Toyo Ramen Bar is a great ramen option in park slope. The atmosphere is very pleasant with dim lighting and light music. Table seating and bar seating are both available. I went on a summer evening and they had their windows open with a nice breeze. There is free wifi and a restroom. I'm not sure if there are any no laptop rules but I read a book at the bar while I ate with no problem. Staff is very friendly and helpful without being too overbearing. My ramen came out within five minutes of ordering which was a welcome surprise! I had the Toyo Tonkotsu Black and it was delicious. The broth is creamy and flavorful. There are little dried garlic chips that I haven't seen at many other ramen places that added little bursts of flavor. The pork belly was seared nicely with a golden crust and tender fat pieces. I prefer my ramen with thick noodles over thin noodles which was an easy substitute to make. The thick noodles are chewy and bouncy. The marinated egg wasn't as strong in flavor as I prefer and was a little past soft boiled but overall the ramen was delicious! My ramen and drink were around $26 which is pretty affordable! They have plenty of options including pork, chicken, and vegetarian options. Obviously ramen makes up the majority of the main dishes on the menu but they have rice bowls and plenty of appetizers as well. They seem to do some seasonal offerings too. I went in the summer and they had a chilled soba noodle dish on the menu. They also have a happy hour Monday-Friday 2:30-4:30pm with 20% off all food and drink which is a nice deal. I had the fruit berry tea and it was delicious and refreshing with fresh berries and cucumber pieces. It also came in an adorable panda cup. Drink menu also had offerings for boba and some alcoholic beverages. Overall great place to have a meal and enjoy some company or solitude! I'll definitely be back to try some of the other offerings on the menu! read more

I have been eating ramen ever since I was a kid in NYC and I have even been to Japan, but I can safely say that this is definitely one of the better ramen spots in NYC! First of all, the interior is really cute and the service is really amazing, I was immediately given iced cold water and hot tea once I sat down. The bathroom was also very clean and well kept. I got the Toyo Tonkotsu Ramen and I really appreciate how it came with two half-eggs (when most ramen places in NYC only give you one half of an egg). The egg was perfectly cooked and jammy. The broth was the star of the show - it was perfectly garlicky and oniony and also the right amount of spice. (you can adjust the spice level to your liking - just ask the server). The pork belly could have been better though - I wish it was more fatty - the pork was pretty lean. Overall, I would definitely come again. I highly recommend. read more

My husband started frequenting this place after it was recommended by our friend/colleague. This ramen bar is NOT your traditional Japanese ramen. The noodles are not Japanese style ramen so I dock half a star for the authenticity factor because everyone is entitled to their own take on ramen dishes. The owners are Chinese so it's not gonna be like Ramen Danbo or anything. However, the broth of the ramen is pretty darn close to the real thing. It's a really good pork broth, perfectly balanced, not too oily or salty, or spicy. Their seasoned egg is the perfect jamminess, it's not runny, yet not fully cooked through so it stays nice and soft. The noodles are not firm or straight. It's similar to the wavy ramen noodles you get from instant ramen cups/ packets. The chashu is two slices, and it's tender but thicker slices. Flavor is great, well seasoned and not overly savory or salty. Some places can really ruin chashu by making it too salty. They offer kaidame or extra noodles for $4. At first I was surprised how much extra noodles cost compared to other ramen places but when they gave me a big plate of it, I was like okay, justified. Anyway, they seem to offer a full serving of extra noodles instead of half. Keep that in mind when ordering. You might just be better off ordering another regular bowl of ramen to avoid having too much noodle to broth ratio. I tried a few appetizers during my visits here. I love the bang bang shrimp, it's light, crunchy and delicious. I tried the Toyo bun which is chashu and greens in a steamed bun. It was good, but not great. It really needs something acidic to cut through the flat tones of the steamed bun and greens. I think adding kimchi to this bun would make it a real winner. The interior is very open and bright with large windows looking out to the street. They have big seats and tables and they're not too close together so you don't feel on top of other people. Service is great. They're always super welcoming and they take care of my husband who is a regular in the evenings during his lunch break. They remember their customers which is nice. They're also pretty quick. You can have lunch in here and be out within 30-45 minutes. Perfect for anyone working nearby to have a nice hearty, warm bowl of ramen during the cold winter months. We're super happy with this restaurant. It's centrally located on 7th avenue. Close to the hospital where we work, and there's plenty of metered parking for fellow drivers. Close to the train station also for fellow commuters. Overall, good ramen place. Not authentic to traditional Japanese ramen, but again, it's their take and it's a pretty tasty one! I had ordered two ramen entrees and both didn't not fit the profile of Japanese ramen. It was very much more inline with Chinese Sichuan spicy noodles. The profile of the food was more filling of Chinese noodles which makes sense since the owners and wait staff are Chinese.
