Overall what a great experience! Very nice ambiance and everything was delicious! The sweet potato gnocchi was fantastic, the pumpkin malfatti was sweet and delicious, and the butternut squash soup was very tasty. I had a bite of the scallops which were cooked well and had an amazing butternut purée. The tagliatelle was fantastic and the ribeye was very tender and well seasoned. For dessert we had this amazing pistachio semifreddo with a sweet orange sauce and the decadent chocolate budino with caramel and raspberry sauce that was to die for! We've been here many times, and it never disappoints. We always reserve the chef's counter, a very romantic getaway for two. In addition to the personal attention from the chefs, you get a great view of every entree in the house. Even when we declined dessert, we got dessert and nearly licked the plate clean in spite of being full (orange something or other with homemade orange candy, shaved chocolate, etc.). We had a salted fish amuse, sweet potato gnocchi, chanterelle risotto, "ears" (Italian pasta dish name starting with "O") with a wonderful sausage, Pinot and the dessert. Would get every single item again, favorites were the ears and dessert. Thanks especially to Dominic and crew, you all do a great job! Tulio is the best italian restaurant in downtown seattle! Excellent food and excellent customer service. I have never been to this place before but a coworker had recommended tulio. I chose tgis place for my proposal with my fiance. Lets just sau they treated us like kings and queen. I had told Jared the host before hand while making my reservation my plan to propose. My husband and I visited Tulio to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary after having an absolutely perfect rehearsal dinner there 3 years earlier. We were beyond thrilled with our experience- from the service, the food, the atmosphere- everything was perfect, once again! Throughout the evening, we were personally greeted by name and congratulated by just about everyone working that night! For the entree, ordered the Kurobota pork shank - melt in your mouth, falling of the bone, incredibly tasty. 2 glasses of the pinot grigio which was OK. Service was very good. Sat in a booth. Reminded me of countless restaurants in NYC. I was pleasantly surprised by Tulio. This had to be one of the best meals I have had, rivaling meals at better known and pricier restaurants. I did have a mixed experience there when I went with my boyfriends family and they mixed up a few orders (I wanted a coffee liquer drink, and he gave me something that was cold and small, not anything like I described. Despite that, I love the food there (the potato gnocchi is incredible!) and I would love to go there again soon. Overall good food but limited italian menu. We had the linguini with clams, more clams then pasta. Hard to find the linguini and the clams were very small and all in the shells. Great deal of work but the pasta was good. My wife had the chicken with risotto. The chicken had a good flavor but a bit dry. Rissoto was very good. We had glass of wine each and the bread and olive oil served with the meals. We also had the mussels which were good and tasty although a few were not open and not eatable. We came here for my wife's birthday and we had a great time. She had: -Proscuitto di Parma (Rosemary poached pears, mt Townsend seastack, arugula, olive oil), which was delicious, sweet and savory with wonderful texture. -Ravioli (Smoked salmon, celery root, herbs, lemon cream), which upon first glance, we thought "only 3...?" but I quickly realized that it any more would've been too rich. It reminded me of a savory crepe I had with lox and cream cheese, which again, was delicious. -Lamb sirloin (Fregola sarda, castelvetrano olives, currant, mint, basil yogurt), y wife loved it (I also got a taste), the meat was super lean but also very tender, the currants gave a slight sweetness and when combined with the basil yogurt, it made for a unique (heavenly, really) taste. I had: -Arugula salad (Crispy prosciutto, hard-boiled egg, lemon dressing), which was easily one of the best salad, the lemon dressing had just the right amount of tang to it. -(also had the ravioli, refer to above) -Ribeye (Dry aged 28 days, porcini salted potatoes, gorgonzola dolce), I generally don't order steak at restaurants but I'm glad I did, the gorgonzola dolce on top of the meat was delicious, combined with the broiled steak and the creamy texture of the gorgonzola was unique and I think it's safe to say I'll probably borrow this idea for when I make steak at home. The desert was out of this world, I had the pistachio semifreddo, AWESOME. My wife had the strawberry rhubarb, which wasn't the greatest but that was made up by the fact that our server brought out the Budino di Cioccolatta (Warm chocolate pudding cake, toasted meringue, raspberry caramel sauce), because he remembered it was my wife's birthday. What an amazing way to finish off an amazing dinner. The food was nothing short of amazing and when combined with the atmosphere of the restaurant it made for a wonderful way to celebrate my wife's birthday dinner. Also our server was Nate, this guy was a great server, he was patient, attentive, and most importantly, knowledgeable. It's funny because he was so quiet, you didn't notice him come up to the table but at no time, did I feel like i had to wait or had to flag him down. Which is funny because we saw the he had other tables to attend to but felt like we were his only guests. Yes, it's a bit pricey but when you take the quality of the food, the presentation, the environment, and the service (which I believe plays a large role in the success of a restaurant) into consideration, this was a value! We had such a lovely experience here! We came to celebrate our one year anniversary and so when we got there they had roses on the table and several staff members told us "Congratulations!" and "Happy Anniversary!" I had the veal and he had the swordfish. Both were killer. In reality, the whole menu looked really wonderful. I'm allergic to gluten and dairy and they were very accommodating and helpful with that. As a 100% Italian (my parents are from Italy and my mother is an exquisite cook), I have to say, this place rocks. Excellent service, and excellent food. Reservations were made and when I called to confirm this afternoon, the manager, who sounds painfully (but fake) interested in your conversation, told me "no reservations under that name. We have one for DECEMBER 18 but that was 2017". He didn't care, NO apology and serious lack of attempts in getting this rectified for tonight. His attitude was "we screwed it up but that's not my problem. Deal with it". We go to this place many times because of its proximity to the office. No more. That attitude was beyond reprehensible. Because they hire people who can't determine the different between DECEMBER AND JANUARY, this establishment has lost any and all credibility. ESPECIALLY because there was ZERO apology. It was really fishy smelling and didn't seem to be fresh at all. Next we ordered the Risotto Chanterelle mushrooms, horseradish crème fraîche... the sauce was really good but the problem was the mushrooms weren't washed very good so there was dirt in our food! We could literally grind the dirt in our teeth! We hoped our main dishes the Chicken roasted, caramelized garlic, sage, lemon risotto was going to be good... but the chicken breast was REALLY dry! Had dinner there today without a reservation. My friend and I were seated in the smallest possible corner. We decided to go because it was recommended to me by a friend. I had the special which was not so special. The halibut was too salty and the tomatoes were so sparse. It really lacked anything worth mentioning. The worst I think was tipping 20 percent for not so great service and then finding out that the waiter CHANGED the amount for his tip. It was just two dollars (no big deal) but it's kind of unnerving when someone else decides what they think they should receive as a tip. On a recent trip to Seattle my hotel concierge recommended Tulio, a few blocks away. The setting was nice, as well as the service, but the food a little disappointing. I started off with a winner--the roasted beet salad with burata cheese and plums. It was original, beautifully presented and tasty, especially accompanied with the restaurant's homemade foccacia. I had high expectations for the second course, but unfortunately the spectacular food stopped with the salad. The roasted chicken was so dry, I left half of it on my plate. I know chicken is an unusual request for an Italian restaurant, however, in Italy it's always perfectly done and flavorful. Their rendition was not. It came with lemon risotto, which actually pushed me toward the dish in the first place, but it was nothing special and not in the least bit creamy. The desserts looked interesting, especially the homemade gelatos, but the waiter convinced me that the chef made an excellent tiramasu. Unfortunately, he doesn't. It's not bad, but its far from great. Having said all of this, I would give the restaurant a second chance, especially since they offer a long list of wonderful wines by the glass. I know some places have a few weak dishes and maybe that's what I chose, however I saw a glimmer of excellence, and would therefore recommend it...just order differently, but keep the salad. read more

Had dinner here last night 11/28/10. Food was good but a little pricey and service was EXTREMELY slow. Dinner took 2 hours and we only had salads and entree. We would have ordered dessert but by the time the server came back to check on us we no longer wished to order. The kitchen did not take long to prepare our food once ordered, it was our server that took forever to take our order, to check back for our dessert order and to settle our check. It was a busy night in the restaurant but our reservation was early, at 5:30 and it was not that busy when we came in. With all the great restaurants to choose from downtown I doubt I will return to Tulio. read more

Our server, Revecca, (not a typo) bent over backwards to make sure every thing was just perfect. And it was!!! Not Impressed! If this is the "best italian restaurant in Seattle" we are going to get taken out by the mafia. Our party had lunch there. I had the PIZZA PROSCIOTTO. It was pita bread baked with a bunch of greens, some shaved parmesan and some prosciutto. No sauce, nothing special...everything fell of the pizza bread when you tried to eat it....a real joke. Went to Tulio for the first time. For starters I had the beet salad. My husband had the mussels. He said his mussels were the best he had ever had. The sauce was rich and flavorful and the mussels were small and delicious. My beet salad was not very good. I was so cold that it was like they had taken it out of the cooler and then put some watercress on top. The feta cheese was in a spicy sauce. Definitely would not reorder it. For our entry I had the manilla clams. The clams and sauce was fantastic. The linguini was a little on the stiff side and mediocre. Just plain noodles in a bowl of great broth with clams. My husband had to pork shank. It just fell off of the bone and was really good. He liked it better than Osso Bucco. It is well worth a dinner. read more

Tulio was great!! I found this place through Trip Advisor and decided to try it with my husband for dinner last night because of the excellent reviews and the fact that they had gluten-free options. (Which can be difficult with Italian restaurants.) We were visiting from out of town, had just returned from an Alaskan cruise. It was a Sunday night and seemed fairly busy but they were able to seat us at a table in the bar area immediately. My husband got a glass of the Riesling wine and even I thought it was good! (Not generally a fan of Riesling.) We both got the gluten-free orecchiette pasta with spicy Italian sausage, marinara, and parmigiano reggiano cheese. Excellent!! It's rare to get GF pasta at a restaurant that is something other than penne or spaghetti. We finished off our meal with the vanilla mousse topped with pistachios and surrounded by fresh berries - fantastic!!! :) Our waiter was attentive and had a good sense of humor, but I don't remember his name. (Older man, grayish hair.) A bit on the pricey side, but you do get what you pay for. It was a superb meal! Definitely recommend Tulio. You'd probably want reservations on a Friday or Saturday night, since even on a Sunday night they seemed busy. read more

Four of went and had appetizers, entrees, desserts, drinks, and oh yeah...bottled "Perrigino" water as opposed to tap. Overall the meal was nice. The arugala salad wasn't seasoned much and the sweet potatoe gnocchi everyone raves about was pretty good if you've never had it. We had two orders of scallops which were pretty good, but how can you mess up dry packed scallops? Quick sear on both sides and away you go. My Pork Shank was sizable, very tender and probably cooked in a pressure cooker to achieve its tenderness, nevertheless, it still lacked flavor. The sauce was pretty runny and the bed of mashed potatoes made the plate look even more sizable. My buddy's ribeye was pretty thin and not very tasty, you would think for it to cost close to $40 it should be fork tender like you'd get from Ruth Christie's Steakhouse. The dessert of lemon/peppered infused gelato was probably the best item of the evening along with a mellow cup of Americano. Overall the meal was very nice, but definitely pretty spendy. Beware, it's like shopping at Whole Foods, it'll cost you your Whole Wallet to eat here. A The service was impeccable, our waiter and waitstaff were on point. We asked about a substitution and he had to ask because the chef apparently has a hissy fit if customers ask for subs. Better tell him to get a clue, the customer's paying his wages! read more

We really enjoyed this place. Swapped it on Open Table in for something more fancy as we weren't in the mood for pretentiousness on our first evening in Seattle. Pretty cool old school atmosphere. Super friendly service from our waiter who also gave us some great pointers on local attractions. Reasonably priced food was awesome! Highlights: Tomato bread soup, Burrata appetizer, pork belly spaghetti, and halibut (chef's seasonal special that night). Desserts were superb also, especially the pecan tart and tiramisu. We just went there last night for a friend's going away. We tried the gnochhi. Pretty good but it was greasy since it looks like it was fried butter or oil. Our friend did this dish for us once at her house but she placed her homemade gnocchi on a papertowel afterwards to soak up some of the butter/oil so it was much better. Overall it was really tasty though. Tried the calamari too. Interesting. I'm not a big fan unless it's been breaded and deep fried so I would probably pass on it in the future. The pork shank and chicken were good. Tried a bite of our friend's veal chop. It was big! It was salty. They lay a big slice of proscuitto or ham over the top and that is extremely salty. After I picked it off the veal, it was much better. The strawberry gelato afterwards was the perfect finish. PS - they have a kids menu and brought out crayons for the little one to use. $5 for a big bowl of pasta with a parm. cheese sauce is not so bad on the kids menu! read more

My husband has raved about Tulio's for years. Now I understand why! Great service, fantastic food and nice ambiance. The staff works hard to provide an excellent experience. Everyone works together to best serve the customer. We had the mushroom Risotto - creamy and flavorful. Best halibut I have ever had! The halibut was presented pan fried on a bed of couscous with mint, grapes, pine nuts and greens. Yummy! The Pistachio semi-freddo was delightful especially paired with the wine recommended by the manager David, a Maculan Dindarello Moscato Giallo Del Veneto 2011. Looking at the menu I thought I was in for a night of green salad and bread but the waiter (I wish I would have asked his name) was wonderful. The risotto flavor was disguisting and the portion was small enough to be a side plate. Tonight was an amazing dining experience for us. The wonderful front desk person at our hotel mentioned that Tulio is one of her favorite restaurants so we thought we'd give it a try. The only seats were at the chef's counter, and three hours later we felt like we'd made friends for life. The food is outstanding--the pork shank falls off the bone, with a rich flavor that hints of hours of love with the best chard I've ever tasted (think garlic and chicken stock) and mashed potatoes that were creamy without having that whipped-to-death texture. In other words, perfect. The lamb was rich and perfectly cooked and the hearts of romaine salad a thing of beauty. The team of chefs made us feel truly special, offering tasty tidbits, chatting, during the rare times things slowed down, and making us feel like we were the stars of the show. It was one of those magical evenings that we'll talk about for years to come. Oh, and if you have room for dessert, try the semifreddo. Beautiful to behold and as delicious as it looks, with shaved chocolate, candied orange and an amazing citrus-y sauce.. Thank you, Dominic, Corey, Rebecca, Patrick and James. We had our first and likely only dinner ever at Tulio tonight. It wasn't a bad experience, but for the quality of the food, there are plenty of other options around the area where you'll feel your money is better spent. The bright sides of Tulio--they asked several times if we were on a deadline for a show, and the floor manager came by (unfortunately pre-entree) to welcome us. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, though a little loud when it starts to fill up. Arriving, we were seated promptly, and offered menus. I had done extensive research into the offerings and was surprised to see that on their print menu, gluten-free items were not specifically called out, when they have a specific gluten-free menu listed online for lunch and dinner. Service was prompt, but completely without character, humor, or life--I don't need a comedian and I know service is an extremely challenging job, night after night, but our server couldn't even manage a smile. We had the foccacia for our appetizer--I would have described it as more of a cheese filled flatbread, as it bore no resemblance to the fluffy foccacia served with our meal. Our entrees arrived with a reasonable break after our appetizer. My husband ordered the ribeye, and I ordered the pork shank. The ribeye was extremely fatty, and a poor cut, especially for the price ($33 for something he could only eat about half of). The only accompaniment were a few roasted fingerling potatoes. The pork shank arrived as a giant Fred Flintstone hulking bone surrounded by whipped potatoes. While it did fall off the bone at the touch of the fork, it was incredibly bland--there was no "pork" flavor to it. It could easily have been cafeteria turkey. The potatoes were ok--the best part of the entree was the sautéed greens. Our server seemed extremely disappointed when we declined dessert. He never asked us how our meal was, other than "were things cooked as you ordered". For two entrees, one appetizer, and 2 cocktails+two glasses of wine, we racked up $130. Overall I was just underwhelmed by the quality of the food, and the overall service. Tulio could be great--they may just need a reboot, or we were there on an off night, but the price tag will prohibit us from giving them another try. read more

We had dinner here on a Saturday night for a reserved table for ten family members. Service was timely, but not hurried and cordial without being obsequious. We had a variety of appetizers, salads, pasti and secondi as well as coffee, espresso and desserts. Everything was exceptional: fresh, aromatic and suitably complex. Salad greens were crisp, un-wilted and not bitter. Risotto with morels was perfectly cooked and rich with marrow butter. Shellfish, poultry and red meats all arrived simultaneously and exactly done.
