We found this wonderful bakery online while vacationing in OBX. We only needed a few GF Cupcakes......but we ended up grabbing a a pizza roll, tiramisu, and another cupcake!! I had to edit/add because of their nasty response Nasty voicemail was left and I was told I should feel lucky they even took my order, six gluten-free cupcakes and a round cake. I was vacationing in Kill Devil Hills and drove to them because their website looked amazing. My order was completely wrong. I was inconvenienced by driving back twice. (40min round trips) The order was put in on the Sunday before, with pick up on the following Friday morning. The woman on the phone was so nice and helpful(at first). When I went to pick up my order( gluten free Cupcakes and an anniversary cake), the cupcakes weren't even made let alone ready. I asked if they could give me a time, they said no (seemed very annoyed I asked) and they will call me. My order was completely wrong. I was inconvenienced by driving back twice. They were unpleasant to deal with and seemed put off by simple questions of a general estimate of time when I had to come back. When I made the order, I was told everything would be ready Friday morning. They seemed very overwhelmed which was probably why they weren't very nice to talk with that day. I had to go back a second time for a 40 min round trip. It was my parents 50th anniversary and had many things to do. On top of having to go back twice, the cake was completely wrong. I am in the service industry, I would never treat anyone the way I was treat. Have I had worse experiences, yes, but I also went there instead of a grocery stores for better service. I would probably go to Publix instead of them. You have responsibilities in your business to set guidelines, one being time of pickup and confirming that the order is right by the customer. Neither of those were done. I'm so sorry you are overwhelmed. Maybe you should have turned down business if you couldn't handle my order. Especially simple things like a yellow cake and time of pickup. As well as having the whole order ready for pickup, and not sending me away with only a part of the order. I am updating/adding to this review. Along with everything else, you got the order wrong because you took it wrong. I ordered a yellow cake, I was told it would be ready for Friday morning. I had two other people who heard you in the car. If you couldn't fill my order, then that's on you for saying you could. I shouldn't be lucky, as you said in the message that you even took the order in the first place. I'm sorry you can't hold any accountability. If anyone would like to hear the nasty voice mail she left me I would be happy to share. That's how they treat a patron who is unhappy with their service/order. Stopped here during our walk on our last day in Duck. We wished we would've come earlier in the week...I saw about 10 different pastries I would've loved to try. There were other customers in there with 3-4 boxes of takeout for breakfast. We ordered a sriracha bagel with chive cream cheese to share because anything sriracha must be tried. Unfortunately, they were out. It was about 9:30 so maybe we were too late but it was disappointing. We nearly bailed with nothing because we didn't have a backup option, but I randomly went with the French toast bagel and honey walnut cream cheese because that also sounded unique like I'd never had before. It was quite delicious and they halve it, toast it, cream cheese it, then halve it again for you to eat and share easily. Quite large, plenty for 2 people. I imagine this place gets pretty busy for breakfast but it's nice and open inside so you have room to order and wait for yours to be ready without feeling crowded. I also saw they do Italian dinner takeout. That also would've been good to know earlier in the week! Maybe next time... read more

WOW! Tullio's is fabulous! We got multiple orders throughout the week of Thanksgiving. Everything was terrific. I had no idea Tullio's had such a variety of baked goods, bagels, sandwiches, sweet breakfast treats and fantastic made-to-order pasta trays. The meat lasagna was wonderful and a great way to feed a bunch of folks. I can't wait to order up another batch of goodies the next time we're in town. And, the pumpkin pie was WAY better than Mom's. bagels are huge and really delicious. i got the plain with veggie cream cheese. cream cheese options are also pretty good variety and i also had the chocolate croissant another time and it was also very good. if i'm ever back in obx this place with definitely be on my list to come back to :)) all reasonably priced as well read more

Several years back I visited this place and it wasn't that great. We tried it a few more times each summer, but still wasn't good. Baked goods were always dry and didn't look appealing behind the glass window so we stopped going here and instead drove out of our way to Lighthouse Bagels instead. However, I saw the strawberry shortcake online and had to get it this summer... and it's amazing! Moist, light, not too sweet, and loaded with tons of fresh strawberries. I'll have to stop by next summer and give this place a try again since the cake has convinced me that their other stuff is probably a lot better now. Maybe new owners? read more

This is hands down is the Best lil bakery in the OBX. I love the Raspberry Cheesecake, the Cinnamon Rolls and well to be honest , everything is just so Yummy. My only problem is so many people feel the same. Sometimes they run out of my favorites before I can get down to Duck. I'll be ordering my Birthday cake in August, it will make getting older a little easier knowing I get to have one of their fabulous cakes. read more

The best desserts I've had! I ordered the mini Key lime cheesecake and it was so incredibly delicious and creamy, that I went back and ordered 3 more to go! I also purchased an eclair and wish I had purchased 10! The delicious Bavarian- like cream filling and wonderfully chocolatey topping made the eclair the best tasting I've had! It's hard to find quality, great tasting baked goods, but Tullio's desserts left me wishing I had a Tullio's in my home town! Don't be tempted to try anything in this place. Over the years I try something I keep giving them a chance and everything is below par. The donuts are terrible especially being across from duck donuts you think they would step it up a notch. The cinnamon buns are OK. The lemon ricotta cookie looks delicious and taste terrible. Stopped in Tuesday about 9am first week of June to get donuts for the house because I prefer yeast donuts and these were delightful. The shop is quite large and located in a little strip with plenty of parking. Staff was really friendly. I got the maple donut and it was just what i wanted. We also got regular glazed donuts and Boston Cream's. All really good yeast style. I would like to come back and try their bagels and fudge because it looks so good! read more

It's not possible to tell from the outside that they do, indeed, make and serve fresh hot breakfast. But they do. I had a bagel sandwich with ham, cheese, and egg. It was delicious, starting with a very quality bagel. I, too, was surprised by the credit card fee, and said that I would have paid cash if I'd been made aware. Cashier/employee (a vision of bleach and spray tan) was as dismissive as she was to previous reviewers. She was fairly confused the whole time (thought I was with another customer 10 feet away, and later tried to charge another customer for my meal), but she did make a good breakfast sandwich. read more

Our family of four got breakfast sandwiches, donuts and drinks to start our day. Everything was delicious and the staff is friendly. Only criticism was that it took a long time to get our food after we ordered. From watching for 20 minutes, I noticed that all five workers up front took orders then passed them to the cook, then returned to the counter. As food came out of the kitchen, workers kept packing/unpacking the to-go bags out of confusion. The operation would benefit greatly from dedicating one person to be the expediter to organize/prioritize orders. You guys do that and this place is five stars all day. read more

Ran by a local family, Tullios is a top notch Italian cafe. They have everything from scones to donuts and Italian ice to baked ziti. Nothing disappoints since they put hand made efforts into every pastry and goodie. It's a great place to grab and go. There is not much seating but there are a few tables outside. The absolute best!! Great bagels and Italian ice. I stopped by every day on vacation.

We learned of this place late in our trip to the OBX, but wish we discovered it earlier. This bakery would not be out of place in NY or NJ, its an interesting mix of a traditional Italian bakery, with a nice selection of cakes, cookies, and such, and also a variety of breakfast offerings you usually find at a deli. The breakfast sandwiches were excellent. Your standard offering of croissant, roll or bagel with choice of meat, egg and cheese. My only recommendation is that they need a better system for managing the order line. read more

This morning we were given a bagel that appears to be moldy. When we went back for a different one the owner took no responsibility, said that it wasn't mold, and then started "hissing" and saying "moldy bagel, please!" OK - So my family has been doing OBX vacations since I was about 10. Every year my mother brought me here and we got the chocolate mousse filled chocolate cupcake shells. AMAZING! The chocolate mousse is by far the best I've ever had. This year I came back after a long hiatus of not going to OBX. They're in a different location but the chocolate mousse is still the same. I love it! As weird as it sounds, I was looking forward to eating this more than going to the beach. It's a must try! read more

Despite COVID considerations My key lime cupcake was a disaster. It had an odd taste in both the icing and the cake. The cupcake was dry and crumbled everywhere. Lines were way too long to get it returned so had to throw it in the trash. We sat outside to enjoy breakfast but were soon overwhelmed by the swarms of flies attacking our breakfast. The croissants with egg and cheese were just okay and not spectacular. The tables were dirty from previous guest but we did notice just before we finished someone was making an effort to wipe them down. This was my experience with this business. read more

Tullios never fails to disappointment. I have been a part Duck resident for over three years and have tried several times to have a good experience here. It's just not worth the time and money to continue to hope for the best. First of all, this is one of the most disorganized businesses I have ever experienced. No one seems to have put any thought into the customer side of the bakery case. It's a fung shui nightmare! The check out station is over in a corner that means you have to turn around with your hands full of your purchases and muscle your way through the crowd standing around hoping to get noticed as the "next" one in line. There is no line! If the County health dept. ever drops in, they will no doubt fine this establishment for no hand washing stations and for employees who are expected to handle not just your food but your cash as well. It's insane to not have one person manning the cash register while the others fill the orders. I ordered a birthday cake for a friend. For $40 I got the worst tasting cake I have ever eaten. The give away was the force it took to actually slice into this cake with a sharp and heavy knife I can't even begin to describe the texture, dense would be a compliment and this cake deserves none. It tasted like it had been in a freezer for at least six months. Based on the many reviews I've read about the rudeness of these people I chose not to complain. Might has well have lit two $20 bills on fire. I stopped by for a treat one afternoon and chose a carrot cupcake. Gah! It was stale to say the least: dry as a bone. There was not a shred of carrot in it and it looked like the lowest quality cake mix one could find had been the start of this disaster of a treat. I tossed it after a few bites. That said, I do need to defend their pricing. What most tourists don't take into consideration is that OBX business have 90 DAYS to make all their $ for the year. Prices are high because they have to tide business owners over and through the 9 months of the year that are not the madness of Memorial Day to Labor Day. And keep in mind the cost of rent in a place like Duck. A space the size of Tullios rents for close to $2000 a month. Do the math, and give OBX business owners a break on the grousing about prices. read more

Sign #47 that you are addicted to Yelp: You have great coffee and breakfast at home, but you still go out in the morning to find a cafe, just so you can review it. This is one of the only coffee spots in town that had decent curb appeal, so I decided to check it out while I was out for a morning bike ride. It is apparently one of two locations in town. This one sits in the Loblolly Pines shopping center with Pizzazz Pizza. This is mainly a bakery serving pastries and donuts, but also serves coffee, espresso drinks, italian ice, newspapers, fudge, and some shlocky beach stuff. The theme inside is "clutter"; This is true for the main room, but the kitchen area (visible behind the counter) is a complete disaster. Kudos for being able to make me a small, double-soy latte, but the chocolate croissant I ordered was tiny and greasy. Total price was just under $9. Seemed like a ripoff. That'll teach me to have breakfast at home next time, Yelp itch or no. read more

This is a village favorite. I stop in every now and then when I'm visiting home and in Duck. My sister could live there. My friend and I were visiting home this past weekend and stopped in for some sweets. We got a slice of chocolate raspberry ganache cheesecake. Mmmm. Quite rich. Too much goodness for me to finish and I was sharing! Still, a nice treat on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Breads, cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, desserts, pastries, pies... Fudge, donuts, bagels, Italian ice... To the complainers about the prices, yes it is expensive. You're patronizing a bakery that caters to tourists so of course it's going to be more expensive. Treats are a rarity and not a regular for this very reason. We locals don't get a discount so it's not like we're jumping for joy, but it's baked goods from a family-owned place that makes it ALL in house. I approve of that. read more

We were visiting for family vacation and it was my 23 year old stepsons birthday. I went to this bakery and ordered a peanut butter cheesecake. I also had my 2 month old son with me. Everyone was so kind and service was quick. The cake was fresh and my step son LOVED it so much he took the leftovers all the way back to California with him with ice packs. We purchased a cake for our nephew's birthday.......My sister and I both worked in an Italian bakery in New Jersey..We were born and raised in BROOKLYN, NY...I have been to Little Italy in NEW YORK and NEVER had someone put almond extract in it..Never, NEVER, NEVER, Never, NEVER have I had cannoli cream in a spingi, a cannoli or a cannoli cake that was made with ALMOND EXTRACT.....An expert baker would use CINNAMON OIL... The cake itself was so GUMMY and PASTY.......AND as a business owner to yell at a customer and throw insults is totally UNCALLED for....... THE ONLY variation that I WILL see in cannolis is the nuts used as garnish, chocolate chips or chocolate shavings, candied fruit or orange peel....NOT ALMOND EXTRACT!!! TOTALLY Disgusting and the owners are VOMIT!!!!!!HOW DARE you accuse a customer of wanting something for FREE! There is an ASIAN guy in my town that makes BETTER cannolis.......As an ITALIAN you should RENOUNCE yourself.......... Betty CROCKER would have been a thousand times better!!!! read more

GREAT bagels and donuts ... I cannot speak to the cakes. This is a small family-owned bakery in a resort town ... not a Panera. Bagels are delicious and enormous, they're twice the mass (weigh them with a food scale haters!) of Panera or Einstein bagels - figure that into your cost calculations. Donuts are spot-on perfect. If you want cheap donuts, visit Dunkin' ... if you want fresh donuts made by hand, buy these. I advise you to come early, they sell out of just about everything FAST - that's probably my only ding, but I still offer a solid 5 stars. read more
