Avoid the fish & chips, fries, and slaw at all costs. All three are bad. Fish & Chips: Served as one slab of fish, not individual slices. The batter is incredibly terrible. It was heavy, overcooked, had poor flavor and very greasy. This fish itself was OK, but not great. Fries: Why does every place have to put some "special seasoning" on their fries? I just want fries, with a bit of salt. Not whatever it is you serve that is probably loaded with MSG. Slaw: Can't say it was bad, just incredibly bland. Way too much mayo. Needed some vinegar or something to give it a bit of a kick. I met a friend for lunch on 20 April. Afterwards, I went home, curled up in bed, and hoped not to throw up. read more

This was my second time to dine here. First was about 6 weeks ago. Both time were awesome. When we arrived today we got the same waiter as last time and he greeted us with its great to see you again. I asked if he really remembered us and then he told me what we were celebrating the last time we were there. That's was pretty cool. His name is Chandler and he gave us a great customer service both visits. Made good recommendation and never let us be without drinks. Like I said he was awesome. There were other staff manners helping throughout our dining experience and all were great. The food is awesome and the ambiance is nice and relaxing. I can't wait till we go back again. read more

I tried Tricky Fish based on many of the reviews here as well as the fact that it was super close to my hotel. The restaurant was incredibly loud. The noise level was more akin to a busy bar on a Friday night than a restaurant. I didn't mind the noise level, as I was dining by myself. However, it did make it difficult to hear my soft spoken server. I decided to go with the fish and chips for dinner. The food was "okay", but not as good as I was expecting based on many of the reviews left here. When my food arrived it was extremely hot. Which in and of itself is a good thing, but it took a bit to cool down and halfway through my meal, my waitress was asking if I wanted the rest of my meal to be boxed up. Definitely felt like I was being rushed out. All in all, not sure that I will be back again or could recommend this place. read more

fish and chips were spot on. cole slaw was a level above canes fries were fine but not hand cut or anything. would be a great touch if they did fish was crispy and tender and flaky. loved it. one big piece of fish you get. Great food! My fav are their po-boys, fried catfish specifically. But their salads are also delish! Mad ETP order so there's a small wait and if you go during the height of lunch/dinner there's usually a wait but worth it! read more

This place is great! Sat outside, and it was perfect. Very dog-friendly! Very nice staff!

This is my 2nd time eating from here. I would say the first time I go the Caesar Salad and it was bomb. Today I have the seafood combo with catfish and shrimp; added fried crawfish. Everything was bland. You guys will need to kick up the seasoning a few notches in order to make this dish Fire. Season the seafood and the batter, just don't go overboard with the salt. Tarter sauce is good. read more

I got the crawfish etouffee and loved it! I'm pretty picky about etouffee but this was just how I like it. Could add more hot sauce if you're a fan of spice but overall it was great. read more

I've been coming to Tricky Fish for some time now but my last visit was amazing! I got excellent service and my gumbo was delicious! Flor, the girl that helped me out was not only super friendly she was also really attentive and provided outstanding service! I will definitely keep coming back. read more

Tricky Fish had solid, if not 5 star level food. We got takeout, and I had the shrimp tacos. The blackened shrimp were very tasty, and the slaw was fine. The combination was good, but not amazing. I liked the fries that came with it. My wife got the macaroni & cheese with grilled chicken. I tried some of it, and it was quite good. I'd recommend that dish for sure. The bleu cheese chips were delicious. Pickup for our order was really easy, and the food was ready when I arrived. Staff seemed friendly too. It was good enough that we will definitely be back. There are quite a few other menu items that sound good to us. read more

We think our server's name was roxxane, she was very attentive. It was my 6year anniversary with my fianceé and she met both of our standards! We are very thankful for her service as we both were previous service industry workers. 10/10 would definitely return! read more

1st time going to Tricky Fish for Brunch and I have to say the food was great and that's reason I'm giving this 5 stars all the way!! I'm giving this a 5 star since i would recommend it to people, but it's not perfect. I'm a budget foodie, so i go with the $10 items. You can easily spend $17 on an entree here (including the incredible Tricky Fish itself) My fav budget item is the fish sandwich for $10 that had some really fresh tasting fish, bacon jam, and a great remoulade. Food is good. Prices are a little high. Plus it's one of those odd, semi-sit down/counter service places. But i won't deduct stars for that. Check this place out if you are nearby. read more

Good food. Great bartenders. Only issue is I've been 10 or more times and they've messed up my order giving me the wrong dish twice. Once I received clearly old fish due to the smell and texture. That was the last time I went. 7/10 times was extremely enjoyable 2/10 times I got wrong order and didn't know till I got home but they corrected it fast and the food was still really good 1/10 times I got something the kitchen should've never let leave the kitchen and for that I could never return. The management is super sweet and accommodating but certain things I just can't do and old seafood with a smell is one o read more

I love Tricky Fish, they've got everything you could want from a solid cajun restaurant. The atmosphere is awesome, service is friendly and quick, and the prices are decent. My only qualm is they changed their happy hour from 5-close everyday to 3-7 weekdays only. Bummer. Their fried oysters are my favorite in the area, with the batter being crisp and not too greasy, but still flavorful. They also do a killer grilled redfish. You can't go wrong here. The cocktails here are great, and if you like frozen margaritas, the filthy cherry margarita is not to be missed. Basically frozen adult cherry limeade! read more

Nice easy access to city line. Good solid food with a decent beer and wine selection. Cocktails also but I can't speak to these. The thing that stood out is even though it was fairly full it wasn't too loud. Nice change from many places. The shrimp and linguine had a nice flavor and the fried shrimp and oysters were generous. Very attentively wait staff without feeling like they were hovering. Overall it was good. I'd go back. read more

I found this place on this app by total accident, my wife and I are so glad we did. We come to Plano every month and have now finally found our Seafood Restaurant go to place. Very clean, very friendly atmosphere and staff. I was greeted by the Mgr, I can't remember his name but I will remember where this place is. My wife and I shared an order of Calamari along with the Seafood Platter "Fried white fish, Shrimp, Oysters and some awesome Okra. It was enough to feed both of us. Awesome job !!!! We will be back. Tricky Fish, Tricky Fish, how do I love thee?!?! OMG, this spot is AWESOME!! This was my first visit, and it certainly won't be my last! Great location, great atmosphere, and most importantly, fabulous food. If you haven't been, just go!! I had a Filthy Cherry Margarita to start - it was right up my alley. As an appetizer, I chose the calamari - super tasty, especially with fried okra and fried banana pepper rings mixed in. As an entree, I got a fried platter with catfish and oysters - both delicious! The catfish was well-seasoned AND tender-lined, a huge plus for me. #catfishsnob I subbed the standard sides of fries and slaw for fried okra and the Tillamook mac and cheese - great choices, if I do say so myself. They fry their okra without breading, sliced in half down the middle - yum! And the mac and cheese?? Amazing. The service was fabulous as well. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, seated quickly, and our server, Ariauna, was excellent. Attentive, friendly, helpful, always with a smile - exactly what you want your server to be. There was a minor miss with the timing of our appetizer, but she took care of it promptly, no harm no foul. The hostess even came outside to say goodbye as we left - we slipped past her on , but she was on it! :-) So, bottom line, if you enjoy Louisiana-style seafood, you've gotta give Tricky Fish a try. Having lived in NOLA for years, I feel like I've tried all the Cajun-ish spots since moving to DFW, and Tricky Fish tops the list for me now, knocking Pappadeaux to #2 (primarily b/c it's more reasonably priced). Can't wait to go back to try their other menu items, especially the French Toast Sundae. Yes indeed Tricky Fish...yes INDEED! Y'all did that! read more

A co-worker recommended us to check out Tricky Fish when we were visiting from out of town. It was not too far from the office so we decided to check it out during our lunch break. I ordered the Caesar Salad with shrimp. I'll be honest when it came out as a huge lettuce wedge I thought oh geeze they are trying to hard I just wanted a normal salad. I immediately regretted thinking that once I took a bite. The flavors were amazing I especially liked the nice touch of the roasted tomatoes. Also the fried okra was an amazing surprise!! I used to live by the CityLine so I have visited tricky fish a few times. I love the ambiance of the place and the care that the staff takes to keep it clean and make it look orderly. Most times that I patronized them, I sat at the bar and I was never disappointed by the service. The bar tenders are very friendly and take the time to remember your name. I'm not much on seafood, but I did enjoy the fish n chips, and they usually have a fresh catch on special depending on the time of year. I was introduced to one of their signature drinks- Lime in the coco which is really good. Try it if you drop in. read more

We wanted fish and I wanted to try something new. So when I asked Siri for good seafood restaurants in the Plano area...Tricky Fish was one that came up. The City Line area off GB and 75 has grown so much. It was only a 14 mile drive and we feel worth it. Flint was our server and he did a great job making our experience at Tricky Fish a good one. We had cracklin's for an appetizer...so hot and fresh...you could still hear them popping. My salmon salad was delish and Scott's said his blackened salmon with dirty rice and brussel sprouts was really good. He said he would come here again. Great location, wonderful staff, really enjoyed our visit. read more

A bit tough to reel in. They seem to be trying to take the Flying Fish or cajun fish place concept and make it expensive. The flounder was fine, and the rice cooked well, but the calamari leaves much to be desired. It congealed into one big ball of flour and oil and peppers and octopus that was kind of a mess to eat and not very tasty. That said, the okra is awesomely good and probably the most redeeming aspect of my visit. I also wish they would offer table service before 3. It was a bit weird not being waited on for a $40+ meal which, though I ordered dine in, came in take out boxes. A noble concept in a high rent area. Not bad but not the best catch. read more

This place is one of my all-time favorite places to go when I want to splurge a little. Had the tricky fish (redfish). Quite good & good flavors. Fried okra was tasty but have toothpicks to floss on hand when you're done.

Great menu, good prices, large portions. We witnessed an employee (or manager?) grab another employee in public like a child (unwarranted grabbing and yanking of underarm and wrists) several times throughout our visit. As a result, I have no interest in returning. But yeah, the food is really good, and the employees that don't yank others around are AWESOME. read more
