Here's a place if you want to save a little money the food is very good for the price if you order a full dinner you get a choice of soup or salad and a piece of pie at the end of your dinner

Best diner around; rarely ever misses. Great breakfast spot as well. Steak and eggs are excellent. Our waitress today was Jackie and she was fantastic. 10/10 always!

I have been here once before... a year ago. My fiancé and her friend decided to meet her for lunch since we were in town for some business. I did not remember my experience from the last time but I agreed to go... well, I was neither impressed or dissatisfied. This place is, I hate to generalize, but a mediocre diner that has been around for a long time. Lots of locals and regulars here. Generally a warm, family feel to this place. The host and the wait staff are friendly and attentive. I would have been glad to give it a 4 star, of the food was a little better. Not horrible, but I guess better not expect the quality of a Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons or Hilton. But at the same time, I am not paying $35 for a buffet either. I tried the salmon benedict. It sounded great on the menu, but the hollandaise sauce was bit too bland. Hollandaise is hard to perfect, but it was good effort but ultimately a bit disappointed Salmon was poached well and with good consistency, not over cooked in so many places. When return to this place, I think I will stick to more basic stuff like fried eggs or pancakes.

Place was ok, down in the area for a baseball game. It's like walking into 1960 (which was pretty cool) The food was nothing special, could've made it at home fries he same way or better. 3 stars for the decor and the service.

I have been here a dozen times over the past 4-6 months & it is ALWAYS CONSISTENTLY GREAT SERVICE, FOOD & AMBIANCE! ! IGNORE the negative reviews! They are likely written by extremely demanding, spoiled & persnickety customers. smh

I was craving my diner, favorite meal of open faced turkey sandwich instead, I ordered the roasted turkey dinner which included mashed potatoes, stuffing cranberry sauce and green beans, delicious and exactly what I was hoping for!!! our waiter was pleasant and prompt. Great service.

With some good and some not-so good, we concluded that we aren't likely to return -- in spite of the really yummy tartar sauce (more on that in a moment). Penny Lane is a bit of an English Pub-style restaurant on two levels. We ate upstairs since the lower level was filled (steps, no elevator that we saw). Service was slow to nonexistent. It took us ten minutes to get recognized by a server who asked if we wanted something to drink and took another five minutes to get it. After we ordered we waited 25 minutes to get our food. We got no drink refills. Maybe service is better in the first floor? Ah, the food. Fish and Chips is essentially pub food, so that's what we got. The crust was light and buttery, quite good. The fish was utterly without any sort of flavor, as bland as could be imagined in your worst imagining. The tartar sauce was super good, but it just couldn't disguise the fact that the fish was tasteless. We also tried the poached egg and corned beef hash, which was ok though the hash was kind ... well, and of a hash, unremarkable at best. Conclusion: There was little that was appealing in our experience. Oh yeah, another ten minutes to get our bill... a long afternoon.

The bar seating was full, but we got right in upstairs at a cozy larger dining room. Service was excellent, professional, and did a great job. The menu was attractive. Lots of different drinks, classic pub food, your typical burgers, and fish and chips kinda stuff. But also a lot of other goodies too. I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with fries. It tasted good, the brioche roll was very fresh. I could have been seasoned more. I wasn't wow'd by it, but it was good. Fries were average, but tasted ok. I think the pricing was reasonable. I would definitely give Penny Lane Pub another try. I'm guessing though in the summer this place is tough to get into, just the vibe I got.

The order of ziti was was bombarded with cheese and the portion size was ENORMOUS! Our table of three shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio to wash it down. Alex was our lovely server. She was personable, friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable about the menu. She worked very hard to please us, while she served others and bussed her own tables. She should be commended for her efforts. The pleasant owner made sure to come around to ask if we were satisfied with our order. Pizza Palace is a definite thumbs up!

I vaguely remembered that there may have been a CT Visit Pizza Trail Top 20 votegetter based in Old Saybrook. I Googled the Trail, and sure enough, Pizza Palace was number 16. I was there about 5 minutes later. PP serves Greek style pizza, but also has seafood, grinders, apps, etc. They have nice inside and outside seating. Service was very good. I ordered a small Scallop and Bacon pizza. My server asked if I wanted it red or white, and I thought it would be interesting to go half and half. The crust was well executed Greek Style. The bacon was good and crispy without being overcooked. The bay scallops were cooked through and perfectly tender. The cheese was well melted and tasty. The white sauce half seemed to have a Bechamel. It wasn't too assertive and complemented the other flavors well. The red sauce half was also very subtle. Pizza Palace definitely makes one of the better CT Greek style pizzas I've had. I really had a lovely experience and I can see why PP is so popular. 4.5 Stars

I recently planned an errand in the general Old Saybrook area so I could try both at Jack Rabbits. I had the vague impression that there may be more than one part to Jack Rabbits. I went to the part that's more of a bar. It was crowded. There was one table open, but I opted for one of the last seats at the bar. If Jack Rabbits isn't quite a dive bar, it's dive-bar-adjacent. There were clearly a lot of area regulars there. The bartenders were all friendly and helpful. They knew the names of a lot of customers. Always a good sign. The thing about trying both the hot dog and wing part of the menu when you're alone, you can't really do a deep dive into either part of the menu. And the depth of the menu, definitely warranted a deep dive. I'll return to try more of the menu with reinforcements next time. I ordered a New York style hot dog, which was served with a split and grilled Hummel as the base. The toppings included sweet pepper relish, mustard, bacon pieces, kraut and onions. There was a lot going on in a way that I enjoyed. The dog was well cooked. They had a number of specialty dogs I'd like to try. I also ordered 8 Sriracha Lime Cilantro wings, and ate four there and brought the rest home for my son. Good flavor. Good texture. Meaty wings at a goods price. My son liked them too. Wing Addicts had another good call. I'll definitely return. 4.5 Stars
