I was excited to try this new restaurant for date night with the hubby and it did not disappoint. We started with the cracklin' and gravy fries. First the portions are huge! The cracklin' comes out still sizzling and popping. The BBQ dipping sauce is delicious. The gravy fries are perfectly seasoned with what looks like debris (if you know Cajun food, you know what this is!). We shared the shrimp poboy. Husband called it the best fried shrimp in Richardson. The mac and cheese stands out on its own, even if you get it as a side. We will most definitely be going back! read more

Ok so I'm from the DEPTHS of Louisiana! SOUTH Louisiana. And proud of it ;) Just moved here a few months ago. This place had great reviews and is in walking distance of my place so I checked it out. I will start off my saying the service was EXCELLENT. Best service I've had at a restaurant in a very long time. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. Happy to be working there and serving me! Appetizer was amazing! (Fried calamari, fried okra, and fried banana peppers) fricken wow! Now, the gumbo and etouffee. No. It was not nasty at all but is was not made with a true roux. I had to throw that out there since they clam to be such a true Louisiana restaurant. The roux is what makes the meal! It was very thick, and had that dark clear color to it /: Grilled Red Fish was great and cooked nicely. The dirty rice was the closest to Cajun. Very good. Drinks were great. Over all I was pleased and will be back. My point is, if you know real Cajun food, don't go here for that experience. read more

One of the easiest 5's I have given. Great food and great service. I had the calamari to start with. Cooked to perfection. The remoulade was amazing. I asked for a second helping. Then the shrimp and grits. Of the cuff. One of the best I've ever had. This will be a mainstay when I travel back to Dallas. Great prices and ice cold beer too. read more

I really love this place. Sea Food is fresh. Service is fast and attentive. Manager genuinely cares about patrons. Staff super friendly ....waiter remembered me (it's my third time). Heard a customer complaining (not sure what about) manager immediately took customer is always right stance and replaced her selection with new choice. I love sea food and delighted I found this place Favorite is the fish and chips (I come here every time I feel for fish and chips) If I am feeling really naughty gravy fries are a crazy indulgence Kitchen sink gumbo pretty good too! read more

We loved this hidden gem! We came on a rainy day and at an odd time between lunch and dinner. The waitress was extremely helpful with recommendations and my husband ordered a burger (not a big seafood fan) and I ordered the Tricky Fish (redfish). Everything was so tasty! The dirty rice had a wonderful flavor and spice. We made the mistake of trying the French toast sundae - it was AMAZING! I wanted to eat the whole thing. (Just didn't need to, you know?) Our waitress was so kind and boxed it up for us and we shared it with our daughter who loved it as much as we did. We will be back with the kids next time read more

Menu is small. Food is alright. Our waiter was kind of weird. Weird environment. Alright food. 3 stars.

This is an awesome place to visit if you are in the mood for seafood. We all left with happy plates! I myself had an opportunity to experience the grilled redfish with spinach salad. This is the best spinach salad I have ever had. The combination of spinach, onions, corn, and bacon was to die for. I also had a side of fried okra which surprisingly was good considering that it wasn't battered with corn meal. My husband had the tricky redfish which he said was good & my son enjoyed the fried catfish plate. Overall my family gives this place 5 stars! read more

Excellent place to try. Someone saw it on Yelp so we had to try while we were in Dallas. Atmosphere- very cool and kinda trendy with the urban metal/wood kinda feel. Service- fantastic. The were extremely helpful, nice, and attentive. Even in the 'self-service' area people were always checking with us for refills and such. Food- very good. I ordered the gumbo as a starter which was amazing but HUGE for a starter. Added a bit of hot sauce and it was great. I ordered the catfish platter as a 'meal'. Catfish was perfect. Not too much breading to overwhelm the fish. Excellent sauces also. A friend ordered the peel and eat shrimp which was downright amazing. It was seasoned (which is kinda different) with a fantastic seasoning. So good. Overall - excellent meal in a great place. I will definitely be back...I would recommend you go too. read more

I ordered catfish from this place and got swei fish, THIS IS NOT CATFISH!!! I called for the manager and was told they were not available to speak. I felt bamboozled, inform your patrons of what they are paying for, that fish consistancy is HORRIBLE and I wasted $14.50 and couldn't speak to anyone, this place is never consistent with their food...just b prepared for fake fish and no one to talk to about your issue read more

Delicious just do your self a favor & go! Service is great, atmosphere is fun, & menu is sooo good haven't had a dish I didn't like yet!

I live in Los Angeles the home of great sushi bars and fabulous fish and incredible chefs I guess I'm spoiled I rated the restaurant two stars because it was just OK not incredible but not bad either when I go to a restaurant I want something fabulous and I want to remember the restaurant I forgot this restaurant as soon as I left it was that unmemorable. read more

When I worked in the area a few years back I would frequent Tricky Fish food was always good. Plenty of servers. But I guess it's Labor Day not as much help. Bartender was serving us but had to try to catch her attention several times because she was caring a conversation with someone at the bar. Wasn't busy had to ask for sweetener. With tea. Waited to get attention for the check. We wanted to go somewhere different. Bill was around $42.00 little overpriced. Oysters were really small. Each one. Macaroni with shrimp wasn't much for the price also. Don't think we will make the drive anytime soon. Sorry read more

Really good food. I had the Pig & Poultry sandwich. . Very good, fresh and juicy. The fries were very well seasoned and the service was great. Highly recommended and will be coming back! read more

Meh.. expected more from a fish taco.. I've never had a fish taco in a flour tortilla I was expecting it in a corn. And it didnt have enough sauce. Okra was pretty delish. read more

I've been here twice. Once for brunch & another for dinner. Both were amazing. Had the oyster shooters & although I'm not a big Bloody Mary fan, they were really good. For brunch, they had a mimosa bar & it was FANTASTIC!! I absolutely loved it. Definitely will make this a regular spot. read more

Cool and laid back place. I ordered the fried fish and upgraded to a salad versus cold slaw. It was really good fish and the salad was great, had it with fries. I also ordered a cocktail. The whole meal was great, I literally ate everything including the French fries. All my friends seemed to like what they ordered too. Next time I'm in the area I will try something different. read more

We were very excited to come at eat at this location but apparently their kitchen closes a whole hour before their doors even close. Will likely come back to give it a second shot but they should really have some sort of notification to indicate they close their kitchen early. Waste of time. Extremely disappointing. read more

Its not a perfect 5 star..but pretty darn close..we cant vote half stars on this site..I would give it an honest 4.5 out of 5...or an 8.5 -9 out of 10... My wife and I really enjoyed our meal. All the food was either GREAT or far above average( we tried 4-5 items). Each item exceeded our expectations. Service was perfect, waiter had a good sense of humor. He checked in on our table promptly, but was not overbearing as many are these days. Manager, or owner, served us a drink we had ordered at our table while our waiter was serving food at another table ( that certainly is impressive and rarely happens elsewhere). The price of the final bill was a very PLEASANT surprise as well, it was lower than we thought . GREAT quality for moderate/average prices. Simply cannot beat the overall package of this place. Keep it up tricky fish, we will be back soon read more

So so so impressed with Tricky Fish!!! I'm so excited to see all of the new restaurants opening at City Line and this one is fantastic! We travelled to NOLA earlier this year and the food here was straight out of Louisiana. The craft cocktails were delicious, complex, and didn't have any ridiculously unnecessary ingredients like a lot of places add to their craft cocktail menus. The happy hour deals are good too! I ate the Tricky Fish and my husband had the fried catfish. Both were flavorful and delicious with exceptional portions. Service was fast and friendly and the menu has a large variety of good stuff to try! Can't wait to come back!!! read more

Atmosphere is an interesting blend between Chipotle and an actual sit-down restaurant. Good beer selection and happy hour - small menu but the items we had (fish sandwich and fried shrimp/oysters were great. A good super low key first date spot. For second dates and further I'd recommend somewhere else unless your grabbing lunch or just hungry. read more

Initially she wanted to go to City grill but I told her about this spot call tricky fish. She said cool, I'm game. I ordered the crawfish etouffee, she ordered something from the brunch menu, it was pancakes and praline I believe. It was very good but I was more impressed by the crawfish etouffee because I'm from Louisiana and most people can't get it right in Texas. The crawfish were plentiful and downright tasty. We had this great server her name was Sasha, she had our back, I believe even the manager or perhaps the owner came by and checked up on us. I promise we will be coming back soon and will tell our friends to do so as well. A great spot affordable prices and Sasha told us they even have theme days during the weekdays. read more

The great prophets Run-D.M.C. cleverly came up with a song entitled "Tricky". If any member of Run DMC lived in Richardson, they'd definitely eat here and would love it. because this place is the bomb diggity. no doubt. Play on playa. mmm hmm. The tricky fish tilapia is good. The okra is great! The bartenders Chanel, Hannah and Cristian are super knowledgeable and attentive. I come here a lot! It is so worth trying! read more

Loved their crab cakes and how they would just melt in my mouth and just flood it with flavor. It was also my first time having gumbo so I was excited, but after tasting it I kind of felt a bit disappointed that it didnt explode with flavors in my mouth. It was kind of just meh. The french toast desert was heavenly though. The way the warm piece of toast melts the ice cream just made a sweet and delicate harmony in my mouth that I would love to have again. read more

I love this place! Great old fashioned - ordered it smoked, you won't regret. Flash fried okra is hands down the best! I'm addicted to it. Everything on the menu is delicious. read more

Late dinner last night, met at the door with giant smiles even though the crew was working on closing duties. Oysters were delish and the blackened mahi was excellent. The cocktails were amazing. First visit and definitely will be back! read more

Met friends for dinner,, started with some calamrir which was great. The calamari was cooked perfectly, with a cornmeal coating. So good. Had the tricky fish with blackened tilapia, dirty rice and fried okra. Spicy, but not set you on fire spicy, this was excellent. Tried the French toast sundae, which is a spin on bread pudding. I really liked this since it did not have a heavy liqour flavor. Attentive and helpful service, evetything was great all around. read more

I think the food is great! I has the Gumbo which was loaded with shrimp, fish, sausage, okra, etc.. $8 bowl and big enough for a meal. Next I had the Fried platter: Shrimp and Catfish. both were great. Alot better quality than Aw Shucks, Hook Line and Sinker and Fish Shack for comparison. Food quality is fresh. Soft Drinks are self serve - which is PLUS in my book. they have a bar too if you need a drink. read more

We were so excited to try this place out . My feelings are genuinely hurt because I wanted to love it! I'll get straight to the point. The reason I'm giving them 1 is star is not because the food wasn't actually delicious, it's simply because the service was god awful. The worst I've had in a long time. And it's such a shame. They took a potentially incredible meal, and pissed on it with bad service . Our entrees came out before our cocktails did....and we ordered the cocktails first. When the food came out, it wasn't until we had completely finished our meals before the server, Olivia, bothered coming over. The only reason I would consider ever coming back here is because the food wasn't half bad, but I would much rather pay more for an outstanding dining experience than sit through that torture again. read more

Love this place! The fried okra is amazing!! They also have a great brunch selection on Sundays

Excellent restaurant. I wish I lived closer. I selected this place to meet my MIL and my daughter. So, I selected a middle location to us both. The seafood was excellent. One thing that impressed me was the kid's fries didn't have the seasoning on it, but the adult fries did. Our server was excellent, and our food came quickly. The manager stopped by for a chat and was nice too. read more

Wasn't bad. I sat at the bartop since I was dinning alone and got a seat right away. Food wasn't bad, a little pricey, But it is seafood so that's kinda expected. Only main issues I had was I went without a refill on my drink for a long while eating my meal. Once I was ready to leave I asked a total of 7 times to get my check, then once I received my check, it took another 25 minuets to pay. Then my card was charged twice. I got the money back but took 5 days for my bank to get it back into my account. It was a Friday evening at around 7pm and they had 5 people behind the bartop so it shouldn't have taken so many attempts to get a refill, my check and to pay. Maybe it was just a off night on their part. I'd be willing to give them another try. read more

Wish we would have found it sooner! My wife and I wanted to try something new, so she searched Yelp and found Tricky Fish. It was easy to get to, S.E. quadrant at the PGBT and US75. There was ample parking in the garage at CityLine and a short walk to the restaurant from there. We were greeted at the door and seated promptly in a booth. The ambiance is nice, (although the inside lights could be dimmed a little more after dark) and the place has a laid back vibe. There is counter ordering for lunch but they do wait on you at the table for dinner. The drinks were good and strong and we had the calamari for an appetizer which was excellent. I had the fried oyster po-boy which I can honestly say was the best I have ever eaten. My wife had fish and chips which she said was really good also. We can't wait to return. read more

This place is fire I went today during happy hour. I was visiting family that works at State Farm and had some time to kill the drinks were strong yet tasty.
