviews. Also, the place is always fairly busy; especially during the lunch hour. Being busy tends to be a good sign that a place is doing something correctly. Paul's was recently purchased by a non-Paul, but they kept the name. To me, it's been a seamless transition. Same menu, same wait staff...same everything. I've ordered a number of different meals here from regular ol' breakfast items to lunch specials. Everything has been good. I often have good luck with the specials which rotate fairly frequently. With lunch, they usually give you a choice of sides if you don't want fries. You can order off the breakfast menu if you go for lunch. The service here is always friendly and attentive. Most of the waitresses have been there for at least a few years. Again, I like Paul's. I never allow for low reviews to scare me away from what may truly end up being an amazing experience at any given location and so I came to see as to why this establishment received only 2.5 stars out of 5. Where did they go wrong and would I notice any significant changes upon my arrival? Paul's Restaurant is what I would call a staple in the community for they had that old school vibe and the customers within, you could easily tell that they have been coming here for years. When you have that type of loyalty, this only means certain dishes are automatically the "go to" but unfortunately from the reviews alone, I would never truly know what those dishes are and so I played it safe; simply ordered kielbasa, white toast, scrambled eggs with cheese, home fries, french fries and a grilled cheese sandwich. While sitting and looking around, I can say upfront that this location only needs some TLC...Just some attention to the floors if nothing else and a hit of some minwax on the tables and chairs, from their local Home Depot. Something to take it from the old classic look, to an old classic look that has been touched up with care and pride. My food had arrived and I can say that it looked good, I was ready to dig in! You can not mess up toast and so it wasn't burnt but crispy and golden with some strawberry spread BITE BACK.......Moved over to the fries and though they could had been in the fryer a bit longer, they were ok after I hit them with a little bit of salt. I was curious about the grilled cheese for it was staring me down and so I took a bite and the bread they chose to use had hella crunch to it, with that good ol american cheese and buttery bliss that was absorbed in my toasted up bread, I am around for it. My Kielbasa did not disappoint at all! Snap back on the skin, tender chew chew with enormous smoked up pork flavor to speak its name amidst the mountains just to hear its echo. The home fries were alright, nothing magical at Disney with the Family but something to help coat the stomach, to rid you of those hunger pains but my eggs were a pile up disaster on any busy interstate; just bad. Why were they so dry? Who made you this way Boo? I don't like dry eggs and spam..I don't like them at all. Not in a house, not with a mouse. Not on a plane nor in a car, keep those dry raggedy eggs away from me and VERY FAR! Great coffee and delicious salad (mesclun mix and other fresh ingredients!). The service was great and I sat at the "bar" area, they were polite and fastidious. I ordered a few things and sat for an hour, just enjoying my time. My only complaint is the Greek omelet doesn't have tomatoes, which took away from the flavor. This is by far one of the best all round breakfast restaurants in the state. The atmosphere is unbelievably comfortable and homelike and the food delicious beyond words. The entire staff is friendly and truly always smiling. A special shout out to Mercedes and Sharad who are more than charming and delightful. They have a great breakfast menu with prices that are so reasonable. Even the music is perfect. If you are looking for a great breakfast restaurant, then be sure you visit Paul's. This is my oldest daughters favorite restaurant so we're here pretty often. She loves the Mickey Mouse pancake, and I usually get one of the specials. I tried the crab cake Benedict last time and this time the chicken and waffles... both times I was not disappointed!! The food is amazing. No, definitely NOT the best place for breakfast in Cheshire. Perhaps, the most expensive and most overrated place in Cheshire, but not the best. Paul's has been here for some time and may have once had some notoriety, but the owner (Paul) is quite comfortable with his previous reputation and could care little about what he delivers today. His food is marginal at best and the Omar coffee that he serves tastes like he is using recycled oil from the auto shop next door. Truly the worst cup of coffee you will ever drink. The omelets are acceptable, but at almost $9 a pop, you would think that you are dining in Manhattan, not some 80s era carryover. If there is anything that stands out here it is the home fries. Unfortunately, the coffee will so badly tarnish your mouth and the prices will so badly tarnish your savings, you may be so traumatized to enjoy the home fries. Cheshire is slim on dining options, but you may be better served at a Dunkin Donuts or heading up to Route 322 in Southington. read more

BEST OF THE WORST - In a Town with a very dismal restaurant scene, the once thriving Paul's must be trying to win the "best of the worst" award. What was once a well known breakfast spot for many locals has now succumbed to time and new owners. Unfortunately, nothing has improved with time or change. The restaurant is as tired as the staff is incompetent and tone deaf. The food is borderline inedible. Clean food preparation is a foreign concept here. As an example, I watched my salad sit on the counter for 10 minutes today as staff members divied up their tips from the tip jar directly over it and then formed nice little stacks of bills all around the plate. I guess they figured old sweaty stale dollar bills would add a bit of flavor on top. As predictable as clocks, no one seemed to think it was a problem or try and offer an apology after I refused to accept the plate. Paul's may have been a place where "who's who came to chew".....unfortunately, it is now overrun by inept staff with no respect for food quality of the customers. This place is pretty typical. If we want standard breakfast or a BLT, and we happen to be in Cheshire, we'll come here. Overall, nothing special but nothing terrible. However, this has all changed now that I have tried their (apparently famous) veggie burger. I am not exaggerating how delicious it is. It is literally the best veggie patty I have ever had, and I've had my fair share. It is actually tasty, and not just in a I'm trying to eat healthy so I guess this is pretty good kind of way. It is legit. Apparently they ship out these patties to other restaurants in Central CT, and some towards the shore, and now I know why. It is moist and has a blend of spices that I can't put my finger on, and has been bugging me ever since. Paul's is great. My most favorite dish is the Pasta Fagioli. Wow it's really good, really good. I love their salads especially the pear salad and the blackened chicken salad. Breakfast is really good as well. The Apple Fritter French toast is out of the world. Home fries are my favorite. My only complaint recently was the Florentine omelet. I'm kind of a nit picker when it comes to spinach. There is absolutely no reason to use frozen spinach. Fresh spinach is cheaper and really easy to cook (a little olive oil on the flat top, spinach in a thin layer, salt and pepper, and it cooks real fast). Paul's is great. It's where Cheshire movers and shakers eat lunch. You will always find a local doctor, lawyer, politician, or business owner here. The staff has not changed in years which is pleasant. It's sad to say that I truly believe today was our last time at Paul's. I've been going to Paul's for just about 30 years and some of the best memories I have with my family were made at Paul's. There is no quality control and it's like playing roulette every time we go in...sometimes the food is good, and sometimes I literally have to question how the plate was ever allowed to leave the window looking like it does. Most of the servers are warm and welcoming which we absolutely appreciate, but when the breakfast I make at home is better than what I'm paying $30 for, it's time to chalk it up as a loss and venture to neighboring towns for a good, consistent breakfast. I don't like saying that "Paul's was better when Paul was running it," but it's an unfortunate truth. The menu hasn't changed or been added to (which is another head scratcher), but the care and quality that went into every plate when Paul was at the helm is gone. The only reason the place gets packed on the weekend is because it's really the only place in town where you can sit down and have breakfast. I've been here 3 times and been disappointed every time. Once I got an eggplant panini. The eggplant was ok, but the panini was so tough I could hardly cut it with a steak knife. And it was way to messy to eat as a sandwich. then I came for an omelette. It was supposed to have cheese, I couldn't tell if it did. It was the most tasteless omelette I'd ever had. They burnt the toast and I had to wait forever for new toast. And the "hash browns" are just frozen cut up potatoes thrown under the broiler. No onions, no flavor. The 3rd time, I just got fries and a soda. The large soda was really small and the fries were soggy. The waitresses are really nice and efficient. But I'm never going back read more
