Went in with zero expectations and left planning my next visit. Stopped by Tacos Mi Rancho near Lake Merritt and honestly didn't know what to expect. From the outside, it looks like a straightforward taco truck, but wow was I surprised. I ordered the Carnitas Super Taco, which came loaded with lettuce, cheese, cilantro, onions, sour cream, and guacamole. Everything was fresh, well seasoned, and packed with flavor. My only complaint? You only get one taco per order because I definitely could've eaten another. The Kid ordered the Carne Asada Super Taco and before we even pulled away, she was asking for a second one. That's usually a pretty good sign. We also tried the horchata and jamaica, and both were delicious. The horchata was creamy and flavorful, while the jamaica was refreshing and not overly sweet. What surprised me most was how quickly they got the food out, especially considering how popular this spot seems to be. A few things to know: * Cash or Venmo only * Parking can be a challenge, but it's worth it * Keep an eye out for the new speed cameras in the area Their hours are another plus: Open daily, 9:30am- midnight Overall, this was one of those pleasant surprises that reminds you not to judge a place by appearances. Pretty good spot for tacos and burritos - when they actually get the order right and give you what their menu advertise. I usually get the super tacos and a super burrito to split. Reason why I'd give 3 stars instead of 5 is because 1) almost $5 for one tiny taco is already absurd, and 2) half of the time they charge me for super taco prices just so i can go home and find out they gave me regular tacos - NO cheese, NO guac, NO sour cream. I even asked the dude on the phone how many bags of chips they give for my order so i know if I need to order more, he literally said two bags of chips, and end up giving me just one bag for a total of 4 "super" tacos and one "super" burrito. As much as I wanted to rate this place higher, unfortunately the steak fries was below par. Tacos Mi Rancho is a food truck that operates near Lake Merritt. No tables and chairs outside - just pure to-go. Parking is limited to street parking with many of the spaces taken by Lake Merritt visitors. There was a constant flow of customers when I went during non-peak dining hours, so I'd assume that they have lines during other times. The steak fries were a bit bland with too much sour cream and less of everything else making the fries a bit soggy. The sauces did a lot of the heavy lifting to make this dish a bit more enjoyable. I would definitely come back to try their burritos and tacos - which are what they are most known for (I just was craving steak fries that day). Iconic taco truck near Lake Merritt. Perfect for late nights but perhaps better in memory than reality. The food here is more like 3.5 stars -- but there are other great options around. The flavors are rich and laid on thick. We ordered a veggie burrito, a bean and cheese burrito with rice added, and three tacos (carne, pollo asado, and Cameron's). The carne melted in my mouth, since it was rich with rendered fat, and the tortillas were crisped around the outside to melt and seal the layer of cheese inside. Probably our best overall dish was the bean-cheese-rice burrito -- covered in their salsas and peppers -- since it balanced all the ingredients and textures. On the other hand, the veggie burrito brought the flavor, but between the crema, pico, guacamole, and cheese it ended up soggy halfway through and the tortilla threatened to come loose. The shrimp and chicken were forgettable, and the tortillas come crispy off the griddle but they are damp by the time you walk anywhere to sit. What captures the truck in a nutshell are the chips they serve, covered in a seasoning that replicates Doritos flavor. Sometimes that is exactly what you need. But you can get it elsewhere easily too. read more

I've tried to visit before but it was cash only and only ever have card, but for some reason I was scrolling on doordash last night and saw they were on there and decided to order for pick up to finally try this spot. Upon arriving, it was pretty busy but I only waited about 11-12 minutes so the service was really fast. I ordered the super al pastor quesadilla and it was really good really fresh ingredients and perfect portions. My boyfriend got the carnitas torta and omg it was really good, the meat was seasoned hella good and they did not skimp on the meat. The carne asada fries were hella good must have here next time I'll definitely add some shrimp it also came with a can of soda. Tacos Mi Rancho used to be my family's go to burrito spot, but after tonight we won't EVER be back. My kids went to grab dinner, ordered two steak burritos and an order of steak fries. They got the steak fries right, but instead of steak burritos we received two chicken burritos. We called to let them know the order was incorrect and the guy who answered insisted that we ordered chicken. We most definitely didn't. He said he would replace them and he asked that we bring the chicken burritos back. This was already an inconvenience because we live 15 minutes away, so gas was wasted getting all the way over there and back. When they were picked up, instead of owning up to his mistake, the guy still insisted that we ordered chicken. Again, we did not. While we finally had what we ordered, the steak burritos were smaller and barely had any meat in them, while the incorrect order were chock full of chicken. If I could give zero stars I would. First the service was bad. I kept getting cut off mid conversation so the lady at the window could give orders out. Anyways I got birria ramen and it's disgusting. It has ZERO flavor the broth literally looks like Maruchan. Idk if they gave 75% water and the rest consume but that's what it tasted like. Ain't no way people really buying this. I'm disappointed because I ate other things from here and it was decent so I'm sad to say this specific item is gross. On top of that they gave 1 mini tostada on the side like I can't. The ultimate, Mi Ranchito. Tacos Mi Rancho is one of the few places that makes me question my own vegetarianism. I remember the carne asada tacos I grew up grubbin' down, during the long-gone days when tacos cost less than $1, and how delicious they were. Even though I've moved on to greener pastures (literally), I still always find something to eat at Mi Rancho; from their oversized and perfectly browned quesadillas to their yummy burritos. Stopped by last night because I was craving tacos pretty late and this was on of the few places open late (til midnight)! I ordered 5 tacos: cabeza, carnitas, carne asada, birria and shrimp. All the tacos were delicious but my favorite was the shrimp taco, it was perfectly cooked and the salsa on it was so good. The rest of the tacos were pretty standard but still really delicious. It was quite busy for 10pm on a week night but the service was still quick and staff were really nice. They also gave chips (with some sort of Doritos/nacho dust), salsa, and even pickled carrots and jalapeños which were delicious on the side. I also ordered a regular carne asada burrito and that was really good too. However it was a cash only place (plus venmo and zelle) so that threw some people off but all in all quick service, good food, and open late! read more

This little taco truck is tucked on a side street near Lake Merritt. Easy to miss, but clearly loved. The line was long, which is always a good sign, but it moved fast. The menu was big, and I got three carne asada tacos. All of them were delicious. Some reviewers complain that you need to know a little Spanish. Come on, this is California. You can handle "carne asada." Take your tacos to go and eat by the lake. It's a great move. Pro tip: the default salsa is not hot enough, at least for me. Ask for "la salsa más picante." These are hands down the best nachos I've ever had. I ordered through DoorDash and was able to make adjustments to my order over the phone when I realized I forgot to request chips on the side. They also provided me with radishes and jalapeños as I requested, which was fantastic. I think their nachos are spectacular because of the cheesy, crunchy Doritos chips combined with the nacho cheese! The best taco truck in Oakland! Been going here for 20 years, and still include it on any Oakland itinerary for visitors. I get my tacos "with cream and cheese," and they are the best anywhere. Shrimp or chicken generally, but I can literally eat anything here. The menu is just solid overall, and everything is top tier. Love that they now serve jamaica (hibiscus); it's perfect. In all these years, there's ALWAYS people in line -- especially late late night. But it's always safe and I've literally never had or even seen a problem there (actually the opposite). Great food.
