As someone who's lived in Alameda Landing for the past few years, I'm so glad to have a spot like Taqueria El Chacho nearby. It's always great to have options close to home and it reminds me of my bar crawls with my Long Beach crew. I had the al pastor quesadilla ($13), and it was fire. Perfectly gooey, generous cheese, the al pastor was juicy, spicy, flavorful, and packed with just the right amount of char and spice. The meat was marinated just right along with that pineapple and every bite hit the spot. Service was friendly and fast for a Saturday and they take cash or Zelle. Good spot for grabbing a quick bite or picking up takeout. There's condiments also so I took a couple pieces of lime to add to the bottles of Corona I had in the fridge this evening. If you're at Target Alameda or the west side of the island make it a spot for an easy dinner, the al pastor is a must.

Stopped by Taqueria El Chacho since I could smell it a mile a away. We definitely ordered with our eyes since this was our first visit. The guy working the griddle took our order and was super nice. We tried the following: - Al pastor quesadilla w/onions and cilantro - ***** tasted so good but a bit salty for my taste so you definitely need to ask for some pineapple - Al pastor mulitas - **** trying it out for the first time and it was muy deliciouso especially with the melted queso - Chicken quesadilla with onions and cilantro - **** ordered it for my kiddo so we'll see how he likes it There are 4 different salsas to choose from ranging from non-spicy to super spicy and all the fixings (i.e, cilantro, lime, onions, radish). I'm so glad we stopped by tonight and got to try it. Go get your taco fix. I promise you, u will want to be back for more.

Fish tacos were not battered - clean flavor and texture, shrimp tacos will be ordered again, tripas was nice and crispy. Also got the Friday special - 3 quesabirria tacos with consume for $10. Plus free chips and salsa. They have canned Coke Zero too. I'll definitely be back. Solid offerings all around, good flavor, good value, not busy, pretty easy street parking. Another yelper mentioned it wasn't overly salty and I 100% agree. Somehow this place has the perfect balance of flavors for everyone in the family - id take my heat adverse kids and older parents and myself. It doesn't seem like the place that's going scorched earth in any dish, i get the sense it's here to deliver some good flavors. I'm really impressed. Food came out hot and quick. The cashier was friendly. Store is clean with bright walls, decorative paper flags, and a few religious figures in the alcoves. This place is to the point in its food and function.

Tostones con picadillo - crispy twice-fried plantains topped with savory, seasoned ground beef. Baja fish taco - a piece of crispy fish, topped with salsa roja, cabbage slaw and baja crema on a soft corn taco. My favorite taco. Pescado Frito - two pieces of fried fish with salsa criolla with rice, choice of pinto or black beans, organic mixed salad and two plantains. A delicious combination plate. The homemade chips are addictive don't get full on them before your meal comes. They also have an extra spicy sauce for the chips but I warn you now, it is really really spicy but good. The food is always amazing. Today we switched it up and got the Super Burritos. One shredded beef and the other shredded chicken. The beef was way better. But, our normal food item is the Pescado Especial for $63.79. It feeds 2-4 adults. The ambiance is very cultural. I love the variety of alcohol that they have and yes empty it's for decorations. The few television's that they do have came in handy because the World Cup was on, Panama vs Ghana.

The outdoor seating overlooks a big plaza, so while you wait for food (and enjoy a margarita), your kids can run and play without bothering anyone. They offer a $10 happy hour menu Monday through Thursday, with smaller portions that are perfect for lighter meals. After your meal, stroll through the mall by the UPS store to find a lovely walking path along the canal where you can spot ducks and geese. You can also walk or bike to two playgrounds: one smaller playground is further along the path on the same side, and a larger playground is across the bridge a few blocks into the neighborhood. There's plenty of parking. You can swing by Safeway next door if you need to grab a few groceries before heading home. Penca Azul makes for a wonderful and easy outing. Our whole family always enjoys ourselves and leaves happy!

Fast forward to today, my son and his friend frequent this place. After a Sunday full of errands, hunger kicked in, and we were craving Mexican food. My 13 year old suggested we come here. At that moment, I had a choice...drive out to Oakland and find a solid spot or trust my teenager's restaurant recommendation. Risky move, I know lol. Walking in, the place looked just like it did years ago clean, welcoming, and with a friendly staff. The menu? Way bigger than I remember. It had so many options, I started wondering if I needed a strategy guide to order. I just wanted everything cause I was hangry lol. My son swears by their quesabirria, so I took a bite. It was... alright. Wish the shell had that extra crisp or even a cheese crust. The beef? Decent, but could've used more spice and flavor. Maybe dipping it in the consommé would've helped like a plot twist in a bad movie, it might've saved the whole thing just my opinion : ) I went for the steak fries. Now, these weren't your typical carne asada fries with thick-cut fries, sour cream, salsa, and all the toppings stacked on. These were more like shoestring fries, already seasoned, topped with cheese and steak pieces. Not bad, but let's be real I wouldn't have minded a bigger portion. And with shoestring fries, good luck trying to scoop up all the toppings without making a mess in that little food tray lol. Also grabbed a crispy ground beef taco. It was okay, but every time I took a bite, it completely fell apart like my plans to eat healthy. Could've used a bit more seasoning too (taco snob lol) Don't be shy with the flavor. I rather have it over seasoned than bland : ) Alameda doesn't have a ton of taquerias, which is probably why everyone drives out to Oakland to hit the food trucks on International Blvd (aka E-14th for the OG Bay Area folks) Yadadaimean! Would I come back? Yeah, I would. Food isn't bad, and the prices are decent like I'm not breaking the bank here. Solid 3 stars. It's good, but not quite at that 4-star level for me.....Just saying : )
