    Potatoes and eggs
    Kate C.

The baked goods are where it's at here. My daughters and I stopped on a Monday for "breakfast all day" they had eggs and potatoes, and a bec, and a grilled blueberry muffin. I had the Thanksgiving plate and a grilled cornbread. The cornbread is life changing, and as my daughter said when the butter comes looking like ice cream you know it's about to be lit. Our server was super attentive. The meal was super reasonable in price. We had mozz sticks to start which were good but the sauce was meh.

My wife relative said must try restaurant The Shack, they have three locations. They serve breakfast all day and full menu. There knowing dish is breakfast dish The Kitchens Sink, and the Mess. We ordered the Mess, it comes with home fries topped with scrambled eggs ham, peppers, tomatoes, mushroom, sausage onions, Monterey jack cheese, bacon, side of frsh bake corn bread with butter. The plate look like a mess with items on plate enough to serve two person, my wife ask for white gravy is made with sausage, didn't know at the end the gravy will be charged for, corn bread was very good, l ordered half chicken salad sandwich with soup and salad, chicken just mix with mayonnaise nothing special.

Build-Your-Own Omelette (w/ cheese, spinach, mushrooms and sausage)

If you are craving a nice bowl of oatmeal and a fruit smoothie, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for an oversized breakfast contributing to America's obesity issues, you will not be disappointed. The "Mess" is a massive plate of home fries topped with eggs (3+?) and diced meats and vegetables that looks like one of those food challenges on TV. Our server said she has only once seen a customer finish this plate of food. Oh, and it comes with two squares of rich, buttery corn bread. Omelettes are served with a plentiful portion of home fries and accompanied with a choice of bread. Ingredients may be a bit unbalanced-for instance, my omelette had lots of mushrooms and spinach, but the sausage was barely detectable. Despite being busy, service was fairly prompt and certainly friendly. Prices are reasonable, especially considering many breakfasts include coffee or tea.

Came in around 2, wasn't busy and was seated promptly. The place is clean and has a nostalgic vibe with older decor. Plea ty of seating, booths, tables and even a counter area. Food came out quick and was hot. The Philly steak wrap was great and just enough for me. D got a fajita quesadilla he said was delicious. We will be back to try other items!

Located in an unassuming strip mall. It doesn't look much on the outside and the inside is kitchy but what matters is the food. The staff is very friendly. Happy to offer suggestions and left us wanting for nothing. This place was packed and there were people waiting for seats. They serve breakfast all day. We had a table of six and they had no problem putting a table together for us. I had The Mess which is essentially a big ole plate full of home fries topped with scrambled eggs, ham, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, sausage & onions. Then it is topped with Monterey Jack cheese put under the broiler to melt the cheese and then topped with two pieces of bacon. And if that's not enough food it also comes with a side of their grilled corn bread. It was a delicious mess and I'm ashamed to say I finished it.....of course I had a little help from my daughter's. My hubby snatched up and ate most of the corn bread. The girls did have their own meals but as you know with kids they always end up wanting some of yours. They had the $5.99 kids breakfast that came with your choice of drink. One went with chocolate chip pancakes w, sausage and the other went with blueberry ones with bacon. And of course they both didn't turn down the Whipped Cream the waitress offered. The hubby went with an Omelette filled with cheese and Spinach with homefries. His brother had the full breakfast with pancakes and our other friend had 2 eggs with pancakes and then ordered the loaded Homefries topped with cheese, bacon and scallions with a side of sour cream. They were so full from the pancakes they had to take the loaded Homefries home. Good thing she was on the other side of the table because those Loaded Homefries looked absolutely amazing and I couldn't believe she didn't even dig in for at least one bite. I would definitely say if I am in the area again this is definitely the place to go to fill your belly with tasty delicious breakfast goodness. They also serve lunch & dinner but that breakfast was so good I think I will try out some of the other breakfast items before moving on to the lunch/dinner menu.

The Shack is a classic SE CT diner chain. None of the locations disappoint, including the one in Flanders. I had visited for a Tuesday brunch and even then it was bussling with locals who clearly come often enough. The staff were nice, attentive, and swift. After ordering, it did not take too long for the order to plop on our table. I had ordered The Mess which sounds just as intimidating as it was. But sure did it hit the spot. Everything was cooked to perfection. My favorite part was by far the griddled pancakes. I had the rest of the hash for 2 more meals after haha. One can definitely get their money's worth at this great local favorite!

We got the kitchen sink and the corn beef hash breakfast. The cornbread is a must, the gravy for the biscuit is creamy, no lumps, all in all perfect. The bacon is smoky, the potatoes are perfection - nice crust not burnt. Service is good, a wait in the mornings - we were there at 9:15 and had a 15 min wait

No matter, we were there before 11AM so we were served breakfast. The server we had was excellent she was a former employee of the Coffee Break which was the old restaurant in this location. The place is LOUD. The decor is new and refreshed. There is NO WHEEL CHAIR ACCESS (which surprised me as they just renovated the place. One would think the Town of Clinton would have required it.) I had the Breakfast Wrap with sausage and american cheese. It was good and filling. $7.00 (in May 2026) My companion had the Quinoa Omelette pictured 1/2 eaten ($14.75 in May 2026) which was good. The home fries had a little too much salt but were otherwise excellent. Personally when there is salt actually on the table, I always wonder why the cook just lightly dusts with salt as I can add more. We also ordered a fresh fruit cup which had grapes purple and green, strawberries, and a few hard pieces of honey dew melon. $6.50 (May 2026) In May 2026 the hours are 0700-1430 MON - SAT 0700-1200 SUN ****WARNING**** They stop servicing breakfast items at 11AM They do take credit cards BUT... They used to take it right at the table now, they don't which means you wait to pay. Bad move on the owner's part. There is plenty of free parking. I imagine there will be waits once the summer season gets going so plan to wait (maybe on the weekends)?

The parking lot is 'smallish' on the right side of the building and flows right to left in one direction, so be sure to look for the 'enter' sign. There are three steps up into the diner so be aware of that if you have difficulty using steps. Also, the restroom is tiny: like so small the sink is about a foot long by half as much wide, small. We stop in here on our trips out to Groton. Last visit we stopped for a late breakfast/early lunch. I ordered a coffee and it came in a nice big mug and is a mellow blend with a smooth finish. There are photo descriptions on the table of what your eggs will look like based on how you order it, so no surprises. What a great idea. The table holds napkins, hot sauces, salt & pepper, jellies, creamer and sugars. The staff are pleasant. Some are more chatty than others. There are definitely some regulars here each time we visit. The menu has lots of breakfast options but there are no substitutions so you may need to order al a carte or get a different 'meal' option and add-on an item. Just a heads up. They have plenty of toast options including English muffins. The lunch menu is a variety of sandwiches and burgers. Fries are tasty. Lettuce and tomato on your sandwiches are fresh. I can't think of a single disappointment we've had here. If you are in the area and enjoy a nice diner experience, stop in to Norm's.

You're coming here because it's open late, has cold drinks, and it's probably close by. In my case, it was conveniently located near our Airbnb, and with limited late-night dining options in the area, I ended up eating here two nights in a row--strictly out of convenience. Both nights I had the Clam Strip Roll. It's fine. Not great, not terrible. Just... fine. On the first night, I made the mistake of ordering the French fries, which came with an extra charge. They were underwhelming--small portion, cold, and not seasoned. Definitely not worth the upcharge or the calories. The second night I opted for the default chips instead. Still not great, but at least they didn't cost extra. My friend had the BLT on night one--nothing offensive about it, but nothing to write home about either. The toast was uneven, and the onion rings (also an upcharge) were a letdown: soggy and bland. On the second night, they went with the Works Burger and a side salad. Again, both were just average. The burger checked the usual boxes, and the salad was basic but fresh enough. In short, the food does the job, but it's not going to be a highlight of your trip. Drinks were a brighter spot--cold and reasonably priced, which is really all you can ask for in a place like this. The atmosphere? Exactly what you'd expect from a small-town dive bar. There are a few pool tables, TVs mounted on the walls playing sports, and music that leaned into classic rock and barroom standards. It's unpretentious and low-key--probably the kind of place where regulars sit at the same bar stools every night. Service was solid. Orders were taken quickly, drinks arrived fast, and needs were met with minimal fuss. Nothing over the top in terms of attentiveness, but nothing lacking either. It's the kind of service that keeps the gears moving without drawing attention to itself. Overall, Lyme Tavern is a functional, no-frills stop. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit, but in a pinch--especially if it's late and you're nearby--it'll do.
