Worse service I have ever encountered at a restaurant. Our waitress took our order for 3 people. Lobster rolls & fried fish sandwich. We got our drinks and drank them. Our waitress never checked on us to see if we wanted anymore water or drinks. We waited over 40mins for our food & we notified our waitress of the long wait. Very disappointed! We were told at the window when placing our order it would be 20 minutes. An hour later our food was ready. It's fried food for Pete's sake. Either way the food was not even good. Probably some of the worst seafood I've had. Now for the service...these folks are straight up rude! We ate there at 7pm and by 2:45am I was praising the porcelain if you know what I mean. Returning to Bar Harbor from Schoodic section of Acadia, we stopped at Tracy's for a seafood meal and boy was it great. Besides steamed lobster, there were steamers, corn on cob, and chowder, and then some home-made blueberry pie with fresh berries-- delicious and all for an unbeatable price. Some Atlantic Porter topped off this feast. Ambiance is very simple, wait staff friendly and attentive. Suggestion: Arrive before 7 PM so that steamer pots are active and hot so you won't wait too long for your lobstah. read more

Delicious! The clam chowder was buttery and had whole steamers in it. It was a very delicious and unique flavor compared to other chowders I've had. The lobster roll was also great. It was filled pretty decently. Some places skimp but this was great. They also had a great 2 for $18 deal by the way. Totally worth it! I've driven around Downeast Maine a lot this summer and really this might be the best lobster roll I've had... lots of butter on the roll which is key and not a huge amount of mayo on the lobster, and a lot of claw meat. Service was really slow which keeps it from being a five star, but the lobster roll was really good. read more

It was August 25, my 30th birthday, and we were on the hunt for a simple delicious lobster roll at a fair price. On the drive up Route 1 to my parent's house in Sullivan we couldn't find anything under $15!! When you see signs for lobster at $4/LB, it's pretty hard to stomach that much of a mark-up. My folks recommended Tracey's and sure enough we got rolls at 2 for $10 and they were fantastic! These aren't the overflowing ones that make you think you're getting a deal, you'd get more in two rolls at Tracey's than you would in any other joint, and at 2/3 the price! Not to mention the friendly service and beautiful location. If you're ever Downeast, and want to find a lobster roll, make sure you stop in at Tracey's. And please, slow down, there's no reason to be going 80. read more

We drove from Boston MA to Eastern Most point Lubec Maine, and had lobsters all of the Maine, but Tracey's Lobsters and clam chowder were the best!!! We came back there twice and both times were not disappointed. The lobsters were super fresh and clams in chowder were huge. It looks like a shack but has a sit down dining area inside. After waiting 15 minutes for someone to wait on us, even after watching them serve a woman who'd come in after us her drink, I thought "Ok it's no big deal if the food is good". Sadly the food was terrible. The clam chowder was thin and oily, had nothing but a few pieces of clam - no potatoes - and tasted so bad I almost had to spit it out. The piece of corn served with the lobster platter was inedible - the smallest ear of corn I have ever seen and half of it had no kernels. Even the lobsters were disappointing. How can you mess up a steamed lobster? My kids had BLTs and the bacon was rubbery and undercooked. Worst meal we had in Maine by far. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Only now getting around to reviewing some of the places we visited this past summer on our Clam Quest 2013. We were seeking the best fried clams in Maine. Lived in Massachusetts for decades and have enjoyed the legendary fried clams of the North Shore towns of Ipswich and Essex, so we know all about the competition from other New England states. Never would have dreamed of stopping at this roadside dive if it hadn't been for the persuasive recommendation of a trusted local. The place is basically a soft-serve ice cream joint on Rte. 1 north of Ellsworth with an attached dining room. No frills at all. We ordered a bunch of the usual stuff: I think the wife got clam chowder and the kids got lobster rolls (no complaints). But it was the fried clams that really blew us away! They were expectedly crispy on the outside and piping hot/melt-in-your-mouth on the inside, with just the slightest hint of salty brine. Really really fresh tasting. I commented to the waitress how great the clams were and she said, "Yeah, they were dug this morning and he just brought them in a couple hours ago!". The local guy who recommended this place mentioned that the owner was a fisherman/lobsterman/wholesaler who supplied many of the neighboring Down East establishments with clams and lobster. It's not surprising. Just want to give credit where credit is due: To whomever this mysterious fisherman is (Tracey?) - yours are the best damn fried clams I have ever had, anywhere, at any time. We purchased 2 lobster rolls and clam chowder. Best price we found for lobster rolls, 2 for $16. The chowder was $10. We got takeout which took almost 30 mins to come out. While waiting we had the pleasure of listing to some local guys blasting their car radio and beeping the horn while screaming profanities.... seriously. The lobster rolls were good, no complaints. The clam chowder..... what the hell?!? I've had many chowders in my life but this takes the cake. It was a few hole clams in hot milk with some butter mixed in. No potatoes or any other ingredients. Went there to get ice cream, open sign was up all the lights were on and we got out to order. We stood there for ten minutes deciding our order and waiting for someone to help us, took down the open sign and shut off all the lights with us standing there. A simple "sorry we're closed." would have been nice, but I guess being polite isn't on the menu. read more

We took a family outing today and stopped by to have some lunch. We went into the dining room to eat. The run down place didn't have a huge menu, so we ordered the haddock burgers. The waitress, instead of putting in our order, went over to the the other table to finish gossiping with the customers. After about 20 minutes she brought us our burgers. The burgers were nasty. They were greasy, falling apart, and somehow burnt. Our fries and onion rings were the same. We didn't see the waitress again until about 10 minutes after we finished eating. We stopped stopped for lobster rolls and dinner after a 10 hour drive to get to Maine.. The lobster dinner was great... 2 medium lobsters with fries and coleslaw for $12.95 was a great deal. The lobsters were very meaty, the fries were hot and fresh and the coleslaw had nice flavor without having too much mayo. The lobster rolls are the best value and full of meat. Not too much dressing, and a perfectly toasted roll. No better deal anywhere 2 for $10. My 94 year old grandmother loves the lobster chowder. She is a native New Englander who had her own classic recipes, she says the lobster is so tender and sweet, melts in your mouth. The fried clams are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Awful experience. First thing we see is a sign on the door that says no lobster today. No problem as we aren't getting lobster but kind of odd just the same. It is Maine. We go to the takeout window where there was one family in front of us in line and nobody else around. We ordered some clams with fries and some burgers with onion rings. Pretty basic stuff for a take out joint in Maine. The wait for the food was endless. Never seen anything like it. Even if out of this world busy I wouldn't expect an order to take so long but it was literally us and one other family at the takeout window, besides people coming for ice cream. It was about an hour before the food came and by that time nobody was expecting it to be much good given the trouble it was to cook it. When I went to the window, I informed the server that we had some drinks coming. He asked what they were and I told him and he informed me they were out of Pepsi. Cans of Pepsi that is. No lobster and no pepsi at a takeout stand in Maine in July. OK. To top it off they had no ice. Trifecta. We worked out the drink order, at least the cans of soda were cold and I half expected a little, sorry about the wait, in which case I'm the first one to say, oh, don't worry about it. But of course I got nothing. Back at the table we opened the boxes of food and I could tell right away that the onion rings would not get eaten by anyone. There goes $6 out the window. They looked exactly like sauteed onions. Hardly any batter, soft and gross. Other than a few stranglers with some batter, none were eaten. The burgers by all accounts were OK. The fries were edible but that is about it. The clams fortunately were good but nothing I would go back for. I like them crunchy and these were not. The batter was tasty and they had the right amount of batter but just not a fried clam if they aren't crispy in my view. The clams might be great on another day but if that is the case clearly there are some quality control issues. We even planned on grabbing some ice cream after and decided to go down the road and get them elsewhere after spending $40 on fried food that wasn't crunchy and in some cases couldn't even be eaten. Had we been treated with a little respect over the time it took to cook it and had slightly better food we would have spent the $15 extra dollars there. read more

I was looking at some travel pictures from the summer of 2012 and ran across a photo of my plate of fried clams from Tracy's. We were headed from the Maritimes back to Illinois and I had a taste for fried clams. We looked at the map and saw that the places we used to go north of Boston would be too far out of our way. I was feeling disappointed when I spotted Tracy's as I drove by. I did a u-turn. They were the biggest and best fried clams I ever had. I asked the young waitress if they were local clams and she said, "My grandpa picks 'em and my grandma shucks 'em." I think I've eaten in restaurants in all 50 states and 20 foreign countries, and this was my favorite meal ever!` read more

In mid October, we stopped in for 2 for $10 lobster rolls and a $12 fried clams and were not disappointed. The lobster rolls were smallish, but at this price together they were the biggest ever for $10. We have paid more ($15-18) for one lobster roll with two thirds the total meat in these bargains. The good: outstanding seafood. The 2 for $15 lobster rolls were piled high with fresh, succulent meat and flavored perfectly with butter. The fried clams were plump, juicy, and deliciously--yet not overly--battered. Lunch at Tracey's was the perfect send-off from Downeast as I headed to the airport to go back to reality. The not-so-good: Tracey's seems to have a tendency--intentional or not--to charge more than the prices stated on the menu. I ordered a clam roll, priced at $10.95, to supplement the lobster rolls, but when I looked at my receipt, I saw that I'd been charged $12.95. When I asked the cashier, she quipped that the price just changed in the machine that morning. I responded that the menu said $10.95 (with the unspoken expectation that I should be charged the advertised price.) She snapped back with irritation that she hadn't had time to change the board yet. No apology, no realization that she should have informed me of the price change when I placed my order, and certainly no concept of the ethical lapse the business was committing. My father, who was with me, then remarked that the same thing had happened to him on a previous visit, and the response was equally snippy. So I just don't grasp Tracey's approach here. If the mistake is an oversight, there should be an apology and refund to the advertised price. But if this is an intentionally duplicitious tactic of overcharging customers, then Tracey's may deserve further scrutiny. I wouldn't mind paying the higher price--the clams, as I said, were outstanding. But it's a pity that Tracey's has a repeatedly dubious record of mislabeling their menu, and a surly staff that refuses to acknowledge the errors. I'll be back--but I'll scrutinize my receipt and make sure I pay no more than the advertized price. read more

We ordered lobster to be cook for carryout around 3pm and was told yes, they had lobster. When we went at 6 pm to pick up our lobster we were told the owner had told the wait staff to sell to walk ins and forget about the call in orders. So even though our order was still written on the board and was earlier then the people who were there ordering, they sold them to the walk ins forgetting about the locals who help their business In the lean times. The reason I call in the order to take home was because of all the flies in their eating room, its so full of flies that they land on your food and table which is dirty, who know what their kitchen looks like if they don't care about the place you eat. read more
