Definitely a local eatery. No frills tables and bar and a pretty quick turnaround. While we were there, quite a few locals came in for a cup of coffee and breakfast. Usually a good sign! I had a fruit crepe, which was acceptable, but very unevenly filled. Some bites were full of cream, others were just crepe. My husband had a very nice egg scramble that was totally overflowing with mix ins- mushrooms, peppers, sausage, cheese. Very good! Our daughter had a simple Belgian waffle with a good amount of fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Overall a pleasant experience, though not a "fine dining" location. The place is a gem. A real find. My girlfriend and I are staying at a resort about a half mile away. She called me her favorite concierge because I like to research. When we pulled up the Turtle Cafe this morning I asked if she wanted to go in. She said she liked the vibe immediately. Just like she trusts my research, I trust her vibe. Well, we hit it right on this one. I wish I had taken photos of the food as the presentation was excellent, especially hers. She had the egg white vegetable frittata. It came with a lightly dressed arugula salad on top. Usually, when we go to a diner and she gets an omelette with home fries, she ends up eating about half. Admittedly we were both hungry, but she said the egg white made it light and easy to eat. I had the Woodie Omelette and man, was that the right choice. Home made hash is hard to find. This was delicious inside a perfect fluffy omelette. I'd never had garlic aioli over eggs. It was put on sparingly because it was strong and I needed a piece of gum afterwards but it was worth it. The wait staff were excellent. Two waitresses work together on service, so you don't have one waitress, but two. We were warmly greeted the moment we walked in even though the place was about 3/4 full. It's got that classic small diner, cozy almost hole in the wall feel with a definitely elevated menu. Tables along one wall, a counter along the length of the place and a completely open kitchen on the other side with two chefs keeping the food moving. Our wait time was for food was very good. Definitely a local's spot as the staff knew quite a few of the customers. I wished they had gluten free toast for my girlfriend. Her gluten issues are real and it does not take much to keep a loaf or two in the freezer. She said she had plenty to eat so no biggie. Highly recommend this place to anyone staying in the area or even passing through. Easy off 95 and ample parking. We will definitely be back! read more

Unique and delicious. It reminds me of a diner in that you can sit at the counter (if you like) and watch them cook, which I enjoy. Very unique menu (not strange) and all I wish was that we got their before they ran out of lobster. My kind of place, where the food (and the cooks) are the focus and not a fancy establishment. Visited Westbrook for a weekend and so glad we checked this place out. The breakfast was incredible. I had their tex mex burrito and shared a waffle with strawberries and chocolate. It was just too hard to pick one thing on the menu! The staff was very nice and the chef talked to us while cooking as we sat at the counter. Super friendly. Finally decided I should write a review. Love the Zorba -- the lemon sauce just makes it so bright. Today though I chose the August Frittata special. Kielbasa, peaches, Gorgonzola, Cheddar, spinach -- so many flavors that worked so well together. The one thing that keeps us away is that the place is fairly small and we don't like to wait. We often will sit at the counter which I enjoy so we can watch the chef. On a hot summer day though we sat too close to the oven for comfort. But we will definitely be back. read more

Another great meal at the Cafe. We always try to stop here on the way to the Cape for creative, tasty food and friendly staff. Usually, we're traveling mid-week, but we're trying to game 4th of July traffic. The Cafe was jumping with locals and travelers and we wound up sitting at the counter. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots. The Sizzlers are my favorite. Whenever we go we're always treated like family. Ricky(owner/head chef) always takes a moment to say hi. What's not to like? Foods always fresh, cooked the way you want, never overcooked. You need to make sure you get here before 10a on weekends seats(both outside and in) fill up quick. I've driven by sometimes on the weekends and seen the line out the door!! But honestly even if you have to wait in line, it's well worth the wait! read more

Stopped on our way south to Maryland and happened upon this little cafe. Too hot to sit outside, so we sat inside. I ordered the lobster crepe (special) and they allowed my husband to have steak and cheese quesadilla even though they weren't officially serving lunch yet. My crepes had an abundance of big chunks of lobster and the quesadilla was also delicious! Nothing fancy. Cooks are on other side of bar. Tiny place with great food. Saw lots of great dishes going to other diners. Wish we lived closer so we could try other dishes. read more

**based on one visit** Came here for breakfast last Sunday around 9:30am. Didn't have to wait for a counter seat, but it was otherwise pretty full. Ordered hash with eggs--solid. Got a side of hollandaise--pretty tasteless and disappointing. Decent coffee, not great, but not terrible. Loved sitting at the counter watching them cook. Nothing but respect for short order cooks. Right on route 1, this is a nice little diner set up. And like any self-respecting diner, the food is really good! Not a lot of tables, a bit tight, some counter seating, we went for brunch and were NOT disappointed. Service was quick. The cook was not one of those crazy, flying off the handle, noisy types. He was quiet, courteous, fast, and focused. The wait staff was attentive. The menu was varied enough so there was something for everyone. We went late morning during the week to avoid the crowds. It's a small place to say the least. Got a seat right away. The food was enjoyable and the service was fine. I won't dwell on that since there were some issues that will make it difficult to make a return trip anytime soon. I would have gone with 4 stars but I there were a few things that bothered me. The tables, utensils and such were clean enough to avoid my wrath. The window air conditioner vents were nasty. Lots of black accumulated dust. No excuse for this. Wipe them down once a day and that problem goes away. Attention to detail goes a long way. The chef station is exposed so everything is on display. It's like Hibachi, you're almost compelled to watch. Although the chef was working quite hard, he was working without gloves and going between raw, cooked, fruits and salad greens without skipping a beat. For good measure, he picked up his cellphone, typed a relatively lengthy text and went right back to work without skipping a beat. If you can look beyond these details, I imagine you'll enjoy yourself. The place has a good reputation otherwise and came highly recommended. As I mentioned earlier, I enjoyed the food. There are good selections. I only wish I could have kept my eyes shut. read more

We've been taking road trips of three to six thousand miles every year for the past forty or so, and we always enjoy finding a great place to eat. This place is detour worthy, and perhaps our all-time favorite! We were sold as soon as we sat down and looked at the extensive breakfast menu featuring a wide variety of frittatas, crepes (bothy savory and sweet) and waffles. We've been here three times, and each breakfast was among the best we've ever had. This is beyond finding a place that has a reliable eggs Benedict or a couple of unusual items on the menu. This is brunch heaven. My wife and I would consider moving to Westbrook if we didn't love our grown children so much. read more
