Obsessed with tacos de birria, I finally made it to Town-ish! GPS me to a house off Fruitvale and whips double parked. Saw the homemade signs and knew I was in for some special tacos.
A sweet black terrier greeted me. Gentle and docile, a few good licks made me feel Ohana. The store is basically on a patio in front of a residence. A gas iron flat top is grilling and fresh veggies are being chopped next to it. The whole set up is very clean and bug critter-free.
A lovely guy, busily cut veggies and gladly took my order. There's two versions of tacos de birria; beef and veggie (no vegan). I chose three beef and a cup of consommé to carry out.
I watched closely how señorita made the tacos. Two corn tortillas grilling, a good sized dollop of beef birria, cheese, onions, cilantro, and salsa. As they sizzled, the sexy aroma of my days spent in Boyle Heights (East LA) brought back fond memories. She folded the tacos carefully and plated them with love into a clam shell container.
Bruh bagged me up and the total was $12.50, but he said call it $12. I'm already impressed by the service and gave him a nice tip.
Once home, I had to let my iPhone camera eat first. The pictures really don't do justice on how delicious the tacos are. Overstuffed with the birria beef filling, melted into the Mexican cheese, and with just enough salsa. My first dip and bite of the taco was heavenly. As we say in Hawaii, "Broke da mout!"
It clearly is a paper towel event. On my next visit, I plan to dine-in at one of the three 4x6 tables set up in the patio. I truly cannot wait to return! read more
