Tuna tartare on tempura eggplant- yum 2. Burrata with BBQ chips- yum but chip too salty 3. Bean salad- pretty good 4. Spatzle- pretty ok 5. Frog legs buffalo wings- soft, not my things 6. Beef sliders- pretty okay. Good smoked paprika aoili and another potatoey sauce 7. I felt pretty disappointed with my dining experience here in January. I came with a party of four and did the chef's tasting menu. The food was average at best, often rushed, we'd have two dishes served at once which was extremely annoying considering our table was too small to accommodate this. It was sometimes served hot but mostly it was lukewarm. Very frustrating. We made a reservation for the dining room but somehow ended up in the covered patio which wasn't warm or cozy. Our "dining table" was just rickety patio furniture. Our server was just okay. He definitely missed opportunities to let us know what we're supposed to enjoy next. The music was loud, the bathroom needs an upgrade like 3 years ago. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because I do have amazing memories of coming here in the mid 2010's and those experiences were epic. Now it's just a ghost of its once great reputation. We are 4960 miles away from home. big bustling city. Hungry and tired from a 4 hour drive down from Boston. My wife find us this gem of a restaurant. We found street parking not too far from the restaurant,It was bitterly cold for people from Hawaii walking in 30 dig weather is not my idea of fun. I was hungry, grumpy and tired. But all that melted away once I stepped into this quaint little restaurant. We were greeted with a "Welcome!" As soon as we stepped in. My first experience was amazing. We decided to do the Chef's menu both times and had different experience each times. First experience - food came out on time & was on point. Everything was amazing. Second Experience - The first five plates were great. But everything went downhill after that. We waited 15 mins for the next plate & it was the exact same thing they brought out for plate #2. Server apologize and took the plate back. 5 mins later, same thing happened. He brought out another plate & it was the same as plate #3. I've been to Traif three times and each time I walk away feeling so satisfied. The last time I visited Traif was 5 years ago and more recently this month. I finally had a big girl budget and tried the tasting menu, which at $55, was a very reasonable price. While I could go ahead and list everything on my tasting menu, I think the only important thing to know is, I thought every dish was very high quality. Special shout out to the foie gras, because...foie gras is probably my true love. Also the wine pairing for $35 is a steal and I thought they went together very well. The food is a little bit on the heavier side, but still so delicious. Service was also impeccable as we went on a Thursday night and it was a bit more quiet. Highly recommend! read more

This is a wonderful oasis in the epicenter of Hipsterdom. Have to love Williamsburg -- even the Dunkin Donuts has a special artisan version of their logo. Ok, so Traif. This place just goes for it and gets it...so well. Cocktails were great as was the Rosè. Had a wonderful revolving door of dishes including gnocchi and Japanese Snapper. Both were fantastic. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here on a Friday night. I've been wanting to come to Traif for awhile now since I've been to their sister restaurant, Xixa, and loved it. We both did the $55 tasting menu and added $10 for the truffle and foiegras dish. Everything was really good as expected. We were both very full at the end. I loved the roasted cauliflower and the scallops risotto dish the most. I still prefer Xixa a little more. The service was good at Traif but Xixa was a lot more attentive and host/servers were more engaging. Traif just got too busy towards the end of the night. Traif is also a little too loud for a nice anniversary dinner. Xixa is definitely a better option in terms of ambiance and service if you don't want to be screaming at each other. read more

Definely one of the best (if not THE) best restaurants in Brooklyn! Three of us went for dinner on a Saturday night. Our server recommended 7-10 courses, which would have been more than enough. We wound up ordering 14 because the food was just SO GOOD. The highlights were the pork belly, the scallops, the gnocchi and the bacon donuts. But literally, it was all fantastic! My only complaint (and it's minor!) the food comes out as it's ready, so our early dishes started to pile up a bit. My husband and I visited Traif this past weekend during a visit to Brooklyn. We ordered the chef's menu and couldn't be more pleased that we did! We *loved* the meal that we had there. It is difficult to say which items were our favorite. Each dish was impeccable and tasted fresh. The flavors/textures were complex and dynamic but still approachable/recognizable. I recommend making reservations because this place quickly filled up! We started off with the Rude little Pig cocktail with the rim coated in bacon bits, that's right, bacon!!! It was delicious. The chef here is a genious. Each dish that my sister ate was amazing! The menu has many choices that are meant to be shared. Between two people it is recommended you order 5 dishes, or six if you are very hungry. Each dish on average costs $10 (for more light dishes) to $19 (for more rich dishes). We ordered: Start off with complimentary sweet potatoe soup shooter (YUM) white fish sauteed in a bacon sauce over a bed of flavorful seaweed salad (YUMMY) Big-Eye Tuna over vegetable tempura with delicious sauce (Whoa, so good!) Bork Belly with potatoe puree, string beans, and grapefruit (WOW, it all came together perfectly) Mussels with shrimp, sausage, in a white wine garlic sauce (salivating just thinking about it) Strawberry, pomegranite, cinammon marinated short ribs (Heavenly, fall of the bone deliciousness) For dessert: Nutella Mousse (light, fluffy and mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good) Caramel Glazed FRESH DONUTS with BACON, Dulce de Leche ice cream on the side (AMAZING dish to end your meal!) Our waitress and other staff were very courteous and answered all questions we had. After dining here, I am a huge fan. The food and the service was amazing. It is a true gem right smack in Brooklyn. It's normally packed in the evenings so you either need reservation or plan to come in around 6:30 PM. My favorite were the pork belly, baby back ribs, and the soft shell crabs. Delicious food tasting! Definitely left feeling full and satisfied overall. The wine pairing is a good deal at $35 for 2 whites, 2 reds, and a dessert wine. I was a huge fan of both the whites, but not so much for the reds... I had to leave the 2nd red mostly in my glass after a couple sips. The dessert wine was pretty smooth and enjoyable with the desserts. The pours were about 3/4 glasses. The waiter did break one of my glasses as he was trying to place it on the table, but luckily it was still empty and he brought me a new one. As for the cocktails, I was a fan of the Chinese Medicine, but it was met with mixed reviews by the people I was dining with. The Red Pearl was pretty universally liked, me included. The Year of the Pig was universally disliked (do not recommend unless you want the taste of straight tequila with some bacon thrown in). The Fois Gras Baos were pretty good, but quite fatty. The acidic, crisp white wine I had definitely helped there. I would prefer that my baos are steamed rather than fried, however, especially with how fatty the fois gras already is. The King Salmon with Spicy Cucumbers was probably my favorite dish of the night. Great flavors and wonderful combination of textures. I also quite enjoyed the Strawberry Cinnamon Babyback Ribs, which is a flavor pairing I haven't really had before, but worked well. We were a group of 5 who dined in tonight for dinner and made reservations a couple weeks in advance. We opted for the chef's selection as it was only $55 pp. We all got drinks, I had the "a rude little pig", it was good and not too sweet! The rim was salty and pieces of bacon around it. The three top dishes that stood out to me was: First selection was the salad with mandarin orange, beets, etc. it was absolutely yummy and delicious!! Second selection we received was the triple truffle pasta. It was creamy, delightful and savory. The pasta was cooked to a nice consistency and I'm happy the truffle didn't overwhelm the entire dish. Third dish was scallop and risotto. The scallop was cooked perfect, not too chewy or over cooked. The flavor of the risotto was rich and buttery. The other dishes were mediocre and wasn't really memorable in my opinion. Service was okay, they seemed a bit busy so that was understandable. Food took a while for each dish to come out. This is a very cute cozy restaurant in the neighborhood. It's not that visible from the outside. I came with my friend on a Thursday night and made a reservation ahead for 7pm. It was not crowded initially and then later the place was packed. My friend and I came here for the first time and wanted to do the chef selection menu. On the menu, it states that the chef selection is for party of 3 or more. The server told us that they could do it on a slow night like this, and we were like great! It was like a 12 course meal! All the popular dishes came with the chef selection (strawberry short ribs, foie gras, short rib sliders, bacon donuts, key lime pie, coffee ice cream). The service was attentive and fast. The portion was not that big for each item, and I was worried that I wouldn't be full by end of all these (yes, I eat fast ant eat a lot). Luckily, each dishes just came one after another. I enjoyed most of the dishes for sure except the desserts. My favorites were foie gras, duck breast and the short rib sliders (wish the portions were bigger). They were nice enough to give us 3 desserts (key line pie, bacon donuts with coffee ice cream, and the 3rd one I couldn't tell what was it)! Too bad I didn't like the desserts that much. Overall it was a pleasant experience: fancy food presentation, attentive service, variety of dishes. And you cant forget the bacon donuts, the important thing isnt the bacon even though thats key, the dough of the donut was so light and airy almost like a souffle. We came for a big group dinner and went with the tasting menu. Started with the haiku, a cocktail with gin, lime, yuzu. It was a little more tart than I had anticipated but still enjoyable. They have a pretty extensive wine list but only two reds were available by the glass. For food, we were started with shots of curry lentil soup that was quite delicious. Then came the salad with sweet potato/carrot (?) which had a weird kind of sour taste, definitely different than any salad I've had. Scallops on squid ink risotto followed, I'm not a huge fan of scallops but the risotto was quite good. My favorite plates were the duck and the seared foie gras. Polenta that was came with had kind of a crumbly texture, not as smooth as I would have liked. Foie gras was perfectly decadent and delicious, but that's pretty hard to screw up. Spicy tuna had quite a kick and were served on some kind of crispy (I think eggplant). Others at the table really enjoyed the braciole but I was quite full at this point. The ribs were a little too sweet for me. Lamb bolognese was quite yummy. Bacon doughnuts were very dense and chewy, the ice cream that came with it was great. Key lime pie is usually a favorite but it didn't really have the tartness of lime, and the licorice cream was a bit much. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and they definitely give you a lot of food.
