One of the most fun dinners I've had in New York! My entire group went for the chef's menu option (HIGH RECOMMEND!!) where you get a diverse selection of items from the main menu. We got salad, fried fish with buns, the foie gras course, the blueberry ribs, and much much more! Everything is served family style and the pacing of the dinner was perfect -- we were never waiting longer than a few minutes between courses. The service is also fantastic and incredibly attentive. They provide bowls of lemon water with courses where you eat with your hands and switch out plates after particularly saucy courses. Such a great experience in a humble and not at all uppity ambiance. We also did the wine pairing, which was a great way to try 4 wines over the course of the dinner!

My friend made reservations for a party of 9 of us, which means we all had to get the chef's selection, which is currently $58 per person aka an amazing deal for the amount and quality of food you get! We sat in the main dining area, but it looked like there was a cute garden area in the back as well, definitely a good date spot or place you'd like to take friends/fam visiting NYC. Service was great, they let us sit while waiting for the rest of our party and gave us descriptions of dish before each course. The fire department was here as well, but the staff still managed to provide the customers top notch service. Other reviews noted that it was loud and hard to hear, however, we did have a 9:30pm resy so the restaurant was clearing out and ultimately it was just our party at the end - we had no issues with any noise during this time. I believe the menu rotates monthly with the Chef Selection, but my top plates were the scallops, japanese fried fish with the bao buns, and the tuna tartare. Highly recommend this place and will be back throughout the year to try out seasonal dishes!

The hype at Traif is real, y'all! Honestly this was one of our best meals on this NYC trip. We took part in their tasting menu and for $58/person it's a great value. Our top 3 favorites were the eggplant tempura with tuna tartare, scallops with risotto, and strawberry cinnamon ribs. All of the courses were so unique but delicious. The service was also exceptional as well. We're so glad to have learnes about this casual yet first class meal, and would highly recommend Traif.

Absolutely worth it if only for the amount of delicious food you get for a $58 tasting menu (8 courses for this price is somewhat unheard of). Immediately started off well. The scallop dish and the tartare may have been some of our favorites of the night and could have eaten these over and over again. The rest of the dishes didn't so much live up to the start, but were still pretty good. The little gem in miso was pretty good, roasted romanesco was fine, pork filet with blue cheese was an interesting combo that I think worked, and glazed ribs with a strawberry on top was a nice touch. I didn't really understand the cavatelli in vodka sauce in terms of the other dishes but taste-wise I didn't mind it. Ending with the pork sliders I feel like was unnecessary, both because they weren't as elevated as the other dishes and just weren't altogether that great. The panna cotta and doughnuts were fine enough. While the food was good, the experience left a lot to be desired. Everyone was nice enough, but the restaurant is so loud and so packed I heard probably 50% of what the waiters told us with each dish. Given such chaos, it would have been clutch if we were given a list of what was on the tasting menu beforehand, as I never knew how much or if more food was coming. We were sat right near the food station and you can tell they just churn this tasting menu out over and over again, so the food at least came quickly. Despite this, it was still definitely worth trying because we did end up enjoying many of the dishes and it was such a good price.

TL; DR: Traif has 2.1 K reviews and 3.8 K photos and is pushing five stars on Yelp. My strong recommendation is to get a fun-loving group together and go share their tasting menu. Outstanding. Ok - some expansion: their menu items are adventuresome and taste great. Perhaps someone in your group might not like an item, but someone else definitely will. The service is fast, friendly, and fun. Ambience is Williamsburg hip & cool. Get a group together, make a reservation, and go make a night of it. You won't be disappointed.

I arrived early and sat at the bar. I ordered the brussel sprouts and an Indian Scotch. Everyone is very nice. I ended up in conversation with the bartender and my server. Great guys. Eventually my party arrived, and we all settled down at a table for a marvelously flavorful "tasting". You know the meal is going well when the conversation is enhanced by the food. The acoustics are a bit loud. The table next to us was loud. I'm sure we were for others. Be prepared to lean in for conversations.

After watching a video review of Traif and the chef selection tasting menu ($58pp), we decided to book for Valentine's Day weekend. A week before the reservation we were informed that the menu for that weekend is actually different and it will be $78pp, and they are unable to cater to any allergies for this menu. I appreciated the email and call to inform customers of this change. We actually arrived 15min prior to restaurant opening and our waitress kindly sat us despite them not being ready. The ambience was cozy. She allowed us to keep one menu, as well so we can reference the dishes as they came out. There weren't any dishes that I disliked and she explained each dish as it was presented at the table. Our favorites were the Gambas Al Ajillo, Lamp chop, Cornish Hen, Rossini, and both desserts. I might dream of the Rossini because the pork "filet mignon" was cooked perfectly and I just loved the pairing with the sauce and apple! Servers were very attentive in clearing the table and bringing us more water. There were times where it did seem a little rushed (like some dishes came out 2 at a time), but I did not mind it. When the bill came out, our waitress informed us that there was an automatic $20 gratuity and that we did not need to tip again. I really enjoyed my time there and I would like to come again and try their regular chef selection menu next time.

This meal was SO good. I've always heard of Traif but this was when they were mostly a pork themed resto and me being a vegetarian, well that just wasn't going to work. Fast forward to 2024 and the menu has some veggie offerings so I immediately said yes. I ordered the gnocchi. My friend had the beef pasta? and we shared the cauliflower, and baby gem. I had a mezcal blood orange drink and we shared a bottle of skin contact wine on recommendation from the waiter. The food was incredible. The gnocchi is the best I've had. Fried, savory but with a hint of sweet from laying in a bed of purple yam purée. Followed by the cauliflower dish. The fresh cucumber and tortilla was a wonderful touch. I love the constant plays on savory, fried, sweet. My taste buds were very pleased. Will definitely need to come back soon.

I have been so looking forward to my birthday dinner this year with my closest friends and we chose Traif. This was Oct. 26th Saturday so this was the pre-Halloween weekend so the area was relatively busy. We went for the 5pm slot so that it would be calmer and it was. We were given a nice table at the further back, near the door that leads to the garden. We knew we would all go for the Chef's Tasting menu because of how incredible the deal sounded and it was. It felt a bit hurried in terms of pace to be honest but quality of food is great. Our favorites were the scallop risotto, and glazed ribs. The bacon doughnuts were small but yum. Appreciate that they brought a small dessert for me in a cup with a little candle. Not sure if that counted for what was supposed to be the key lime pie each but we didn't get that so unsure if they forgot, since the other dessert showed as a separate line item on the receipt. Some of my friends were really looking forward to trying it. Everything was all wrapped up by 6:15 so we were just enjoying our 2nd round of drinks. Went to the restroom and I come back to our table being empty to my surprise. My friends told me that they were abruptly asked to already leave for the next seating, this was approaching 6:30. Needless to say, it wasn't really the best way to end a first impression. One of my friends said she actually had to say something diplomatically. Gentle reminder that it's an overall experience, from food to ambiance to service, so hoping the next experience is better if we ever get back as it's an hour drive for us. P.S For those planning to drive, there's no parking spot nearby, you'd have to make sure you bake in plenty of time to find parking in the nearby blocks.

Phenomenal! I dined at Traif for a friend's dinner and I must admit I had my apprehensions as someone with dietary restrictions (gluten free and no pork). However, I was proven wrong and the chef was quite accommodating to my dietary needs. We did the chef's selection which was 8-9 courses and then dessert. I was able to partake in 7 courses with the group and I had a different dessert. While all of the courses were superbly delicious and offered a unique taste, the Spicy Bigeye Tuna Tartare and the Dayboat Scallops were my favorites! For my cocktail, I had the Rude Little Pig without the bacon rim and for dessert, the chef served me the Nutella mousse but everyone else had the bacon doughnuts which they loved.

    Sidy B.

I say this with ZERO exaggeration: This was the best meal I've ever had. Period. Those strawberry cinnamon glazed ribs were a 21 out of 10. I'm really impressed. So fresh. So delicious. Such a thoughtful menu. Wow.

Decided to give Traif a try for a belated Valentine's Day date night with my partner, and we were both thoroughly pleased with the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere! We opted to try the tasting menu (which is an incredible bargain) and added on the wine pairing as well (which really did pair nicely with all of the dishes). While I don't want to spoil the tasting menu for folks (we personally thought it was best left up to a surprise), we can assure you we enjoyed every single dish and bite we had! It turned out to be a lot of food, but we didn't need to be rolled home ha! Essentially it was ~5 courses (with two dishes brought out at a time for each course, and the last being dessert). We also learned that they change up their menu fairly often (seasonally based), so we are excited to go back and try the tasting menu again!

AMBIANCE: Walking to the restaurant from the subway, it's located on an unassuming block at the corner of 4th St and Havemeyer in Williamsburg, front of store doesn't particularly stand out. Walking in they've decorated with creative, crafty (in a good way) touches--the multitude of ropes draped from the ceiling add dimension to the ceiling and the bar back wall is composed of wood pieces forming a multi-colored herringbone pattern. Textured glass pendant lights hanging from the ceiling throw mini geometric patterns across the dark walls, and vibrant canvas artworks add pictorial interest along the walls. FOOD: YUM. I can see why this place was jam packed on a Saturday night, and reservations are needed. Strong recommendation for their tasting menu at $58 pp, what a delightful meal! 8 sharing dishes and 3 desserts were perfect for a party of five, and drinks are separate though you can add a cocktail pairing for $47. For each main they provide a serving per person, and the desserts are shared. I came hungry and was so full by the end of the meal--everything was delicious! - grapefruit guacamole w/house-made chips: the grapefruit chunks were "meaty" and surprisingly went really well with the guac, it added a different citrus element than the usual lime. Comes with a small bowl of maybe 6-7 chips and we asked for two chips refills since the chips to guac and salsa ratio was low. - spicy faroe islands' salmon tartar: tasty and I liked the latin flavors and corn, snow peas, a touch of wasabi. Flavors of the sesame-soy-truffle-lemon vin and crema got a little muddled. Relatively more "generic" dish of the evening though I was here for it! Any dish with fresh tender salmon, I can't complain. - blue crab and carrot tostada, generous shredded crab salad on top of freshly crisp blue corn tortilla. Topped with pumpkin seeds, dill, cilantro, and saffron-orange aioli. - three cheese & artichoke 'queso fundido': served in a very hot ceramic pot and super melty and delicious, eaten with the fluffy grilled pita and green apple slices + salsa. One of the top picks of the evening. - roasted bone marrow and chorizo, served as tacos with fresh blue corn tortillas, and added a sprinkle of pickled onions--does that sound amazing? Bc it was AAHMAZING. - spicy chipotle-guajillo shimp 'diablo' (not spicy): served with pumpkin tortillas and three accompaniments on the side--mushroom chile crisp, horseradish crema, celery 'salsa macha". Part 2 to make your own tacos was another hit! Our entire table agreed if they sold the sauce for the shrimp we'd all buy it. - heritage pork osso bucco 'carnitas' with Fall-spiced black mole, sour cherry mostardo, calabrian chile pesto: cue drooling now. This part 3 of the tacos was served on pumpkin tortillas; the meat was practically falling off the bone, tender, juicy and flavorful. - buffalo-style com 'elote: sooo good too! A little messier to eat since it comes drizzled with spicy hot sauce butter, feta, lime aioli, cilantro, though totally worth it! - Desserts: --green tea matcha churros: comes with two little pots of spiced mexican chocolate & passion fruit sauce. Warm, sugary and crisp without being too sweet. --pumpkin spiced-vanilla flan: topped with sour cherries, cocoa nibs & toasted seed 'trail mix", if you love flan you'll love this, so smooth and creamy with a bit of crunch and tang from the cherries. --pistachio tres leches cake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry, using an olive oil cake: we all agreed this was probably the best tres leches we've ever had. The pistachio nuttiness and the creaminess from the milks paired well. SERVICE: Very friendly and attentive service though it was very loud in the restaurant and they had to really shout. There was a delay in the middle of our meal I think bc kitchen was slammed, after the entree we waited about 35 min for our desserts. Considering they limited the seating to 2 hours and about half of our party arrived 20 min late, and accounting for the long wait pre-dessert, they did us solid by extending our table time by about an hour in total. Also great that they brought the first dessert out with a candle for my friend's birthday.

Our servers were also so accommodating and funny when we had very staggered arrivals and various allergies at the table.

The space is so beautiful but since I came here for the happy hour, I was very disappointed with limited options. A cocktail flight of 3x for $20 is okay, but Im also not trying to get drunk at 5pm. $6 for a cocktail would have been preferred. Also the drinks are too sweet and I only liked one of them. The bartenders were nice, but it wasn't the spot for me solo. Maybe a date.

The sprouts came in a pile which was a surprise! They were perfectly roasted and hit just the spot. The duck leg was beyond tender. I don't think I had duck that tender before and it was on a bed of mint and fairy eggplant puree. I've never had eggplant in this format and it was a dream. Definitely a unique dish. I'm not much of a chocolate person nor a big dessert person in general......however I absolutely crushed my portion of the mousse cup and clearly it was big enough to share with 2 people! The draft wine was surprisingly delicious. Our server was incredibly sweet. The patio was very very cute. I would definitely return for future casual hangouts.

First off staff is SO friendly- genuinely kind. The wines were fantastic especially if you love a natural wine. My fav was Couples Goals. The breakfast was delicious and balanced- highly recommend the merguez and eggs- tasty earthy sausage, creamy scrambled eggs, tangy kale salad, and a delicious avocado. Good vibes. Indoor and outdoor space. Highly recommend!

My favorite dish here is probably the mussels, great flavor and would probably go well with a glass of wine! The first time I came I tried a cocktail which was very good but because the dishes are very flavorful it might have been too much sugar/salt. The portions here are huge as well so I think for the price its very worth it. It's a cute restaurant as well with open kitchen so great for a date if you're sitting at the bar or if you have a group the tables are pretty big as well. Overall, it's pretty spread out inside which I really appreciate and I have found that it's pretty easy to get a reservation last minute. I'm already looking forward to going again in the coming weeks!

My experience was nothing short of spectacular. Once I told my friends I was visiting town for the…read moreweekend, we immediately said we would do dinner. This place was the winner, and it was everyone's first time. We got in at our reserved time, and we had to wait about 5 minutes before our table was ready. Once it was, we were taken care of and quite frankly had no idea what treat we were in for! Let's start with the drinks. They have a drink on the menu called Celadon City. Who won the staff as a pokémaniac?! I had to get it just for the name. The rice vodka, yuzu, melon liqueur, and other flavors made it a fantastic, summery drink. My friends got the Smooth Landing & Smooth Talker ... One was a fantastic dirty martini and the other had the best bite of ginger. The food... Oh my God. We decided to split the breads and spreads and burrata... Each came with their housemade grilled focaccia, and the smoked paprika hummus and ricotta with chili honey? WHEW! The burrata dish with the sweet potato, pesto and tomato jam was a hit too. The menu didn't even say I'd have a balsamic drizzle on top! All of that was just the warm up... My gnocchi dish was spectacular. I'm not even a big mushroom person, but those oyster mushrooms and charred kale were a hit in the pasta. My friends' gigli pasta and mussels were great too. We ended up sharing a bottle of white wine as well, and the dinner was truly a 5/5. 0 I would absolutely go back, and it seems like their menu changes every now and then. I'm looking forward to the next time! Even if it's just for a cocktail.
