This is one of Wallingford's best kept secrets. Since Covid, the inside is closed, but there are two outdoor picnic benches. I've always gone here for the breakfast sandwiches, but the lunch options are great as well! I usually get the bacon, egg, & cheese. You really get your money's worth and it is very reasonably priced. It is cash-only, but definitely worth a trip to the ATM! The owner is very friendly and fast. Highly recommend a visit! read more

I was driving down the road coming back home from my job when I noticed this little breakfast and lunch shop on the corner of a light. I havent eaten since 5:30am so instead of going home to rummage through the fridge, I thought I'd give this place a try. They are a CASH only establishment. The inside is nice, small, and cozy. The woman who took my order was extremely nice and attentive. I got the Sara js burger which came with American (I think) cheese, bacon, grilled onions, spudtatoes on the burger. I actually didnt realize till now that she didnt ask me how i wanted my burger cooked, so hopefully its still juicy. So it just came out and it looks delicious. It looks juicy and the items on the burger look to be a great combination. And wow. This was delicious. The bread is great. Soft with a nice crunch on the outside. The burger was moist, the bacon was cooked to perfection. It was overall just great and a lovely surprise. I will definitely be coming back. And you should try this place out too. read more

Sarah jays in Wallingford should not be Considered a business. They nickel and dime you for everything they do and when inquiring about charges they hang up on you and cancel your order. Buyer beware. Do not waste your time or money. There IS a cost to doing business! They pass the cost right to their customers. Instead of mitigating the cost. They try to blame high prices from their vendors as rationale. The explanation seemed farfetched and INaccurate anyway. I have some familiarity with this as a business owner myself. This is not the problem of a customer but it sounds like they need to better manage their supply accounts and vendors. This can only be summed up by any average consumer and frequent restaurant customer that this is just to charge you more for less. They also do not consider dietary restrictions they just slap a charge on you with no compassion or understanding for any health concerns. With this kind of behavior and tactics I foresee a very large GOING OUT OF BUSINESS sign posted right on their front door...stay tuned for that. Don't give them your business you will regret it. Plenty of parking and it's right next to the park . Small in size , buy big in flavor. I wanted to try something besides my normal breakfast, so I went with a pancake. This wasn't an ordinary one it was called "The Hubcap" it was giant (3.50) and it was crispy & fluffy just how I like it . They have a great breakfast/lunch menu and the Spud fries intrigued me to come back to try . They have plain, bbq, buffalo, bacon & cheese or chili cheese. The prices are good and the food all smells amazing when you walk in . They have two big windows with bar stools to have a view while you're eating. Donuts are usually ready by 11 a.m. and you could call and ask what the flavor of the day is . Can't wait to come back to update my review I only stopped in for a bit. read more

Heard amazing things about this place from my massage therapist. Went for breakfast at 10 AM. Place was empty. There's one table with 3 chairs under a small wall mounted tv and then 6 stools along the counters that face the windows. There's NO bathroom. First off, they were out of pancake mix. I am not sure how you can be a breakfast place with a very limited menu and run out of any of the items on your menu. They do not offer you water for your table-- and have a refrigerator with a limited selection of drinks- bottled water, Coke and diet Coke, Pepsi and Arnold Palmer. No bottled juice. The food we did get was delicious (hence the 3 stars). I got the mushroom and onion omelette which comes with home fries and toast for $6. The home fries were the same chunky potato kind you get at most places but on the menu board it lists that you can get them BBQ, buffalo or bacon and cheese. I also got the French toast which was so incredible-- not sure if it was just some cinnamon and sugar that it is dipped in along with the egg but I devoured it. Food is served on styrofoam plates with plastic silverware-- so the environmentalist in me cringed inwardly as the food came over. I had also heard that this is the place in Wallingford to get cupcakes-- and that they are so good and popular you have to get there early to find any available. Again, we were there at 10 AM today and there were only 5 cupcakes in the display case-- 2 oreo and the other one was some kind of vanilla cake with pinkish red frosting-- there were 3 of those. In the end I am conflicted about this place. I would totally go there again if I knew they would have all the ingredients in stock to make the food they offer. I love cupcakes but if there is no selection available at 10 AM why bother coming later (and I am not going to get up early just to buy cupcakes.) It just seems like the owners aren't really interested in making a profit and developing a local following because they choose not to be prepared for large numbers of customers. read more

I go here often. There ususlly quick with service. They have a great bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich. They make fantastic homefries. They also make them in a 'buffalo' flavor. Just featured recently on NBC30 news, for their Giant steam cheeseburger eating contest, Sara J's knows how to make em, and knows how to sell them! You want something special? Get the extra steam!....It's free! The atmosphere is light and playful, and even though seating is limited, there's nothing wrong with sitting next to a stranger. Strike up a conversation. The walls are board, decorated with license plates and restaurant nostalgia. If you're looking for a fancy place, get your food here and take it someplace fancy. It really hits the spot. The employees, of which I've only ever seen two, are incredibly nice people who go the extra mile to ensure you're happy with your order. They don't forget the little things that many places do, such as napkins and plastic cutlery. The flavor of the food is above average, but I couldn't give it top marks only because I'm a firm believer in the use of spices; something they likely avoid to serve the average customer who may not like such added flavor. The dining area is very small, so if you bring a group of 10+ people, it will overflow into the counter space. I will continue to go to Sara J's.
