I LOVE MATCHA!!! When I heard about this new cafe and seeing the pictures of the long lineups, I went with the expectation of waiting. We were about 10 people from the front door and there was still a line that went inside. We started waiting at 3pm. We got inside to order at around 3:40pm and finally received our desserts and drinks at 4:00pm. Aside from the 1 hour total wait time, the desserts and drinks were, for the most part, delicious. My friends and I ordered the following: 1) Houjicha Milk Float: It was a houjicha (type of tea that is reminiscent of roasted milk tea) slush with soft serve on top (we got the twist of matcha and vanilla, but you can get just vanilla or just matcha). You can drink it with a straw and eat it with your spoon, but it was really refreshing and the roasted milk tea flavour was a perfect post-meal treat. 2) Shiratama Sundae: It came with 3 mojis, red bean paste, some oatmeal, and the matcha soft serve. The treat overall was too sweet because the red bean paste was really sweet, which really took away from the medium degree of matcha flavour that was in the soft serve. The mojis were on the bland side, but the oatmeal added a good crunch. This wasn't my favourite item. 3) Black Sesame Matcha Latte: It was an interesting flavour combination and while the initial taste had the medium, almost strong matcha flavour, it was soon completely overwhelmed by the black sesame flavour. It was still enjoyable, but I wish the flavour combination yielded less black sesame. 4) O-Matcha Tea: Think of this as your strong matcha espresso shot. It came in the smallest cup from the store and it was whisked with a matcha whisk. This was just tea - no milk. I love my matcha strong and bitter, and this is exactly what you can expect from the o-matcha tea. Delicious! 5) O-Matcha Creampuff: I was surprised at how the matcha flavour in this puff came out so strong, but I was also surprised with the vanilla or whipped cream that was also in there. I'm not a fan of whipped cream, so that took me aback a little. The portion is a bit on the smaller side, so while it was good, I don't think I would pay $2.75 every visit. All in all, the treats and drinks were mostly above average and the matcha tastes authentic. The decor included a tatami mat table in the back with a few side tables that could fit 2 people at a time. You can see exactly what is happening with your food as it is an open concept setting. If you don't mind the wait, I would definitely recommend trying it out! FYI - CASH ONLY! If you're going to wait that long, you better have some cash on you! read more

I'm the crazy person who's willing to spend more on their dessert than their actual meal. I got here around 9pm and line was relatively short, less than 5 minutes to order and about another 5 minutes to get my order. I appreciate the fact that the store accepts credit, which isn't the case with a lot of Asian places. I got the shaved ice with matcha ice cream, everything tasted amazing. The matcha tasted quality and was probably some of the best matcha I've ever had. However my favourite part was probably the mochi pieces, I wish they gave more. If you're a dessert fanatic or just love matcha, I'd recommend checking out the place. There isn't much seating inside, there's a small booth that seats about 6 people and 3 standing tables, so I would recommend just taking your item to go. Be careful though, some of their items are dine in only, like their matcha tea. Get their shaved ice, you get more bang for your buck compared to the sundae! read more

I've been trying to get some goddamn matcha sundae from this place but the lines were making it very difficult because both times were on a weekend. So I decided to change my strategy and give it another try. I went around 1pm on a weekday and I got in and out in about 30 mins. The line wasn't even long, it's just the people making the sundaes were super slow, as if we have forever to wait (here's where I minus that one star). Anyway, I got the Shiratama Sundae while my partner got the Chiffon Cake Sundae. I liked the chiffon cake sundae better than shiratama. I liked the cornflakes added to it which surprisingly compliment the matcha sundae. The chiffon was dry unfortunately and I didn't care for the red bean paste, it sort of ruined the flavour but my partner liked it, so. Anyway, the matcha was really creamy, rich and delicious - totally matchalicious and 5000x better than uncle tetsu's. However, price wise? Cries. I came here with a few friends after dinner on a Thursday night around 10pm and we still had to wait in line! The line moved pretty quickly though so kudos for quick service. While lining up, there is a menu that you can see on the wall. Smart placement. We got the TSUJIRI Soft Cream (small $4.75) and it was a portion enough to share between two. The matcha flavour was intense, balanced sweetness, very smooth, with no bitter end. I think the menu is overpriced though. The staff is friendly and they run like a smoothly oiled machine, working efficiently. My friends and I sat at the Chabudai table located at the back, had a great time, ended up staying until 11pm unintentionally but they were nice enough not to kick us out. Came here 2 weeks after it opened, on a Friday night and waited around 40 minutes in line. We ordered the Tsujiri Shaved Ice and the OMatcha black sesame latte. I absolutely love, love, love anything matcha, but I don't think this place is worth it. 1. It's too expensive. $7.50 for a matcha soft serve sundae is absolutely ridiculous and the actual sundae does not justify this cost (yes, crazy enough to pay $7.50 to try it). 2. Flavour. The red bean paste was overkill and way too sweet. While eating the chiffon cake sundae, I felt like I was forcing myself to finish it opposed to really enjoying it. Additionally, it would be great if the matcha soft serve can be less sweet so you can actually taste the rich (slightly bitter taste) of matcha. Overall, Tsujiri is an expensive matcha soft serve place that's riding the hype bandwagon. They know it, and the prices reflect as such. Although I enjoyed the matcha soft serve, sponge cake, and the cornflakes within the chiffon soft serve sundae, I don't think I'll be back to Tsujiri unless I'm with friends who are really craving it. I finally got the chance to try the O-Matcha Float with the Houjicha ice cream (Roasted brown rice flavour) and it was delicious. The Houjicha has the perfect sweet note which compliments the green tea slush on the bottom. If this is your first time, I highly recommend their sundaes. Very tasty matcha treats here. This might not be for everyone because I find that matcha has a very strong green tea flavour that may be too strong for some. The matcha parfait is my usual go to but today I felt like some else, I ended up getting a matcha float today. The float is also delicious and a bit of crunch from the crushed ice that they use to make the float. I have wanted to try this place for awhile but the lineups were pretty ridiculous when the place diet opened up. There was a lineup when we got there but it was moving quite quickly. With so many soft serve and matcha cafe's popping up lately, it's hard to know what's good or bad out there without spending my hard earned money. A photo can say 1000 words but really, it doesn't have taste-o-vision , and food that looks amazing ...a lot of the time is a disappointment to my tastebuds. Tsujuri definitely had a lot of social media press since opening this year in May (just when Toronto is going through a matcha craze).....but I had tried Uncle Tetsu Green Tea Cafe's soft serve ice cream awhile back and while it had good ice cream flavour , it was icy rather then creamy. Haven't meet my friend in 5 years and decided to come here to meet up. A very cute small set up. Further in the back you can sit in a japanes tatami style room. With a small table and you can chat and hang with friends. They have tall booths for people coming in pairs perfect for us. I dont rmber what I ordered but it tasted soooo good. Went to tsujiri last night, probably 30 minutes to closing. If you are in search of matcha products, their soft serve ice cream is one of the better ones. It is a smooth ice cream with a nice strong matcha flavour. My wife and i shared a mix (matcha vanilla) shirukana sundae. The ice cream flavours are a nice balance and the portion of rice balls is quite generous. The red bean flavour is always a great compliment to matcha. We also tried an O-matcha cream puff. The piping was fresh, only downside is that it picture on the menu makes it look bigger than it is (it is cut open and over piped in the menu pic (sorry i didnt snap a picture, but it is on the internet if you need). Only negatives really to me is the size of the place abd that there was no air circulation. With all the ice cream. And dessert machines it was hot and uncomfortable waiting for our order. This place is expensive, no doubt. It's not your average "$2 budget soft serve cone" so don't expect to come here without the mental preparation of spending the equivalent to a decent cafteria meal. However, that being said, I found the matcha soft serve cone here to be delicious!! :D I've had awesome green tea ice cream before, but this is the first time I've found such authentic matcha tasting soft serve! Despite being a tiny store, the atmosphere is cute and if you get lucky like I did, you get to "experience" the traditional Japanese culture of sitting at a ground-level table where you get to dangle your feet under. (Note: there is only one of these tables) My boyfriend ordered the chiffon cake sundae and commented that it was good as well. The only thing he regretted was getting the matcha daifuku, which cost a whole whopping $5 by the way. Yes, the flavours were fine, again, very authentic ingredients, but the texture was just off-putting. Way too creamy and gooey. The mochi skin was very sticky and everything kinda just blended together into one big mush in your mouth. I also think it would be too "heavy" and too much for one person to eat on their own. We stopped in here for impromptu dessert, and the parfaits jumped out at us on the menu. Hojicha soft serve also caught my eye, and before I knew it a sakura parfait with hojicha soft serve was in my hand. It was like a roasted green tea if there ever was such a thing, and the mochi balls and sakura cookie made it a complete dessert. Few words are needed to convince me to return, and I think few words are needed to emphasize they have great ice cream. Given their price for a sundae cup was so expensive, I had a really high expectation for the ice-cream. I was planning to order a Tsujiri opera cake and a Shiratama Sundae. They could have put a "sold out" sticker over the opera cake image in the menu outside the store so customers won't be wasting their time in line. The store only had 4 tables (3 tables for 2 guests and 1 big table for 6 guests) which were clearly not enough. I couldn't find a space to eat/ take picture of my ice-cream. -- Food & Drink -- I ended up ordered the Shiratama Sundae with Matcha ice-cream. There was a thin layer of matcha ice-cream in the bottom, then top up with a layer of red bean paste and 2 mochi and was finished with matcha ice-cream and 3 mochi on top. I loved their matcha ice-cream since I could actually taste the bitterness of the matcha powder. Their red bean paste was sweet and it balanced out the bitterness of the matcha ice-cream. I like how the almond powders added some flavors to the mochi since the mochi was tasteless. However, I don't like how they layered the mochi between the red bean paste and the ice-cream. The mochi became rock hard and I couldn't even chew them. The texture was so bad that I just wanted to spit it out. -- Overall -- I will come back after the hype is over. I think I will only be back just for the matcha ice-cream (maybe with the red bean paste as well) but definitely not the mochi. read more

Matcha here is really good. I tried the Yuzu Citron Float with Matcha Ice Cream and it was amazing! There are so many choices of things to try, it is a tad bit on the pricier side but that's because the matcha is really really good quality. The only thing is that for a place that serves food/drinks for the purpose of socializing (ie it's not a quick coffee on the road) the seating is very limited. Wasted swatting at the back where installed was a Japanese inspired shoes off platform where usually only two ppl occupy for hours on end. My first Tsujiri experience couldn't have come at a better time. There was no line up and I managed to even sit at the last available table for 2. Overall, I gave Tsujiri a rating of 3.5 stars. I ordered the Tsujiri Shaved Ice with Matcha Soft Cream and a slice of Matcha Crepe Cake. Let's call it matcha and not green tea because premium Tsujiri matcha powder is being used in the drinks and desserts. This is how you can justify the expensive prices lol. The Shaved Ice was topped with a swirl of wonderful rich flavour of matcha soft cream (rated medium strength at 2 matcha leaves on a scale of 3). Tsubuan paste, made from red bean, did not taste too sweet. Kuri kanroni, yellow chestnut boiled in a sweet syrup, did not have much taste. Shiratama, shaped balls of Japanese rice cake, was chewy. The shaved ice at the bottom was the best as the strong matcha flavour had settled to the bottom of the cup. I ordered the Matcha Crepe Cake so I could compare it to Millie Creperie's version of the same cake. Both places served my cake already pre sliced and packaged. Tsujiri served the cake in a clear plastic container top that fitted on to a pie wedge shaped plastic tray. I thought that was a good idea to keep the cake moist. Tsujiri's cake tasted drier than Millie's too creamy and mushy cake. It was hard to slice the Tsujiri cake without a plastic knife. I enjoyed the matcha soft cream so much that I had to have more so I ordered it in a cone. Yes, it was expensive, but I enjoyed my Tsujiri experience and I didn't have to travel to Japan. Isn't that what counts? You could go to some cheaper place and not enjoy your experience. read more

The ice cream itself was soft and flavourful but the Mochi balls didn't have too much flavouring. The red bean added a new touch. OK I finally caved into the hype and tried this spot. Luckily I was there at an off peak hour so was not subjected to any long wait. I went for the sundae (with lychee, chest nut, rice cracker, red bean center and base of rice) For a soft serve this is priced on the higher side. I chose the mix flavored one so got to try both. Vanilla was OK. The Matcha was good and I assume they use a lot of it as it did leave a lingering taste. I personally don't like the desserts with these taste profiles/region so my review is a bit biased. I would say try it if you like matcha and soft serve otherwise not worth the wait or price IMO. From what I understand the Uncle Tetsu offering nearby is quite similar so kind of a toss up between the two. read more

Yesterday when I went for the second time, I only ordered the tsujiri soft serve on a cone. This time I realized the portion size of the ice cream got much bigger! (See photos below for reference) I was happy to see how much bigger it got but I was sort of annoyed that I was ripped off the first time I came here. My friend ordered the soft serve in a cup which was the same price as the cone but we realized that the portion size was slightly smaller. I also noticed that the ice cream melts so much faster than regular ice cream and it wasn't even hot outside. By the time I got my ice cream to walking about 20-30 steps away from the store, the ice cream was already dripping down my hands from the cone. I didn't notice this during my first visit but the portion size was so small that time that I probably finished it before it even had a chance to melt. Overall I think the tsujiri soft serve on a cone is worth the price here but I'm not sure about the other stuff. If you get the sundaes, you're just paying extra for the toppings which aren't anything special. Even though this place is sort of pricey, I think I would still come back again because the matcha soft serve tastes a lot better than some of the other places I've tried. read more

I've been to Tsujiri twice and both my experiences were okay. The first time I went, I had to wait in line for approximately 40 mins, but the second time I was just able to walk in. They have a wide variety of menu items from the regular soft serve to floats to shaved ice. The first time I went, I ordered the Tsujiri Sundae. I think the reason why the prices are more higher is because of the quality of the ice cream. I love the bright green colour from the matcha and you can really taste the rich green tea flavour. I'm not sure how I liked the sundae though, there was a layer of rice krispy chips which I wasn't a huge fan of, it tasted like gasoline. I did really like the chestnut and rice cake that was beautifully placed on top. There was a pink flower edible decoration that I ate, but had to spit it out right away. The second time I ordered a regular soft serve in a cup which was really tasty. If you're looking for some high quality green tea ice cream, Tsujiri is the place to go. read more

My boyfriend and I ordered an Iced Houjicha latte and a Tsujiri matcha sundae. The Iced Houjicha latte was amazing! Had a strong, authentic green tea flavour but it wasn't too bitter or anything. Unfortunately, we never got to try the sundae because he slipped and dropped the top half of the dessert. As he was trying to wipe his hand, he ends up dropping the cup. So yeah, we never got to try it. I'm sure it tasted really good though. read more

Soft serve ice cream is delicious. I recommend the vanilla matcha twist as the pure matcha ice cream can be a bit strong. The vanilla adds the perfect amount of creaminess to the matcha flavour. To be honest, the line up doesn't have to be as long as it usually is. The employees, although very nice, have no sense of efficiency. They would pick things up and put things down without actually making anything. They would have 3 people working on 1 thing keeping other things unmade, causing an unnecessary wait time that could be easily fixed with more proper training of staff. First time at Tsujiri. I ordered the Chiffon Cake Sundae ($7.50). Next time, I would only come here and order their soft-serve ice-cream as I thought their matcha ice-cream was absolutely delicious but the cake & red bean was dry/plain and too sweet, respectively. I might prefer $12.50 Matcha Parfait at Uncle Tetsu's Angel Cafe better (ice-cream & cheesecake both delicious with ample seating inside to enjoy with friends). Note that there's limited seating, only 3 tables. The service and environment was good though. Still enjoyed it. Would come back if I'm lookig for delicious matcha soft-serve ice-cream. read more

This new matcha dessert place has been super popular, often with long line ups. I went late on a Sunday night and caught it on an off-night. There wasn't any line ups! But the rice ball ice cream I wanted was already sold out. :( So I took the chiffon cake matcha & vanilla ice cream instead. It's really delicious! Not overly sweet at all. Although the price/value ratio isn't too great... Is it so delicious that it's worth $7? Probably not. I'd say it's more of a novelty thing than a regular craving for me. read more
