I rarely buy tamales at food stands or restaurants but I found myself running errands around fruitvale ave in Oakland California and found myself in front of this food truck. The tamales are amazing and you just can't beat the price! My go to order is the Red Tamale and the raja con queso tamales with an agua fresca on the side. If you're lucky she might have the strawberry agua fresca but you also cant go wrong with the standard horchata. Delicious tamales. It doesn't really matter what type you get they are all very tasty and filling, but I think that jalapeño cheese is always top-tier. Plenty of cheese and spice for the price. read more

These are Tamales con Sazón and they are large! I'm born and raised in LA and haven't had a good street tamale in a while. Their queso con rajas are bomb! And heard from familia that their pork is on Point! Will be back next Xmas for more! read more

Awesome tamale stand? truck? The tamales are $2.50 each and a packed with flavor. My bf and I ordered a chicken and a pork to share as a light lunch and I instantly regretted not ordering more for later. Both were delicious but that pork in the tamale was so tender... YUM! First off, Yelp has the wrong address for this business and if not for my dogged determination and familiarity of Oakland (I'm a born and raised), I would have never found it. The food trailer is located at 1480 Fruitvale, not 1680 Fruitvale. Yelp! Get it right for this humble, small business person. I got the chicken and pork tamales and a papusa (the owner's brother was visiting and told me which papusa to get. Don't remember its name but it was the first one listed on the menu board. If I went back, I'd get 2 chicken tamales and 2 papusas, plus the brother told me the torta is very good. I can see I'll be going there at least a few more times. Enjoy! read more

I think it's time the original yelper of Mexican food slap some realness around. Too many Mexican spots getting stars serving taco hellish stuff. Me and this spot go way back. I'm talking like babies of pacifier. I use to order from the lady that runs the show when she didn't even have her spot on wheels. A few years later and this spot is still serving what Mexican food is suppose to be. I'm not talking in America Mexican food, I'm talking straight out Mexico. The Tacos de Canasta (Al Vapor) filled with Chicken Mole are delicious enough, that you will slap anyone who disagrees. The texture of the homemade corn tortillas slopped up with warm slow cooked gently spicy mole just melts in your mouth like you have met your mouths other half. Don't roll up expecting some regular janky tacos, I'm telling you come prepared to devour the reason people find themselves a Mexicana that cooks. Also when your done stuffing your tummy, beast on the Tamales Chapin (Guatemalan) to go!!! Get gully with the order, and take plenty of the repollo (cabbage salsa) and salsa verde so you can douse your babies up at home. Tamales - the perfect breakfast food. Corn meal for carbs, pork or chicken for protein, pickled cabbage for veggies, and salsa for the spicy food group. One of these in the morning (the only time the cart is there) and you're good to go. I never used to like tamales but I guess it's b/c I never had a good one until now. The tamales here are nice and spicy from the red chili paste they add to the cornmeal. The cornmeal is perfectly seasoned and the good portion of pork is nice and tender. Top it off with some of their salsa verde for more of a kick and acidity. The pickled cabbage completes the meal. How much for this complete breakfast? $1.50! There used to be 2 other tamale stands on this block of Fruitvale, now there's only 1 other across the street. All the locals hang around this cart though. read more

Today was my second time eating from this place. My coworker had bought tamales for myself, and a couple of my other coworkers a few weeks ago. They were great! The same coworker went back today to buy tamales for the group. I sat down, opened the foil of my chicken tamale, poured the green sauce over it, and started to dig in. About three to four bites in, I look down at the tamale, and there is a roach belly up... Yes, a ROACH in my tamale. This is by far the most disgusting dining experience I've ever had in my life. I blurt out in my breakroom, "There's a roach in my f***ing tamale!" My coworkers are all grossed out, because they have already devoured their food from this Trailer of Terror. I throw the remainder of my chicken and roach tamale in the trash, and force myself to throw up the bug ridden masa. I type at my desk in disgust. Mondays generally are brutal, but the roach laden tamale has made today hellish... Why me? :( Stay away from this place, unless you don't mind a little roach protein in your diet. read more

Pupusas are better than tacos or burritos and this place has the best pupussas I've ever had, primarily from the combination of excellent Curtido and superior salsa roja. This place is only open from lunch till 4 and they often run out. read more

I happen to try this place yesterday because I had been craving Tamales for some weeks now and I just had to have some for breakfast yesterday. I like the fact that they are in the parking lot of Los Mexicanos because alot of those street carts be right on the curbs and its hard to find parking in that area. So I ordered 4 tamales, 2 de pollo and 2 de puerco. Pretty big in size which was a good thing. When I got back to work to devour my 2 tamales first I had my tamal de pollo and to my surprise it was actually very good in flavor and not skimpy at all on the pollo. My tamal de puerco was also very tasty and full of meat. Some places give you all dough and no meat. This place is very generous with the meat portions they put inside. Next time I wanna try los de Rajas con queso. Yummo! They have other food but i didnt read much of the menu but I seen they have tortas and pupusas too. Next time I will try something different so you know I am definitely going back for more...LOL read more

Long over due review...okay so I had to bring some tamales to last years Christmas party's i yelped and found this place i put my order in and prayed cuz i hate dry masa mixed with tinny amounts of filling..and woot woot when i picked up my order it was piping hot!!! and wow the size was great. sooooo went to party and everyone was like omg were did you get these? the masa wasnt dry and the filling good flavor and well portioned. was perfect! i had the pork, chicken, and cheese next time i just going for the pork and cheese because is don't care for chicken to much. so this is the spot getting my order ready for this year. oh yeah I'm Mexican to just no one in my family knows how to make them or they are lazy and lie about it knowing..so from a Mexican to y'all go here! read more
