As longtime patrons of True Food, our recent dining experiences have left us increasingly disappointed. Having dined here many, many times for several years, we noticed that the restaurant reached its peak about a year ago. Unfortunately, small but significant changes have gradually undermined the unique appeal that once set this place apart. Originally, True Food's commitment to healthy eating was exemplified by their avoidance of potatoes, which they deemed not so healthy. This was particularly beneficial for someone like me with a rare potato allergy. However, recent menu changes suggest a shift towards more mainstream, financially driven decisions. The introduction of potatoes is just one of many alterations that suggest a move away from their health-centric ethos. Today's experience was particularly troubling. I ordered "Not my mother's meat loaf" and specifically requested no potatoes due to my allergy, asking for sweet potatoes instead. Despite my explicit instructions, my meal arrived with a fingerling potato hidden beneath the meatloaf. This oversight not only displayed a lack of attention to customer requests but also posed a severe health risk to me. When I pointed out the issue, my dish was taken back to the kitchen only to be returned with the same meatloaf nervously given to me. I know because I had cut it in half. This clear disregard for cross-contamination protocols and basic food safety was shocking. After waiting over 30 minutes still no meal, with no satisfactory resolution, we decided to cut our losses and left. I ended up getting a California burger at Houston's next door, which was, fortunately, excellent with NO potatoes. It is disheartening to see True Food lose its unique niche and quality of service. The restaurant seems to be prioritizing cost-saving measures over the quality and care that once made it special. Exceptional, from first bite to last! We started with the hummus plate and grilled cauliflower and the flavors were so unexpectedly fresh, rich and complex that it caught us by surprise. Every mouthful was delicious. Scott also brought us some tomato soup to taste and it was equally amazing. Then we had the bison sausage pizza which had a uniquely delicious flavor with a perfectly cooked, light and fluffy crust. We also each had one of their cold drinks and unlike most restaurants, they weren't sickly sweet but instead packed with healthy, natural ingredients that were just wonderful. Of course by this point we had to get dessert, a turtle sundae and cold brew, and once again we were not disappointed. At the end of the meal, we felt so nourished with no heaviness or greasiness that's all too normal with most restaurants. And last but not least, the service was quick, attentive, and super friendly and the ambience was clean, luscious and bright and exactly in line with the quality and style of food. Levan was an exceptional waiter during our visit to True Foods Kitchen. From the moment we sat down, he was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. He took the time to explain the specials and made excellent recommendations based on our preferences. Throughout the meal, Levan checked in on us regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. He was prompt with drink refills and made sure our food was prepared to our liking. His attention to detail and excellent customer service truly enhanced our dining experience. Not only was Levan a fantastic waiter, but he also had a positive attitude and a genuine warmth that made us feel welcome and appreciated. The moment our host greeted us at the door, we instantly felt the personalized attention and sincere hospitality that would set the tone for the rest of our meal. Our waiter, Levan, (so sorry if I am butchering the spelling), was like family. He was friendly, respectful, and an expert at recommending items for our taste and dietary needs. Staff from the back of the house even came to our table to check on our orders; who does that?! Amazing service doesn't describe half of what we experienced. The food was awesome and guilt-free. The fresh flavors, from cocktails to dessert, danced on our palates like Gene Kelly. The subtle flavors and combinations are a testament to the skill of the chef. One of My Favorite Places True Food Kitchen is one of my all-time favorite restaurants; I seek it out wherever I travel, from Long Island to Atlanta to LA. Their commitment to fresh, vibrant ingredients and wellness-inspired dining makes every visit feel like both a treat and an act of self-care. The Hackensack location is no exception. The space is spotless, welcoming, and filled with friendly energy. Tonight, I enjoyed the vegan spinach & almond mozzarella pizza (gone before I could take a picture!) and the most decadent carrot cake, perfectly paired with my go-to Tulsi Adaptogenic tea. Disappointed with the Quality and Experience I had a really disappointing experience with my recent order from True Food Kitchen. I ordered the buffalo chicken fingers, but what I received didn't match the description at all. They lacked any buffalo flavor, and the texture was really off -- soggy breadcrumbs, like they had been microwaved, and poorly seasoned. The edamame dumplings (VEG) arrived as one mushy clump instead of individual dumplings, which made them unappetizing. As for the lasagna, the sauce tasted like something straight out of a jar -- bland and lacking freshness. Unfortunately, I also experienced severe stomach issues shortly after eating, which really added to the negative experience. I won't be ordering from this location again. I truly hope they improve their quality control and food standards, because at these prices, customers deserve better. Very disappointed. Also , Fall pie was trash!!!! read more

Wow, what an experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was fresh, inviting, and full of good energy. But what truly made the night special was our server, David. He was absolutely amazing--attentive without being overbearing, incredibly kind, and he made sure every detail of our meal was perfect. Service like that is rare, and he deserves so much credit for elevating the evening. The food was just as impressive--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. Every dish tasted intentional and nourishing, yet indulgent in all the right ways. You can really tell how much thought and care goes into the menu. Between the delicious food and David's outstanding service, this was easily one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. My wife and I just moved to the area (Paramus). We were looking for a nice brunch place with actual healthy options and True Food Kitchen was a spot that appeared to be such. The restaurant as really cool and a modern feel, with different seating areas (bar, hightops, regular tables with some booth seating as well.) Adriel was our server, he provided phenomenal service as well as relevant information on the food we were curious about ordering. He was really passionate about providing the best service and was even more accommodating when we told him we just moved to the area. The food was wonderful, I had the All American Burger and my wife got the farmers market scramble and we split a chopped salad. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food being served. I frequent this restaurant located in Hackensack New Jersey . I travel from New York to enjoy the fresh organic food and great service. I love the fact that the size portions are perfect and when you leave here you still feel light and energetic. The food is delicious and cooked healthy hence the name true food kitchen... the food is completely healthy and delicious at the same time, the chef here has that balance mastered! Ask for the server kevin... he is magnificent. My niece has a allergy to peanuts and sesame oil and he made a great effort to make sure the food she ordered was not cooked in peanut oil or sesame oil. He went above and beyond to make us happy by explaining the menu, making sure it was safe for my niece, and giving us recommendations of what he likes. Our server was: Jorge The server was very welcoming and cheerful, provided excellent recommendations and answered all our questions and checked on us with adequate frequency. He kept pur table clear as plates were emptied. Food: The options all sounded very enticing, it was hard to choose. We ordered the roasted butternut squash soup, roasted Brussels sprouts. And Tuscan kale salad for Starters, everything was delicious. The soup was definitely a favorite as well as the Brussels sprouts. But by no means does thay detract from the Kale Salad. I don't write these things often ... BUT...... This place is amazing. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, personable staff and great service. We had the poke bowl, the double vegan cheeseburger (I subbed with Gouda cheese) the bison and margarita pizzas. Everything was delicious. As someone who is mindful of what is being put into my and my family's mouth I was really relieved to find this place. I wish we had something like this closer to home, but I guess I'll be making the trip because I was truly impressed. Now I don't ever really leave reviews at places but, you guys really were amazing. I had a great experience here the other day. The grass-fed burger and fries were some of the best burger fries combo I had in a long LONG time, I also ordered the DELICIOUS dragon fruit which was recommended by Adriel who was so attentive and friendly the entire time. Now for the hostess Chenelle I believe her name was, she was a delight and such an amazing and warm smile once you enter the place, she had greeted us so kindly and led us to our tables. My daughter and I had a great experience at True Food in Hackensack this evening! Our server, Lio, was so warm and friendly, and very helpful regarding her special dietary needs. The food was fresh and tasty- We had the Tuna poke bowl and the chinese chicken salad. They even made a special salad dressing for my daughter who can't have dairy or gluten. We were so relaxed and enjoying the comfy atmosphere that we splurged on the chocolate chip cookie and vegan ice cream dessert. Sweet end to a sweet Labor Day weekend dinner out! Highly recommend! I went to the soft opening today for lunch at the Menlo Park, NJ location. I was absolutely blown away. I am not a vegan but could easily adapt to this lifestyle with the amazing selections. the food was delicious, and you could not ask for better portion sizes. I had the butternut squash soup and flatbread as starter. My entree was the salmon, finished by pumpkin pie. our waitress was Rowena, and we could not have been more pleased with the service we received. A true believer in True Food and its kitchen today's experience probably the best one I've had in the Riverside Shops location of True Food kitchen. This was due in part to the great love put into each dish and more largely due to the service provided by Gustavo. I recently visited True Food Kitchen in Hackensack and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is located in a great spot and has a nice atmosphere. I ordered the citrusade drink, edamame guacamole, and teriyaki quinoa bowl, and everything was absolutely delicious. The drink was refreshing and the edamame guacamole was the perfect appetizer. The teriyaki quinoa bowl was the highlight of the meal - it was flavorful and loaded with fresh vegetables. Miguel provide quick and unbelievable high quality service. Was in NJ to visit family and wanted to try out a new food place. My waiter was Adriel and he truly helped make the dining experience pleasurable. Usually I'm used to NJ waiters being a bit standoffish, but Adriel was extremely friendly and respectful. He was very attentive and even helped me decide on what to order through his own recommendation. The food was great. I was pleasantly surprised with my dining experience as well as the inviting atmosphere. I hope to bring my family next time as well!
