Had a great night celebrating my birthday at Tressettis! Making reservations for 14 was no problem and they sat our group in the wine room. Made our way to the bar and the espresso martinis and old fashions are always a must! Jessica was our server and her outgoing attitude while helping us fit right in with our group! Guests enjoyed the chicken codon bleu, salmon, Cajun Mac and cheese as for me the birthday girl I had my favorite Cesar salad and garlic Brie! It paired well with the cab and Malbec wines we ordered. My wife and I love Tresetti's! We have been coming here for almost a decade. Tonight we celebrated her birthday and Valentines Day. I had the Ossobuco, she had the chicken Cordon Blue. Food was amazing! The polenta base for the lamb? Fabulous! We did have one issue. For the first time, service was not great. The hostess seemed annoyed we were there and bolted as soon as we got to the table. Our server was not very attentive and I had to attract her attention several times when we needed anything. I understand it was busy, but we have eaten here a number of times when it was busy and always had great service. Tonight!? Not so great. I hope it was just an off night. Tresetti's Restaurant is located in Downtown Modesto on 927 11th Street. Right off the bat, Tresetti's has a warm, inviting vibe. It's a great place to have a fancy dinner with your co-workers, and definitely a great place to bring a date. What got me in the doors, was a particular menu item.. I started with an appetizer, the Calamari. They were hot and crispy, but it's a sharing portion. I personally would like to see more sauce options, but their coral island cocktail sauce hits the spot. The price isn't bad, $10.00 is a great price for this Calamari and even better when shared with a friend. When I read the menu outside the establishment, I knew I had to try their Korean Fried Tofu. When I think of a vegan/vegetarian dish, I think of restaurants in the Bay Area. I was not expecting for one of my new favorite tofu dishes to come from Modesto! This meal blew me away, not just with the quality, but also the flavors. The tofu with the pineapple and chipotle yuzu aioli made me savor every bite. The green rice is fantastic, I like the minty aftertaste. I like the culinary surprises this dish has. I was expecting the yuzu aioli to be spicy, but it wasn't in my opinion. I am not 100% sure if this dish is vegan because I don't know how the chipotle yuzu aioli is made, but it's for sure vegetarian. You can always ask. That being said, this is the dish I will be recommending people who are open to trying something new. What a great place in Modesto, come here and try it out! read more

TASTY OR WASTEY? Mostly, Tasty!!! This place has the best salad dressing in the valley. The crème brûlée with extra strawberries is so good, and, a good portion. Once you go in 2-3xs they welcome you like a close friend. The entire staff is very welcoming. Service is great! The only downside to this place are the usual drunks, cussers, loud belligerent cast members, that often forget there are other patrons that go there for a nice quiet dinner. Delicious! The salads were great too. We went to this restaurant last night for the very first time. We were not greeted at first because no one was at the hostess station. Finally, a waitress asked if we wanted to sit down, in the bar, or at a table? We were dressed nice because we were headed to Gallo theater to see Shen Yun. So, we wanted a table. We told the waitress we needed a table as soon as possible, due to heading to the theater. This blonde waitress asked a brunette waitress if there was a table available for us? The brunette waitress told her, "No!" She said, "It will be a "10 to 15-minute wait before we could get a table. "" She was not too friendly about it either. It made my husband and I feel uncomfortable! Maybe she was just having a bad night because she did not seem very happy or friendly, which made us feel funny about even choosing this place. The blonde waitress who asked about a table told us to hold on a minute. She went in a back dining room & came back a few minutes later & told us to follow her. She got us a table within a few minutes, so I have no idea why the other unhappy waitress told us 10 to 15 minutes? We ordered and got our food quickly! It looked delicious, but when I bit into my steak, it was tough, it was not medium like I ordered but we didn't have time to send it back. I hate well done steak! The steak was very herby tasting. Too much rosemary or something. The potatoes were burnt and tasted yucky, so I left them on the plate. They gave a few tiny asparagus, which were the best thing on the plate. My husband got a delicious pork chop, which is why 2 stars instead of 1. My hubby got rice w his porkchop, and it tasted like herbs and wallpaper paste. It was so disgusting! We wanted water, and needed it from all that salty herby taste, but we got no refill until we were all finished w our food. At least that waitress said, "Sorry about that." Our lunch at Tresetti's was outstanding. We started with the always marvelous crab cakes. They're consistently great! The gumbo was scrumptious with delicious flavors and was full of chicken, sausage, onions and peppers. I added the blackened shrimp and that made it perfect. My husband had the fish and chips. It too was delicious. There were 3 good sized pieces of fish, plenty of tartar sauce, coleslaw and tasty garlic fries. It was a substantial meal. Kristi was our server. She's excellent, efficient, cheerful and personable. She always does a great job. The atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. We look forward to returning to Tresetti's very soon. read more

Located in the heart of downtown Modesto lies this remarkable gem of a restaurant. Tresetti's is high end, but not to the point where you would feel out of place if you strolled in casually off the street. We have been here a few different times and the quality and presentation of the food as well as the great service have not changed. Our favorite here is their Calamari. Lightly breaded and extremely tasty. We also tried their pork tacos for the first time. These were not your ordinary tacos. They were like a 3 course meal in a tortilla. The flavors were extremely good and the pulled pork with the pineapple was delicious. We would definitely order this again. We also ordered a fish taco and that was very good as well. A great credit to Modesto dining! Tresetti's provided us a date night dinner that felt special. Bordering on fine dining, with the price point and value of a contemporary faire restaurant, we felt welcomed by Tammy, right away! Reservations were available on a Saturday on the same day. The cocktail menu is fun and the drinks were expertly made. I asked for the caramel apple martini, requesting that the brown liquor be replaced with vodka and it was a wonderful pre dinner cocktail. Wine list has everything needed to complement any dish on the menu. We had clam chowder that was some of the best around! Lucious and creamy and just the right amount! The calamari was wonderful, if a little rubbery for my taste, but flavorful. We had a fantastic server (I hope I get her name correct; Delilah)! The coconut shrimp that came out was overdone. Maybe it was fine on the inside, but the breading was burnt and black. She overheard my comment to my husband about the breading being burnt and she came back and took the dish away and asked the kitchen to re-prepare a plate of coconut shrimp. I appreciated her level of professionalism and awareness. The second plate came out within minutes and still too dark, we questioned if it was really a new dish, but we tried it and it was okay. Still too done on the breading but fine on the inside. The dish that made our entire night was the seafood pasta! The lemon profile came through with flying colors. I cold have had a dish of that pasta all on it's own! The scallops and shrimp were perfectly cooked and the white sauce was excellent. We will be back for sure! read more

Another absolutely wonderful dinner at Tresetti's! We tried two of the new specials and were not disappointed. I had the salmon and my husband had the steak. Both were excellent. Not the usual sides for both with the side for the salmon being mashed potatoes and the steak was french fries. They were interesting and tasty combinations!! Okay...for Modesto! Is that rude? Probably, but that seemed to be the consensus. Well, at least it was okay. There wasn't anything bad about our dinner, but there wasn't anything that would make me tell you to go here right away. Maybe our situation was a little different, as we had a reservation for 10, but came with 11. Which totally worked out and was not an issue for them at all. We walked in and they sat us within three minutes. At first glance I wasn't sure where we'd fit, but Tresetti is way bigger than it appears. We were taken toward the back and they had a room just for us, but left the doors open. We weren't a rowdy bunch, but we were probably louder than a normal group of 11. We had intended to order appetizers, but our server suggested two appetizer platters which came with Calamari, melted Brie, toasted garlic, baguette, and their crab cakes. I tried everything but the calamari. My fave was the melted Brie, it was buttery and delicious. I was hesitant to try the sauce on the crab cake, but it ended up not being spicy at all (as the menu suggested), it was basically mayo with a little flavoring. Of course we ordered bottles of wine for the group. We were a red group. They had a decent list, but I'm no expert on that subject, by any means. Whatever we drank, was good! I started with a Cesar, as did many others. However, mine was sans anchovy filets (as the menu read). It was an average Cesar salad. It wasn't bad at all, but it wasn't amazing. It was lacking any real pop of flavor, but wasn't flavorless. Next came our entrees. I went with the tried and true Filet Mignon, which happened to be wrapped in bacon. My co-worker said that's archaic, but I'm for anything bacon wrapped! For being medium well, it sure was well done. No pink anywhere in the steak. It was still pretty juicy, despite being over cooked. I loved the fried onion strings that topped the plate. The potatoes were a little hard, would have preferred mashed if given the option. I love zucchini so I was stoked to have those too! I snagged a lamb chop from my co-worker and it was really good, it was really flavorful, although a little over cooked. Who doesn't love eating meat straight from the bone! Of course we looked at the dessert menu AND of course I ordered something. I was willing to share some. I ordered the Salted Carmel Cheesecake, which was pretty good. Thankfully, I didn't' taste any of the 'salty' part. I enjoyed this the most, probably. I also snagged a bite of their famous Lemon Ice Box, which wasn't that great either. Also, they list their toppings as Chantilly Cream, but it really is just whip cream. It does not taste like an CC I've ever tasted, no flavor or lightness that I'm used too... Even though Kristen A. mocked my review style, saying I always say things are middle of the road, this place was just that. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. I wouldn't come back because their price point is high for the flavor of their food. But hey, you're in Modesto, so I think your options may be limited. The company outweighed the food! read more

A good solid 3 stars. Okay, part of the reason is it has an atmosphere that I'm simply just not into. I prefer the A&W on 14th & G. I was at Tresetti's for a graduation party. But there's more than that. I asked my niece (the recent grad) about Tresetti's, and she replied that the food is SO GOOD. Now, when it comes to food, good is in the tongue of the taster, so one person might think food is good and another doesn't (this may be how Taco Bell survives). I was slightly underwhelmed: * Salad - My Caesar Salad was pretty good. The girl had a salad with slightly red greens, and she ate very little of it. The Hunny was frustrated at her daughter's finicky taste. Then I ate the slightly red greens, and I hated them; they tasted more like sandpaper than rabbit food. * Gumbo - Tresetti's treats their gumbo as the star attraction. And it was good. The roux was thicker than what I'm accustomed to, including the gumbo I ate in New Orleans years ago. The Hunny grew up in a part of Texas with lots of Coonies, so she has more experience with gumbo than I do, and she had the same reaction to the thick roux. Overall, it had a strong spicy taste to it, more rice than shrimp. * Setting: An upscale cafe in downtown Modesto. It's hard to find the front door, many people at the party said this. Three rooms to eat in, the first one has a bar. Or you can eat outside. Artsy photos on the walls. Cloth napkins. The amount of food you got was medium sized, not meant to fill you up. Servers were attentive and kind. Overall, it felt like Tresetti's was more "a great place to eat food" instead of "a place to eat great food". The placement of "great" in the phrase is important, and in this case, you pay more for the setting than for the food. If that appeals to you, hey, knock yourself out and go to Tresetti's. I'll stick to A&W, especially on Friday nights when the carhops wear roller skates and the Elvis impersonators come out. read more
