Really sub par flavorless breakfast sandwiches and bagels. Please see the thing they call an everything bagel in the photo. The employee we felt with was knowledgeable if not very friendly. 2 breakfast sandwiches was $30. Which seems like too much for an egg in some bread. Their one plus is they have gluten free bread so at least my husband could eat. Everything we saw made it out to look like they had loads of GF options. They do not. They have a cupcake and 2 mini cheesecakes. It's not worth the drive up from nags head if that's where you're staying. read more

Shame shame on the female owner. Her new employees need training obviously when making a mistake which occurred within my order and the demeanor for which the way the owner reprimanded this young gal is belittling and fear based tone. You can see it when you go to the coffee bar with the sign that screams at you letting you know refills are NOT FREE. This owner needs a training class in her delivery in communications . The sign yells at you much the same way the owner speaks to her employees and how she spoke to me. In so far as food purchase, my sandwich had scarce lox so when I split it in half with my friend I was basically eating cream cheese on a bagel for the price of a lox salmon sandwich. Experiencing this woman's Natzi behavior was over the top that anyone treated like that would not return I won't for sure too many other amazing neighboring businesses with proper reception and great food. I'm a business owner and cannot imagine speaking to my customers and employees in the manner this person communicates to hers. Wow! Friendly staff, quick service (everything is made to order), and lots of wonderful food options. My husband has bought their salt water taffy every time we've walked into this bakery. I'm obsessed with the smoothies, especially the mango smoothie. My favorite breakfast order is the egg and cheese with extra cheese on a croissant. The baked goods? Lovely. But no amount of buttercream or flakey crust is worth enduring the sheer hostility that radiates from the top. During a recent attempt to order a cake (over the phone, mind you--not exactly an unusual request for a bakery), I was met with a sharp and dismissive: "I'm really busy right now. Call back after 11." No hello. No apology. Just pure, unfiltered contempt. It's one thing to be overwhelmed. It's another to make customers feel like an inconvenience for trying to support your business. The owner's demeanor is so chronically rude, it borders on aggressive--like she's doing you a favor by allowing you to buy something. If you value kindness, respect, or even basic courtesy, you might want to skip this place. No one deserves to be treated the way she treats her customers--or, frankly, her staff. It's a testament to Noel, Ashley, and the rest of the team that anything functions at all under such management. There are plenty of bakeries that make great pastries and know how to treat people. We grabbed a dozen fresh donuts from Tullio's while on vacation this week! Truthfully, we planned to order from duck donuts which had a 2 hour wait around 8:30 AM on a Thursday... New York prices. Walmart quality. Not a great combination! Ordered a custom birthday cake from Tullio's - chocolate cake with buttercream icing. Appearance of the cake was excellent, but the cake itself could have easily been created by a commercial bakery (such as Walmart). The buttercream filling was good, but the baker used a greasy, Crisco-like icing similar to what you find in pre-packaged cakes. Service was really bad. The cake decorator had a major attitude -- both when I ordered over the phone, and when I went to pick up the cake. She was very nasty. In addition, the cake was late in being made. I traveled 30 minutes from Corolla to Duck to get the cake, only to be told that it wasn't ready and I should come back "later". In fairness, we did not sample any of the bakery items at the counter. If you are looking for a custom made cake, you should look elsewhere. read more

We drove to Duck for this place and it wasn't all that great. Decent bagels but the coffee was lacking. Staff aren't very friendly by that may be the NY attitude. Seating is limited and the outside seating is slim at best. My wife didn't feel welcome and some of the staff were a little overbearing. Upside is a large selection of pastries. read more

Tullíos was a cool little bakery that we tried for dessert one night will in duck. Although I didn't go in the store or pick up the dessert, the people I was with that did said the service was good and pricing was fair. As for the cupcakes themselves, the red velvet one was pretty good. They nailed the red velvet flavoring. The carrot cake one was also super good. That one was my favorite, the frosting paired super nicely with the carrot cake base. The vanilla one was exactly what you'd think a vanilla cupcake would be, nothing special. The chocolate one is very very chocolatey. It smacks you in the face. For me I like chocolate but not that much. The cupcakes were decent in size and the ratio of frosting to cake was exactly hot it should be. I think this shop is something you should try if you are in Duck! Make sure to try the carrot cake one! read more

I was a little disappointed with my cake. It was a special order birthday cake and very expensive. Over $100 for 1/2 sheet. They charge for each color. Cake comes with just white icing. I only requested 2 colors. The icing was buttercream but could taste the oiliness a bit greasy. In comparison to the big box warehouse stores the price is 2.5 times higher. read more

There's apparel for sale and a number of cases displaying cakes, cheesecakes, breakfast pastries and cookies. We got donuts and a lobster tail pastry which were all excellent. The lobster tail is a flaky, crispy on the outside soft on the inside, pastry overflowing with chilled cream puff cream. Very decadent and satisfying! Tullio's is always a family favorite stop of ours when we come to Duck! We love starting our day with one of their breakfast sandwiches, my husband gets the flame thrower on a cheddar biscuit and I get a pork roll, egg, and cheese on a croissant. This year our daughter was old enough to pick out her own treat and she loved the sprinkle donuts! We also always get a box of pastries to sample as well which usually include the cream cheese cinnamon bun, chocolate croissants, cheese and fruit danishes, donuts, and cookies. My favorites this year were the glazed cronuts and pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies. Their bagels and cream cheeses are also delicious and I love the unique flavors of cream cheese that they offer. Another amazing part about this bakery is definitely the sweet and welcoming owners and their staff. They make you feel like family each time you visit and are so warm and lovely. I have been to Tullio's twice in one week! I'm excited to keep going back so I can try it all! My first trip I had the baconator on an Asiago bagel...it was delicious, the bagel was AMAZING! I also had a cronut and a cold brew. The next trip, I got a bacon egg and cheese on a pepperoni roll! My mouth is in heaven! The service is always fast and friendly, too! Meh. They seem to do a busy local special order/takeout business for cakes, so that's a good sign. But I asked about custom cookies and the young man working there said they don't do that. A friend had recommended this bakery a while back, so I stopped in when I was in the area. I chose a ricotta lemon cookie, chocolate eclair, and maple bacon donut, to have a variety to try. Sadly, none of them were super special and didn't really cure my sweet craving. Five stars though, because I believe true Italian pastries are not supposed to be super-sweet. read more

I will start by saying that there are no prices marked on anything because they keep changing, so ask if you are concerned. Breakfast sandwiches are around nine dollars each. We got them twice during the week should tell you something. We also bought some little tarts and bread that were excellent. I went back during the week to get more bread since my dad enjoyed it so much toasted. They are a well-oiled machine, so don't be dissuaded by the line should there be one. The way that I will go to tullios for a breakfast sandwich daily when I'm in town is hurting my wallet but making my stomach (and heart!) happy. The staff has always been kind to me and even at their busiest they ensure I get my order, and properly too! I always grab my things to-go and therefore forego the outdoor seating area, though it is appreciated I'm sure by the people walking around Duck that want a spot to sit and eat their baked goods. My go-to order is the hashtag on a bagel with ghost pepper cheese. The cheese is spicy, and they tell you that on the menu. Multiple times over the years I've heard people come back in complaining that it's too hot for them, and they in turn get pointed to the menu (as they should). As a gal who loves spicy, I think it's a huge hit and I love that it's an option! I'm not crazy about the coffee, but I don't go for the coffee so that isn't part of my personal rating. We got our wedding cake here and it was absolutely AMAZING!! Delicious! All the guests agreed it was one if the best tasting wedding cakes they had ever had. We ordered chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream filling and iced in almond flavored buttercream. The piped decorations were so beautiful. We chose to add sugar flowers we ordered off Etsy but the plain cake would have been more than beautiful enough on its own! Dawn was very easy to work with, just keep in mind that they are a VERY BUSY bakery during the summer season and so she cannot take cake orders before noon.
