There is a sign on the wall at Henry's that talks about home cooking. Outside I saw another sign pointing to comfort food. Those are perhaps two of the best ways to describe Henry's. He is super friendly. The food super good. It's a small quaint restaurant in the heart of Wallingford that could, if I'm being honest, use a bit of tidying up. Tromped around the Quinnipiac trail with family on an pre-spring Sunday and found Henry's to open. Gave it a shot and worth it. Very homey, welcoming, good place for kids. Corned beef hash was special that day and really good with all-day breakfast at 3 pm. Didn't bother with dinner that night, still filled up. Would go back if in the area again. read more

It's fantastic. Henry is this sweet older man with such an effervescent quality to his personality. He was doing everything- cooking, waiting, making conversation. Just a sweet soul putting out good eats. There were only two other people in there when I went so it was quiet, comfortably warm (even while sitting by a window), no muss no fuss. The food was delicious. I got a turkey club, my mom got the steak sandwich- both were fab. Best turkey club I've had in a very long time. Yikes. Henry's gives me the same vibe as Scotty's - both in Wallingford. The floor and table were sticky. The placemat (paper) was seemingly reused. We were pestered by a gnat or 3. The waitress seemed like she didn't like her job. The minute I sat down, she asked if We were ready to order. Weird that by 9AM one of their specials was already 86ed. Not that I would have chosen it... My go to breakfast dish is an eggs Benedict-that's how I decide how good the restaurant is. When I read how they make theirs-with cheese sauce instead of hollandaise, I have to say No. I chose the 2 eggs over medium, rye toast and crispy bacon. The eggs were covered in butter and not fully cooked. The "toast" was not toasted. When I asked for a napkin I was told I already had one. Yep, the one I had was dirty. $25 for a not good breakfast was a real bummer. Do not recommend. read more

I love this restaurant! I'm from outside of Boston so this was my first time here. My family and I were looking for a place to eat breakfast at around 3, and most of our options were closed. We came in and were surprised to see no customers, but we stayed! The sweetest employee (Pia) helped us out, she gave us our drinks and sat us down. She was bubbling and super sweet :) She cooked our breakfast and I don't know if I was just really hungry but the food was DELICIOUS! I am a big cafe hopper and I always get omelettes, and that was by far the best omelette I think i've ever had - bacon ham and spinach omelette. Like MOUTHWATERING! Just had breakfast at Henry's used to be to go to a place for food. I wouldn't ask my worst enemy to go there. I got a child size portion. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food for absolutely nothing the three egg omelette look like one egg three bites and it's gone. Never mind that it sits under a heat lamp and lukewarm when I went in there to pay (we ate outside) there was another kids meal sitting underneath the heat lamp and she was busy, chattering at socializing with the customers . I pass by all the time and wanted to try this place for a while. It has a high Yelp rating (though no Elites) so figured it would be better than decent. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the current rating. As I sat and waited for my friend to get there, I felt the urge to get up and leave. I should've listened to my gut, it's almost always correct. My friend always gets the Benedict when we go someplace new. When I saw it was topped with cheddar cheese sauce I got a sinking feeling. She wound up not getting the Benedict for that reason and instead went safe with two over easy eggs, rye toast. The eggs were greasy/buttery and underdone. It was not hot, likely sat waiting for my dish to be done. The pictures of the pies on Yelp look so good. The sign outside said strawberry shortcake. I was looking forward to something sweet. There was nothing sweet to be had. No pies. No muffins. No shortcake. I ordered the Tuscan grilled vegetable skillet. I didn't get Tuscan veggies or a skillet. It only had 3 pieces of potato. Found Henry's the day after 4th of July when we couldn't find a single breakfast place open. We walked in and were greeted warmly by a gentleman who was cooking and the server. He was so friendly and just seemed like he was really enjoying himself. We ordered the eggs benedict and chicken and waffles. Our food came out in a timely manner and was fresh. I had never had eggs Benny with cheddar cheese but I enjoyed it. My bf and I often get two different dishes and split them so I got to also try the chicken and waffles and it was also enjoyable. My wife and myself, along with my elderly mother stopped in at 5pm on a Wednesday. The place was totally empty. We all ordered the chicken pot pie because we had heard how good they were. The owner also said he had just made them. The food was terrible, the pot pies were more like burnt pea soup with a "toast topper" . No crust at all like a real pot pie. Ordered scrambled eggs, white toast, home fries and bacon. Toast was not toasted, bacon was rubbery as it was sitting for a few hours, eggs were not scrambled, they were dry and omelet like. Home fries were OK. IT was 9am and only 2 other customers, not like it was busy. The owner sits at a table with his laptop. He took my order and pretty much left the food and sat at the table and not attend to the food. You can see the end result of wanting to use his laptop and not pay attention to the customer. You would think the owner who is also the 'chef' would have asked what was wrong with the food when a customer has a plateful of food untouched. He just handed me the check and cashed me out. Came here on a Saturday morning with a large group of people. Decided on this place for breakfast after searching Yelp for a breakfast place that takes reservations on a Saturday morning...and had good reviews. After finding the location, someone else handled the reservations and she said the person she talked to was really nice and accommodating. Menu was solid diner fare for breakfast and lunch, but the specials list was quite long and added numerous options to breakfast (more omelettes, dresses up pancakes, steak and eggs). Our table got all breakfast items, including poached eggs, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, skillets, and pancakes. The pancakes were the biggest crowd pleaser, but all the other breakfast items were enjoyed. The only sense of confusion was with the listed Sweet potato fries on the specials. We imagined fries that were sweet potato; what came out was more like sliced sweet potato that was not baked to a crisp and had marshmallow sauce a top. In a word... no.. The floor is not just dirty, it's sticky. Menu is limited, prices are mediocre, and the food is BAD. The bacon is thick, but fatty and chewy because it's undercooked. The home fries are blackened potatoes. The omelette was completely uncooked inside and a river of raw egg flower out when it was cut. The coffee comes in a nice mug, but it was luke warm at its best. Sent the omelette back and they just put it back on the grill which, although it did finish cooking the inside, it left the outside very well done. AND they returned it in a new plate missing the pile of home fries. I honestly don't know if I'm more put off by the undercooked did or the fact that the owner has a full beard and wears nothing to keep hair out of the food while he cooks No apologies, nothing discounted, and we ended up going home and had our breakfast there after doing almost $30 here. read more

We just moved to Wallingford about two months ago. We've been scoping out the restaurant scene. If you like Mickey D and the like, there's plenty of that. Not for us though. We've driven by Henry's several times, always saying, "Hey, we gotta give that place a try one day." So, one day last week, our usual breakfast place in North Haven was closed for vacation. So now we decide to give Henry's a try. We have breakfast on Saturday. We come back for breakfast on Sunday. We come back for breakfast on Monday. Now we are having dinner on Friday. And we will most likely have breakfast here tomorrow, even though our regular place is now back from vacation. That should give you an idea of what we think of Henry and Henry's. Henry is very friendly, a very attentive chef and host. The food is epic-level good. The steak tips dinner was amazing. It didn't need any additional seasoning. And the blue cheese dressing scratched that itch that Chuck's Steakhouse first gave me with their blue cheese dressing from 50 plus years ago. Even though we have eaten in restaurants from Golden Arches to Michelin 3 star, and Henry's definitely is toward the French Laundry end of the spectrum than The Creepy Clown Place. 1-20-18 On an early morning errand with my son, we decided to try Henry's for breakfast. I hadn't walked through the door of this place for several years since it had changed hands several times. Anyway, we got a warm reception from the one server upon entering, and sat at a table. It's not a large establishment, so one waitress is adequate, and there were only two other tables occupied. After looking over the specials menu, I decided on steak, eggs, home fries, & English muffin. I also ordered up a grapefruit juice. My son had a farm omelette also with spuds & toast. He made mention that it was made with fresh mushrooms, and said it was excellent. The eggs I had were cooked as ordered, but what was really the gem of this breakfast was the top shelf steak, the best breakfast steak in memory. Overall, a terrific breakfast for both of us. Service was spot on, very warm & friendly. So why not five stars? One word: cost. $34.00+ for 2, BEFORE tip, for breakfast, is pretty pricey in my book, despite the quality steak, and overall great breakfast. read more
