We are here on a trip and needed to refuel for breakfast . It was incredible. 10/10. The food was amazing and the cooks are working so hard! They are very nice and accommodating, we had our son in his car seat and they got us a high chair to put it on so we could see him I highly recommend!

When Pigs Fly is an institution in the area for breakfast. Anyone here who wants a true local CT experience should make it a point to come. Known for their eclectic decor, delicious food and hefty portions, WPF hit the mark this weekend as always! This time around, we ordered a Super Scramble along with the Sausage and Gravy. Both were so filling, with eggs cooked perfectly. Potatoes extra crispy as we ordered. Awesome sourdough toast. Corned beef hash also good. Self serve coffee had a good variety of flavors as well, I mixed French vanilla and regular (with a splash of cream)! It used to be cash only, but you can now use a card to pay, which made things easy as well. Never regret coming here, excited to return next time I'm in the area!

Such a cute place. First time visiting. I was welcomed as soon as I walked in. They have decor that is piggy inspired. Reminds me of mom and pop restaurants from years ago. Ask for coffee to start. He told me that they had a coffee bar and that I could help myself to whichever coffee I'd like to choose. Walked over to a little makeshift coffee bar near the register. Again very cute and simple. The normal cups are on the right side of the cash register. Turnaround for your tea and coffee add in's like cream, milk and sugar. Highly Recommend their Crème Brûlée coffee. Yum. I ordered their Drew Omelette. It came out quickly even though they had a full seating if guests at the time. It was Delicious. They can be made to order which is great. I was able to add in the roasted Red peppers and it gave the omelette a nice bit of flavor. Also ordered their Banana Bread that is homemade and they were able to toast it so it had a little crisp to it, that I like. The menu had a ton of items to choose from and the waiter was very knowledgeable of it and was able to rattle off more options than I knew what to do with but happy he did. I did not feel rushed either. They brought me my normal... a to go box. Really was a nice first visit. I would definitely bring my family here when they come to visit. If you can, ask for Elias. Fabulous and Sweet Personality. Appreciate him taking care of me today. They take both cash and card. They can take it at the table or at the cashier area. Decent amount of parking in the rear of the property. Manager Note. Thank you and your staff for a wonderful breakfast experience. Small Manager Recommendations For us First Timer. 1. There are 3 Doors to choose one to come to... I ended up choosing the door on the Far left. After I was sat, I watched 5 different Guests come to the door on the right side like I did. A simple sign with an arrow to the Entrance would help First timers navigate where to go. 2. When you drive up, there needs to be a sign for parking. Like "When Pigs Fly Parking in the Rear" on an Arrow sign, otherwise people will have to turn around and figure it out themselves.

To go country scramble with home fries

So visiting from nyc and we ran into this place for some breakfast to go . I ordered the sampler for my husband that came with sausage , eggs, bacon , homefries, bread, 1 slice of french toast and a pancake. I had the country scrambler that is scrambled eggs with onion, mushrooms and sausage with homefries. The portions are generous. The omelet scramble was very tasty. The homefries needed serious seasoning. It is just cut up potatoes no pepper or onion. Just potatoes. They lacked salt entirely. The pancakes were okay. As was the French toast. The coffee set up was nice as they offer an open bar for as much coffee as you want. The coffee as i have experience in the New England area in general is not great. However, you can just walk up and get more coffee and fix it the way you like. It has the flying pig themed logo in the windows. And gives off that eclectic 1960 themed cafeteria look with light blue and white checkered floors. We were visiting for the memorial day weekend. I don't know if the staff were overwhelmed with the holiday rush but when asking questions they answered but their facial expressions screamed im bothered. The food was okay. The place was clean. It worked for what we needed at the moment.

How special is like a Smedley style home fries bacon jalapeños, banana peppers with supposed to be over easy with cheese and a Bayou sauce

Lost their way I had to send my plate back twice and just looked like a stomach ache. A place I recommend to most, it's been more than 15years since I ate here. Hopefully next time I'll get a better experience. Overall food was ok, just needed a little love . My biggest complaint was bacon was under cooked

Parking is always hit or miss for their back parking lot. We were able to get a spot and seated quickly. The waitress came over three times the entire time but we were assisted frequently by the bus boy. She only came over to take our food order, bring us the food and bring out the check. Pretty busy but got our food quickly. I ordered the banana bread french toast. Hubby ordered the sampler and stated that the sausage tasted like it was used in oil that was used repeatedly.

Cute little spot in Waterford. We stopped in late morning on a Saturday before running some errands. Self-serve coffee bar with unique flavors (snickerdoodle, caramel vanilla, hazelnut). We tried the breakfast scramble & Marguerite omelet. Loved that they had leaner breakfast meat options (turkey sausage & chicken apple sausage).

Great environment for brunch. Delicious food and nice customer service. Love to be back when back to this area.

My favorite local breakfast place! This is one of the few places I go where I struggle to order because there are so many good menu choices, such as the various Scrambles. And then, there is the specials board. The specials are always so good and a bit unusual, such as a pulled pork omelette and wonderful pancake and French toast options. I also love the flavored coffees and that you can help yourself. The servers are exceptional too. Fast, friendly and genuinely cheerful. Shout out to Casey who always remembers us and treats us like old friends!

We had a late brunch. Service was friendly. The menu seemed good but flavours left much to be desired. We had the corned beef and sauerkraut omelet, pistachio French toast, grits and a tuna melt. The omelette was not well seasons and lacked sufficient flavor from the ingredient that were present. The home fries that came with all meals were absolutely disappointing. They were 1/2 in x 1/4 in bits of potato which closer to the consistency needed for mashed potatoes than home fries. Proper home fries should be at least 1 inch cubes so that they could get crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The pistachio French toast was just a pistachio loaf cake lightly dipped in batter with a drizzle of a confectioners sugar glaze. All in all it disastrously sweet. The tuna melt and grits were standard. We will not be headed back there in a hurry.

Steak and eggs with garlic hash browns! Husband said it was phenomenal!

Great breakfast, fast service and incredibly nice staff! A L O T of food for your money!!! You won't be disappointed!

My parents made me take a day off and had us drive an hour to have breakfast here because they were blown away the first time they went here and i could totally see why. Such a cute place with creative menu. I had a mac n cheese omelette! My dad swears by the sausage and gravy, and my brother fell in love with the banana bread frenchtoast.

Apparently this is an institution (at least based on the shirts and paraphernalia they sell with The Shack name on it). The food was pretty standard fare, nothing crazy or out of the ordinary here, maybe some fun names for their everything but the kitchen sink omelettes (The Shanty and The Mess come to mind). Bottom line is they know their way around deep fryers, and they know eggs. My only regret is ordering the banana cream pie - crust was okay, banana pieces were good, the top "cream" part was like an odd key lime consistency and sour flavor that I did not expect or cared for. P.S. They have a massive senior citizen following, but that shouldn't be a negative like other reviewers seem to have made it. They like what they like, and then seniors like The Shack!

Counter seating is available toward the back of the space, running along a side wall where the grill is located. At the front, by the picture windows, are a few tables. As soon as we entered we were greeted and they let us know we could sit where we'd like. They also let us know the Reubens were very good here if we like those. We do like those, so that's what we got. Sandwiches here come with a bag a chips, which I love, because I usually end up taking them with me and look forward to snacking on them later. :) The restaurant is manned by the cook and one waitress. Both are very personable. The tables are set and waiting for guests. Everything is clean and tidy. The table holds your salt, pepper, hot sauce, ketchup, sugar and jelly. I ordered a coffee with cream and she brought cream to the table with the coffee; which is good by the way. We also got waters. The Rueben is Very good here. Thin slices of very lean meat, good flavor profile with the vinegar in the sauerkraut and the creamy dressing. The bread held together perfectly and was grilled without all the grease. Both of which make it much easier to eat the sandwich and enjoy all the flavors and textures. Free on street parking was easy to find. One restroom in the kitchen only is not technically for public use. We will be stopping by again.

The parking lot is 'smallish' on the right side of the building and flows right to left in one direction, so be sure to look for the 'enter' sign. There are three steps up into the diner so be aware of that if you have difficulty using steps. Also, the restroom is tiny: like so small the sink is about a foot long by half as much wide, small. We stop in here on our trips out to Groton. Last visit we stopped for a late breakfast/early lunch. I ordered a coffee and it came in a nice big mug and is a mellow blend with a smooth finish. There are photo descriptions on the table of what your eggs will look like based on how you order it, so no surprises. What a great idea. The table holds napkins, hot sauces, salt & pepper, jellies, creamer and sugars. The staff are pleasant. Some are more chatty than others. There are definitely some regulars here each time we visit. The menu has lots of breakfast options but there are no substitutions so you may need to order al a carte or get a different 'meal' option and add-on an item. Just a heads up. They have plenty of toast options including English muffins. The lunch menu is a variety of sandwiches and burgers. Fries are tasty. Lettuce and tomato on your sandwiches are fresh. I can't think of a single disappointment we've had here. If you are in the area and enjoy a nice diner experience, stop in to Norm's.
