Very delicious stuff, and great quality products, which is why they are a little pricey. But the (very courteous!) staff work in S-L-O-O-O-W M-O-O-O-T-I-O-O-O-N, which makes for a rather frustrating wait. To be fair, the wait times have improved. Either way, it hasn't stopped me from returning! -- My First Impression --- I was in the line for 50 minutes and was really hoping that Tsujiri wasn't over rated. Given their price for a sundae cup was so expensive, I had a really high expectation for the ice-cream. I was planning to order a Tsujiri opera cake and a Shiratama Sundae. By the time I got into the store, I noticed the opera cake was sold out. They could have put a "sold out" sticker over the opera cake image in the menu outside the store so customers won't be wasting their time in line. The store only had 4 tables (3 tables for 2 guests and 1 big table for 6 guests) which were clearly not enough. I couldn't find a space to eat/ take picture of my ice-cream. -- Food & Drink -- I ended up ordered the Shiratama Sundae with Matcha ice-cream. There was a thin layer of matcha ice-cream in the bottom, then top up with a layer of red bean paste and 2 mochi and was finished with matcha ice-cream and 3 mochi on top. I loved their matcha ice-cream since I could actually taste the bitterness of the matcha powder. Their red bean paste was sweet and it balanced out the bitterness of the matcha ice-cream. I like how the almond powders added some flavors to the mochi since the mochi was tasteless. However, I don't like how they layered the mochi between the red bean paste and the ice-cream. The mochi became rock hard and I couldn't even chew them. The texture was so bad that I just wanted to spit it out. -- Overall -- I will come back after the hype is over. I think I will only be back just for the matcha ice-cream (maybe with the red bean paste as well) but definitely not the mochi. read more

Tsujiri was up to my expectations!! I got the matcha and vanilla swirl soft serve. The soft serve was very milky and melted in my mouth. It wasn't too sweet and the sweeter waffle cone really made the whole thing work. The soft serve melted too quickly in my opinion; it could have been a bit more creamier. But I think that is the 'japanese' style. It was a bit pricy, the ice cream cost $6.50. I would recommend coming here if you like matcha (green tea) flavoured desserts! TIP: Go during the weekdays! I went yesterday (Thursday) late afternoon and the wait was only 5 minutes. I have heard that people wait for 2 hours in line for their desserts!! So go early or during a weekday :) read more

This place is expensive, no doubt. It's not your average "$2 budget soft serve cone" so don't expect to come here without the mental preparation of spending the equivalent to a decent cafteria meal. However, that being said, I found the matcha soft serve cone here to be delicious!! :D I've had awesome green tea ice cream before, but this is the first time I've found such authentic matcha tasting soft serve! Despite being a tiny store, the atmosphere is cute and if you get lucky like I did, you get to "experience" the traditional Japanese culture of sitting at a ground-level table where you get to dangle your feet under. (Note: there is only one of these tables) My boyfriend ordered the chiffon cake sundae and commented that it was good as well. The only thing he regretted was getting the matcha daifuku, which cost a whole whopping $5 by the way. Yes, the flavours were fine, again, very authentic ingredients, but the texture was just off-putting. Way too creamy and gooey. The mochi skin was very sticky and everything kinda just blended together into one big mush in your mouth. I also think it would be too "heavy" and too much for one person to eat on their own. All in all, I wouldn't mind coming back once in a while when I want to treat myself on a hot summer day :) read more

I'm the crazy person who's willing to spend more on their dessert than their actual meal. I got here around 9pm and line was relatively short, less than 5 minutes to order and about another 5 minutes to get my order. I appreciate the fact that the store accepts credit, which isn't the case with a lot of Asian places. I got the shaved ice with matcha ice cream, everything tasted amazing. The matcha tasted quality and was probably some of the best matcha I've ever had. However my favourite part was probably the mochi pieces, I wish they gave more. If you're a dessert fanatic or just love matcha, I'd recommend checking out the place. There isn't much seating inside, there's a small booth that seats about 6 people and 3 standing tables, so I would recommend just taking your item to go. Be careful though, some of their items are dine in only, like their matcha tea. Get their shaved ice, you get more bang for your buck compared to the sundae! read more

Good Japanese matcha dessert spot. I went on a weekday morning so no lineup and service was decent. The matcha soft serve (cone) was very good - not too sweet nor bitter. I wish the cone was sweeter though. I also had the mochi cup (w matcha ice cream and red bean paste), where the ice cream goes very well with the peanut butter powder. But the mochi was tasteless... Although it was crunchy and all, I would like it to have some flavour. Overall it's a good dessert. read more

Everytime when I pass this icecream shop, there are big group of people line up. Finally I joined them and waited for around 15 mins for my green tea icecream. To be honest,it's not as good as I expected. Comparing to other Canadian icecream,it's not that creamy and sweet. Not my type. Maybe this is how Japanese icecream should be. The Tsujiri Sundae is pretty darn good. There were so many surprises in this treat. There's too much to describe so I'm going to try my best. Let's start with the pink cherry blossom cookie. It was almost too pretty to eat but the salty flower bud in the middle was a nice contrast to the matcha tea. The mochi doughball and chestnut were delicious toppings as well. The texture of the mochi ball is like tapioca. The chestnut had a unique nutty flavour. As you make your way down, you get some sweet red bean and finally some brown rice crunch. If you're a fan of Japanese brown rice tea, you'll love the crunch. I enjoyed every bit of this sundae. $8.50 (tax included) is a little pricey but I can understand why. There were lots going on in this small cup. I gave them 4 stars out of 5 because it's the only thing I've had. Can't wait to check out their other items. read more

Went there for the second time yesterday and had a slightly better experience than the first. The first time I went was when it just opened and they only took cash. My friends and I ordered a few things to try: two of their sundaes, the macaron, cream puff and the matcha soft serve on a cone. I am a huge fan of Matcha and the ice cream had a strong matcha taste which I really enjoyed. But the soft serve was so tiny for the price they charge. The sundaes had toppings on them that were way too sweet and it sort of overpowered the flavour of the ice cream. The macaron wasn't that great because it didn't have a strong matcha taste to it. Also, the line up was pretty long, had to wait over 20 minutes. But that was sort of expected since the place just opened. Yesterday when I went for the second time, I only ordered the tsujiri soft serve on a cone. This time I realized the portion size of the ice cream got much bigger! (See photos below for reference) I was happy to see how much bigger it got but I was sort of annoyed that I was ripped off the first time I came here. My friend ordered the soft serve in a cup which was the same price as the cone but we realized that the portion size was slightly smaller. I also noticed that the ice cream melts so much faster than regular ice cream and it wasn't even hot outside. By the time I got my ice cream to walking about 20-30 steps away from the store, the ice cream was already dripping down my hands from the cone. I didn't notice this during my first visit but the portion size was so small that time that I probably finished it before it even had a chance to melt. Overall I think the tsujiri soft serve on a cone is worth the price here but I'm not sure about the other stuff. If you get the sundaes, you're just paying extra for the toppings which aren't anything special. Even though this place is sort of pricey, I think I would still come back again because the matcha soft serve tastes a lot better than some of the other places I've tried. read more

I was expecting Tsujiri to have way higher reviews! I went to Tsujiri on a cold rainy day with my coworkers for the first time about 2 weeks ago (in March). I was surprised that most of the items on the menu were sold out! The place was quite busy for such a cold day. I got their Shiratama Matcha Parfait as I heard the ice cream itself is a bit bitter and you need to balance it with their sweet red beans. I loved it!!! The ice cream is so smooth and creamy and has a really nice balance of sweet and bitter flavours. It was not too bitter to my taste at all. The mochi rice balls on top of the ice cream lacked flavour but they added a nice chewey texture to it. I really liked them. One of my friends got their Houjicha ice cream which was sweeter than mine and the flavour was quite unique. I will get that one next time just to compare between the two ice cream flavours. The only reason I am deducting a star is because one of my coworkers/friends got their 'matcha shaved ice' and it was extremely bitter with intense matcha flavours at the end. She was not able to finish it. I think you will really like this place if you are careful about what you order and do your research beforehand. - If you like bitter flavours, go with the shaved ice. - If you like a mix between sweet and bitter, get one of their matcha parfaits. - If you really don't like bitter at all, go with their Houjicha menu. read more

L O C A T I O N On the corner of Dundas St W and Center Eliabeth St. This establishment is VERRRRYYYY cozy. With a few tables and one bigger table further back. This place is not good for hanging out unless you get the coveted back table. F O O D //Sakura Parfait// (7.50) Soft serve matcha parfait with genmai (brown rice), shiratama (mochi), azuki bean (red bean), and a sakura cookie. The pinkness of the sakura cookie balances well with the greeness of the matcha. My favorite part of the parfait has to be the genmai. It adds a roasted nuttiness to the soft serve and it was yummy. //Shiratama Parfait// (7.50) Just like the name, it has shiratama (mochi) and it comes with azuki beans. This one is simpler compared to the Sakura Parfait but you can taste the matcha more. S E R V I C E The workers here were prompt. There were a couple customers ahead of my group, so it wasn't a long wait. When I asked what the brown rice thing was in my Sakura Parfait to one of the cashier she didn't know and had to ask another more seasoned co-worker. Otherwise it was a good interaction. O V E R A L L If you are a matcha fan then this place is awesome. BUUUUUT if you like to chill and hangout while enjoying your matcha I suggest elsewhere. This place is verrrrrryyy small and tables are tall and uncomfortable. I can see why this place got negative reviews because of the size of this establishment. I wish that the menu had more descriptions on the items because it was hard knowing what you're getting or what the item is from the picture. The matcha is on the pricey side, so it's a good treat once in a-while. I'd probably come back and get their soft serve again, but would avoid during sunny days and weekends. read more

Soft serve ice cream is delicious. I recommend the vanilla matcha twist as the pure matcha ice cream can be a bit strong. The vanilla adds the perfect amount of creaminess to the matcha flavour. To be honest, the line up doesn't have to be as long as it usually is. The employees, although very nice, have no sense of efficiency. They would pick things up and put things down without actually making anything. They would have 3 people working on 1 thing keeping other things unmade, causing an unnecessary wait time that could be easily fixed with more proper training of staff. Tldr: soft serve ice cream is amazing, wait time unnecessarily long read more

TSUJIRI Food: 4 stars All aboard the hype train! This place was packed, had to wait a good hour for the infamous matcha soft-serve on matcha shaved ice. The soft-serve was delicious, milky while rich in matcha flavor. The mochi wad a nice addition as well, adding a texture to it. There's one that's egg flavored which is my personal favorite. The red bean paste was slightly towards to sweeter side. And last but not least, the shaved ice. It wasn't very special to be honest and i could live with out it, but it was nice to have more to chew on before you done your dessert ;) Would recommend to go, but not when its crazy busy. Maybe when the rush dies down, and there's no line ups. Location/Ambiance: 4 stars This place is very well lit, and heavily decorated with wood, giving off a traditional yet modern japanese vibe. They don't have a lot of space to sit, a mere three tables for the occasional sit down guests. They make the dessert right in front of you which i always love. Its like you're playing for the food and a show. There's plenty of great food places around so i'd definitely suggest coming here for a quick soft serve after dinner! Service: 5 stars Though slow, the service was very pleasant and friendly. As far as I see, they put in alot of effort while making your dessert to ensure it looks pretty and clean. Price: 3 stars Around 7-10 dollars per item. Slightly pricey, especially the mochi balls. Still whin a reasonable range but I have other places I'd go for this pricing. Parking: 3 stars Located on 147 Dundas Street. Within walking distance on eaton center. Parking is very limited. 3.5/5, +.5 for service Yeah, the lines are long and once you're inside it gets chaotic. However if you know this famous Japanese company you can understand the craze behind it, and many people are indeed excited at the fact Tsujiri has opened a store in Toronto (let alone Canada). Tsujiri is famous for their matcha, with focus towards their sundaes. They run out very quick, so do keep that in mind. I ordered the shiratama sundae (one of the last ones on a Sunday at around 9pm) and the tsujiri float. The line itself was only about 20 minutes, but the waiting time to get my order was another 30 minutes, so total time spent in this place was about an hour. Their sundae was, indeed, very good. It's quite small in size, but the quality was certainly there. The tsujiri float was also good, although a little bit too strong of matcha taste for my liking. The prices are a bit on the high side, but this is probably the only place in the downtown core that offers these kind of items so it's understandable from an economics point of view. Service was excellent considering the employees were obviously overworked. As for the lineups...personally, wait till the hype dies down. Uncle Tetsu had several months of 1+ hour lineups, but nowadays you're rarely waiting more than 30 minutes. I think 30 minutes is reasonable for this place, but anything more I wouldn't bother. Also, if there's no seating available, take your food/drinks over to the Atrium. Lots of seating there. read more

OK I finally caved into the hype and tried this spot. Luckily I was there at an off peak hour so was not subjected to any long wait. I went for the sundae (with lychee, chest nut, rice cracker, red bean center and base of rice) For a soft serve this is priced on the higher side. I chose the mix flavored one so got to try both. Vanilla was OK. The Matcha was good and I assume they use a lot of it as it did leave a lingering taste. I personally don't like the desserts with these taste profiles/region so my review is a bit biased. I would say try it if you like matcha and soft serve otherwise not worth the wait or price IMO. From what I understand the Uncle Tetsu offering nearby is quite similar so kind of a toss up between the two. read more

Green tea to the max. It's so good my husband basically scoffs at other green tea anything now. Aiyaaa....the lines! Them lines! I was so super excited for the opening of this matcha specialty dessert joint from Japan (and I even messaged their facebook page prior asking in overly excited crazy caps "ARE U GUYS OPEN YET??" Anyhow, I made my way there I think the 4th or 5th day they just opened in the evening ish and already a line. Ok, no problem, probably another 20-30 min? NOPE I was waiting there for 90 minutes (give or take) with my boyfriend hoping to taste the beautiful desserts pictured on their main website. I ordered the matcha chiffon sundae and my boyfriend ordered the mixed soft serve which is a combo of vanilla and matcha flavor ice cream in a cone. Pretty steep considering the size and all, but you know how it goes. Japanese products...pretty much anything Japanese will usually be expensive and considered high-end, quality etc. They had ran out of the popular signature sundae with the sakura cookie, and I believe the cream puff? I can't remember. So I opted for the chiffon sundae. It was definitely good! It had some rice krispies (?) crunchy, a smallish green tea cake, and of course the ice cream with other goodness. Loved the layers and mix of textures. I tried the soft serve too, and very tasty as well. I mean I find with matcha desserts, you can either make it good, or horribly wrong. No in between. Like oysters. You either hate it or love it. I definitely find it easy to f*** up green tea desserts too , because I've had pretty not so special tasting ones. Overall, very good, not disappointed. HOWEVER, I refuse to wait another 90 minutes in line like that for a dessert that size, that price, etc. Sorry, the wait just trumps everything. I recommend going wayyyyy before it opens, camping out or something, so you won't wait 3000 years to get a matcha dessert. But, yes I loved it! I would say, try it once just for experience. But I cannot be a regular...that's for sure... read more

I came here for dessert after work at 6PM and was surprised to not see a line. Apparently this was due to the fact that the chalkboard outside said that they were all out of sundae, even though they actually serving it inside. Be warned, they may run out of ingredients by the end of the day. I didn't like the Shiratama Sundae that much. I think the mochi really detracted from sundae overall. I did however like the matcha soft serve and thought that it tasted like the real deal. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with this. I'd probably be better off ordering the soft serve instead. The Chiffon Cake sundae was pretty good because there was actual cake and red bean in it. If you don't like red bean, I'd advise you to stay away from this. I thought that it did taste pretty good overall if you were eating it all together: the mixture of red bean, chiffon cake, matcha soft serve made for a great combination. Overall, I thought it was pretty good, but it would not lineup to eat this. I'd probably only go if I was craving soft serve matcha. read more

I'm kind of a matcha addict, so when my friend told me about this place I had to check it out. We were smart and went on an off hour (right at 12:20pm). We definitely beat the rush because on our way our we already saw a small line forming. Be aware that you'll most likely be enjoying your treat outside because seating is especially limited, totaling maybe 4 tables. So here the nitty gritty of it. I ordered the Tsujiri sundae. One of my first complaints, that seems to be the same of others was the pricing. I paid about $8.50 for this baby. That's about equivalent to 4 sundaes at McDonalds. So the question is, was it worth $8.50? I mean I guess you could justify that its the price of the "high quality matcha" but I highly doubt it works out to be that much. So to answer the question simply. No, it is not worth $8.50. The toppings are some rice balls, some over sweet red bean probably from a can and a little bit of corn cereal crunch on the bottom, which I actually wasn't a huge fan of, texturally and taste-wise. So you ask, what did I like? I liked the actual matcha soft serve itself, no toppings, nada. So stick to your staples, simple is definitely the way to go. Especially if you don't like things too sweet. I personally prefer matcha minimally sweetened because I actually like the bitter taste. Another improvement I think they could make is having descriptions of the items on the menu. I understand that its japanese and unique and all crazy and stuff, but honestly - they are forgetting the fact that they are in Toronto, regardless if they are located in the self proclaimed neighbourhood of "Little Japan", Descriptions are necessary, considering that when the staff is asked they aren't very enthusiastic about it, neither are they very clear. Its honestly quite hard to hear through the thick accent and muffled voice. So my friend and I just ordered on the fly. All in all - I can say that I've been, and I would probably go again, but I wouldn't hesitate to turn around if I saw a line of more than 10 people. And I'm also sticking with the basics next time and ordering a plain matcha soft serve. read more

I got the shiratama sundae, which is basically Mochi balls, ice cream, and red bean. The matcha is set at medium flavouring level. I wanted heavy. The ice cream itself was soft and flavourful but the Mochi balls didn't have too much flavouring. The red bean added a new touch. I've been to Tsujiri twice and both my experiences were okay. The first time I went, I had to wait in line for approximately 40 mins, but the second time I was just able to walk in. They have a wide variety of menu items from the regular soft serve to floats to shaved ice. The first time I went, I ordered the Tsujiri Sundae. I think the reason why the prices are more higher is because of the quality of the ice cream. I love the bright green colour from the matcha and you can really taste the rich green tea flavour. I'm not sure how I liked the sundae though, there was a layer of rice krispy chips which I wasn't a huge fan of, it tasted like gasoline. I did really like the chestnut and rice cake that was beautifully placed on top. There was a pink flower edible decoration that I ate, but had to spit it out right away. The second time I ordered a regular soft serve in a cup which was really tasty. If you're looking for some high quality green tea ice cream, Tsujiri is the place to go. read more

With so many soft serve and matcha cafe's popping up lately, it's hard to know what's good or bad out there without spending my hard earned money. A photo can say 1000 words but really, it doesn't have taste-o-vision , and food that looks amazing ...a lot of the time is a disappointment to my tastebuds. Tsujuri definitely had a lot of social media press since opening this year in May (just when Toronto is going through a matcha craze).....but I had tried Uncle Tetsu Green Tea Cafe's soft serve ice cream awhile back and while it had good ice cream flavour , it was icy rather then creamy. I was hesitant to try Tsujuri because I didn't want to be disappointed again , but after rave reviews all the time I had to try it for myself. It did not disappoint. :-) It's creamy, with great matcha flavour ...with a very pleasant aftertaste of decent quality matcha. The waffle cone was pleasant as well, not to thick, stayed crunchy throughout . I will definitely be back again and again. read more

So addicted to Tsujiri that I come here a few times a week since they opened! Having tried most of their menu items, I've concluded that their Canadian specials are meh. Had high expectations when I ordered their matcha black sesame latte but ended up very disappointed with the sugar overload. It was so sweet that I tossed out a third of the drink. Will stick to my favorite Tsujiri float! Onto their cakes... Not sure if the matcha Mille Crepe Cake is another Canadian special or not, as I don't recall seeing it in Kyoto. Texture is okay but totally lacking sweetness. Felt like I was spooning matcha powder mixed into crepe stacks... If you're thinking Lady M, you're better off passing on this item! Or you'll end up being as disappointed as I am! Millie's make much better (and comparatively cheaper) crepe cakes! Tsujiri's $9.32 tax in. If I feel like getting cake, I'll stick to the Chiffon Cake Sundae. The cake tends to be too dry on its own. Adding soft serve makes it moist and palatable. And the corn flakes give it an interesting texture. The Tsujiri sundae is good too, except I don't enjoy the genmai (toasted brown rice) bits at the bottom. Shiratama doesn't measure up to Tsujiri's Japanese counterparts, order it if you must and see for yourself. Short of change? They now take cash/debit. read more

Amazing matcha soft serve. It's really creamy and rich with matcha flavor. my absolutely favorite thing here is the matcha daifuku! The skin is super thin and the cream has a really good matcha flavor. I've also had their matcha which they only serve there. Make sure you secure a seat before you order it. Unfortunately I tend to go here late passed 8pm on weekends so they are usually out of the daikufu by then. I have seen this place have long lines so expect that there might be some waiting. Must try: Chiffon Cake Sundae I wanted to try this place before it became so popular, and almost didn't want to after it blew up (not literally, of course) ... I was obviously sceptical, is it really THAT good? Turns out it's good, but not quite good enough to warrant the huge lines. I went on a day when it was icy and cold, so no lines for me. What they are going for is matcha infused goodness, and they do it well. The tea flavour is strong but not overwhelming, it was earthy bordering nutty. A very enjoyable, guilt-free option as far as sweets go. The Chiffon Cake Sundae is a real treat. Aside from the soft serve, there is also a good chunk of green tea chiffon cake. When it soaks up the melting ice cream, it's quite delicious (I know people people who don't like their food getting soggy, so this would not be for them). To me the highlight was actually cornflakes with matcha ice cream, something about the crunchiness and the leafy flavour works well together. The red bean ball was alright, I tolerated its existence in my medley of flavours. The Shiratama sundae was alright, I'm personally not a big fan of Mochi, and the soy bean flake thingy they put on it tickles my throat. Overall it's a good treat, but I think I was way more excited by the creativity of the Sweet Jesus soft serve or the variety of Bang Bang ice cream to be overly blown away by this new introduction. This is one of my go-to place when I'm craving something matcha. This little shop in the heart of downtown Toronto on Dundas Street is approximately 5 min walk from the Toronto Eaton's Centre. Tsujiri is a snug, buzzing spot in the warm weather with limited seating. They serve matcha-infused teas, ice cream & pastries. I finally got the chance to try the O-Matcha Float with the Houjicha ice cream (Roasted brown rice flavour) and it was delicious. The Houjicha has the perfect sweet note which compliments the green tea slush on the bottom. If this is your first time, I highly recommend their sundaes. I also recommend a hot green tea latte beverage on a cold day to be paired with their green tea cake or the green tea puff pastry which will not disappoint. read more

Very tasty matcha treats here. This might not be for everyone because I find that matcha has a very strong green tea flavour that may be too strong for some. The matcha parfait is my usual go to but today I felt like some else, I ended up getting a matcha float today. The float is also delicious and a bit of crunch from the crushed ice that they use to make the float. It's usually pretty busy here but today I went in just before noon and no one was here yet which was a bonus for me. If you got a taste for strong Japanese matcha this is the spot for you. read more

Haven't meet my friend in 5 years and decided to come here to meet up. A very cute small set up. Further in the back you can sit in a japanes tatami style room. With a small table and you can chat and hang with friends. They have tall booths for people coming in pairs perfect for us. I dont rmber what I ordered but it tasted soooo good. They wisk the matcha fresh and make them on the spot. The matcha icecream top was so very leafy and sweat. The drink was nice and savoury. Would buy again 10/10 read more

Had the adzuki bean and matcha ice-cream. It was alright, definitely needed more adzuki beans in this dessert. The matcha ice-cream was great though. read more

Yum! I didn't even get anything special given they have some outrageous looking sundaes but I wanted to just end with something sweet. The stuff here all looked slamming. I got the matcha and vanilla soft serve swirl. It was perfect! The matcha definitely needs the vanilla to balance it out so it doesn't taste too earthy/grassy. The vanilla is just the lightest amount of sweetness and creaminess to make the matcha still shine but be a subtle, inviting flavor. Really enjoyed it. Would love to try more here. read more

Had the yuzu matcha float. Tasted amazing. Great flavours from both the yuzu slush and matcha soft serve. But I think it's just a little pricey for the size. Great place to catch up with a friend as an alternative to grabbing a coffee. Would come again! read more
