This isn't a place that has "bar food," it has "bar seafood." My girlfriend and I ate here on two occasions. Kat was our first server and she was excellent on all levels. My Hendrick's Gin martini was perfect. However, the Brie and Bacon Oysters hid the oysters to the point where I could barely taste them. The She Crab Soup was so heavy with cream that I could barely taste the crab. My girlfriend did enjoy her Buffalo Chicken Dip. Our second trip came by her family's invitation. Again, I had an excellent martini. This time, I ordered the Mahi Grilled Sandwich, which was a Reuben without the corned beef and sauerkraut. That was really wonderful. The large piece of mahi mahi was tender and delicious. Other family members enjoyed their angus burgers. None of the food arrived at the same time for everyone, including the drinks. The exterior of the place is nice for dining. Although the interior is air conditioned, it has more of a dormitory dining hall feel. The bathrooms could be cleaner as well. read more

Sunset has a great sound side view and dock area in OBX. They have a lot of fun drinks with cups that you're able to keep. The food varied, the Brussels sprouts weren't as cooked as we would've liked but the cheese curds and sauce were very good. As for entrees, the pasta and mahi were a hit. read more

Popped in around 2 on a Wednesday, pretty empty. Service from David was pretty solid, food was good, and the ambiance is great. Just can get hot out on the deck. First off the people who work at the host stand are incredibly difficult. We were a party of 8 and 5 of us were there and they made us wait. One thing if it was crowded but hardly anyone was there. Flies were flying all over the place which makes it so disgusting when eating. The food was so subpar that it made it really miserable to eat. This multi-level spot was on the bay with a tiki bar and lively views. The menu had a Caribbean fare to it for the most part. The service was appreciated, and the food came out promptly. For an appetizer, the Brussel sprouts ($11?) were ordered. They came with a sautéed brown butter, balsamic vinegar, garlic, toasted pine nuts, and parmesan. These were alright. I liked the mix of flavors, mostly the toasted pine nuts and balsamic, but they were not cooked enough. They needed to be a tad crispier. For an entrée, I had the Bayou Cajun redfish ($32?). It came with shrimp, Cajun cream sauce, Pico de Gallo, black beans, and rice. This was a hearty dish. There was a ton of rice and beans that had good flavor with a large red fish filet too. The seasoning and sauce were alright. I thought the sauce needed more of a Cajun flavor to it. I also tried a special that was being offered the night I attended. It was a seafood trio. It consisted of crab meat, scallops, and shrimp with broccolini. It was cooked in a light butter sauce. This was simple and done right. Will I go back? Probably. read more

Update: Coming back here after a couple of years and we had a party of 11. They sat us at a table with only 10 seats and to make room they added another table in front of the emergency exit. We asked if they could seat us somewhere else because one of our party preferred another table that was available and we were there early to have our choice of seats in a first come first served restaurant. They offered us another section with a 45 minute wait and when we asked about another section they said no because their policy was they had to spread out the customers. They prioritized their seating procedure over paying customers so we left. read more

Came in with a large party group and had Cyerra as our server. She was really good with us throughout the night. We received our appetizers and drinks in a reasonable time. However, after waiting about two hours, Cyerra informed us that the kitchen had just gotten our order placed in at 8:51 PM. She was suprised when she got the news... We arrived at roughly before 6:30 PM, and our appetizers came out around 6:50 PM, so it was very disappointing to hear about the delay. The manger kinda went at us afterwards saying we just got here and etc... but realistically we're here for a while... I felt sorry for the kitchen staff--unfortunately, it seemed like the food was rushed, and a lot of items were missed. Overall, it was not what we expected. read more

My husband and I used to come to this restaurant whenever we came to Corolla. Last time we went I had my service stock. They told us we would have to sit outside in the heat. I asked him to please ask the manager as he is a surface dog and I could not sit out in the heat. We were sat in the corner, where they put all the extra tables and chairs flies around the table. The waiter was great. Food was OK but if you have a service dog they are not open to having you eat in the restaurant and for that we will never go back. read more

We hit this place every year for our adult dinner w/o the kids. Had 9 people, very busy, food was a little slow coming out but worth the wait. Shout out to the staff busting their butts serving a lot of tables and still getting to food out warm. All of us ordered a lot of different things off the menu including a lot of apps, everything was fresh and hot, and tasted good. Sunset Grille I've been to twice now, both times were incredible!! The view and scenery is amazing, the cocktails are awesome, so many unique ones to try. I had 3 appetizers and a dinner. Their Oysters are great, but their clam chowder is legendary. I recommend all seafood lovers give it a shot, I wish we had chowder like that at home. Perfect consistency and lots of big clams. One employee Onica, in the selfie attached, deserves a raise & should be the face of the business. She is incredibly dedicated to bringing good energy and happy customers back to eat. Despite the reviews, we decided to try this restaurant and Wow! What great experience! The view was amazing! We arrived without reservations and yet we were given a great table with a view of the water. Our server Cyerra was so sweet, gave us great recommendations and the cocktails were fantastic, we had the Painkillers and Caribbean Koolaid and got to keep the fun glasses as souvenirs. We came here for dinner. Judging by other Yelp reviews, we tampered our expectations a bit which was helpful. People were probably trying hard, we just weren't impressed by the service. The food was good, I got the pictured special (lobster, shrimp, and scallops with a vodka sauce and cheese gnocchi) but nothing at our table was amazing. Recently renovated and overlooking the Currituck sound, I really enjoy their seafood and service. The dishes are delicious and there's no pretentiousness involved with meals here, a characteristic that isn't often common for a lot of restaurants in the touristy parts of Duck. Even on a busy night the hostess will find a way to sneak you in. There are a few arcade games on the upper deck to allow for entertainment with kids. Local craft brew beers are available and the bar serves delicious. cocktails too. I ordered their mahi-mahi special with mango salsa, coupled with mashed potatoes, and broccoli rabe. The brussels sprouts as an appetizer were also delicious with lemon, sea salt, and olive oil. Overall one of my favorite restaurants on the Outer Banks and worth visiting, even if you just want a beer and view of the Currituck sound. read more

Awesome views good food. So my mom and group of our OBX vacation friends and family decided to come here for a light dinner. I previously had fond memories of this place with my parents years ago but the conch fritters I loved were no longer there. My drink of choice was the Caribbean Kool-aid I ordered a cup of New England clam chowder, a dozen oysters garlic Parmesan lobster fries. My mom ordered the fried oysters with fries and slaw. The chowder broth was super thick and the taste was bland the temperature was not hot enough so I sent it back for the she crab soup which was good. The fries were flavorful but Warm my mom said her fried oysters were good but the slaw was sour other then that the food that I was supposed to hot needed to be hot but the view is beautiful! read more

We took the whole family (12) for the last meal on our spring break vacation. The view of the sunset was amazing and worth the trip. The service both at the bar and our waiter were very attentive, friendly, and on point. Everyone enjoyed their meals - I had oysters on a half-shell with the Cajun Redfish for my entree, my wife had the oyster Rockefeller with the salmon for her entree.
