I'm a big wing fan and a big hot dog fan. The Wing Addicts recommend Jack Rabbits for wings, and a restaurant I love recommended them for hot dogs too. I recently planned an errand in the general Old Saybrook area so I could try both at Jack Rabbits. I had the vague impression that there may be more than one part to Jack Rabbits. I went to the part that's more of a bar. It was crowded. There was one table open, but I opted for one of the last seats at the bar. If Jack Rabbits isn't quite a dive bar, it's dive-bar-adjacent. There were clearly a lot of area regulars there. The bartenders were all friendly and helpful. They knew the names of a lot of customers. Always a good sign. The thing about trying both the hot dog and wing part of the menu when you're alone, you can't really do a deep dive into either part of the menu. And the depth of the menu, definitely warranted a deep dive. I'll return to try more of the menu with reinforcements next time. I ordered a New York style hot dog, which was served with a split and grilled Hummel as the base. The toppings included sweet pepper relish, mustard, bacon pieces, kraut and onions. There was a lot going on in a way that I enjoyed. The dog was well cooked. They had a number of specialty dogs I'd like to try. I also ordered 8 Sriracha Lime Cilantro wings, and ate four there and brought the rest home for my son. Good flavor. Good texture. Meaty wings at a goods price. My son liked them too. So... 8 wings + 8 wings + $7 less than mediocre milkshake = close to $40. I ordered my 2 orders of 8 wings... an order of fries (which didn't make it on my order at all) and a $7 milkshake as a surprise for my daughter. When I arrive to pick up my order... no fries (I noticed this when I got home) and my $7 milkshake.... Well it was milk and had clearly been shaken... Certainly won't be going back or recommending Jack Rabbits to anyone anytime in the near future. I'm so sad... their so close to my home and I have loved them... but there are plenty of other options available for the price their asking and the service their providing. Expensive but food and wings are generally good if you can get them to answer the phone. The answering of the phone seems to be an on going problem, there are other reviews complaining about the same thing. Online ordering also not working so that's not an option. Try TJ's around the corner consistently good and they know how to answer the phone. read more

Decent enough burgers but as are many things these days they were very expensive. $50+ tip for two of us with bottled waters and sharing a fry. No liquor license means no beer, which is the best part of a burger and fries. The service seemed agitated with us for some reason, an early 20's woman who seemed super unhappy to be there, though I was as polite as possible hoping to get through the experience. Be careful this place will steal money from you. Wish I could give zero stars. They have a 48 wing choice on the menu that allows you to pick up to, and only up to, 2 different sauces, ( which ok, fine) but if you pick to have 2 different sauces in your 48 wing order they will charge you for 2x24 wing orders , which amounts to 6 dollars more on your bill. That's theft. And then after the theft they didn't even get the order right, substituting one wing sauce for another without notification. Won't be back. Decided to revisit this place while we're on the South Beach diet 'cause I remembered that they offer burgers on salads. I had the veggie burger on a garden salad and my husband had the turkey burger on a garden salad. Both were delicious and moist...my veggie burger did not look like the typical frozen patty that's been slapped on a grill, it was a tasty green patty with tons of different veggies and beans, really good! Our son had two sliders and fries...everyone was totally happy. One thing...they really need to update their menu online. Everything I originally tried to order seemed to be part of the "Storrs" location menu which has closed down. BTW, I have noticed other reviews for this restaurant that are intended for the Rabbit Hole which is the tavern located next door. This place blew our expectations out of the water. We were hesitant to even walk in because my husband and I are pescatarian but the friendly staff advised us they had vegetarian and tuna burgers. One of the best places I've ever eaten at for a quick burger and fries. It is a casual picnic table kind of place. The burger menu was impressive but we just created our own with a mix and match of ingredients from the specialty burgers.
