Super cute small "Towne" place! Food is great and service on point! Found it on Yelp and got off highway for it! In pretty town area...

You know me by now. You know I hate all food options in Clinton. You know I hate almost all food west of I-287. You know I hate food in small towns: low population density equals crap swill. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised by this place!! Food's pretty hot n good. Four stars for food. Solid diner Prices are fantastic. 5 stars for prices. But I should mention, the real extra star goes to the waitresses, who are very nice. There is this one waitress (you know the one!) who has basically the most attractive face I've ever seen. Like supermodel attractive. The type of face that is meant for the screen. ("We're gonna make you a star, kid!!!" Would say the cigarette-voiced smarmy talent agent.) This is objective: this woman has such a beautifully symmetric face, that when I was looking at it, I felt ashamed of my own face. That ONLY happens to me when a person is so attractive it makes me feel like I am biologically lesser. Looking into her fascinating aryan face, I felt like a little hebraic rat. A I felt like I had weaker DNA. I felt grotesque, with my baggy eyes, my enormous shnoz and my negligently-orthodontized teeth. I felt like a monster. I felt like I was doing her a DISSERVICE because she had to look at me. She goes from the mirror in the morning where everything is so amazing, to staring at this frickin freak, whose ugly mug is piercing her placid retinas. Thats why I had to tip well. Consider the Mona Lisa...Except: Mona Lisa is like a 3. Maybe she was a 10 in 1512 AD. Every time she walked by, I observed men's googly pathetic eyeballs veering from their grotesque hickish/doughy wives and looking at this waitress, as a symbol of rebellion, perfection and freedom...and escape....from Clinton. One of the weirdest towns in America. Now let me give you CLOWNS (cause thats what you are) a lesson in romantic value: Lets say I'm a 5 outta 10. Im statistically average. I CANT DATE a 10. A 10 is just too good. Too mystical. If she's too attractive it just becomes awkward. I.e. the Louvre is nice to visit/tremble in awe at its aesthetics...but you wouldn't wanna LIVE THERE. A man should only date a woman 1-3 hotness points above himself (preferably 3. Duh). I love 8s. Thats the "normalcy" range. You obviously cant date a girl below your own ugly mug. That's against human nature. An 8 male can date a 10 female, though. Now....most men cant really get above a 6. The male gender is just too grotesque. Only a rare male can date a supermodel. Anyway. You guys are great and make great food but you really need new fries. They are like the gross ones in the cafeteria from elementary school. A fry completes a meal and yours are just like chewing on cardboard. Unseasoned, mushy, no crisp. Up the fry game and yall are perfect. Modifications on doordash would be nice too. read more

We love visiting Clinton, and have never been to this restaurant. We usually go to Dora's for lunch, but decided to come here instead. So happy we did! I had the grilled chicken pesto focaccia, and it was delicious! The chicken was juicy and the focaccia was fresh. The fries were crispy and not greasy at all. Great service too. This was such a great find as Ye Olde Sub Base was closed on the Sunday we arrived looking for lunch. Great local spot with a variety of menu items for breakfast and lunch. Diner items and also a large selection of salads, sandwichedand sharables. We sat at the counter (I love watching the chefs cook) and placed our orders. Chicken pesto on focaccia for me and gyro for the husband. We were there just before they closed so we got our food quickly and it was delicious. My only complaint if there was one was I wish the sandwich had a little more to it. But it was truly delicious, fresh mozzarella, chicken and roasted peppers are one of my favorite combinations and this sandwich did not disappoint. Great local casual spot with a family atmosphere. We usually stop at The Clinton Diner when we travel to visit family in New York. We decided to try something different, so we stopped at Towne Restaurant for lunch. I had a hamburger and fries, and it was not very good. Over cooked and not fresh tasting. My wife's lunch was okay but not great. We won't stop here again. read more

This spot is serving HAIR in their ice! The "Owner's wife" as she (our server) said, had her hair intertwined in our ice. Unbeknownst to us. When my friend opened is bottled water and poured it inside of the cup with ice and HAIR, the long brown strand was intertwined in it. Can anyone holla DISGUSTING! But wait it gets worse...when we pointed it out to the "Owner's wife" she shrugged and said "oh!" Very NONCHALANTLY. So, after I brought it to her attention once again, she then apologized...I explained to her how we felt and that it turned us off. I also reminded her about the POWER OF CUSTOMER SERVICE...her exact response was "oh I understand, I took the half bottle of water off the check!" How grateful we were she had just enough, sense to at the very least take the 'half bottle of water' off our bill. My point in this review is not only to make other customers and potential customers aware of the negligence the restaurant offers but also the callus attitude of the "Owner's wife"! This can be a teachable moment for The TOWNE RESTAURANT in Clinton, New Jersey. When a customer finds the "Owner's wife's" HAIR in their drink, go ABOVE AND BEYOND...not mediocre customer service...by offering to remove the cost of the HAIR DRENCHED WATER...how easy would that have been...and cost effective, because it is now my hope that EVERYONE steers clear of that restaurant... read more

Long wait time to be seated on a Sunday morning which is understandable, but the service never improved once we were seated. The food ranged from mediocre to pathetic, and we were never offered refills on beverages. The orange juice was served hot and the maple syrup was watered down. The nachos were the WORST nachos I've ever had. They basically put no toppings on them so they were bone dry, and for some reason they used tomato slices like you would on a sandwich instead of dicing them. I have to assume whoever made the nachos has never seen nachos before in their life. I ate one chip off the plate and was so disappointed that the nachos sat untouched for the rest of the meal. Our server never asked if there was something wrong with the food or offered us a to go box. I would never go back to this establishment and I suggest you don't either! read more

We called in a take out order for 2 of the Classic Breakfast Sandwiches (simple Bacon, Egg & Cheese) and requested to add hot sauce. Upon pick up I thought it was odd an $8 breakfast sandwich cost $25 for 2 but we didn't want to argue. After we got home we realized the young girl who took our order must have mixed up "hot sauce" and "hot dog" and charged us for a custom sandwich - Bacon Egg and Hot Dog. We called and she offered to refund us the difference and make us new sandwiches. When we walked in her boss (and potentially the owner) was at the cash register with her and asked us for $8 for the new sandwich (clearly a miscommunication between them as well) - I explained we already paid and how both sandwiches were incorrect. No apology for the inconvenience - I was rudely handed a $5 refund for the $25 mistake. The remade breakfast sandwiches appeared to be 7/11 quality - for $8 a piece don't bother coming here. read more

I should have known something was up when they spelled town wrong. It's possible that way back in the day when this place opened, the sign company printed the restaurant name wrong and they just decided to roll with it because that is what I felt about their food, ambiance and overall diner feel - complacency. It's not that this place is terrible, it seems to be just fine with itself being extremely mediocre because it is a Clinton staple. It should be said that I love diners and know diners and therefore my judgment may be slightly skewed...or not. My server was friendly and attentive, but after that it just was not that good. My son ordered mozzarella sticks, against my recommendation, and although he though they were ok, they were so deeply fried and not at all soft on the outside that they could barely be cut in half. My daughter had a kids meal hamburger and fries - the hamburger was overdone (much better than underdone, but still not good). I had the turkey club, which is my go-to diner order, and it included all the ingredients, but it was almost impossible to eat. There are few humans who could actually fit this 3-decker in their mouth and I feel a little strange that I was one of them. To finish it off we all split the homemade rice pudding which was very bland and uninspired. This is one of my favorite hidden gems. Not that it's much of a secret based on how busy they get. It's high end home made comfort foods! Breakfast is amazing but so is lunch! I get the 2x2 for breakfast and this is the best spot for a patty melt. ( not pictured are my French fries or the neat little basket they came in.) I've just left after enjoying my breakfast, it was super busy, and had the honor of sitting at the counter. I was able to watch the team of cooks, working as a well oiled machine and the food was delicious and cooked perfectly! The servers up to the managers all worked together and all had smiles, not showing any stress for how busy it was. It was a great experience and I left feeling very satisfied with the quality of the food I ate. So happy it's in my backyard because I will definitely be going back! read more

The food is fine but the chef REALLY needs to get a bell to ring for the waitresses. He has this hyper-annoying habit of calling for them by name when food is ready in the window, like "Kelsey, come pick" , "Jane, come pick." He wears a chef costume and doesn't even cook anything, just says "come pick, come pick, come pick" until you want to stab out your eardrums with a fork if you're unlucky enough to sit by the cooking area. He should just bring the food out to the tables himself and keep his trap shut. Don't know how anyone could stand to work there and listen to that clown say "come pick" 5000 X a day. read more

We visited for the first time in July 2022 and decided to stray from our norm. The service was wonderful...the food not so great. The poached eggs were served hard boiled. A nice spot to get good food at a good price in a cute little historic town. Not an upscale restaurant, it's a clean, small, busy dinner. Love their pancakes ! If you're there when the manger/owner is around, you got to meet him. He seems like an old school friendly business man that makes you feel welcome. Just was concerned last time I stopped in that those roof was leaking in spots. Hope they were able to get that fixed and dried. Came here for Breakfast with my friends who live in Clinton - this is your typical hometown cozy Diner in the center of town. The service was great as well as the coffee and my order "eggs over easy" were cooked perfectly. However the Bacon strips were "not" top quality meat they were thin and fatty plus they tasted bland - honestly I would stay away from the Bacon. I cannot comment on the Pancakes since I did not order them. All and all, I would come back here for Breakfast. read more

I had to add an update to this, because I have become a 'regular' since posting my review initially. I look at the reviews here and I really scratch my head. First of all, there are no crotchety cooks. The place is family owned, and the heartbeat of this place is its welcoming owner and his son. It is also not geared towards older folks nor lonely people, that is ridiculous. I am 30 and feel right at home there. Secondly, the place is definitely geared towards Greek. Seeing bad reviews for overcooked kids meals, mozzarella sticks, and a turkey club?! Try a greek salad (with delicious HOMEMADE dressing), an omelette, chef salad . . . etc. All dishes prepared with personality and delicious. There is no conceivable way a person could see these dishes and be disappointed. Their homemade chili is absolutely delicious also. BLT is great. Good portions. I like their burgers too. Out of all the places for breakfast or lunch in Clinton, this is the best I've had. Better than Country Griddle by a mile. The service was terrible. The forks and napkins came 10 minutes after the meals arrived. Waters never came. Your typical small town diner that doesn't look like your classic diner for the outside. Not any extended hours and parking can be hard to find..Owner runs a clean, efficient place..friendly waitress with decent prices. I made note of name brand items like Skippy, Thomas English Muffins while many diners save money on using wholesale cheaper off brands. The place is one of the smallest diners you will find but that is part of the charm. You don;t find them like this anymore. This is your classic diner, no salad bar but they have TVs around. I thought I could grab a quick breakfast on my way to work. Popped into what appears to be a small town diner. Ordered 2 eggs over easy and a coffee. Drank my coffee while I waited 28 minutes for my eggs. As I am a local bartender I know this is not the waitresses fault so I left 5 on less then 9. Paid my bill and left. Ordered an Alpine Burger, which was their special, came with lettuce tomato, mushrooms, bacon, and swiss cheese. They asked how I wanted it cooked, I said medium. It was supposed to come with fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The burger was from frozen, and was cooked well done. No coleslaw or pickle served. The bacon on the burger was similar to jerky in that it was tough to bite apart and chew. The fries were crinkle cut fries, similar to the ones you get at the grocery store.
