It's not the most convenient and typical location. More of an Oakland food adventure, you can to see more of the local vibes of food offerings. The spot is marked with the spinning trompo and this is their specialty. We sat down and our al pastor taco orders were off. They were definitely busy during lunch time and we were able to snag a table. Food is definitely made to order and sprinkled with pineapple. The al pastor was nicely charred and tasty. Table side salsa provides the option of the green salsa or fiery spicy red. The red salsa kicks a bunch but it burns so good. There's also pickled onions just beware of the orange slices as those seem to be habaneros. The staff are super friendly and we'll be coming back for more cravings. Cash only.

Do you know how The Cheesecake Factory has a massive menu with 200 items, none of which are done well? This is the exact opposite. They do one thing--Puebla-style al pastor, cooked on a trompo--and they have completely mastered it. The al pastor was cooked to perfection--not oily or greasy at all (which some places struggle with). The meat-to-tortilla ratio was spot-on, and the pineapple chunks were fresh, a real treat, and perfectly proportioned. A really nice touch is that the plate came with a flat tostada shell, so you can scoop up any filling that falls out. They offer two types of salsa picante: Salsa roja - Flavorful and seriously spicy Salsa verde - Milder but still delicious One word of caution: onions with habanero slices are on the tables. They are delicious but go slow--I overdid it and had to take a break. The stand has plenty of seating, it's very clean, and the people running it are super friendly and happy to answer questions. They definitely cover several regional cuisines of Mexico at this single food truck. I would argue it's one of the best Mexican food trucks in the bay, so much so that it reminds me of LA. It's a little stand at the corner of Fruitvale and International Blvd in Oakland. They are only open in the morning, from 6:30 am to 11 am. I first noticed this place when I was driving by and saw a long line of people. I had to stop and find out what was going on. Since then I've been hooked. My husband was NOT a tamales fan until I brought home one and made him eat it. Now he loves these tamales. They have pork tamales, chicken (red and green sauce) and some kind of sweet one the last I checked, but since I don't care for a sweet tamales I only stick to the pork and the chicken. The pork tamales are my favorite. Light, almost fluffy masa with melt-in-your-mouth pork with red sauce wrapped in corn husks. The vinegar based slaw and green sauce are self served. The slaw and the sauce both has jalapenos and has some kick. Try it out!

They sit out in front of Fernando's Tire Service, friendly folks that can fix your flat in less than the time it takes for you to order and eat a couple Quesabirria Tacos. Their taco sides and salsas are first rate. They had watermelon in the Aguas frescas Jar, perfect for a Oakland Summer day. They are across the street from Garfield Park (23rd and Foothill) near San Antonio Park and a Latinx grocery; so they will always have fresh supplies. They got the steak fries right, but instead of steak burritos we received two chicken burritos. We called to let them know the order was incorrect and the guy who answered insisted that we ordered chicken. We most definitely didn't. He said he would replace them and he asked that we bring the chicken burritos back. This was already an inconvenience because we live 15 minutes away, so gas was wasted getting all the way over there and back. When they were picked up, instead of owning up to his mistake, the guy still insisted that we ordered chicken. Again, we did not. While we finally had what we ordered, the steak burritos were smaller and barely had any meat in them, while the incorrect order were chock full of chicken. So, needless to say, we will not be back.

I bit into my taco and was chewing on it and had a weird taste so I spit out my food and found a large rubber band. I immediately called the restaurant. I spoke with the owner/manager, and he was extremely apologetic and sincere. Even though I accept his apology and appreciate him trying to make things right. Unfortunately, I am too disgusted and grossed out to see myself returning anytime soon. I appreciate the professionalism of handling this issue and I was hesitant to write this review and post this picture. The attached picture is the taco and a picture of the rubber band. Per my call with the owner/manager he thinks the rubber band came from the bundle of cilantro. Regardless of where the rubber band came from, I still feel completely disgusted and grossed out.
